This is a great restaurant in a great location! We had some family in town and decided try them because they are two blocks from our apartment, and we are glad we did. We ordered a couple of pizzas for the table and everything was fantastic. The woodfired pizza was different from most other places downtown, and you could taste the freshness of all the ingredients. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the ambience is exactly what you would want from downtown San Diego especially being across from Petco Park. The weight staff were also very friendly and knowledgeable and everything came out extremely quickly considering how busy they were. I definitely recommend trying them out, especially if you are going to a game or a concert at the park. read more

We live around the corner from this joint but haven't made it in yet, but today is the day! Tried to watch the Friars, but the manager fumbled around for a bit before giving up... no luck. Weird that the server was confused about the game day specials menu considering it was week 1 NFL, I guess they will work it out. Ordered a salad to start, the strawberry fennel salad. Underwhelmed and it was delivered after the pizza, after I reminded him.... dressing was heavy on mustard so it overpowered everything else. Also there was 1 sliced strawberry total on this salad. Pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom was the pie, and it was good! Could have used a bit more sauce, but it was tasty. Ambiance is industrial loading dock, service was uninformed and lost, and prices don't align with product. I loved Basic, and Far Corner just isn't as good so I cannot commit for an encore. Came a few times during Padres games. Vibes are always good. Service is always helpful, polite, and quick. Game day specials keep us coming back. They have a huge space super close to petco park. So if you're coming to watch the game on their multiple TVs or leaving the game early for a cheaper drink, they got you. Variety of food from pizzas, wings, starters, and salads. Also got a full bar. It's very easy to get comfortable here. We've seen groups of all sizes and some families with kids. It's a spot that is more chill than your usual sports bar, and still has great service and quality. read more

Far Corner is awesome! Whether with friends or just to watch a baseball game, this place has you covered. The pizza was outstanding. I ordered the Almost Too Far and it was delicious. The flavors complemented each other well and the crust was perfectly cooked and crispy. The cheese, basil, and honey were all a chef's kiss. I even had some leftovers to take home! The Aguachile was also surprisingly good! If you like a little spiciness, this dish will definitely have you covered. Far Corner is a great spot for pizza or a drink especially to watch a game, before or after going to a game or concert at Petco Park or honestly just anytime you are in east village. I used to be a big fan of Basic which was the predecessor in this spot. I loved the warehouse loft feel, one side being more restaurant style and the other more lounge/bar. I loved the casual fun atmosphere and of course the pizza. Good news is all of those things continued with the change! We did exchange New Haven style pizza for the NY-ish style pizza but the most important thing is their pizza is still good and really hits the spot. I recently have come here before games, as a stop in bar crawls, to watch the ISA World Cup match, and before concerts. Definitely one of our go-to's in the neighborhood. read more

Hiya B.U.M.S., We walked in, and the host told us to find a seat anywhere--a really great perk. We chose a spot near the bar and close to a large garage-door opening; the breeze coming through was fantastic while we sat on some very comfortable chairs. This place is family-friendly. The family next to us had several kids, and they all looked like they were having a great time. They also had a Cubs game on, which was awesome to keep me entertained--it's always nice to watch a team other than the home team on TV. For food, we ordered the crispy potatoes, which had a great crunch on the outside and a super soft inside that complemented the toppings perfectly. We also got an Italian sandwich that came with juicy banana peppers--I made sure to get one with every single bite. The sandwich had the right meat-to-bread ratio for me, though my wife felt there was a bit too much bread and ended up removing half of it before finishing. We wrapped up the meal with a sausage and pepperoni pizza, which I enjoyed a lot. The pepperoni was juicy (not burnt or rubbery), the sausage was full of flavor, and the crust came out just how I like it: thin, crispy, and easily foldable so you can hold it with one hand and bite right in. To drink, my wife had a JuneShine and I had a non-alcoholic Athletic IPA, which tasted just like a real IPA. Overall, the place was great because of the atmosphere. We always like to give credit where it's due: Jason, our server, noticed we hadn't been attended to right away when we sat down, immediately came over, and took care of us with high energy and excellent customer service. This place is amazing. The service is on point. Multiple people cover the area so they can make sure everyone gets the attention needed and food and drinks come out asap. Food was delicious. As someone that has been cooking for years. I couldn't understand why a glass would smell like egg. But then I remembered the bartenders were storing eggs in glass. The poached egg in my plate had a little to no odor. It was just completely bland and overly cooked. Not for me. Finally came back in to sit down at the restaurant and my honest review is that the pizza is great, the drinks are good, and price point is good, but the service here simply isn't. We came in at 8pm and immediately our server said the kitchen was closing so we had to put our order in, which is fine, so we asked what time they were closing and he said "I'm trying to get out of here within an hour so yeah it would be great for you to be quick". The restaurant closes at 11pm.... I just went through and read several reviews here that also share similar sentiments and the responses from the restaurant owner on every bad review have now put me off from this place. I hope they can work on their service and understand they replaced a very beloved pizza place in East Village, so yes the bar will be higher for them but Yelp reviews are here to help restaurants learn and grow and hear from the people, not to leave snarky responses when given criticism. read more

