Well looking for unique Springfield dining using my trusty Yelp app. We landed at the Pizza house. Not sure much has changed in this like gem in the last half century. We were greeting when we arrived. The smell is great and snacks you in the face when you enter the restaurant. The decor was very throw back but well maintained. The menu is simple and the pizza is prepared and served quickly. We ordered 2 pizzas and the toppings, taste and texture of the pizza was great. Love a thin flavorful pizza that is just the right valve of flavors with a savory crust. Give them a try. We will be back!!! read more

Delicious thin crust pizza! I came here to catch up with friends and they suggested this Springfield tradition. Since I love thin crust, I thoroughly enjoyed the pizza. I got the lunch special for one which includes a one topping 9" pizza with a drink. I had pepperoni and added on banana peppers for a small fee. The atmosphere is relaxed and nostalgic. They only offer pizza and salads so don't expect any extras. The server was very happy to be there and that says a lot about the place. If I'm in town again, I will definitely be back. read more

We prefer thin crust and when we came across this restaurant's reviews while visiting Springfield and that they specialize in thin crust, we decided to give them a try. We have yet to find a restaurant that gets thin " right "at home or in our travels. As soon as we were seated, our server asked if we knew what we wanted. We kind of chuckled when we saw the tiny menu with only 2 types of salad , pizza and drinks on the menu. We guessed she figured it wouldn't take long to decide. This is not your typical pizza restaurant with grinders, wings, and anti pasta salads . They cut to the chase and do what they do best. Thin crust pizza. The small salad is just that "very" small. The diced tomato on top was equivalent to maybe a half of tomato. If there are two people in your party, do yourselves a favor and get the shareable deluxe salad. When we saw one go by, it looked more palateable.. you get a Kens dressing packet , 50 extra for more than one. Not a fan of commercial brands except Newman's own at restaurant's because they give back to charity But this restaurant is bare minimum to keep overhead low. When you get the tiny snack size paper plate, you get concerned, the pizza size and slices will be tiny. But don't worry, you will be full after eating it. They cut into tiny square sizes. There are only two sized pizzas, a personal 9" and shareable 13". We got 3 toppings, pepperoni, sausage , and mushrooms. It comes our piping hot and the toppings evenly placed. Everything stays on the pie nicely. Very flavorful and thin , just the way we love it. Service was great. We got there at about 430 pm on Friday and by the time we left, every seat and booth was taken. Bare minimum menus do really work when a restaurant gets their specialty perfect. If you enjoy thin crust pizza, this is your place to try. Theres a reason they have been successful since 1958. read more

Still my family's go-to, and four generations of them have eaten here now going back to the 60's. I can't speak to the pizza before my time, but my sausage and mushroom pizza has been the exact same since the late 80's/early 90's. That is some seriously delicious consistency that keep me coming back for more. I love Pizza House! read more

Searched for pizza on Yelp and discovered this joint that's been around since 1958. If you've been around that long you must be doing something right. Cool funky vibe and decor throughout. Our server was pleasant and just chatty enough. Our pizza had some of the thinnest crust I've ever had with a super crispy edge. I really enjoyed it. read more

I had high expectations for this place. Pizza House is located in a trendy neighborhood and seems to be a hipster haven. The inside boasts a fun vintage vibe. However, the pizza wasn't amazing. Our pizzas were unappetizing and undercooked. We're not sure if this is because we ordered closer to closing or if this is the norm. On a positive note, they did have the whole thin crust thing figured out. We are still on the hunt for the perfect slice in Springfield. read more

I am VERY VERY upset with how we were treated tonight. We've enjoyed their pizza many times over the years, and it's my son's favorite restaurant. After arriving at 4:45 to get tables for my son's 11th birthday, the blonde woman was very rude to my husband and refused to push 2 tables to comfortably accommodate 8 people and seated us at a table only comfortable for 6. When a 9th person showed up, I was trying to get us a 2nd table even asking if we could rotate the table and push it over to a 2nd table so that it would still give the servers room to walk around. She declared that she had to walk away from us and stormed off. Rather than have half my family separated at another table 15 feet away, we decided to leave and go to Basilico next door (which was accommodating and delicious). I don't think I've ever left a negative review before, but her behavior was egregious. Just shameful how we were treated, and I don't feel like we were being unreasonable to be seated comfortably. I don't think I could ever go back to a restaurant and give someone like that the money we work hard for. read more

This was my first visit to Pizza House. My friend and I split a 13" pizza, 2 Fountain Drinks, and we each had a salad. I have to say, for a place that looks like a dive, the food was pretty good. Nothing fancy, just good pizza. I cannot wait to go back! The decor is quirky & unique. The Staff was friendly. I would recommend this place to everyone. We had heard of how great the pizza was here. We were the second people seated upon opening. Once seated we were asked what we wanted to order. Within 15 minutes the place was packed. She came back later again to ask what we wanted but we had to remind her we already ordered. As we waited everyone seated after us had already received their food. The manager didn't apologize and said said that it was just busy. When it finally came to the table it was half eaten (picture above). It didn't even phase the waitress that the food wasn't there. We were hungry after waiting an hour so we just ate around it. When we went to pay she did not honor the comp pizza promised. She only took off $7 from the price of the pizza. After this experience I would not recommend eating here. Nobody seems to care about the mishaps made when the restaurant is busy. read more

