Celebrating @pizzakaijusd 1-year anniversary feels extra special for me -- walking in takes me right back to my Junior Highschool days in Yokosuka. The Japanese décor, the Yoshoku vibes, the little nostalgic touches... it's like a cozy slice of home in San Diego. Cheers to Pizza Kaiju for a year of NY-style pies, wings that hit just right, amazing by Weekend brunches, and a space that blends Japanese soul with foodie magic. And celebrating it all with Chef Eric & Jenn makes it even sweeter. Find the fun at 1985 National Ave in Barrio Logan Here's to many more years of flavor, nostalgia, and Kaiju-sized joy

Complete pork apocalypse: a massive Aporkalypse slice loaded with pepperoni, sausage, and bacon, paired with the Wonton Don
Edrick G.

Stopped in for a slice and ended up going all in. Shoutout to Emily for the great service and a solid intro to the menu--super friendly and helpful without being pushy. The place itself has great ambience too: relaxed, lively, and an easy spot to hang out with a beer and some pizza. The Wonton Don is wild in the best way. Crispy pork wontons on top, sweet and savory sauce, and just enough green onion to balance it out. It sounds like a lot, but it works. The Aporkalypse definitely lives up to the name. Pepperoni, sausage, bacon--no shortcuts here. Classic foldable slice, chewy crust, and just the right amount of grease. One bite and you're locked in. Paired it with a cold beer and everything made sense. Not subtle food, but that's kind of the point. Instant favorite!

Matcha pop up

We originally came here for our favorite matcha pop up (Hey Midori) and was pleasantly surprised to see how cool the restaurant was. It was spacious and had such a cool vibe so we stuck around for some food. Everything was awesome and service was quick. Definitely going to make matcha x pizza kaiju a frequent stop in my weekends!

What a fun place! It caught our attention because we wanted pizza and saw their menu..Sisig Pizza!? We had to try it! The space is fun! We walked in and saw a counter, looked like a sushi counter to me, ( I recently found out they host events there, one being a coffee Omakase which im so excited tobtry!) To the left is the bar and tables for us to sit. There was a group of people sitting at the big table playing cards. We ordered the Sisig pizza, chicharrones and spicy edamame. The sawsawan that comes with the chicharrones 10 out of 10!! The star of the show is by far the pizza! So good! It stated just like sisig. If you are in the area, or not, please stop by. I am so excited to attend pop ups at Pizza Kaiju this year!

Food-good Service- weak Ambiance-cool This "Pizza joint" has other items than just pizza. For this visit I only tried the pizza which is showcase on a shoebox of a display case but it was very good with a nice crisp crust and tasty flavors. But it took over 20min to reheat 3 slices. The server passed us by at least 4x and never said anything about the pizza or to refill our drinks.(it wasn't a busy night) This place is very spacious with a cool look but doesn't really feel like a "pizza joint"

Mashed Potato Slice

Came in around 8 pm on a Wednesday and had no problem finding street parking. The space is really big inside, and I was surprised to see they even have a separate kids' play area in the building, which is a nice touch. You order at the counter. *Wednesdays are $1 wings (minimum of six), and they feature a different special wing each week. *Thursdays are burger night. I ordered the Soy Garlic wings and a slice of the Mashed Potato pizza. *Soy Garlic Wings: these were DELICIOUS. The wings are huge and super flavorful, and they come with ranch on the side. Definitely a solid wing special. *Mashed Potato Slice: was amazing and so unique. Big scoops of mashed potatoes on top with a crispy New York-style crust. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it totally worked. The employee behind the bar was really friendly and easy to talk to. They have TVs up so I watched the Winter Olympics while I ate and ended up chatting with a few people at the bar too. Everyone was very friendly. It took about 15 to 20 minutes for the food to come out. It would've been nice if the pizza came out first while I waited on the wings, but everything was fresh and worth it. Great prices, creative menu, and solid weekly specials. I'll definitely be back.

I was a big fan of theirs at Market on 8th, so I was really happy to see them open back up and now with an even bigger space in Barrio. The place itself is pretty spacious with lots of tables, booths and high chairs to sit at, although the place was pretty packed during my visit. Service were friendly and they seemed to keep things going around, but unfortunately this is where my visit went sideways. The menu was expanded from what I remembered, and they offer beer and other drinks now. I ended up placing an order of a slice of pizza and 6 wings after my BF ordered two slices. We ended up on the same ticket, which was cool, and he ended up getting his slices in about 10 mins or so. However, after that, my order never came while others around the restaurant were getting theirs. I thought maybe since the other groups had ordered full pizzas, that's what was causing the delay. After about 25-30 mins, my BF asked a passing server, while I ended up catching the cashier who rang me up, and after a couple more mins, my order finally came out. The food was good and freshly made, but by then the BF had finished his food and we were starting to run late for a show in downtown, so I had to eat a bit quickly. Overall, I'm glad they're back in town, and I might give them another shot if I'm in the area again, but I wish the communication had been clearer.

Dish pizza, half spicy sausage, half mentaiko

Asian inspired pizza? Enough said! My wife found this place on Yelp and I definitely wanted to try it out, since I could eat pizza every day. This place is located in Bario Logan, next to the 5 freeway, close to a Mexican supermarket, and next to a barber shop. They just moved here from another location, so it still looks like some parts of the restaurant are still being renovated. They have beer, pizza by the slice, and pizza made to order. Their pizza comes in deep dish style or hand tossed. They take your order at the counter and then give you a number to take to your table. The decor is that of a chill living room and bar with a few sofas and small tables. The staff were very friendly. We asked for some garlic sauce and that was a game changer! I highly recommend this. They have a lot of unique flavors as well as traditional ones. I love the pepperoni pan slice. It was crispy, savory, cheesy, and chewy. The sisig and mentaiko were excellent as well. Tons of flavor in each slice. At about $27 for a whole pizza, I'd definitely recommend this place, especially if you want something different from all the other pizza places in San Diego.

