Boudin never disappoints! Consistent taste and quality every time, even at different locations (such as Disneyland)! I came with a group of friends who were all tourists and first timers to Boudin, and they were all so happy and satisfied with their meals. Everyone ordered a bread bowl with a soup (clam and crab chowder). The sourdough bread bowl was so soft and actually had that sour taste to it that some sourdoughs lack. The portion size is great for the price of $15. Despite being a busy tourist destination, the cafe is very efficient with ordering and food service. They are really on top of it! There's lots of outdoor seating and limited indoor seating. There are free water cups for diners. There is a bathroom upstairs. I'd recommend using DoorDash or ubereats instead because the prices slightly differ and it's the most expensive through Grubhub...there's also more salad options for the combo through the other food delivery apps. Although the cafe was busy, the line moves fast and if you are ordering clam chowder they have an assembly line of staff pumping out your order with the quickness. Super rich and creamy, it was perfect with the cold weather outside. Wasn't that crowded during our visit, which I was very surprised about. Boudin Bakery & Cafe is a true San Francisco tradition! It was founded in 1849 by Isidore Boudin, a French immigrant from a family of master bakers in Burgundy. It is San Francisco's oldest continuously operating business, 172 years and counting! They have several locations around the Bay Area, and I happen to live within walking distance of two of them. The one on 160 Jefferson Street is my favorite spot. It opened its doors in 2005, about ten years after I moved to San Francisco, and I became an instant fan! My little four-legged furry friend and I often walk along Jefferson Street! Often, we stop at this Boudin location for a hot chocolate, coffee, or a quick bite, whether it's a fresh-baked muffin or a Raspberry Almond Shortbread Bar in the morning, or their signature Clam Chowder in a sourdough bread bowl later in the day. We always walk away happy and satisfied. I am told that this is their flagship location, and I am not surprised. I have to say, for such a touristy location in Fisherman's Wharf, I was impressed with our delicious meal. The service was fantastic -- a true team effort from the servers. We ordered the Crab Louie salad, which was beautifully presented but felt deconstructed. I would have loved it tossed together, but it was pretty and we didn't mind putting in the work. lol. Although we missed Sunday's community event in honor of Claude's memorial [[Claude Forever: A Celebration of Life]], my family and I took the opportunity of spending our extra day off in the city. My toddler specifically requested to see and purchase a miniature version of Boudin's Claude the albino alligator loaf. Kudos to Boudin Bakery and master baker, Fernando Padilla, for taking the time to create something so beautiful, unique, and very very CLAUDE. The 8 foot long loaf took a whopping 70lbs of dough to create and even came equipped with red maraschino cherry eyes to match. The world's largest sourdough alligator couldn't have been more perfect!! Rest easy, Claude, you are absolutely missed! 5/5 stars, this drive was absolutely worth doing. read more

Boudin is one of my favorite spots to eat in the city. No matter the weather, the restaurant always has beautiful views of Fisherman's Wharf. We came in hungry and were very happy that our servers consistently came to take our orders. I was especially impressed with the caesar salad, the dressing and fresh crunchy romaine lettuce really hit the spot. As a clam chowder enthusiast tourist I had to stop by The Boudin Bakery. We realized there were different areas to the bakery, we wanted a sit down and order so we were directed upstairs. While there was a host there she never greeted or acknowledged us. I let a few minutes go by and finally decided to approach the counter and they took my name down. That already put a bitter taste to the experience, we waited to be seated and when we requested to sit at a different table to have a better view the host Annie or Any said she would have to check downstairs at the front which I said ok for her to go check and let us know. Not only did she not come back the first time around, she seemed bother and annoyed that I asked about that saying that there would be no servers available. Our server was Norma and she was phenomenal with her service. I asked Norma if us changing tables would be an issue and she said there would be no problem with her serving us at the other table. The host Annie never came back and until we asked our server to ask about the change request then she came saying she couldn't, stating what really sounded like excuses. I say this because we saw 2 sets of families arrive and be sat and they wanted to move and did so without any problems. At this point it was a very disappointing experience and feeling thanks to this said host. Boudin I really hope you do better with the host training and service they provide. We ended up staying at our original table and didn't make a fuzz about it but I definitely want goers and readers to know and be aware of this. read more

Overall great experience at Boudin! For being in a touristy area, the prices were affordable, the service was speedy and the food was great! The vibe is restaurant rant is open concept and seat-yourself. The sourdough itself is moist, warm and fresh. Absolutely loved the crab-shaped sourdough loaf we got. It was super cute and delicious! We were too early for lunch upstairs so I just bought a small loaf of their sour dough bread to try. It was fantastic and glad I stopped in to buy and try. I am giving this a 3 with the caveat that I think everyone should still go if they are visiting SF. The Sourdough is great and its super fun to see all the fun shaped sourdough! The cafe itself is a little expensive like the bowl of clam chowder while delicious was just pricey for what it was BUT it was still a big bowl! There are so many parking spaces but the one infront of the cafe allows 1 hour parking if validated at the cafe. The chowder has a big portion of clams and the sourdough bread is huge. The bread is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bread is so big that you can't finish it in one sitting. Local told us to check out the best sour dough bread in sf. So we go directly to the main bakery where you can see from the outside how they make the bread. They have several different locations smaller ones, and they have it in sfo airport too in terminal 2. They are not sure if they have the creatures shapes in different locations. In this location, they have lots of selections in the bakery, also the café for sandwiches and chowder sour dough bowl and merchandise plus more stuff. Tonight I stopped by Boudin's with my lil dog to pick up my order and the service was decent but fast. The touristy cafe was clean and when I was watching the kitchen staff, they were preparing the food in a sanitary and efficient way. While the kitchen did eventually remake the meal, it was frustrating that it happened in the first place and that I had to ask a few times to get it remade before it was actually done. Boudin at the Wharf [San Francisco CA] First time stepping inside this San Francisco classic - home of the mother dough. I've always wanted to see the bakers at work crafting batches of bread by hand through their observation window. I've seen the finished sourdough critter breads shaped into a heart, teddy bear, turtle, crab, grape cluster, and even an alligator. Inside we strolled to check out the café. Nice setting with cool vibes. Since we already had eaten an early dinner we did not order any food. Shopped for souvenirs and merchandise to gift instead. They had a lot of cool merch for the cooks in your circle and some fun stuff too for those who are not as skilled in the kitchen LoL!
