The bao buns were very soft and loaded with flavor. I had the spicy pork and I wouldn't consider it spicy but it was bursting with umami. The wife had the shorty and said it tasted just like the fries but in a steamed bun. I also had the chashu but it was lacking compared to the other two. If we were to come back while visiting family we would probably get two orders of the loaded fries. The fries were super crisp and had a giant portion of short ribs, green sauce, and cilantro with radishes. The green sauce is a very unique combo of flavors but isn't spicy. The only downside today was they were out of drinks but were able to go inside York and get some water. Regardless the service was super quick and we hope to be back while visiting.

It was also very humid and stale inside, there was an old-beer smell, and we were constantly shooing away small fruit flies throughout the meal. The service was also off. When I asked our server what dishes were must-tries or most popular, he seemed surprisingly unfamiliar with the menu and struggled to give recommendations. Our drinks took a very long time despite being ordered well before the food. They didn't arrive until we were already partway through our appetizers, and mine was delayed even further because it had apparently been forgotten. The drinks themselves weren't terrible, but they were very average -- more along the lines of what I'd expect from a chain restaurant than somewhere positioning itself as an upscale dining experience. Ordering was probably the strangest part. Recommendations are completely normal and appreciated, but this felt like a constant sales pitch for upgrades and additional dishes. It made the whole ordering process uncomfortable rather than enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food didn't improve things. We ordered several sushi rolls, crispy rice, a NY strip and fried rice. The sushi tasted like it had been premade and was honestly comparable to grocery-store sushi. The crispy rice had the same issue -- nothing about it tasted particularly fresh. The biggest disappointment was the steak. Our server really sold us on it and described it as being comparable to some of the best steaks in Detroit. What arrived was cold, very fatty, tough and extremely heavily seasoned. It was genuinely one of the worst steaks I've had at a restaurant, especially at this price point. The timing of the meal was also strange, with the fried rice arriving well after the steak. At that point we asked to send the steak back and didn't even want to continue with the rest of the meal. To their credit, the restaurant did remove a few items from our bill, which we appreciated. But we ultimately left and went to another restaurant so we could actually enjoy my wife's birthday dinner. We went in genuinely wanting to like ZUZU, especially after reading the reviews, but between the atmosphere, service, drinks, food quality and timing, we were disappointed in nearly every aspect of the experience.
