Service and Staff: - Came here on a Saturday afternoon with four other people and we were lucky to get a seat within 10 minutes. There is outdoor and indoor seating available, but indoor seating isn't the best for larger groups - The staff was all friendly Food and Drinks: - Fresh Lemonade: tart and delicious - Pizza: my friends did a build your own pizza with pepperoni, olives, sausage, and anchovies. They all enjoyed it - Meatball Sub: I forgot to take a picture! Regardless, this meatball sub was quite large, filling, and delicious. I ordered it with a Caesar salad on the side (instead of the house salad). I ate half and gave the other half away (it was so good, but very filling) Miscellaneous: - Parking is available via street parking - Better for smaller groups (we did see a group of 3 adults and 3 kids, but they were sitting tight in a corner) - Indoor and outdoor seating available

This was my first time at Pappo and the food was delicious! I called in an order over the phone for pick up and the woman on the phone was nice. Also answered all my questions that I had about the menu. They let me know how time before the order was ready. The one downside was their text system wasn't working to let me know the food was ready, so I had to call back. The place was packed when I arrived to pick up the food. The food was still warm and everyone loved it. Paparoni pizza was delicious I love the sweet and savory taste. The Caesar was good but the croutons were a little stale. Chicken wings were perfectly fried but I would say need a little more seasoning. The Rigatoni was delicious, the sauce was super thick and flavorful. Definitely will be coming back to dine in!

    Delicious cheese pizza!

This has to be my favorite pizza outside of NYC! I have tried many pizzas in different styles all over the country, and this went straight to the top 3. The sauce was perfectly tangy, which is just how I like it. There was also a lot of sauce, which I also prefer, without the crust getting soggy. The crust was crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside. It wasn't too oily and the cheese wasn't too salty. I loved the grated parmesan. Literally a perfect slice of pizza. The garlic knots were also amazing, even though they didn't really have a strong garlic flavor. The bread tasted buttery and didn't even need marinara dipping sauce because it was scrumptious on its own. It was soooo soft! The spicy vodka fusilli wasn't my favorite and I wouldn't order it again. It was just too simple and lacked depth. I would recommend skipping the pasta and order pizza only! The ranch had a tang to it which I did not like (had to pay for ranch). The downside was the wait to be seated (about 30 minutes) due to the small restaurant and the service. They do have a small amount of outdoor seating. Despite having many employees standing behind the counter, our server was the sole person tending to us when he was already busy assisting other tables and even bussing them. The food was served pretty quickly after ordering, but no one was able to come back and ask us if we needed anything (such as water refills). Our server was really kind but unfortunately looked overworked. It just didn't seem like they had strong teamwork, such as others helping even when they're not asked to. The soft serve ice cream was absolutely delicious and also 10/10 for flavor and texture. I would love to try it with olive oil next time! To get a tasty pizza while avoiding the slow service, I think I will opt for ordering online for takeout when I come back. Also, parking is pretty challenging during busy hours such as dinner. There is a bathroom for customers.

Loved my experience at Pizzeria Pappo tonight. My Meatballs hit the spot and the linguini with shrimp was AMAZING. Our waitress paid attention to detail and made us feel welcomed. Super clean looking interior. Great service. And delicious comida.

Rigatoni was meaty and healthy size. Mortadella sandwich was refreshing and tasty. Pizza was a bit dry for my taste. Sat outside in the parklet. Dog friendly and gave a water bowl for my pup. Order and pay inside. Service was fast and friendly.