Pizza House is more than worth the hype. We came in after seeing the reviews online excited to have some pizza that we figured might be a tad overrated but still very good. Well it is FAR from overrated. Some of the best pizza I've had and a super unique style. Square cut super thin crust and good god it is amazing! We ordered two pies and almost ate all of both on top of that: the staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere is awesome! Can't wait to try it again next time we're in town! read more

If you like thin, homemade crust, this is the place for you. Meat lovers was just right and well worth the money. Had a side salad as an appetizer and was pleasantly surprised to enjoy fresh mozzarella on the salad. Staff was friendly, prices were very reasonable. I grew up in Springfield Missouri and one of the best things about growing up in that little town was The Pizza House. I used to go to this place when it was located at the corner of Glenstone and Bennet and I would ride my bike there at least a couple of days a week with my friends to have their amazing this Pizza with its perfect crust. When I moved away to Los Angeles, CA. in 1980, I missed the place and would always stop in when I visited home. Now that they moved to their new and much bigger location, I bring my kids there when we visit and still believe it's the best Pizza ever. The first time I brought my kids there and said it was the best Pizza ever, I was worried that they would think it's just Pizza, but after having it, they too feel it's the best and talk about it from CA. how they wish that there were a Pizza House in CA. I'm sitting in the Pizza House right now while visiting and I'm ordering two pizzas....one to eat now and since I'm driving, one to take back to CA. to my Family. I'm a lifelong Pizza House lover. One of the best places to get pizza in Springfield! The pizza here is thin, cracker crust that gets that delightful, delicious burnt at some parts that just drives my tastebuds mad! I am partial to the pepperoni but the deluxe and meat lovers are also some of our go-to favorites! This place has a great location on Commercial Street. They have a nicely sized dining area and they now serve beer and wine with the pizza. You cannot best their lunch specials and if you are a pizza lover, coming here is a great choice. Ordered what was supposed to be a pizza but instead i got this mess. It was cold and not very good. I mean other than this place who cuts their pizza in a thousand little squares? And why would you? So between the time of pickup and delivery it all went south. I get it its not always the restaurants fault but it's their food they need to take a little more pride in what they are doing. When you first walk in the door of this Commercial Street staple you really can't help but be a bit charmed. The atmosphere takes you back in time and luckily, so do the prices. My lady friend and I had the "lunch special for two", enjoyed our time in the restaurant, walked out full to the brim, and only paid $25 with the tip! The little salad wasn't anything to write home about, and I definitely would recommend getting it with cheese added. I was in Army Uniform and I received many thank-you's - speaks volume of the community. I travel a lot, and there are pockets where folks are not friendly to Military. Great pizza, great oldies music... I will be back 30 minutes later! Meal was paid for by someone that wanted no thanks :-) I am not happy my meal was paid for but because I represent all Soldiers, and it was his way of saying thank-you to all of us. The Pizza House is one of my dad's favorites when he comes into Springfield to meet with the family. It is located on Commercial Street which thanks to some political moves has had an opportunity to improve vastly. So the location has gotten better and the restaurant didn't even have to move! The menu is basic, pizzas and salads more the less but it is also perfect in its simplicity. A standard pizza with one topping will be more satisfying than any specialty pizza for a chain pizza store. The salads are similar, a presentation that leaves you wanting but a taste that is nothing short of perfection. The only downsides to the Pizza House is it has some trouble accommodating guests at busy times and rather hard to sit a large party of 6 or more. Additionally, I highly recommend you ask for your pizza cooked a little extra. Standard cooking misses the mark on that nice crunch. A few extra minutes really makes all the difference. Staff is a little overwhelmed on the service side as well, I had to get up and get my own drink refills on several occasions. Overall, great place for a date. Let me be clear: If you gave this place less than 5 stars you are an idiot! This is hands down the best pizza on the planet. There are excellent pizzas all over the world, but at the tip top of all of them is Pizza House. People that don't agree are simply wrong and have no taste buds or their synapses are mis-firing. My parents took me here as a baby, and I still go every time I come back to Springfield. The only thing that has changed here is the staff (and one unfortunate forced location change); it has been consistently superb for over half a century. I have had pizza all over the U.S. I like deep dish pizzas, thin crusts, medium crusts, Chicago-style, NY style, etc. but if you have to pick an overall favorite the Pizza House pizzas win out over all of them. They cook their thin, slightly charred crusts, perfectly. The toppings are placed with loving perfection and with expert portioning so that each bite is Nirvana. Yes, they have a simple menu, because they focus on quality not cookie cutter slop aimed at the masses. They have recently added beer, which is a nice extra touch. I love the ambiance and nostalgia of the place. The staff here is super great and most are beyond friendly. The people that make the pizzas are artisans, not just cooks. My death bed request will be a simple whispered plea, "bring me Pizza House?" before my lights go out. read more
