    Large pep

We've been here before but this time I was more observant and noticed unsanitary conditions. The worker was an older lady with black short hair pretty unfriendly. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza (whole), $36.65 She got the raw dough, started pressing it with her hands, then her cell rang. She picked up the call touched her phone and continued to press our dough. Never washed her hands. Disgusting. The entire time I watched her make our pizza and other pizzas, she never washed her hands. Gross.

I've been to New York, and this is NOT "NY style". Service is excellent though!! We ordered 3 slices, it was about $5.75 per slice from the menu. We got one meat combo, one veggie and one plain cheese. The meat combo had pepperoni, salami and sausage. All of the meats were not salty enough and had little to no flavor. Such a bummer! The veggie pizza was nothing special and even the plain cheese wasn't that good. The dough is not as thin as New York, it was still a bit too chewy. The size of the slices were good but in my opinion pricey. I'd give it a 2/5 on flavor, but 3/5 for overall pizza joint. Unfortunately I won't be coming back, but the slices are made to order and the service was really good.

After a tour of the city, we worked up an appetite! This place which was a few doors down from the gocar place was perfect! They had pizzas by the slice and they were nice slice slices too! It was quite busy inside too so I assume it's either good busy or everyone's hungry or a bit of both lol. The slice of cheese pizza we got was pretty big too so I split the slice with a friend which was perfect! The pizza was hot and they had things like Parmesan, garlic oil, red pepper flakes as options to put on your pizza. I'm not sure what time they are open til but I feel like they are place that you can go to and get after a drunken night or after the night out at the club. Service was quick and ambiance it was many tables and chairs around the establishment with a walk up to the register and put your order in with the cashier. They also had tables outside which is where we opted to eat our pizza! If you're not particular about pizza but love pizza and you want something, go here!

We were drawn in by the pizza by the slice sign, but we realized we all wanted the meat combo so ordered a medium pizza instead. It was $32 dollars (hence only 3 stars). The pizza was ok, a little greasy, but overall good. There are three or four tables inside and three or four tables outside. The inside tables all had trash on them and there wasn't an obvious place to clear your own table. If you are a big The Room fan staring Tommy Wiseau, there are pictures of him with owner on the wall as well as a large mural of him on the side of the building. Some scenes in The Room were shot in this location.

This is my pizza place when I'm in the city. Good service and great taste. Haven't really tried anything else in the menu but with how good the pizza is I'm not even tempted.

I got a single slice; pepperoni & black olives. The pizza had a chewy dough with a crunchy exterior with satiating salty extra cheesy pepperoni toppings. Reminds me of the delicious pizza you find on the streets of New York! The toppings are just about as generous as their pizza slices! The older Asian man at the front was super kind and friendly! Quick to help and provide great service. The location is tucked behind the busy embarcadero street. You get there by cutting between two buildings. The interior has hanging lights, nothing fancy but a great late night pizza run location. The chewy dough leaves you wanting more! One of my fav places now!

Definitely a good place to grab good slice of pizza. It feels fresh because he adds the topping to cheese once you order and recooks it. The person taking the order was nice. Plenty of indoor and outdoor door seating, with comfortable feels.

I had a slice of pizza that featured a combination of mushrooms, pepperoni, salami, and cheese. The flavors were fantastic, and the toppings were generous.

THE late night spot in fisherman's wharf. Great service, worker named Mathew is the best!!