I may be a little biased with my review because I wholeheartedly love deep dish Chicago style pizza! In my opinion, the pizza was okay, but I don't feel it was worth the price. It seemed a bit light on the sauce and cheese, so it lacked the flavor I was expecting. I was hoping for a better balance of ingredients, especially given the cost. I'd be willing to give it another try if the portions were a little more generous next time.

good but overpriced, ordered three dishes (pizza, pasta, appetizer) and was $90. id go someplace else, i don't think it was worth the money

I was in Alameda looking for a bite without the fam post-work. I've heard so many fun things about Pizzeria Pappo that I decided I would give it a try for a solo dining experience. Such a cozy spot ~ would love to come back for a date night or with a girlfriend. After being seated inside (they have a parklet also), I ordered a nice glass of red and a plate of the Rigatoni a la Bolognese ($25). The pasta sauce consisted of an all-beef ragu, cream, stracciatella, and olive oil. I also ordered a few slices of pizza to-go for the fam: a slice of the Sausage & Peppers, Bianco (ricotta cream), and a Cheese. I couldn't go home w/o getting pizza from here! The staff was so sweet and efficient. The server had fun pizza slice earrings on, and you could tell the love and admiration they have for the food and space/place. Other notable dishes I saw during my visit were the Cauliflower Caccio e Pepe app, the Shrimp Linguini, and the Eggplant or Chicken Parm served with sautéed broccolini and butter noodles. I appreciated the local Alameda Soda and local brews like Humble Sea they serve too. The pizza was deliciously crisp and so flavorful. Same with the super comforting ragu sauce. You could bottle that up. All in all, can't wait for round two! Parking can be challenging, but not impossible. Just make sure to re-up the meter :)

First time at the restaurant and really enjoyed ourselves. The salad was the star of the meal... I could eat that every day and be a happy camper! So fresh and flavorful! My son gave the pizza a score of "436 out of 5", so I think he liked it. Haha. The crust was tasty and had that nice foldable quality to it. The cauliflower was good- especially with the sauce. The service was okay- I think they forgot about us for a bit, but the waitress apologized about it and honestly, it wasn't a big deal because I wasn't in any kind of rush. It's a charming, neighborhood pizzeria and I understand why they got the "best of" reviews in Alameda this year.

Pizzeria Pappo is proof that good hospitality still exists: I just got back from my very first visit to Pizzeria Pappo. Upon entering, the environment was casual, cozy, but also buzzing. My husband and I arrived about 5:30, and were notified of about a 30-45 min wait as most tables were just seated (they open at 5pm). They kindly offered us a seat inside on their bench and provided us with water and even took our drink orders. After a small seating hiccup in which our host took full accountability, we were seated and comped drinks (that was so kind as I was not expecting that). The smell of dough and garlic permeated the restaurant, really enticing our taste buds! We started with their meatballs and garlic knots. Now I make meatballs all the time at home and I don't mean to toot my own horn, they are good. But these?? Perfection. They were so juicy and tender and the sauce was perfect. The garlic knots were also worth the hype. For our mains we ordered the chicken parm and the rigatoni bolognese. There was a bit of a wait for the mains, but we didn't mind as we were just enjoying our time. During that time we had two different people check on us and to reassure us our food was on the way. When they did, our dishes came out HOT and were so worth the wait. I did forget that a proper bolognese has carrots (not my favorite veg), nonetheless it was good but I did prefer my husband's chicken parm. We rounded off dinner with the deconstructed spumoni, which I absolutely LOVED. The chocolate chips and pistachios had such a nice crunch and the cherries added the perfect amount of acidity to balance the rich soft serve ice cream. Throughout the service, the team was kind and never let our water glasses go empty. Overall 10/10. Food, service, ambience. I really enjoyed my visit and look forward to coming back!

    Bianco and pepperoni slices
    Michael S.

Witchfest finally allowed us to sample Pizzeria Pappo; their schedule has been a challenge for us. It was so very much worth the wait! The Bianco really brought me back to the flavors of the pie of the same name at Ike Sewell's original Pizzeria Uno (who claim to have invented the deep dish Chicago pizza in 1943). The ricotta and onions pop! So much joy! The pepperoni was a great homage to the great NY/NJ pie, and way more convenient than flying across the country. Perhaps a bit more restrained than the pepperoni at Morley G's, over on Park Street. The restaurant was compact, clean, high-energy, and full of happy, animated diners. The staff we met were helpful, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. No off notes. Pappo has a wide menu, about which I'm really excited. The anchovy-stuffed olives are next on my list, followed by the Chicken Parmigiana. See y'all there!

