Vegan slice and a deep dish
    Halle J.

Fast, friendly, & easy pickup! The vegan pizza surprised me, it had a lot of flavor and I liked the sauce on the deep dish too. Unfortunately can't remember the actual names

Stopped in for a slice and it was super tasty. The crust was crispy and thin. Doesnt have that NY chewiness but still really yummy. The one we chose had salami, dates, ricotta and honey. Great combo. The turnoff was cleanliness. There were several open tables that were really dirty. Not with trash, just sticky or wet. Had to wipe ours down ourselves. Didn't see anyone coming out to do that at all.

Not bad not bad. i ate it after bad pizza so it's hard to really think about how good this slice was. pepperoni was pretty good. buffalo chicken is not my preference but it was not bad. i wouldnt get the grandma slice either.

BLUF: amazingly tasty pizza with delicious fluffy crusts and fresh toppings. Menu doesn't allow for much customization (wanted classic Detroit toppings on a NY crust but could not do so). A bit on the pricier side, but will definitely consider again when ordering for the team. The gluten free crust was a huge hit with staff who have allergies. They raved about how light it was when they are used to ultra dense, tough options. Fair warning gluten free pizzas are smaller. The toppings on all were super fresh and tasty.

The best Detroit style pizza in town. The New York style is also very good, in my top 5 in San Diego. They always have a lot of vegan options and New York vegan house classic is my favorite (like I'm not even a vegan and I still get it good). Hot Sop and Chicago are my two top picks for Detroit style. They also have a variety of peppers and oil to top off with.

I first heard of this pizza because of the comic con activation with TMNT (IYKYK). I have tried it and I liked it but I didn't stop by the actual shop until December after the East Village Tree Lighting. My friend recommended it because they make some of the best Detroit style pizzas and San Diego. Let me tell you. They are not wrong. We ordered the Blippe and it was so worth it! Thick crust and crispy cheese with homemade pesto sauce. Super delish! Thanks to Mikey who was at the front, for making our experience a great one considering they were about to close the kitchen ! Thanks so much! Can't wait to go back. Ps. They make this awesome pickle pizza.

Came in around 1:45 PM on a Wednesday and there were a handful of people inside. It's a casual setup - you order at the counter and grab your pizza when it's called They offer New York-style and deep dish pizzas, and you can buy slices that vary in price. I ordered: * Pepperoni: Honestly, this was pretty bad. It was a little greasy, but the crust was super soggy. With a New York-style slice, especially one that thin, you expect a nice crisp on the bottom. This had none of that. I had much higher expectations. When I ordered, she asked if I wanted ranch or hot honey, and I went with her recommendation, hot honey, which was an extra $0.50. The extra charge was totally fine, businesses need to cover costs, but it would've been nice to know there was an upcharge beforehand. * Margherita: Somehow even worse. Again, very soggy crust, super greasy, and overwhelmingly cheesy. It just didn't taste like quality ingredients or well-executed pizza. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the interior is actually a cool spot with a chill vibe. No public restroom, but dogs are allowed, which is a big plus. I did ask for some pepperonis on the side, and she was kind enough to give me a handful in a cup free of charge, which I appreciated. Overall, the space is cool, and the staff had a nice moment of generosity, but the pizza just didn't deliver. Unfortunately, I don't see myself coming back.

I searched Reddit for vegan eats near Petco Park and someone recommended stopping by here before the game. I'm so glad I did! They have several vegan pizza options and I was thrilled. I went with the vegan pickle thick crust slice. I'm a sucker for ranch and this thing was covered in it. It was absolutely delicious. I can't wait to come back and try their house slice. The pepperoncinis looked amazing, and they had some great-looking vegan meat alternatives too. I really appreciated that they had a spot for us to sit, enjoy our food, sip a soda, and relax before heading to the stadium. The inside was spacious and they also had a patio for outdoor seating. Service was friendly and fast. We got two slices and a soda for just twelve dollars. I think we've found our new go-to pizza spot. Thank you for all the vegan options and for being so inclusive. You've got a new fan!

Couple slices and brewskies before Padres game. Grandma style pepperoni has lil something on crust that adds extra texture on bites. Definitely a two handed slice as it flops if try and pick up. House Classic Detroit style continues to be the best. Crispy edges with caramelized cheese, crisp bottom with airy center. Red sauce is heavy that tops sausage, pepperocinis, red eppers, onions, so I hope you like sauce. They also have Sugarkiln cookies available.

Came here to grab a slide after a moderate amount of drinking nearby. I honestly don't even know what I got. I think it had garlic and spinach and it was really good. The crust was fantastic with zero flop. I would try their pickle pizza next time if I am ever in the area again.

This pizza is some of the best I've had in San Diego. I stopped by here twice during comic-con. They have great options for all dietary restrictions, we got a gluten free and dairy free veggie pizza and it was fantastic. We also got another pizza that was regular crust and extra cheesy. Both were top notch. The staff here were cool and welcoming. The vibe of the store was neat too, it felt retro like an 80s pizza parlor. Definitely coming back the next time I'm in town!

