Words don't adequately express how amazing the doctors are at Veterinary Dental Center! I have unfortunately needed to come here the last three years with my lemon beaglet due to a cracked molar chewing on an antler (don't give antlers to dogs), cavities due to her teeth getting injured, and this week, a dog friend ran her over and she hurt her front tooth on the pavement. I am diligent to brush her teeth regularly, so that does help with other prevention issues that could occur. I've worked with Dr. Sasser and Dr. Kling, and their assistant, Christie, all are gentle, kind, sweet beyond measure, answer all questions you may have (even if you feel a bit overbearing as a helicopter mom). They explain every detail of what will happen, show you the images, tell you why they think something should or shouldn't be done, and gave the ABSOLUTE BEST CARE to my sweet lil soul. I also loved chatting with Lorianne while I was waiting on my pup. She has such a heart for animals, specifically rabbits, and volunteers outside of work to rehabilitate and rescue bunnies that have been bought for Easter then dumped due to how complex they are to care for. After a traumatic accident, my 15-week-old puppy needed specialized care to repair his bite. The Veterinary Dental Center was highly recommended by the staff at VEG Lincoln Park in Chicago, and we were able to secure a next-day appointment. From the moment we arrived, the office felt calm and welcoming - more like stepping into someone's living room than a veterinary clinic. We didn't have to wait at all and were immediately seen by Dr. Juriga and vet tech Melissa. Dr. Juriga took the time to explain everything in detail, outlining both the best-case and worst-case scenarios. Most importantly, he truly listened to my concerns and reassured me that they would do everything possible for my puppy. My puppy stayed overnight, and once the procedure was complete, Dr. Juriga personally called to update me - followed by another call about half an hour later to let me know my puppy had eaten dinner and was happy and comfortable. That level of care meant the world to me. When I picked up my puppy the next day, there was a short wait, but I enjoyed chatting with Christie about senior dogs and life. Made an appointment for a dental consultation for my cat SARA. Went through the consultation process and after it was done, I was hit a consultation charge of $205. At no time from making the appointment by phone to appearing at the receptionist was I told of this charge. I believe that should have been indicated upfront and not when I was about to leave after consultation. 2 other vets I was interested in have that rate as complimentary to $50 range. Would have crossed them off at the beginning as being outrageous. If you want to make appointment for the procedure, you have to put deposit of $500. That's $700+ before they do something besides look at your pet. My estimate range was $2600 to over $3800. My cat shows no sign of discomfort while eating or me rubbing her jaw. Check out Stephen B. Our vet referred us to Dr Juriga in October 2022 and I'm so happy we met him and his team. I was worried about anesthesia and he completely calmed my nerves in a way no other vet had been able to do. Every single staff person is friendly, helpful, professional and knowledgeable. They definitely provide gold standard care and service. After Simba's teeth cleaning and tooth abstraction, Dr Juriga had the unfortunate task to inform me that Simba had oral cancer and a tumor. We had a phenomenal experience with Veterinary Dental Center! Our regular vet recommended a dental cleaning for our 8-year-old pit bull, Rocky, due to worsening periodontal disease, tartar and plaque buildup. I admittedly put it off for about a year because I was so worried about putting him under anesthesia. Our vet referred us to VDC if we wanted to work with a specialist, which we did, despite the hour commute outside the city! I can't say enough good things about the VDC team. Every single person we spoke to & met with was so kind, reassuring, knowledgable and patient... from the initial booking, to a reschedule we had to request, to his initial appointment, dental cleaning, and pickup. The coordinators, doctors and nurses were all outstanding!!! As mentioned, I was super nervous about the procedure, but they really calmed my nerves by clearly explaining the whole process and plan for the procedure. AND they were so incredible & gentle with Rocky. He is reactive with other dogs, and they called me the day before our first appointment to discuss how we could make the experience less-stressful for him. The team made sure there were no other visible pooches in the lobby or halls when we walked in and out, so he would be more comfortable during the appointments. Ultimately, Rocky only needed a standard cleaning with no extractions!! He was definitely woozy the first night home, but was back to his happy self the next morning...with MUCH better looking teeth. Everything about the Dental Center is top notch. They treated Simba like a human being and not a pet. Simba had some mouth trouble and the veterinary clinic near my home required a rabies shot for any dental surgeries and at 10.5 yrs old and strictly an indoor cat I didn't want to give Simba those shots. A holistic clinic referred me to VDC and it was a blessing in disguise. It's been 20 days since his surgery which seems much longer and my boy is happy and he's actually CHEWING. He's always gulped his food down and did very little chewing and now I hear him chewing all the time. Dr Rakowskas took the time to examine him and really figure out his dental needs. The nurses/techs loved him so much and took care of him when I know he was scared. Dr Kling did an amazing job on his mouth and he's a new cat. Simba was hamming it up in the office and I know they all took the best care of him. I can't thank the VDC enough for all you've done for my beautiful boy. At my cat's annual visit last July to my regular vet I was told she should have her teeth cleaned and she had some signs of