Becky and I were going to a party downtown on a Saturday late morning. We arrived early so Bex could help set up, that gave me about an hour to kill. I strolled up J street (from 14th), when I got to 10th, I saw that Far Corner was open, so I walked in. I was cheerfully greeted as I headed to the bar. I was the only patron at the time. Padres Fan Fest was in full swing so I'm sure business picked up later. Rachael (Rachel?) was my bartender. She was excellent. Super friendly, cool to chat with and efficient. And it never hurts when your bartender is everything a bartender should be and she's super-hot too. I did not try any food as I was being fed at the party. I did, however, peruse the menu. Their thing is pizza (like their predecessor Basic). Not just any pizza though, these pies sounded great. The Shrimp pizza is on my radar! If you're more of a pizza traditionalist, they've got you covered too. Also wings, salads, sandos and more. The Crunchy Potatoes sound awesome. I had three pints of Societe Light Lager then settled up with Rachel. It was only 15 bucks! $5 per pint, what a deal! Turns out it was happy hour all day (thanks Rach!). Not sure if it was just because of Fan Fest or not. We have Padres season tickets, Far East will certainly be a part of our pre-game rotation. read more

Far corner took over the former Basic Pizza location. Similar to basic pizza, they have a fairly limited menu of pizza, two salads, a calzone, or two side options. The space hasn't changed and has a large interior with bar, lounge, or table seating, as well as an outdoor deck. Service was good. We ordered the Ceasar salad to start and the Margherita pizza to share. The Ceasar salad was different in that it came with large pieces of romaine lettuce for you to cut and loaded with Parmesan cheese. The pizza is a thin crust style and large enough to share (with leftovers). I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Get ready to find your new favorite spot in East village! I came here about a week after opening to check it out as it's near my office, and i had occasionally visited Basic Pizza a few times, when they were in this building. I'm a lover of pizza, so I had high hopes for this new place, and fortunately they were met! After reviewing the menu and talking with our server Casey, we decided to go with the almost too far Pizza. They let us know that was one of their most popular sellers, and after eating it I can definitely see why. The crust was light and Airy on the inside and crispy on the outside just like I like it. The hot honey flavor they add is just enough to give it that little something extra, and make it unique. As we were eating we met the owner Max, who I can tell is very passionate about his pizza, and It also shows up in the taste and presentation. He explained to us how the pizza they make won't leave you with that heavy feeling you normally get after loading up on carbs, because of the way they do the fermentation process. They take days with their dough, and don't just roll it up and throw it in the oven. I'll admit, I was a little bit skeptical about this, and I even commented that I'd find out later today, but Lo and behold he was right. I did not feel that need to crash out after, like I normally would after loading up on Pizza. This fact alone makes me want to come back here more often. Luckily enough during our visit, we met their in-house photographer Kai, who was extremely nice, and offered us some of the bites he had been photographing. We tried the tri-tip steak bites, which had a nice smoky flavor and we're not chewy. We also tried their potatoes, which I appreciate are not fried. They come with a little bit of aioli on them, bits of bacon-like pork and some scallions. The only thing I felt they could have added, would be some drizzled butter, maybe something infused. The last thing we tried was the salad. While good, this one seemed like it was missing something to elevate it, and I'm not a huge fan of the type of apple they used. I do need to say i really liked the inside setup as well. It's kind of like getting two restaurants in one, the left side is more of the bar area you might hang out with your co-workers or friends, and the right side is set up more family-friendly like your local pizza Eatery. It's separated in the middle by a cozy spot with sofas and tables. They still have the patio dining just like Basic did. As far as cocktails they have a full range of options along with several draft beers that are a pretty good deal at $7. I'm not much of a beer drinker but I tried the mother earth Cali creamin, and I did really enjoy how smooth it was. I also had an espresso martini, which is typically my go-to drink and it was pretty solid here. There are several other drinks on my list to try that look amazing, including the Selma and The Perennial buck. Overall we really enjoyed everything we ate and this is definitely going to be our go to spot for Pizza. I was told they will be likely expanding the menu a bit, and I can't wait to see what they add. I'll be going back soon for the Calzone, as a friend of mine gave it rave reviews. Do yourself a favor and check this place out, I think you'll really enjoy it. A Solid Hangout Spot With Personality Far Corner turned out to be exactly the kind of place you hope to stumble into on a night out. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was relaxed and welcoming plenty of space, good lighting, and a layout that actually lets you talk without shouting. Hands down my favorite new pizza spot. Far Corner Pizza absolutely nails it. The bread alone is next level it somehow tastes like it's made with East Coast water (IYKYK) and like a hint of sea salt. I ordered the Margherita and it was incredibly flavorful, not bland at all like some places tend to be. The crust was perfection: crispy on the very thin outside, soft and airy on the inside and tasty, with that subtle sea salt coming through in every bite. I came here on a Sunday around 1:45 PM and had no trouble finding a seat. The space is big and well laid out, with a dining area on the right, high tops on the left, bar seating, and even sofas. TVs are everywhere, which made it easy to keep up with three football games and the Padres at the same time. The staff were great. Chandler took my order right away at the bar and had some solid recommendations. The tap list is excellent with fair prices. I ordered the Almost Too Far pizza, which was huge, sliced into eight pieces with a crisp crust. I ate four there and the rest reheated perfectly at home. The only downside is that they don't offer smaller portions of pizza. Not everyone wants to spend $30-$40 on a full pie when just grabbing a bite during a game. If they added single slices or smaller options, it'd be perfect. Otherwise, it's a fun, spacious spot with friendly service, plenty of TVs, and a great vibe for watching sports. Just left and will not be coming back, horrible customer service, and lack of accountability on a SLOW day. Came in around 2:50 on a Thursday to grab a bite before work. Food order was in by 3 for an order of wings.THIRTY minutes later my order of luke warm wings come out. I asked the bartender for a box given how long it had taken and needing to go to work to not eat in a rush. Bartender gave no apology, no offer to make it right, nothing. 6 people were sitting at the bar having drinks and about an another 8 at tables also just drinking. This place was not busy by any means to justify the wait. Not once during the wait did the bartender offer to check on the order to why it was taking so long. When the check comes, come to find out, the side of tiny ranch was charged at $3 and an extra side of sauce for $2 (or maybe vice a versa). When you ask a customer if they want ranch or Gorgonzola dip, why would you not disclose you're going to charge for the dip. Literally every place that sells wings includes the ranch, this is absurd. Would hate to see what this place is like during a "rush". Go to Tom's Watch Bar or Bubs a block away instead. read more