This is great pizza for the location. It is almost as good a NY Style pizza and I give it similar/higher rankings, mainly because of the service, which is even harder to get these days. I say this only because I tried to get a pizza from the competing pizza place across the street from this one, 40 minutes before they closed, and the chef, sitting in a chair watching TV yelled, "We're closed." I really wanted to try the other place, since they rant and rave about their brick oven, but after that, they lost a customer. I instead went to Pizza Zone, which I have only had slices before in the past. It was same as the other place, close to closing and no one inside. However, the pizza chef at this place was very nice. I asked if he could still cook me a whole pizza, as I had been craving one all week while in San Francisco. He said, "Absolutely," and took my order and began to cook it fresh right in front of me. See the photos attached. I also ordered a beer, and sat outside watching him wield his craft, as I could see his competition sitting lazily watching TV. Note to the competition owner, you lost a customer because of poor service, and Pizza Zone has gained a loyal customer who visits this area a number of times per year, and will continually order from them in the future. I ordered a pizza with extra cheese, pepperoni, sausage, beef, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers. He was nice enough to give me extra parmesan cheese, cracked peppers, and plates, without even asking. I arrived in my hotel room and dug in. It was truly amazing. Fresh and extra toppings without even asking. See the photos. The topping were gigantic and tasty. This pizza even beat the taste and quality of some of the local joints in upstate NY, that I frequent. I am glad I gave him a nice tip. I only hope the owner reads this and gives the chef kudos and a raise, as the pizza is great, but not without the great service of his pizza chef.

Pizza was just okay. Crust was decent. Sauce was a little bland. Price was $35 for a large 16" with 2 toppings. The to-go box was $1 extra.

We sat down and the hostess proceeded to tell my son and I that we would need to take our hats off "in the dining room." Mind you again this is lunch, the restaurant is full of kids and tourists. Take aback a bit my son and I took our hats off to reveal the hair you would expect from 2 people that just came off a boat and a tour of Alcatraz. As she walked away we noticed another gentleman had his has on 2 tables down. We found it odd so I asked the hostess if there was a reason he was allowed to be wearing a hat. She immediately got very indignant with me and remarked "it's a request we make." To which I responded..."ok so we can wear our hats" again very rude and smug and indignant she replied "yes but my son must wear it forward and not backward." Ok so why not just make that request? But again this is tourist central, at lunch time, in a restaurant that's in my mind a marginally upscale BJs. Please get over yourself "Hillstone" We then proceeded to sit and watch a minimum of 3 women all come in with hats on of different sorts. Large brim, beret etc. NONE OF THEM had the same request made of them. Completely absurd. Ok moving on, next issue. I was already annoyed but ordered the omelette. "Cheese and herbs" were the ingredients. Ok no problem I'll ask them to add some meat or bacon to it, they have those things in other menu items, shouldn't be an issue...or so you'd think. So the waiter returns and I order the omelette and say "can you please just add some bacon to it, I see you have bacon in the salads" to which the waiter responds. "No I'm sorry we can't do it. It's a composed recipe we don't like to change, but I'll be happy to give you bacon on the side." Uh what? Your customer just requested bacon and you won't do it because you like the recipe the way it is?!?! So yah maybe they make it some special way? Ok omelette shows up and it's literally a thin rolled egg with goat cheese... bland as can be, and NO I don't want the bacon on the side. Hillstone needs to recognize it's not a high end restaurant... it's in a tourist area, and guess what. A hat is a hat... women's, men's, forward or backward and at lunch you gotta expect people to be dressed casual. You're ok with kids sitting watching cartoons full blast on cellphones, you're ok with women in tennis outfits... but somehow a nice ball cap lowers the level of your clientele? Well not to worry you definitely have one less family now that you have to worry about in your restaurant. Also as a side note... ordering a soda in a restaurant nowadays (especially one with a bar) is pretty standard fare to have refills.... Vs tiny glass bottles and $5 per refill. This place is an epic fail!! Only reason it gets 2 stars is that my son liked his salmon. That's it.

The space had a nice casual atmosphere with friendly service, and it's connected to their quick-service pizza shop which gives it a fun, lively vibe without feeling too hectic. We ordered the margherita pizza, cacio e pepe pizza, Caesar salad, and the shop salad. Out of everything, the cacio e pepe pizza was definitely the standout for me -- really flavorful, rich without feeling too heavy, and just overall super satisfying. The margherita was also good, though I personally wished it had a bit more basil to brighten it up. One thing that really stood out across both pizzas was how good the dough and crust were. The crust had that perfect balance of chewy and crisp with great texture and flavor on its own, which honestly makes such a difference for pizza. Overall, a great spot for pizza in SF with solid ingredients, good atmosphere, and friendly service. Would definitely come back to try more of the menu next time.
