My wife and I went to Pappo's on Saturday because we heard about the great pizza reviews from her customers and friends. We arrived at 6pm and beat the crowd. Met the hostess and were seated immediately. Place was small (about 10 tables) and quaint. Waiter approached us within 5 minutes and asked if we wanted drinks. We told him that we drink cabernet sauvignon and asked for his recommendation. He came back with two glasses of Montepulciano wine that was rich, bold and fruity. The waiter gave us ample time to enjoy our wine. When the waiter came back, we ordered a Caesar salad to share. My wife was admiring the pizza on the table next to us and ordered the same. Withing a couple of minutes we received our salad. It was a nice size enough to have a second helping. The romaine lettuce was crispy and fresh with parmesan cheese, crunchy croutons and a creamy Caesar dressing. Lets just say we cleaned our plates. Once we were done our pizza came and it was piping hot. It was a 14' pizza that had mozzarella, basil pepperoni and a nice crispy crust. I am a fan of New York pizza because it's thin and I can fold it in half to enjoy. This pizza did not disappoint nice chewy cheese, salty and oily pepperoni, fresh basil, chewy middle and crispy crush. My wife and I were hungry but could only finish two pieces each and brought the other four slices home. The waiter asked if we wanted dessert and we said we better be good but ordered two more glasses of wine. While we were enjoying our wine table next to us receive their dessert. I looked over and had to make a comment that you must be heaven because the tiramisu looked so good. The lady was so nice and cut a piece of her dessert and gave it to us to try. We tried denying it but she was persistent. Boy she was right creamy, soft spongy lady fingers coco and a sprinkle of expresso. After that we introduced ourselves and made new friends. We stopped by here for the first time on Friday evening for dinner. We were greeted immediately and got our name on the list for the next available table. It was really busy inside and we had about maybe a 10 minute wait for a table. This place offers inside and outside sitting. The inside of the restaurant is extremely small with a few tables. Since this place was so small in the inside, it felt very loud and a little difficult to hear the person across the table from me. We ordered the meatball appetizer and garlic knots. They were both great. I would highly recommend them both. We also ordered a pepperoni pizza and added sausage. The pizza lacked in flavor and felt like it was missing something. The crust was ok, it thin and crispy. It was very light on the sauce, cheese and toppings. I do highly recommend ordering the soft serve for dessert. I got the deconstructed spumoni, it came with cherries, pistachios, chocolate chips, with vanilla ice cream. The soft serve is worth going back for by itself. The beverages are limited. For soda, they only offer Alameda Soda. Limited options of beers, and I think some wines. As for parking, there is street parking or a small parking lot on the side both have meters. Overall, I was impressed with the appetizers and dessert, but to me the pizza needs improvement. I will give this place another try, and maybe try a different pizza. This was my first time at Pappo and the food was delicious! I called in an order over the phone for pick up and the woman on the phone was nice. Also answered all my questions that I had about the menu. They let me know how time before the order was ready. The one downside was their text system wasn't working to let me know the food was ready, so I had to call back. The place was packed when I arrived to pick up the food. The food was still warm and everyone loved it. Paparoni pizza was delicious I love the sweet and savory taste. The Caesar was good but the croutons were a little stale. Chicken wings were perfectly fried but I would say need a little more seasoning. The Rigatoni was delicious, the sauce was super thick and flavorful. This has to be my favorite pizza outside of NYC! I have tried many pizzas in different styles all over the country, and this went straight to the top 3. The sauce was perfectly tangy, which is just how I like it. There was also a lot of sauce, which I also prefer, without the crust getting soggy. The crust was crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. It wasn't too oily and the cheese wasn't too salty. I loved the grated parmesan. Literally a perfect slice of pizza. The garlic knots were also amazing, even though they didn't really have a strong garlic flavor. The bread tasted buttery and didn't even need marinara dipping sauce because it was scrumptious on its own. It was soooo soft! The spicy vodka fusilli wasn't my favorite and I wouldn't order it again. It was just too simple and lacked depth. I would recommend skipping the pasta and order pizza only! The ranch had a tang to it which I did not like (had to pay for ranch). The downside was the wait to be seated (about 30 minutes) due to the small restaurant and the service. They do have a small amount of outdoor seating. Despite having many employees standing behind the counter, our server was the sole person tending to us when he was already busy assisting other tables and even bussing them. The food was served pretty quickly