OMG! We stopped in for supper on a Saturday night and were greeted at the door with a friendly hello and a smile. It wasn't busy at the time (around 8:15pm). We were seated immediately and the waitress was at our table getting our drink orders right away. We couldn't help but notice the fun, retro decor - so may cool things to see. We had a nice conversation with our waitress and our drinks were served right away. She got our pizza order and by 8:40 our pizza was on the table piping hot and ready to eat. This could be some of the best pizza we have ever eaten. It is a thin crust with fresh toppings and cheese. It wasn't long before the restaurant was almost full, but the great service never stopped. As always when we go to Springfield to visit family, we go to Pizza House first thing . It may be tradition, but it also gives me a fix that I crave when gone. Acquired taste, maybe, but I have and it won't go away. It's like going to a place to eat that has something on the menu that you get every time, and it happens to be a thin crust pizza. Before I give my review let me share with you my bona fides as they pertain to pizza. I recently spent 6 months (from September 2014 thru February 2015) in mid NJ. I probably made pizza my meal of choice 4 nights out of the week. I would try pizza parlors far and wide - eventually settling on a pizza parlor in Trenton, NJ as perhaps the best pizza I have ever eaten. That restaurant is called DeLorenzo's and it was a 60 mile round-trip from my hotel to that restaurant. But once you have a taste of heaven it's hard to accept anything lesser. Ok with that being said, I currently find myself in NW Arkansas. I wanted pizza and there was nothing in this vicinity that appealed to me (Little Caesars etc). I decided to cast a wider net and went to Yelp and saw the Pizza House, Springfield and its high rating. Check this out...I drove 130 miles one-way to try this pizza...this is how much I love great pizza! The restaurant is in an older part of town (usually a good sign). The menu said the place was founded in 1958 (another good sign). It definitely has an older, authentic feel. The stars seem to be lining up right? I ordered the 13" with pepperoni, mushrooms and bacon. Before it came out of the oven I asked the girl behind the counter if she could have her pizza maker cut the pizza normal style (triangle shaped pieces vs the little square cuts)...her reply "I'm sorry we cannot do that my manager won't allow it"...huh? I'm paying for this product and you're telling me you cannot cut it the way I am asking? Now DeLorenzos in NJ has a funky cut too but the pieces are not tiny square shaped ones that make you feel like you are eating hors d'oeuvres. Ok...go with the flow...maybe the pizza is so good I can overlook this. The pizza came out and looked good...thin crust with a nice char. However it was just "meh". The outside pieces were dry and crunchy and to be perfectly honest the thin crust offered by Domino's is actually better than this pie. The thin crust did not really do well with the grease from the pepperoni and so the center of the pizza was somewhat mushy. If I lived in Springfield and was in the area and hungry I might go back. But I would never purposely drive out of my way for this pizza. Not terrible but not a pie I could rave about to others. Perhaps my time in Jersey spoiled me... read more

Wow. Should I start with the incredibly rude manager that repeatedly cut me off when I called to explain that I believed I had been over charged? Or do I start with the fact that I was in fact charged for two extra toppings? Or that the large four topping pizza I ordered had slices with NO toppings on them. I called and left a voicemail the next day requesting a call back (as they were closed the next day) and never got one. When I called back the second time, the manager had the gall to ask why I was calling about a pizza I had ordered three days before. (Um... you were closed two of those days. and... I was expecting a call back since I had left a voicemail requesting one). I ended up hanging up on the guy because he was so rude and clearly was not interested in having a satisfied customer. Exactly what I look for from Yelp when traveling! A local spot that does everything right. Had the Lunch for 2 for $15. A 13" pepperoni pizza, 2 small salads and 2 sweet teas. The pizza is exceptional - very thin crust. Perfectly cooked and bursting with all the right flavors. Salad was small, but the fresh cheese made it very tasty. Local Ott's dressing was great as well. Oh what can I say... Pizza House how I love thee. We moved to the Springfield area in 2005 and a neighbor told us about Pizza House. Since our first thin and crispy "Deluxe with Bacon" we have not strayed far. We followed them as they changed locations and the Commercial street restaurant has that urban city feel to it with the exposed bricks and old black and white photos. My kids request Pizza House for their birthdays and we go there to celebrate any old occasion with friends and family. Do not miss the side salad with cheese and poppyseed dressing, also love the breakfast bacon, pineapple, and jalapeño pizza. My only complaints are that our crust was borderline burnt in a few places and the pie lacked that hard-to-quantofy "wow" factor you get when you order from an authentic Italian pizzeria. Chose Pizza House for lunch while driving thru the area based on the online rating. It did not disappoint. As reported the wonderful smell of pizza hits you as you approach the restaurant. It was busy but we were lucky to get the last booth available. The pizza was great and the kids gobbled it down and nothing was left over. The ice tea was really good too. The service was good and the pizza came fairly quickly for a busy as they were. The prices were a little high but we were happy to support a local business. read more

