We just moved to the area a couple of months ago and had a terrible experience at a different groomer (my dog had cuts all over his body with bleeding quicks) with good ratings. So we were nervous to try yet another new place in the area. So glad we chose this place. The staff were friendly and had a lot of dogs coming in and out of the store when we checked my dog in for a haircut. He's a 9 lbs Havanese and we asked for a puppy cut. Everything was done in 2.5 hours and he came out looking adorable. We will most definitely be back!!

The groomers are all top-notch professionals.... Their cuts are the best in the western suburbs.....!!!! And I can't say enough about the staff !!! Considerate and always takes special care to make sure that the dogs are comfortable! I have tried other places throughout the years ... and this is by far the best.... My poor old dog is becoming very difficult and the groomers at the barker shop were very kind and patient with him. Mya went out of her way to be very gentle and take extra time. I had been going to the Barker shop for years and, when they moved their office to Willowbrook, I really didn't wanna drive that far. But I continue to bring Cobie there for service because I feel like they really care about our pets. read more

The Barker Shop is AMAZING! My Jack Russel suffers from severe environmental allergies and this season has been a doozy. The ozone baths have stopped his licking and biting! He is on injections as well as appoquel and this year no daily medication! SO happy to find him relief naturally! Not to mention the whole staff is friendly and knowledgeable in a clean happy space! Stumbled upon Barkershop on Yelp. What a find! Other Groomers are weeks out... they provided quick service which was wonderful. Filled out a request online. Had contact with a scheduler in 3 hours. Based on my availability we found a time 10 days out- could have been sooner. Communication was wonderful throughout. Groomer Nicole arrived on time, in a clean van. My girl is a rescued mama. She's very shy. This was her first grooming and she was very nervous which is why we wanted someone to come to our house. Nicole was calm, patient and skilled. Great quality and service. Easy appointment scheduling online. Great communication with the groomer. My dog is in a big round pen on the floor when I pick him up, not in a cage. I've been to at least 5 different grooming companies and this is by far the best. read more

My 12 year old shih-tzu had been dealing with vertigo. He badly needed a haircut and my vet said he would have a head tilt for a while and he was otherwise healthy. PetSmart, where I usually go, wouldn't take him. I called the Barker Shop, explained the situation and they took George the next day. Monica took excellent care of him, assured me she'd call if there were any issues, even offered to let him sit and air dry if needed. He came home handsome and happy! read more

The Barker Shop is an amazing place. It has everything you need for your pet babies. Dog or Cat. They do the best grooming, in my opinion. The staff cares for your babies as if they were their own. They do adoptions. They help with local search and rescue. They have professional photographer's for those pet portraits. The owner Kathy Deets is very much rooted to the community and surrounding area. Ellie is an amazing groomer. read more

We had the mobile service come to our home to cut the nails of our 4 dogs. Kara was awesome and super patient with all of them, including our Great Dane who has severe anxiety. We cannot thank Kara enough for being understanding, having a calm demeanor and SO being so great with all of our girls. You can tell that she is truly "dog person" and understands dogs- even ones with anxiety - which was wonderful! She asked if we wanted their nails grinded or cut which was nice, too! We already have our next appointment booked with her and will continue to use this company, specifically Kara, for our dog's nail trimming, and maybe grooming in the future! THANK YOU! read more

Meet the Business Owner: Alina J.

Since I was young, I knew I would work with animals. At 13, I started volunteering at an animal shelter. That is where I learned that being a pet groomer was an option. I worked at a salon as a bather and decided I would pursue a career in pet grooming. After completing grooming school, I worked at a few salons before opening my first shop. I learned that grooming wasn't as easy as playing with dogs all day, but as challenging as it was...it was also very rewarding. I ended up closing my first shop to move out of state. I continued to groom first in California, then Colorado before getting pregnant with my son and a few years later with my daughter and becoming a stay at home mom for the next 7 years. I decided to get back into the pet industry and found the Barker Shop. While it has been a challenging first year, I am continuing to learn and grow with the business and my employees.

