My husband and I had some time to kill when we were in Morrow OH. So I checked on yelp and found this place with live music. We are happy that we visited Plain Folk Cafe. It is a happy and fun atmosphere with friendly service and really good food. There was a 4 piece band playing "Americana" music. My husband got The Dixie Chicken sandwich and I got The Marley. We both throughly enjoyed our sandwiches. They also have a outside deck for outdoor seating. This was a pleasant surprise in a small town. read more

This place IS-A-TREAT! It's a bit off the beaten path, but every bit WORTH IT! Trust me, come on out to the yonder and try this place! The owner, employees and even customers make you feel at home! They are located in a small little town east of Cincy right outside Milford, for you City Slickers. Easy directions, with pretty much one turn off HWY 28. When you get close, you can't miss it, really, you can't. Nothing but fields or darkness depending on your time of travel. But no matter what you will have a great time. My wife and I was there a night(Saturday) when they had some Blue Grass. And man, oh, man was it great. What I loved was the volume. Now, we aren't old folks, but we like to talk through out the night, and we sure could here. It was just the right volume to not blow you out and be hoarse the next morning. While they don't have wine, they do have a ample beer selection, with a couple ciders. The food is FANTASTIC, and they are known for their grilled cheese. I know, I know. You guys want the review of the gooey grilled cheese. Well, I had a Salad, I know, I know and the wife had a panini, which was GREAT! the Hummus was out of this world. The only kicker for this place is, location. But I tell you what, if you lead a horse to water you can make him drink, right? or maybe it goes something like that! So close and yet I don't know if I'll go back. I really wanted to like this place. It's only a few miles from my house too. I stopped in today for take out. Bowl of chili and a club sandwich. The chili was meaty as promised but had almost no flavor other than sweet. Really disappointing. The sandwiches: American cheese and store bought bread? You could do so much more Plain folk. I really do love this place, but the food needs some work. Their salads are piled high with tasteless shredded cheese from a bag and the mushrooms used in any of the sandwiches are definitely canned. It would be nice if some things were a bit more homemade than the "open and put together" process they seem to have going. I do believe their hummus is homemade but the last time I ordered this, it unfortunately was bland and lacked flavor. I have NOT had their breakfast so this review is of dinner only. The outside deck addition is wonderful and the beer selection is nice with some craft/micro brews included. It's a shame I've never been for the music, I hear it's wonderful. read more

So we came here for breakfast one morning and TOTALLY dig the vibe of this PFC. It's in an old schoolhouse, and they have kept the chalkboards and room divider which lends a cool rustic vibe. A very hippie type place- complete with ridiculously friendly staff. Breakfast was good, biscuits and gravy and breakfast burrito- not the best I've ever had but it was good and they also have homemade jams/jellies which was really cool. They also have lunch/dinner, draft beer, and an outdoor area to eat (and a place for kids to play)- can't wait to come back and try the specialty grilled cheese menu :) read more

You know this middle-of-nowhere place is going to be good when you pull up and the parking lot is full. Once inside there was plenty of seating, and a nice comfortable environment. You order at the counter and your food is brought out to your table. Coffee is self serve, which was good because it did take about 40 minutes for us to get our food. Which was understandable given how busy they were. We had pancakes, bacon, breakfast sandwiches, and hash browns, and everything was delicious. You can really tell that the folks running the place care, the place is genuine and friendly. We'll definitely be back. read more

I try to get down here at least twice a month. The owners are super friendly, Vicki will remember you, and make a point to see whats going on if you stop by regularly. They almost always have some sort of live music or something taking place and that is really the main focus here. You can always check their facebook page, which they update regularly, for scheduled bands. My favorite meal is the plate of nachos when I'm really hungry or the midnight special if I'm in the mood for grilled cheese. All the meals are very reasonably priced. This place is also very family friendly if you have little kids. Parking is the biggest issue and really isn't even a problem, just park at the church across the street if the lot is full, the lot of the cafe holds maybe 10 cars. read more

Music: Went on a Saturday night and saw Love Banshee, and Bibs and Barefeet.....both excellent. If you like bluegrass (or acoustic/folk) get ye to Plain Folk. I generally have the opinion that when most places say they are having live music...there's a good chance that some (sometimes most) of the bands will be crappy cover bands, or simply crappy bands. Not the case here, and if they continue to have the quality of bands playing every weekend, it's going to be great.great.great. Parking: This is an issue. The building is pretty small (a two room school building) and the parking lot probably has spots for 8? Cars in actual 'spots' and then about 5 cars parallel parked on the road right in front of the café. We did not get there early enough to get any of those spots so we parked in the parking lot of the Presbyterian church across the street. I didn't ask anyone if that was OK but I don't see the Presby church having services on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights....Sunday might be an issue though...unless the church has some deal with the Café. So...get there early not only to get a parking spot but also to get a seat. It was surprisingly crowded. I don't know if people are driving from long distances to go here or if it's a more local crowd...but it was more busy than I thought. Food/coffee/beer: Food is great as far as I can tell. I had the Cranberry Almond Salad with Chicken and it was big and tasty. Friend got the Quesadilla which she let me have a bite of and it was also pretty delicious. I *think the kitchen is small...and there may only be like 1 or 2 people working in it/running food...but they go as fast as they can and you have good beer/music to deal with while you wait. The sub sandwiches looked good as they were being carried by me... LOL. 2 taps: Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Sam Adams Boston Lager --- don't know if these will be staples or change. The SN was out, which I assume is due to the high volume of business they got on opening weekend. Bottles: Great Lakes (Burning River and Dortmunder Gold), Magic Hat #9, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Mt Carmel Amber, Yuengling, and then Bud....etc. So some decent selections to get people who normally drink BMC to try something new and unintimidating. A small little 'gift shop' corner with some jewelry/soap/knitted stuff....coozies/Tshirts. Great place to have a drink and see some good music with good friends. Our family went to Plain Folk cafe this past Saturday. Food was great, prices were beyond reasonable, portions were huge, and service was great. The atmosphere was wonderful. The owners did a great job on the design and decor. Great music and relaxed atmosphere. Our family had the ceasar salad, southwestern chicken salad, steak hoagy, and chicken tortilla soup. Everything came fast was was delicious. We actually ordered some extra because it was so good. I can't believe we have a restaurant of this caliber here in Pleasant Plain. This is my new favorite place and I'm on my way there again tonight. My 9 year old loved it as did my college age daughter and her boyfriend. I think we are going to try their breakfas tomorrow morning. If you love great music and a good meal in a beautiful setting then this is the place for you. We worth the drive for all you greater Cincinnatians. There is also plenty of parking around the cafe so you need not worry about that. read more

My girlfriend and I took a motorcycle ride to Plain Folk, on the suggestion of a friend. I must say the name fits it well. I cool little place, converted from an old two room schoolhouse. The service was very friendly, as we were greeted when we walked in and asked if we had been there before. When we said we were new, we were told to find a table, check out the menu and order up at the counter. The food is subsequently brought to you. They have a small selection of alcoholic beverages for your enjoyment. We were there on a Friday evening in July, and the parking lot was full, with people parking across the street at a small church. The motorcycle helped us find a spot. My girlfriend and I each had a specialty grilled cheese (they have many). I had the Marley, and would have it again. The atmosphere reminds me of Woodstock meets Walton's mountain! Very unique! And the live folksy music on stage, made it quite a relaxing place to be. It seems to be in the middle of nowhere, which adds to the environment. And Made it a nice ride to get there.
