Loved Locust a few nights ago, but so impressed with this spot. At a similar level here. No star, however. One of the best meals I have had in Nashville this year. I can't say enough good things. You won't find the Pastis French meals, as this is mostly a creperie, but you won't find the prices either. Will return soon. Kudos to the owners

The curse of Rumours continues!…read more I don't know that any business can survive this address. My first BW review of the year and it seems to have come as a surprise. Whispers abound as to whether the issue at VG was a rent hike or whether the owner just lost interest. In any event, it's the same sad story at the corner of 12th and Woodland. And that's too bad because VG acquitted itself nicely. On a Friday in mid-spring it was the exact right place I wanted to be to catch up with a friend. That backyard has been the stuff of legends for every iteration for a reason. If you've been here for a while, you know the score: walk in the front, smile, be greeted, ask for a table outside. That's just what we did. But before that we got drinks. Being a wine bar and being happy hour and being a Friday we went all in on the house red sangria. Served in a pleasantly large goblet, this goodie jar of wine and fruit did the job of quenching thirst and spurring conversation. To add to the libations, we settled on a series of bites: whipped feta (with sourdough -- and every bit of decadent as described in other reviews), olive tapenade (a briny, mound of oil, citrus and herbs) and (skinny) fries with parmesan & white truffle oil. Right?? What a perfect way to end the work week and begin the weekend. We had wonderful service from Abby and stayed on premises well into sundown. There was a steady crowd throughout our visit so I don't think a lack of business was the COD. Whatever the reason, it sort of boggles the mind that a wine bar concept can't stick around in a neighborhood and location that seems to crave it. That curse might be real.

Getting to finally try it on the company dime is a definite win. But my review will be as if I paid, trust me. I'm very ethical :) The appetizers were so fun. I'm not a dill fan, but I wiped off the cream freche and dill powder from the Chicken BcNuggets and without the toppings, they were pretty bland. I tried the steak tartare (my first time ever having it) and it was divine. My coworkers couldn't get enough fo the Whipped Pimento Cheese. The main courses were so good - I got the Nashvile Strip Steak without cheese (lactose intolerant) and it was so delish. The toasted potato blini was amazing. A few people got the Mediterranean Branzino and it was a little fishy (but that was the only dish that got bad reviews). There were a few Risotto and Chicken dishes and they were well received. The desserts were heavenly, too. The experience was just wonderul and the staff was so attentive (but not too much so). Highly recommend for special occasions, just skip the fish.

We chose this restaurant for our anniversary because we wanted an elevated dining experience --…read moresomething special, a little different, and worth splurging on. We were absolutely willing to pay for an amazing meal. Unfortunately, the meal was elevated mostly in price. We had a 6:30 reservation with a card on file to hold the table. When we arrived, the host couldn't find our reservation. We pulled up our OpenTable confirmation, and somehow it still couldn't be located. Thankfully, we could be seated because the restaurant was surprisingly empty for a Friday night in Nashville. Perhaps that should have been clue #1. Then the food arrived. And I genuinely thought there had been some kind of misunderstanding. The beet salad appeared to contain approximately one beet. One. Singular. It was also warm- I prefer a cold beet salad. Then came the $48 truffle mac and cheese. I cannot emphasize this enough: $48. This was not a $48 portion. It was barely a side portion. It was the kind of portion that makes you look around the table and ask, "Are we supposed to order four more of these?" It made me want to book a return flight to Italy. The steak was equally disappointing. Nothing was bad enough to be memorable, but nothing was good enough to justify the prices. And that might have been the biggest issue -- we were paying luxury-dining prices for food that simply wasn't giving luxury-dining experience. I was also genuinely shocked that the wine flight included a Riesling priced at $65. The restaurant did generously provide a complimentary dessert, which we really appreciated. And honestly, it was delicious -- probably because by that point we were emotionally prepared to pay $50 for a single bite. The crackers were also excellent. In fact, the crackers may have been the MVP of the evening but that was also a $ twenty something "snack". I understand that everything is made in-house, including the crackers, and I genuinely respect the craftsmanship involved in that. But I have to say: sometimes store-bought is okay. If the goal is for me to enjoy the cracker, I don't necessarily need to know that someone spent three days making flour do something extraordinary. The décor also felt very plain and didn't seem particularly aligned with the prices. We wanted an elevated anniversary experience and were more than happy to pay for one. We just wanted the food and atmosphere to make us feel like we were getting something special in return. The server was very attentive and courteous. When the crackers are the most memorable part of your $300+ anniversary dinner. I have to agree with the reviewer who said this was indeed a bad idea. :(

I walked by it a couple times oblivious to the magic inside, I am so glad I took the suggestion and finally walked in. First off it is a wine bar, and really thats it. Full license for liquor and beer, but they are focused on wine and they know their stuff. It was so nice to be served wine by someone in a tshirt and without the snobbiness of terrior, just a glass and company to enjoy it. On to the details: There is a menu, half just bites like olives but there is a solid burger toward the bottom, They have a patio out back (I heard, but well over ninety degrees even at night I took their word for it. The pool table in back was nice, but a couple glasses if wine in, I know my limits. There was a couple recod players and a great vinyl collection in the corner, but the soundtrack playing was great so I never needed to peruse the collection. Once the place filled up (and it did, apparently it doesn't need any signs for the ones in the know to find it) it dod get pretty warm, the A/C units barely kept up, but it was neevr unpleasant. Word is the back patio also has another building that may become a cocktail bar in the future and I can't wait for that...

One stall had a broken lock, while another was completely out of toilet paper. We attended a comedy show and waited approximately 15 minutes before being acknowledged by the bar staff. When I approached one bartender to order a glass of wine, I was told that because I was attending the comedy show, I should use the bar located in that area instead. I was then informed that if I wanted food, I would need to return to the other side of the venue to place that order. As a paying customer, I found this interaction unnecessarily dismissive and unhelpful. My destination within the establishment should not determine whether a staff member is willing to serve me. The service throughout the evening was disappointing. The bartenders appeared overwhelmed, unfriendly, and unwilling to provide basic customer service. While the venue itself has great potential, the lack of professionalism and customer care left a very negative impression. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I do not plan to return.