I was in Alameda for work for 2.5 weeks and ended up eating at Pizzeria Pappo three times during my stay. The interior feels like a chic modern pizza place but has classic elements to it like subway tiles. The inside seating area is not super big so there may be a wait during busy times. They also have outdoor seating available which is nice for warm weather. The menu isn't huge but still has a variety of offerings. I got pizza twice and also tried their vodka pasta. Everything was extremely tasty and the pizza crust was crisp and delicious. They also have a variety of drinks (alcoholic but also mocktails!) and desserts to try. I'd highly recommend saving room for dessert if you can. Servers were nice and took time to interact with the table even when it was busy. Prices were a little on the high side but I found it to be worth it for the food and experience.

Service - 4/5 Ambience - 4/5 Food - 4/5 Alameda has needed a proper pizzeria for a while. Came on a Saturday around 1:30 and was seated immediately. Papporoni Pizza - a great meat pizza. Probably the best pizza on the island. Perfect level of thickness in the crust Broccolini- pretty salty, but good enough. Golden Beet Salad - this was fine, but probably wouldn't order again.

After scoping out the vibes of the place and the menu, I told myself to make sure to give this a shot. The place is in a redeveloped corner of Alameda right next to the bay. Probably used to be Navy base grounds back in the day. But now there's a couple of blocks worth of hip warehouse-y type of buildings, mostly restaurants, beer spots, some lofts and a little retail commerce. Very happening even though the surrounding area is a ghost town. Dining area not too big, maybe a couple of rooms that can hold about 20-30 heads each. Think there's another room for a private party/overflow. Decor pretty minimalist and stark. Service on the upscale side but in my stay, matched the decor, very minimalist and stark. Efficient enough but a little terse with little emotion. But I know service personality can differ from time to time or person to person. Just my obsy for one out. Daily Crudo ($20/4*) I think this rotates daily. Our choices that day was hamachi or a house smoked sturgeon. The sturgeon really piqued my interest but then it really wouldn't be a 'crudo' anymore would it, since I relate crudos to something 'raw-ish'. So I chose the hamachi. Very pretty plating, I love symmetry and balance. The thin slices of hamachi were indeed fresh, sitting in a stealthy pool of yuzu and olive oil. There are some fresno pepper slices and microgreens that garnish and a delicious nori cracker to break and accompany the crudo. This went really well with my glass of Fume Blanc. Caeser ($17/4.5*) We split this salad as their version sounded super cool. A miso-tinged Caeser dressing, lots of rustic garlic croutons and feathery soft grated parm and a soft-boiled egg. I love properly made Caesers and this was one of the best and unique versions I've ever had. The umami punch and the diverse textures just hit with me. A tad salty for a salad, but the crunchy and refreshing lettuce was able to absorb the salt blast. Huge salad too, like ideal for splitting and ridiculously large if for 1. Beef Short Rib ($43/4*) This was on special that night, and since I wasn't feeling Steak Frites (their only other beef entree option) this kinda fell on my lap. Very heavy and hearty dish. The short rib part was impeccable, super tender, gotta be sous vide. Perfectly seasoned with braising elements completely penetrated into the meat. There was a coarse gravy/sauce that covered which was okay, may have been the braising liquid just pureed. Served atop a huge pile of some risotto that I didn't inquire about. This risotto is what made the dish especially heavy. I ate most of it and it put me in a heavy carb coma. Lol. But there was a nice serving of perfectly cooked broccolini which helped balanced out the rich beef and carb heavy risotto. Chocolate Bar ($13/4.5*) Shared this for dessert as I really couldn't take more than just a few bites after the filling entree. But was this impressive, like high end dessert quality. Whoever does the desserts here definitely has some pedigree. The precision cut bar consisted of 3 layers. A brownie layer; a Bailey's mousse; and a salted caramel layer. I was loving the texture of all the different layers playing on one another. And every flavor was distinct without being overly sweet, which hit the right chords with me. A thick ganache garnished off to the side, which was good but just seemed a bit overkill with the already chocolate dominant bar. I think a cream element would have been a better contrast instead of rich chocolate on rich chocolate. But very minor quip on an otherwise skillful dessert. I finished the last few sips of my glass of Rhone with this dessert, and it left me one happy camper. I would definitely return as their style with flavors hits an accord with me. A little French, a smidge of Japanese and a lot of California. Rounding to a fiver, as this place made me more happy than not.