reabsorption on two teeth, so they would need to be extracted (and possibly others). I wanted to do some research and get a second opinion, so I didn't schedule anything yet. Things got busy and I never had it done, and so fast forward to the midst of the pandemic, and my poor baby stops eating her dry food, hisses at her food, and has clearly lost one tooth already and has gums covering the others. My neighbor is a vet and took a look at her, and he confirmed that she really needed the procedure done. He recommended that I take her to a dental specialist, because he knew she was in a lot of pain and that it likely wouldn't be something a regular vet would be able to do as well. I also didn't love the idea of having her go to a regular vet for a procedure in the midst of a pandemic, when they are operating with fewer staff and aren't doing the procedures every day due to limited hours. He recommended a few different dental specialists, and Dr. Juriga was the only one who would be able to see me quickly. So, I packed her up and drove two hours to VDC. The staff members I interacted with (indirectly through my car window and on the phone) were extremely courteous. Dr. Juriga called after the consultation and spent about a half hour explaining his findings and recommendations, and calming my concerns about anesthesia. The consultation was on a Tuesday and I brought her back Thursday morning for the procedure. It ended up being much more extensive than planned (expected about 5-6 teeth to be extracted, but it ended up being more like 12 -- which he had warned me could happen, because they wouldn't know the full extent until they had the xrays). But, he kept the cost within the initial estimate, which I appreciated. They followed up the next morning and were easily accessible via email when I had questions and concerns. About 5 days after the procedure I noticed that she was still drooling excessively in one spot and was licking a lot, so I took a video and sent it to him around midnight. By about 7am the next morning, he had responded and told me to bring her in just to double check. She ended up having a small localized infection because two of her sutures popped out (likely because she pulled them out when grooming or eating). They gave her some more pain meds and an antibiotic shot, and once again Dr. Juriga was very helpful in answering all my questions. It's been a week since she had that follow-up/almost two weeks post-procedure and she's doing pretty well now. Yes, it's expensive. But I would rather pay more for the procedure and know it's done well than to try to cut costs and increase the risk. They also do a free follow-up visit 14 days after the surgery (though I did mine a week later because of the potential infection issue). read more

My dog lost a tooth and not knowing much about pet dental health, I looked up the closest facility that specializes in it and came across this center. At the consultation, the vet and nurses took their time answering all my questions and explaining what they would need to do to thoroughly examine my dog. They also gave me an estimate that they assured would be pretty accurate and there would not be any last minute increases and they were true to their word. They also made sure to calm my nerves regarding anesthesia and having to put my dog under. Overall, I am very pleased with my experience and more importantly I know my dog is better off because of it so thank you Dr. Sasser. Only thing I will note is that while I expected the actual appointment to be costly, I wasn't expecting the initial consultation to be as expensive as it was. Never been to other dental places so this is probably standard but, just something to keep in mind when looking at the total cost if money is an issue. I am writing this in the hopes of helping other pet owners who are fearful of getting dentistry done. I was terrified. I knew my dog had loose teeth and having had a bad experience with a dental with a prior dog. I swore that dentistry was cosmetic only. Fast forward, my sweet havanese is 5 years old - and overdue for a dental with loose bottom teeth. After losing both parents, I couldn't bare the thought of the risk putting her under anesthesia. I went searching for a specialist to have people who did surgery every day - and had specialty anesthesia. Leading up to the surgery date I had pre-anesthetic blood work which revealed a lot of issues. High triglycerides and fat - and overall abnormal blood counts. Then I knew I definitely had to go to the board certified specialist to get this done. I still didn't want to go. Especially given the blood work but given her kidney and liver were ok - we proceeded because front incisors were mobile. I put it off for six months to get the work done while we tried to resolve her high triglycerides. Saw a doctor at Cornell got her on a low fat diet - and lowered her results for surgery - just before surgery she still had low neutrophils and high NBRCs but proceeded with anesthesia because the teeth were getting more tartar. Overall on the outside she looked mild; to my surprise - after a CT scan - revealed she had so much disease, infection and an abscess in her back molar. 20 teeth removed in total. After 3 hours under with two nurses monitoring her vitals and the doctor - I could see everything through the window - they took amazing care of her. Within 10 min of the tube coming out she was up and alert - and within 2 hours she was in the room with me with our couch hanging out until she was released. Amazing staff every single person from Dr Juriga of course who spend endless hours talking to me - before during and after - Christie (her nurse), Nikki (front desk), Jillian (post-op nurse) - I feel bad for not naming everyone. They were all amazing. I am not afraid of dental procedures anymore. Further, I was researching after I learned she had an abscess if this could have caused this change in her triglycerides that spiked so high ... and research shows dental disease can impact all of these things. She lost 20 teeth, but I am confident I saved years and years on her overall health and I'm so grateful she's going to be well and I look forward to pulling those blood results again when she's all healed up! read more