Great pizzas with amazing prices and service! Ethan is the epitome of a multitasker!! Came in on a Saturday night and this place had a pretty good line, but it moved fast as Ethan is out there running the show. I enjoyed the options of Detroit, grandma, and New York style pizzas that this place offers and I was very surprised at the prices of the slices! The taste was epic and this has made my list as one of my favorite pizza joints in San Diego. There are plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor, only downside I'd say is parking because it's located in east village. I'll happily come back to enjoy the pizza with the happy hour, I believe it's $5 for draft beer which is an absolute steal!! Highly recommend you give them a try

Pizza Wasn't the Only Thing Getting Fired Up Outside…read more We weren't even customers here, but after what I saw outside this place I definitely won't be one in the future. We were standing on the sidewalk near the red seating area in front of Filippi's Pizza Grotto for about ten minutes finishing a smoke. I had recently experienced a flare-up of a chronic illness, which significantly affected my well-being. During this episode,I had felt the need to smoke as a way to manage the heightened stress and discomfort caused by my condition. Right as we finished and were about to leave, a police car pulled up (it honestly looked like the officer was just stopping by to grab lunch). That's when an older lady employee from the restaurant suddenly came outside and said, "Do you mind moving down? The smoke is going into my restaurant." Fair request. We immediately responded respectfully with "Sorry miss," and started walking away to avoid any issue. But instead of leaving it there, she kept escalating the situation while they were already leaving, repeating things like "This is a family business, have some respect!" -- which didn't really make sense considering we had already apologized and were doing exactly what she asked. What made the whole thing feel strange was the timing. We had been standing there for around ten minutes already. If the smoke was truly bothering the restaurant, why wait until the exact moment a police car pulled up to come outside and confront us? From the outside, it honestly looked like the presence of the police suddenly gave her the confidence to make a scene and try to draw attention to us even though we were already complying. It appears she wanted to get us into legal trouble with her making it a bigger scene in front of the police. Another thing that didn't sit right with me was that we were the only Hispanics standing in the area at the time and the only people she chose to confront. I'm not saying that was the intention, but from a bystander's perspective it definitely didn't look great. Also, I'm still confused by the "this is a family restaurant" comment. What exactly does that mean in this situation? Are people who smoke not allowed to eat there? Because we weren't even customers at the moment we were simply standing on a public sidewalk and immediately moved when asked. If someone respectfully complies with your request, there's really no reason to continue escalating the situation or trying to involve the police by drawing attention to it. If this is how people are treated outside the restaurant, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence about how customers are treated inside. It appears that if you're Hispanic or a smoker you should steer clear of this place. I wouldn't be surprised if she has ICE on speed dial.

I got the burrata pizza. This was my fault cause i was still expecting sauce but there was none. Which I kind of understand but for $19 I would have rather just got a burrata platter as like a dip. The dough was honestly amazing. Crust is very fluffy, closer to the center is extremely thin. Overall it was good and fresh but I wouldn't pay $19 for it again. Sister got the spicy salami. Again the dough was good. Sauce was good definitely a more savory red sauce. Salami was fs spicy, we love spice but this fs had a kick. Overall good I think it could have been great with a hot honey. Pizza is on the bigger side. There's only 4 slices but it's more like 8 regular slices. More than enough for one person. We both only had half and saved the rest for home. To wrap it up, the ambiance is good for a nice night out but the food is only ok for the price. Very fresh and good but I would rather spend less on a good pizza than more on a gourmet place. Would recommend for a nice date night or something like that.

Next, we got a glass of prosecco. I told the waiter that I only like wine that tastes much more sweet then bitter or strong and he made a perfect suggestion along with giving us a sampler of 3 different wines which was so generous. I got to try them all and pick the one I liked the most, but even the samples were a generous size. For main course I got one of the current options for the cheese wheel pasta they make in front of you in cacio e pepe and my husband got the formaggi pizza with truffle mushrooms. My husband absolutely loved his pizza and the crust was one of the best he's ever had. My pasta was fresh and had a ton of sauce and cream so they didn't skimp at all. I could tell easily that they use very high quality Parmesan because i'm a Parmesan connoisseur and could taste how potent it was. They let me have as much extra as I wanted on without limiting since I enjoy a lot on it which was also a plus in my book. Next time I would get a pasta that's a little lighter, because it was a more heavy dish and it tends to make me feel pretty full after which is totally a me thing, but they have so much on the menu to try that I'm sure I'll love whatever I get even more next time. Lastly, dessert. We got a regular tiramisu and it was absolutely amazing. They put a ton of cream which is exactly what I look for. It wasn't too espresso or cocoa strong and had a perfect ratio. The cream was so light and fluffy that we had to get another one to bring home and eat tomorrow night! I had seen a previous review on here about someone not liking the tiramisu here and it not meeting their expectations for a more upscale Italian place but I've been to quite a few authentic Italian gems and this one had tiramisu up there so I'd have to disagree and completely recommend! The service was impeccable. Every waiter was kind and prompt, constantly making sure we were taken care of and getting what we needed. The atmosphere was also a plus for us because we have a 1 year old baby and there was enough room where we weren't too cramped or crowded in, and it wasn't too loud or overstimulating. The place was very clean and taken care of as well as the bathrooms. All in all, I loved this place and I will be coming back. I would definitely recommend Monello for a nice little date night, and don't forget the tiramisu.