After a padres game this is definitely a popular spot to go to far a drink and food and I loved the old spot that was here so I was excited to check out what they did since it was taken over. They kept the same concept which is nice so we decided to go for a pizza. We were with the meat lovers which I loved because it wasn't overwhelming with a ton of different meats. It had pepperoni, sausage and guancille on it and it was pretty good! I will say it was a bit on the salty side but I enjoyed it a lot and the crust was perfect and I am not typically a crust person. We got some drinks on happy hour which was nice to see that they had a happy hour after a padres game. First timer here and this pizza was one of the best I've had! The crust was nice and soft just how I like it because I usually don't eat the crust on pizza unless it's soft and doughy still (just a personal preference). As far as the size of the pizza , it was more than enough for two people, although I can easily eat a whole pie by myself! So needless to say, I will be getting one to-go just for me next time. I keep giving this place more faith than it deserves. The bread sticks were stale as all hell but what's even worse is everyone's attitude here behind the bar. I'd say their attitudes are the equivalent of someone's spitting in your drink. It's sad because this used to be such a welcoming place to come after a Padres game and now after multiple tries i'd avoid this place at all costs. What a shame this place has come to since URBN closed. We came in to watch the Mexico game for the World Cup. Service was absolute trash and our server had a terrible attitude since the second we sat down. We requested her to cancel orders and get the check it was so bad. Once we did she started arguing with us that they were short staffed and weren't expecting to be so busy (it wasn't busy). As a former server, a little goes a long way and she could've warned us that there was going to be a delayed wait for food and drinks. A smile or just a little personality would have been appreciated but it's very apparent that most of the staff hate their job. Pizza was also super mid and nothing like URBN. I gave an extra star because the inside is a vibe but management should be appalled to have hired such staff. I know a lot of people had strong feelings when Basic closed, myself included. It had a loyal following and a great vibe. But let me say this: Far Corner is the perfect replacement. It keeps the same essential layout and industrial-chic atmosphere, but the product...way better! This is hands down the best pizza I've had in San Diego, and I've done the full tour (Luigi's, Prince Street, Bronx, Sisters, Massachusetts Mike's, etc). Nothing compares. The crust here is the closest I've found to a true NYC slice: crisp on the outside, light and chewy on the inside, and foldable without the toppings sliding off (shoutout to Basic lol). We went with the Almost Too Far: pepperoni, stracciatella, hot honey, basil, and shaved parmesan. Absolutely nailed it. I love that they add the basil after baking (fresh and fragrant, not charred). The flavors blended together magically with the sauce, and that crust is just on another level. I dont usually finish the crust, but this thing had me begging for more. Each pizza appears to be about 14" (equivalent to a "Large"). The options are pretty eclectic too, just check out the menu (blueberries??). They also do BYO which is always a plus. We also shared the Classic Caesar, which is served steak-style with whole romaine leaf filets. Super flavorful with what tasted like a hint of sage (?) in the dressing which is unique and added a brightness to it I didnt know I needed. Easily enough for two to share as an appetizer. Craft beers on draft, chill vibes, friendly staff, and sports on every TV. Def hitting this place up after every Padres game. If you're still mourning Basic--don't. read more