We were referred here by Dr Barbara Royal, as we had ongoing dental issues for our kitty with a root cause that no one was able to identify. Dr Juriga was an hours drive away, so I questioned the recommendation. I now would drive 10 hours to see him if we would ever need to again! First of all, the office and exam rooms are clean and welcoming. Everyone was very kind and respectful to our kitty and always had time for questions. Dr Juriga spoke to us over the phone prior to setting up the appointment - he made sure all our concerns were addressed, and we would be set up for success for the oral surgery. The surgery itself went very smooth, and our kitty got to come home early afternoon to recover. After the surgery, Dr Juriga made himself available to us for follow up questions. He found a relevant article for us in an medical publication, and went as far as contacting the doctor who wrote the article for follow up questions (his own initiative, not ours). He responded to us on weekends and made time in his busy schedule to see us for followup. Our kitty is now healthy and well, with a clean and healthy mouth. My vet told me that in order to get the best dental care for my dog Monty, there was only one place to go and that was Veterinary Dental Center and to see Dr. Jurica. It didn't matter to me that I live in the city and that the practice was in Aurora. I want only the best for my Monty. And my vet was correct. It turned out that Monty had to have cleaning and extractions done but the entire experience was handled so professionally, with such attention to my concerns about Monty having to undergo anesthesia and about the entire process. The staff was extremely nice, supportive and anxious to make me comfortable during the lengthy visit. Dr. Jurica was so patient in explaining all the diagnoses and procedures that he was recommending based on films that he reviewed with me. He answered all my questions and allayed my concerns. My chihuahua had bad teeth I knew I had to take him for teeth cleaning but was so scared to put him under anesthesia.... because of this I looked up Dental Specialists and Veterinary Dental Center popped up. And made me feel little more at ease taking my lil one in. Although I still was emotional the day of, the staff was so sweet and calmed my nerves. He ended up needing almost all his teeth removed (highly recommended doing this ASAP to prevent this) they explained everything to me and second I brought him home recovery was a breeze. not pleased with exam I don't feel that it was thorough not even close. cost 200 to go in a room and hold your dogs mouth open for a "doctor" to take a 5 second glance on each side. then you'll receive an estimate for 1500 to 3000 for a cleaning and minor tooth's extractions. I have a Belgium Malinois who is very hard on his teeth. They took the time to help me understand what I can do to ensure him a healthy future. They also preformed two root canals (didn't even know they did that on dogs), to help him keep two injured teeth, and removed two beyond repair. They were great before during and after the procedure and and I will be relying on them to help me keep my dog healthy well into the future. These procedures are not cheap, but neither is owning a dog of this breed, and all things considered for the amount of work, and the success it was well worth the money. Thank you! read more

Dr. Juriga and his team were absolutely amazing. Our 6 year old dog Addison was diagnosed with an aggressive tumor that grew extremely fast in a few months. After meeting with him, he determined that many of her top teeth needed to be removed as well as part of her nasal cavity to try and get clean margins. Hearing that information was devastating but we put our trust in Dr. Juriga and his team as he was very knowledagble and was 90% sure he would be able to remove it to its entirety. The surgery was successful and I pray every day the tumor doesn't return. The staff is terrific there. The quality of work and confidence in them was overwhelming. My 8 year old Soft Coated Wheaten had chipped the tip of his canine and they were able to seal it and gave him the greatest teeth cleaning ever! Dr. Sasser was awesome as were all the staff. I was taken aback at the cost at first but it was worth it. His after care was a breeze. No puking and no after effects.Forewarned this is not the cheapest. My golden retriever had a very large oral tumor on the roof of her mouth. My primary vet attempted to remove the tumor, but after a few weeks it grew back with a vengeance. I was referred to Dr. Juriga through a friend in a similar situation, who had nothing but wonderful things to say about him and his staff. Within hours of sending him a detailed email about her symptoms, Dr. Juriga called me and walked me through exactly what he thought needed to be done for more than 30 minutes. He knowledgeably answered all of my worried mama questions, and was very kind and caring while doing so. Because the tumor was growing rapidly, he urged me to get the procedure done quickly and moved his schedule around to accommodate her. Outside of the fantastic care my dog received, the facility is also incredibly clean and updated. We didn't have a long wait time, and I was able to drop her off, go back to work in the city, and pick her up in the afternoon before the office closed without issue. The staff even took the time to call me and let me know exactly when she was going into surgery. He was also up front about the total cost of the procedure before it was done so that I was not caught off guard at all, which was very refreshing. If you're in the city, Dr. Juriga is worth the drive! Having a sick pet can be a very scary and traumatic ordeal. Dr. Juriga and his whole staff made a very upsetting situation feel as positive and comfortable as they could, and treated my dog with the care any pet parent would hope for. I highly recommend him!
