I was out running in the middle of nowhere, preparing for an inevitable future in which it's necessary for me to retreat into the woods, when it was decided that we needed to get coffee. Someone from my group consulted their cell and determined that this was the closest place. I'd never heard of it. Apparently, it's a chain with multiple locations in some of our pastier exurbs. It makes you wonder what else there might be. PJ's claims to be a New Orleans coffee shop. What exactly is meant by that, I'm not sure. The coffee, at least in terms of the various preparations, seems to be the same coffee you'd get anywhere else. If you were to squint, I guess you could say that the decor on the inside is New Orleans themed. The exterior looks like the exterior of any chain establishment these days, including newer McDonald's, i.e. like a circa '09 Chipotle. Do the baristas flash you and allow you to throw beads at them? Sadly, no. I asked. Near the register there was an ad for a seasonal selection. I believe it was called a Peppermint Bark Velvet Ice, but I could be mistaken (indeed that doesn't sound like a very good name for a drink). It's not even Thanksgiving, and in fact, as I'm writing this, we're only one week removed from Halloween, but I'll allow it. I'm all PSLd out due to living near an Aldi. Anyway, this was perfect for me, because I could see what it looked like, and it spared me from having to investigate the menu further. As an inveterate brokie, I don't get coffee from fancy shops like this, but when I do, it needs to be something ridiculous, that someone might post on Instagram alongside a Labubu. I could get Folgers at home. They also carry beignets. Hence, presumably, the name. I got the smallest serving of the larger of the two sizes of beignets that they carry, which came with three of them. I'm not going to say what my total came to, out of embarrassment. I feel like a senior citizen who's just been sold a parcel of swamp land. Part of it is that I opted for a large drink. I was warned by the cashier that it comes in a very large cup. I told her that was no big deal, not realizing just how big it would be. This thing was an absolute unit, bigger than any reasonable person would need. They probably only keep it on the menu for idiots like me, who don't bother to check the actual size and price. It wasn't clear to me what was meant by velvet Ice, and it still isn't. I'd say it's along the lines of a frappe, with the caveat that I know very little about coffee drinks. The overall vibe was more chocolate than peppermint, but with bits of peppermint candy. It drinks more like an iced coffee than a milkshake, and you could slam one pretty quickly if you weren't paying attention, and you liked it that much. There's a generous whipped cream and chocolate syrup topping that doesn't melt down into the drink the way it would if the drink were hot. You end up eating it all at the end, as a sort of dessert to your dessert. Which brings us to the beignets. They're weirdly precise in their dimensions, like maybe they're heated up from frozen. They're served warm, and they're not given to you immediately, but it didn't occur to me to look and see how they were prepared. I'd describe these as being more like a dinner roll and less like a funnel cake, but not necessarily in a bad way. Ultimately, it's probably not possible to mess up a beignet. They're probably not nearly as good if you get them to go and end up eating them cold. Fortunately, I ate mine there. The seating area was nice, if maybe a little cramped, with a tiny sofa and a couple of comfy-looking chairs in addition to a row of tables. It was a veritable ghost town while we were there, so that ended up not being an issue. It was a Sunday, so people may have been at church, trying to get right with the Lord. read more

This was my first time checking this place out with a friend. The menu options are fun, the place is cozy and it was clean. They had a sign on the cashwrap that they were training new barista's and to please be patient - and so that is fair. The sweet young gal taking our order was very soft spoken - so it was hard to understand if she was getting the order correct. We waited about 15 min for the two lattes we ordered to be made. That feels excessive even with training and there were only 2 iced coffees ahead of us. My drink was made then they had to tell my friend they ran out of the pecan flavor she wanted- so she had to get something else. While it was good- for a Saturday morning for the slow service and missing ingredients-I won't avoid this place, I likely will go somewhere else next time. read more

I hope PJ's will take this in the spirit in which it's given because I think they have some of the best kiosk coffee in town and the staff is great. But there's something wrong with their process that needs to be addressed. PJs coffee is very good and they quickly became our drive-through of choice on our recent trip home to St. Charles. But we soon learned their wait times are crazy long. Maybe it's the beignets. They take awhile make fresh and they don't have people pull forward while they wait. Or maybe there is some other process that needs to be revamped. I don't know. But the waits ranged from 10-30 minutes. A half hour is way too long to wait for a coffee with only one car ahead of you. By the time I got to the window, I found our order had been sitting there the whole time. My husband's hot coffee was lukewarm and my iced latte had melted. That was our last visit. The other thing that bothers me about this place is how difficult they make it to tip the staff. I'm not sure exactly what's going on but when they hand you the square up screen to pay, there is no tip option and the vibe I get from the kids working there is either the owner doesn't allow tips or the tips don't make it to the kids. Cash tips work, but sometimes customers are not prepared to do that on the fly. It's just an odd setup that made us uncomfortable. Cute little place but service needs some improvements. My friend ordered coffee and after waiting a while had to ask where her coffee was, apparently the order did not print out. They were very nice about it and brought the coffee out right away. I asked about the non-dairy options and was told they only have dairy milk? Even though the menu says to ask about milk alternatives.., so the messaging is confusing. In 2025 it is shocking that a coffee shop would not have alternatives. I Won't be returning unless I'm told that info was incorrect or they add non-dairy options. I ended up getting tea. Had a nice time chatting with my friend. It was a cozy environment. read more