My daughter and her friends went this past weekend and the server was extremely rude to them- in fact, accused them of lying. The kids has spent all morning volunteering with a group who were painting many of the buildings on Commercial Street. For their time, they were given vouchers for a free meal. One friend had to leave due to a time constraint, but left her voucher there for the group to use- in fact, she stated "use it to get pizza to feed someone less fortunate". The server never explained the vouchers and there were no rules given when they were handed out. When the girls ordered the waitress snatched up the extra voucher and told them she wasn't falling for that. Falling for what? Redeeming a voucher they rightfully earned? The server never came back to the table and refused to even acknowledge the group after that. Very disappointing to hear a group of hard-working kids were treated that way after they spent their free time helping to improve the look of Commercial Street. They didn't steal the voucher, they earned it. Seems like the server needs to lighten up a little. Try explaining things instead of treating them that way. We've always enjoyed going there, but won't be going again, as this is just the last straw. The last few times I have been the service has been lacking to say the least. Lots of other great pizza places in town to eat who won't treat you that way. read more

It took a long time to get our pizza, then one of our pizzas was not put it, and when we decided to cancel it because we were ready to leave, they acted like it was our fault and became very rude to us for canceling the pizza. I remember this place from it's earliest days on Glenstone, but somehow had never been through the doors. However, a friend wanted me to meet him there, so after more than 50 years I finally went to Springfield's oldest pizza joint. The buildings are old (very) high ceilinged relics from the days when the Frisco railroad was the core around which Commercial St. was built. Kitchy, historic, casual, colorful. Most of the seating is in booths, but there are a few tables and chairs. Floors, ceilings, and walls are all hard surfaces so with even a few customers the background noise becomes very high. The evening I was there had was moderately busy. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. The service seemed competent and there was sufficient staff. Sadly, this was easily the worst pizza I have had in at least 25 years - and that is all they serve. Many of the reviews emphasize how their pizza is the same as it was years ago. I think that is probably true: greasy, tasteless toppings on thin crusts burnt around the edges without being crispy in the center - just the way I remember pizza at any number of chains 40 years ago. If you pine for pizza the way it was back in the day, Pizza House will bring back the memories for you. Personally, I'd just as soon forget. read more

We were in town for a convention and were looking for a place to eat. Found it through Yelp and reviews seemed good so we tried it. Tonight we were passing through town with friends and I recommended Pizza House. We arrived around 5:30 before the dinner rush, and seated ourselves as the sign at the door stated. We finally were waited on after 15 mins we ordered salads and 2 large specialty pizzas. Salads were a none issue. The first pizza was delivered to our table by a different waitress and we waited to start eating for approximately 5 mins before we were told that the other pizzas wasn't even ordered and they would get it started. We had small children so they ate. We waited on the other pizza over 20 mins. I had to ask the manager where the pizza was before anything was done. We were never offered an apology or discount. The waitress was even standing by the cashier when we paid. For the money don't waste your time, pizza is good but not worth the hassle. read more