We arrived for our outdoor reservation, which is situated on the sidewalk. There was a nice heat lamp set up but the traffic on the road was quite loud. The service members were really delightful. We informed them that we had to jump online to sign up for kids aftercare classes at 8pm to make sure they didn't think we were being pretentious d-bags at that time, which they all understood and encouraged us on. The menu is short and concise with three courses, each with a couple options. The wine list was very extensive and offered a ton of choices. We both decided to start with the Gazpacho and I ordered the Sugo pasta while my wife ordered the risotto. To finish I ordered the chocolate tart while my wife had the sorbet. First off, the gazpacho was amazing, easily a 10 out of 10! The flavor and texture was simply perfect. The Focaccia was also really good and an order must. The mains were good, but didn't quite hit the spot for us. The risotto lacked a bit in flavor, considering all the ingredients it consisted of. The Sugo sauce was good, but I found the pasta to be a bit undercooked; it was a thicker pasta that needed a little more time and didn't really adhere to the sauce that well. Overall I am giving it 4 stars, but this is mainly due to the mains that were served. The service staff were 5 stars as well as the gazpacho!

My partner ordered the chicken breast that came with a sort gravy on top with a side potato purée. I ordered the filet mignon with potato purée that was loaded with bacon, chives, sour cream and blue cheese. Both of our orders came with a sparse selection of 3-4 stalks of asparagus that had some yellowish color. It didn't have the freshest taste. My filet mignon was rather small in size, not much flavor and the potato puree could be something better when made at home (I.e. nothing outstanding). The calamari and gnocchi appetizers were OK but not more elevated than what we could get at a conventional diner. The presentation was somewhat reminiscent of cafeteria food. We were disappointed though still finished our meal. The atmosphere at CK is lit just right for romance without being too dark, completely clean, relaxed yet unsurprisingly quite empty for a Saturday night. The value of the meal was not reflective of the high rating that attracted us to CK in the first place. We likely will pay what we did for a better overall dinner experience elsewhere and consider trying out CK for brunch.

My favorite part is their collection thoughtful, balanced, complex drinks. If you want a variety of delectable old fashioneds with different spirits -- you're in luck! ---- Drinks ---- The cocktails are the main reason we keep coming back! Old Fashioned menu. They actually have several varieties and I've really appreciated how they use a different spirit for each! I won't review every single one, but you can't go wrong based on what flavor profile you want. They're all relatively sophisticated, balanced, spirit-forward, and consistently well made. The rest of the cocktail menu is equally thoughtful. Complex, creative, and well executed without trying too hard or going over the top with flavors or presentation. The food is delicious as well although we're usually just here for drinks before/after a meal. More small bites than full meals, but everything we've had has been tasty and pairs well with the drinks. We really enjoyed the empanadas; great flavor and execution. ---- Environment ---- Warm, cozy, and stylish -- but not pretentious or obnoxious. Music volume is always at a level where you can actually have a conversation, which I really appreciate! It does get busy, especially on weekends, but it's never been extreme. We've been seated immediately or only with a short wait most times. ---- Service ---- Friendly, welcoming, and attentive! Always had good experiences with the staff even when busy. Most of them have good recommendations. ---- Tips ---- Make a reservation if you can! Walk-ins are definitely possible, though you may end up sharing a larger communal table. We've done it before and honestly didn't mind. The bathroom can occasionally have a bit of a wait. ---- Overall ---- Love this place. It's become our go-to spot whenever we're in the mood for great cocktails and a relaxed evening and want a reliable experience. One of my favorite cocktail bars in Alameda.