I stopped by PJs because I saw them advertise that they had king cake. I had a big slice, a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit, and a king cake latte with oat milk. The king cake was so soft and sweet, I could have eaten another piece! The sausage, egg and cheese croissant was very filling. The king cake latte was delicious, and not too sweet. The service was great, and the sofa was comfortable. It definitely had a New Orleans vibe. read more

This morning my boyfriend and I decided to give PJs another shot since the last time we visited we waited 20 min for two drinks..maybe they were having a bad time. Today we went in and ordered an iced Carmel crème and the featured iced bananas foster. We planned on getting beignets but were told they were out since yesterday. Only food option was a bagel, chocolate chip cookie, or egg bites. We got our drinks in a timely manor however they could not have been made correctly, they both tasted..gross. Looking at the sign I saw the bananas foster was supposed to have a sweet cold foam & mine did not. Went to the counter and asked about it and was told that it was supposed to have it but they were out. I said well it doesn't taste very good like this and she responded "yeah" with a blank stare. So we took the loss, learned our lesson, and drove over to scooters. read more

Coffee shops are ubiquitous and generic these days. There's little to be said for one other than its parking lot is larger or smaller than the competitor's down the street. PJ's draws on a New Orleans heritage. A jazzy musical playlist, Mardi Gras-esque chandelier, and beignets offered hints of the Crescent City. It reminded me of Starbucks. Not in its appearance but with its stripped down menu--mostly coffee items and a few teas and pastries--and its straightforward interior. There's a leather-like couch with matching chairs, and 4-person individual tables for laptop work or a quick meeting. There's also the wall of packaged coffees with branded items for sale, a drive-thru, and personable baristas. (It has sufficient parking.) Add emerald green, discard the white counter and subway tile backdrop, install a mermaid logo and it's good to go as the competition. read more

Fantastic addition to the O'fallon area! The inside is a modern, clean, New Orleans themed coffee shop and the workers are so so friendly. Stopped in today and they were super quick and accurate with the four drinks I ordered. The menu is expansive. They have a good selection of sugar free and regular syrups and milk options. My favorite part- the sizes are what you would expect and the prices aren't insane either (I can't say this about many of the other local coffee shops nearby). Additionally, the sugar free flavors (I got hazelnut) tasted fantastic- nothing like a nearby coffee shop that tastes like chemicals. I love that they have regular and nitro cold brew as well. Stop inside or hit the drive thru :) This might be my new go to spot! 10/10 read more

Have you ever been transported back to a specific time or place through food? But PJs has them, made from scratch, and made to order along with well-balanced, aromatic coffee to accompany those delicious beignets. One bite and I was transported back to New Orleans, sitting in Cafe Du Monde, eating beignets, drinking cafe au lait, and listening to live jazz on the street corner. It was an unexpected wonderful memory made possible by eating a most enjoyable treat at PJs. Here are two bits of advice while eating beignets: 1. I have had their food before, usually it is very good and their service is excellent. I went to get some breakfast before work and sat in the empty drive thru for 5 minutes, no one was there to take my order on their headset. I pulled up to the window and the cafe looked completely empty while their drive thru window was wide open. I went inside to just see what was going on and then someone came out from the back saying their headsets were not working properly. Interesting because I was there the day prior and the headsets were working just fine. It is just disappointing. read more

I went there for an iced latte and had been there before. The coffee was pretty good. I asked for light ice this time and was told there was an up charge because I'd be getting double the product. I asked what the size was and was told 12 oz. I asked if the cup was bigger than 12 oz and was told no. I then said so without the ice I'm getting the advertised product amount so I didn't understand the up charge. So I'm paying for 12 and getting 6 and you want me to pay MORE to get the 12oz I already paid for?. She said if I want 12oz, get it hot. I walked out after that. I travel often and this is the only place in St. Louis that has Beignets! If you've never experienced a beignet you are missing out. Now let's talk the staff.