after ordering, but no one was able to come back and ask us if we needed anything (such as water refills). Our server was really kind but unfortunately looked overworked. It just didn't seem like they had strong teamwork, such as others helping even when they're not asked to. The soft serve ice cream was absolutely delicious and also 10/10 for flavor and texture. I would love to try it with olive oil next time! To get a tasty pizza while avoiding the slow service, I think I will opt for ordering online for takeout when I come back. Also, parking is pretty challenging during busy hours such as dinner. I may be a little biased with my review because I wholeheartedly love deep dish Chicago style pizza! In my opinion, the pizza was okay, but I don't feel it was worth the price. It seemed a bit light on the sauce and cheese, so it lacked the flavor I was expecting. I was hoping for a better balance of ingredients, especially given the cost. I was in Alameda looking for a bite without the fam post-work. I've heard so many fun things about Pizzeria Pappo that I decided I would give it a try for a solo dining experience. Such a cozy spot ~ would love to come back for a date night or with a girlfriend. After being seated inside (they have a parklet also), I ordered a nice glass of red and a plate of the Rigatoni a la Bolognese ($25). The pasta sauce consisted of an all-beef ragu, cream, stracciatella, and olive oil. I also ordered a few slices of pizza to-go for the fam: a slice of the Sausage & Peppers, Bianco (ricotta cream), and a Cheese. I couldn't go home w/o getting pizza from here! The staff was so sweet and efficient. The server had fun pizza slice earrings on, and you could tell the love and admiration they have for the food and space/place. Other notable dishes I saw during my visit were the Cauliflower Caccio e Pepe app, the Shrimp Linguini, and the Eggplant or Chicken Parm served with sautéed broccolini and butter noodles. I appreciated the local Alameda Soda and local brews like Humble Sea they serve too. The pizza was deliciously crisp and so flavorful. Same with the super comforting ragu sauce. You could bottle that up. All in all, can't wait for round two! Parking can be challenging, but not impossible. Just make sure to re-up the meter :) read more

First time at the restaurant and really enjoyed ourselves. The salad was the star of the meal... I could eat that every day and be a happy camper! So fresh and flavorful! My son gave the pizza a score of "436 out of 5", so I think he liked it. Haha. The crust was tasty and had that nice foldable quality to it. The cauliflower was good- especially with the sauce. The service was okay- I think they forgot about us for a bit, but the waitress apologized about it and honestly, it wasn't a big deal because I wasn't in any kind of rush. Pizzeria Pappo is proof that good hospitality still exists: I just got back from my very first visit to Pizzeria Pappo. Upon entering, the environment was casual, cozy, but also buzzing. My husband and I arrived about 5:30, and were notified of about a 30-45 min wait as most tables were just seated (they open at 5pm). They kindly offered us a seat inside on their bench and provided us with water and even took our drink orders. After a small seating hiccup in which our host took full accountability, we were seated and comped drinks (that was so kind as I was not expecting that). The smell of dough and garlic permeated the restaurant, really enticing our taste buds! We started with their meatballs and garlic knots. Now I make meatballs all the time at home and I don't mean to toot my own horn, they are good. But these?? Perfection. They were so juicy and tender and the sauce was perfect. The garlic knots were also worth the hype. For our mains we ordered the chicken parm and the rigatoni bolognese. There was a bit of a wait for the mains, but we didn't mind as we were just enjoying our time. During that time we had two different people check on us and to reassure us our food was on the way. When they did, our dishes came out HOT and were so worth the wait. I did forget that a proper bolognese has carrots (not my favorite veg), nonetheless it was good but I did prefer my husband's chicken parm. We rounded off dinner with the deconstructed spumoni, which I absolutely LOVED. The chocolate chips and pistachios had such a nice crunch and the cherries added the perfect amount of acidity to balance the rich soft serve ice cream. Witchfest finally allowed us to sample Pizzeria Pappo; their schedule has been a challenge for us. It was so very much worth the wait! The Bianco really brought me back to the flavors of the pie of the same name at Ike Sewell's original Pizzeria Uno (who claim to have invented the deep dish Chicago pizza in 1943). The ricotta and onions pop! So much joy! The pepperoni was a great homage to the great NY/NJ pie, and way more convenient than flying across the country. Perhaps a bit more restrained than the pepperoni at Morley G's, over on Park Street. The restaurant was compact, clean, high-energy, and full of happy, animated diners. The staff we met were helpful, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. No off notes. Pappo has a wide menu, about which I'm really excited. The anchovy-stuffed olives are next on my list, followed by the Chicken Parmigiana. See y'all there! read more