Pizza Kaiju is a Barrio Logan gem! The Korean-style pizza fusion is incredible--bold, unique, and totally delicious. We also tried the pastas and were equally impressed. The staff is super welcoming (you can tell it's family-run) and they have a solid selection of beer and wine. Saturday night is the move. They have a live DJ, which makes for a perfect night out. Definitely adding this to my regular rotation!

Highly recommend coming for good vibes and unique flavors! Lots of variety for beer. The pizzas are ALL tasty with surprisingly delicious combinations. The white garlic sauce that you can dip the pizza in is HIGHLY recommended. I recommend coming here for group hangouts as the interior can seat multiple parties ranging from tables for 2 to big tables of around 8-10. There is a reserved room that has some extra space for singing karaoke. There are tiny claw machines located in the middle of the restaurant. The bathrooms were clean and everything was tidy as multiple workers rounded at the tables to pick up any trash or empty plates/glasses. The service was quick and all employees were friendly. The far left of the restaurant is focused on the donuts which were my FAVORITE. The filling was sweet but not TOO sweet. It is a perfect balance in texture and explosion in the mouth. I had a piece of the butterscotch, vanilla, and coffee... DELICIOUS. The crunch of the sugar to the soft dough and flavor of the filling... *chefs kiss* This place is conveniently located in barrio logan close to Chicano park. The best part is for people who are not a fan of pizza, there are other things to eat. The chicken was INSANELY juicy. I have never tasted fried chicken that was so moist! I may be biased but I can always crave some sweet spaghetti as a Filipino-American. I am going to come back and think this is a great place to hangout prior or after a baseball game! Parking is fairly decent between the garage and street parking. I wish I lived closer to the area as this was place is such a vibe! The instagram is quite popular and I do suggest following to check out the collaboration events happening! @pizzakaijusd Please do not hesitate trying a variety of food out. You won't regret it!

This review is after 3 trips to Pizza Kaiju (admittedly because the first experience wasn't the best) because I wanted to see if things got better since we first went here really soon after their grand opening. The space is really big and open which is great for groups of all sizes. The pizza slice selections rotate daily (with some being there more often than others) so if there's a slice you see online that you want, you probably want to check their Instagram page to see if they posts the slices of the day; alternatively you can get any pizza (whole) made to order. Pizza Kaiju is worth checking out for their take on asian-inspired pizzas. Over the few trips my favorites are definitely the Wonton Don and the Bulgogi Supreme. But their poster child and the one slice everyone must get is the Wonton Don. The cream cheese, tomato sauce, wontons, chili sauce all work so well together and it's such a great combination on pizza. I've also gotten the Mentaiko Cream Pasta which was really tasty and a huge portion. Plus the Chicken Karaage is a really good starter. Outside of our first experience with the cashier (Hispanic lady who wasn't very welcoming and didn't seem to care to be there), every trip has been great. The first time, our food took a while to get ready and so the chef actually came out with an order of Curry Fries on the house which was a very nice gesture. And another time I came to get some of the Ultra Donuts and the cashier added a couple more to our order because she felt bad for her kid who was making loud noises in the kitchen (which really didn't bother us at all). Pizza Kaiju also hosts a lot of collaborations with other eateries and hosts these events which is nice to see. Between this and the hospitality we've seen, they are a great addition to the community and worth stopping for.

Cheese pizza and calabacita
Andrew G.

We came back again to try some slices after a failed attempt. This time I tried the calabacita and the cheese pizza. Both were good. I preferred the texture of the calabacita and the flavor of the cheese slice. It was a bit of a drag theat the soda machine wasn't really working. It was out of ice and some of the flavors were out of syrup.

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place. We came in on a Sunday evening and ordered takeout. To be honest, I reaaaally wanted to like this place! Giving them 3 stars solely based on taste and service. We walked in and there was no line so we were just taken aback by the long wait. To be fair, we ordered chicken karaage, 1/2 pepperoni 1/2 bulgogi square pizza, AND mentaiko pasta. I don't think I've tried mentaiko pasta before this experience so I had nothing to compare it to but it did have a strong, creamy fish taste. I was expecting it to be similar to uni pasta. The pizza, on the other hand, was good! It did come in a huge box - maybe a box twice as big as the actual size. When we opened the box, we were so surprised to see it filled only halfway. Would come back for more pizza and try their drinks. Maybe a round pizza or single slice next time. I absolutely loved the chill ambience of the place. It would have been ideal to sip on a beer or any of their cocktails but didn't expect to wait as long as we did. We definitely had more than enough time to grab a drink or two. I would love to give them another try and update this review to give them a higher ranking. Next time, we'll be staying to enjoy the food and drinks seated in.

The glass that I was served in had this egg like smell - that threw off my pallet a bit by the time I received my food. For food, I ordered the pizza munchkins. Which was basically just like a little round breadsticks with Parmesan cheese on top and on the side it came with spiced shakshuka sauce, poached egg and cilantro. The bread was very tasty. It was warm. You can tell that it was fresh. I felt like the sauce needed a bit more acid and salt. Especially the poached egg. I felt like it needed some salt. And I could tell that they had just poached the egg and they were keeping it in warm water because it was really firm. Texture wise the bread was tasty. I wasn't a fan of the egg or sauce. The ambience it seems like there's a lot of seating once you walk in. It was pretty empty when I got there, but by the time I received my food, it filled up pretty quickly. And there's even an area for families to dine in the back area where the coffee shop normally is. I wasn't that impressed but I'm gonna try and come through one of these days for the coffee and see if I have a better experience.