The convenient Wheaton location of the facility is great for daycare and they also allow for half-day daycare too. Very flexible scheduling. When I pick my dog up, I can tell that she's received personalized attention from the staff and that she has been well cared for. Often she's been able to work one-on-one with a staff member for nearly all of her half-day session. We also attend the group classes which are incredibly unique and let my dog build up practice interacting with other dogs in a way that reinforce new, good behaviors. My neighbors are thrilled with the progress almost as much as I am - my dog no longer automatically barks at everyone outside now and is able to make new friends. The in home training we did originally was incredibly valuable to get us started on the right foot. We need to do that again very soon! Is it the least expensive daycare and/or training in the area? No. But it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. When I leave my dog in the care of The Canine's Voice I know that she's going to be safe, loved, and will learn a few things while she's there. I have 4 Siberian Huskies, there are 2 of them who are sent to the groomer routinely. Both of them usually love it there, and come home perfectly groomed. However, this time we sent them, only one came back okay. Husky fur coats are hard to handle and the groomer who had been handling them moved away, so we allowed a different groomer to manage one of them. One of our dogs went with an experienced lady, though the other dog in which we allowed with the other groomer definitely had a horrible time. Huckleberry is the name of the dog we sent with the other groomer, we weren't familiar with this particular employee at The Barker Shop. Our dog Huckleberry went to the place completely fine but when he came out, the groomer had the audacity to say our dog needed to be shaved. His fur coat was in ruins, bald spots and knots everywhere. Our speculation is that they soaked him in a certain soap that most likely irritated his skin, and left him in this soap too long and didn't brush him whilst he was bathing. In turn allowing the fur to knot up. His fur is in horrible condition and he will most likely need to be shaved, he is in excruciating pain as he is normally is a playful dog though now he sits around and does nothing. We try to brush him but he yelps. At the moment we are contacting the groomer and our absolutely livid. I would give this place a 0 out of 1 million stars yet that does not express my anger enough. As what they did to my poor dog is downright animal abuse. His fur is in such a terrible state we are considering a lawsuit on the company. I will attach some photos to show what he should look like, and what he actually looks like. (In the photos it is hard to tell just ho knotted he is, but I hope the two bald spots circled show enough for you to realize not to do business with this place. read more

I have been taking my 7 year old cockapoo, Domino, to the Barker Shop since he was a pup for his regular grooming, about every 8-10 weeks. Quite simply, I love the Barker Shop Staff! Domino is always very nervous at drop off, but the staff is warm and welcoming, and he is always happy when I pick him up and without exception, looks great! His regular groomers are Amy and Lauren, both of which are angels and do an incredible job. Just today, I called with a question related to flea and tick treatment, and as per usual, Jennifer and Spence were happy to help me and extremely knowledgeable. I am never made to feel that any concern is too small! Lastly, I love these folks not least of all because of the tremendous rescue efforts they undertake. My four kids are animal lovers and the Barker Shop has been an outstanding example to them of a responsible, community-focused business. read more

I love this place. I've been taking my dogs there since it opened and wouldn't even think of going anywhere else. Everyone is kind and helpful. The groomers are outstanding. You can see that they all love dogs, they are involved in rescue. They have photography, treats, clothing, collars and leashes, bone, foods, everything that you need. They just recently opened doggy Day Care, its not real big, which to me is a plus because its very manageable and not overwhelming. My dogs loves to go there. I feel my dog is getting the best care possible when I take him there. They certainly go the extra mile when it comes to your dog. I even heard that they are going to have obedience training there soon. I certainly would recommend The Barker Shop.. read more

I had a truly wonderful experience at the Barker Shop! Both of my dogs, Jojo and Rico, were groomed by Brenna and Hannah, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Brenna did an amazing job with Jojo, making sure he looked and felt his best. Hannah took great care of Rico, and he came out looking absolutely adorable. The staff here is friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. I highly recommend the Barker Shop to anyone looking for top-notch grooming and a caring environment for their pets. Caretaking my daughter's very reactive dog and could not find any groomer who would take her on..... until I found the Barker Shop. The owner was most understanding and agreed to take her in and have Christine groom her. My dog was only reactive to other dogs coming in but went quietly with Christine. I was pleased and thrilled with the result! I waited in my car as I had come from quite a distance and she was done in less Tham 1.5 hours. Would highly recommend them! read more

This shop is owned by someone that should never have been given a business license. If it was possible to give a negative score, I would rate it at a negative million. She doesn't know how to operate a business and knows even less about managing her own employees. She places more value on the happiness of her groomers than she does on animals or her paying customers. Don't waste your time or money at The Barker Shop! read more

They are the best! Always take care of my two crazy dogs in the daycare and are very responsive to what they need each visit. I can take them there if they need to go to Kamp Kirsten (boarding) and they are picked up and dropped off from there. Anytime we tell them they are going to "doggy daycare" they are beyond excited to go to the Barker Shop! Staff is awesome as well! read more

Hazel is 10 and has been going her whole life. She loves Kelli and I truly believe Kelli likes Hazel. It's not just the fact that that the result is always excellent...it's the fact that Hazel has no problem going to the Barker Shop. The Barker Shop is great!! They trim the nails of my very DIFFICULT cat very quickly and efficientl! They take walk-ins so the "ordeal" for my cat is over in less than 10 minutes! The $20 fee is well worth it for me as I cannot trim the bails myself. Plus, everyone is so nice! read more