I was in Alameda for work for 2.5 weeks and ended up eating at Pizzeria Pappo three times during my stay. The interior feels like a chic modern pizza place but has classic elements to it like subway tiles. The inside seating area is not super big so there may be a wait during busy times. They also have outdoor seating available which is nice for warm weather. The menu isn't huge but still has a variety of offerings. I got pizza twice and also tried their vodka pasta. Everything was extremely tasty and the pizza crust was crisp and delicious. They also have a variety of drinks (alcoholic but also mocktails!) and desserts to try. I'd highly recommend saving room for dessert if you can. Servers were nice and took time to interact with the table even when it was busy. And I will say, the restaurant is quite small and can get noisy. Overall cozy place! Food - Garlic Knots Hmm now we've had this before maybe a few months ago during their lunch service, I just didn't get around to making a review...their lunch service garlic knots were a bit more garlicky and buttery. I'm a native New Yorker and us New Yorkers are extremely picky about our pizza lol! After a 12 hour shift at the hospital I was craving a slice and after looking at yelp reviews for a good 25 minutes I finally decided on coming to pizzeria pappo. I ordered wings online and grabbed a few slices when I got there. I was pleasantly surprised by the restaurant. It's very cute and classy inside and people don't only come for the pizza. It was pretty busy on a Saturday night, with several parties eating dinner in the main front restaurant. I was pleasantly greeted by the front staff. My wings were ready and they also packed up a few cheese slices for me. Ooook so for the food. This is the best pizza I've had in months. I can even say that it's better than a lot of of the pizza I have back in New York. It's perfectly thin, crispy and I can tell that they use the freshest and best ingredients. There's nothing better than a thin crispy crunch when you fold yah pizza in half! The wings were also super crispy and the dill pickle ranch dressing is a star- 10/10. Omg seriously THE BEST pizza I've had in the East Bay!! The dough is chewy and bouncy in the best way possible. Flavors were top notch and it was the perfect sauce to dough ratio in my opinion. The atmosphere here is also so cute. Interior is modern and there's ample seating indoors and outdoors. Service was also splendid here! Feels almost family owned in a way (maybe they are??). Pizzeria Pappo is the newest spot in this area of Alameda and it exceeded my expectation. Personally, I'm not the biggest pizza fan, but I was pleasantly surprised. My partner and I ordered a few items to share including: 1) Margherita Pizza - you really can't hide anything in a Margherita pizza and this was delicious! The thin crust was perfect and wasn't soggy at all! We really enjoyed the simple toppings as they were fresh. 2) Panko Crusted Eggplant Panino - this was my favorite! The eggplant was lightly crusted and has such a nice crunch! I also loved the mozzarella cheese and red peppers paired with the sandwich. It was the perfect bite! We arrived around 6pm and scored a table right away. They've added seating in the carpark which was nice. Our server was really sweet. She provided excellent (water cup was never empty, asked if we had any questions about the menu, asked if we enjoyed what we ordered) and attentive service. For starters, we shared the beet salad. It was yellow beets paired with arugula, whipped ricotta cheese and crushed pistachios. It sounded very simple but yet very delicious. Our pizza arrived shortly after we were done with our salad. The pizza came out piping hot out of the wood oven and it smelled phenomenal. The pizza were thin w/crispy crust and folded with ease. The Papporoni Special (pepperoni, goat horn peppers, stracciatella, hot honey, basil) was chef's kiss. We took our first bite and we were in love. We could of finished the 14" pizza but we had to save room for my fave Strauss soft serve ice cream. It was a bit on the soft side this evening but very good. Since moving to Alameda from San Francisco last September, we've been slowly exploring the local restaurant scene--and Pizzeria Pappo is hands down our favorite pizza spot so far. Half the tables were already full, and it's a small, cozy spot with only a few 2- and 4-top tables. We were lucky to snag a seat because by 5:30, several parties were waiting for second seating. The whole experience--from the service to the presentation--reminded us of the kind of polished, thoughtful dinners we used to have regularly on our SF date nights. We ordered the Bianco pizza, and it was phenomenal. Super well-balanced with the lemon zest and ricotta, and it had great bite, excellent dough, and a perfect carriage. The golden beet salad was super fresh and refreshing, a nice contrast to the richness of the pizza. The meatballs were just okay in our opinion, but we wanted some protein to pair with our veggie pizza. Dipping the crust with the leftover marina from the meatballs was perfect. We ended the meal with their vanilla soft serve topped with olive oil and salt--unexpected, simple, and the perfect closer. We're already planning a return visit to try more of their pizzas.
