This was my absolute favorite pizza place in St Louis a few years ago. It had a change of ownership, I believe, and has definitely lost a step since then. Wow, the vegan pepperoni is amazing. I was in St. Louis for a weekend and needed a pizza Friday. After a lot of Yelp searching still couldn't figure out who offered slices. Then I came across Pizza Head which was really close to my AirBnB and offered vegan options, and not just a bunch of vegetables atop dough vegan option. I ordered a vegan pepperoni slice and a white pizza slice. Plus I got a Stag as part of the beer and pizza deal (which the counter person should remind you about when you order). Loved, loved, loved the vegan pepperoni. Delicious, a generous serving, meaty and not in a tastes like meat way but still really satisfying. The crust was nice and chewy and the tomato sauce had a tang of sweetness. It made me super happy. White pizza was also good. I loved it so much, that came back again for a pepperoni slice two days later. read more

Small outdoor seating area with picnic benches on the side of the building lacked any garbage cans for trash and the pizza boxes are too large to fit inside the garbage cans on the street. I first discovered Pizza Head while walking down Grand Blvd beside people carrying insanely large pizza boxes as if they were their most coveted possessions. Intrigued, I tried a slice from their takeout window, intending to save some for my bf, but nope, it was so good that I wolfed it down in a few minutes. Sorry, not sorry, bf. As a consolation prize for my bf, I gleefully returned home with my own pizza box one day. I chose the white pie with spinach and artichoke. It was SOO good. The crust is out of this world. It even won over my bf who scoffs at anything without meat. Another day, feeling ever so daring, I picked up a slice of their pepperoni and brought it home and told my bf it was just a regular pepperoni slice. Tricked! He couldn't tell that it was vegetarian! There honestly isn't anything to dislike about Pizza Head other than it'll test the limits of your self-restraint, and you'll probably lose. Pizza Head 1, You 0. Nutshell: Very tasty pizza, vegan/vegetarian friendly, great prices. Highly recommend. We were still in the thick of the pandemic and I wanted to try a different pizza joint, so I headed online and placed an order. I went with the build your own with dairy cheese, add pepperoni. They quoted about 30 minutes for pick up. At this time, the shop was shut to dine in and only had a window for pickup orders. I hate Grand, especially on a Friday night...pandemic or not...somethings are consistent. I parked a two blocks down to avoid people. The girl manning the counter was prompt and nice. The pizza barely fit through the window! It literally took up the majority of my trunk. This is the moment when I realized a mistake may have been made since this whole thing was for me. A wonderful mistake. The whole way home the car smelled amazing. When I finally got a bite, I died. The plant based pepperoni was indistinguishable from regular pepperoni. The sauce and toppings were in perfect proportion. The bake was spot on. My total came to about $25 with tax. I will 100% be back and will try a few of their other slices. read more

I had never been to Pizza Head pre-pandemic. My friend read the bit in the Post about Pizza Head reopening and selling bagels. We both LOVE bagels and order them from all over the country to compare and contrast the dough, skin, chew, and ratio of toppings. Yes, it's a compulsion. On the morning of Tuesday, 4/14, I placed an online order for a cheese pizza and 3 groups of 6 bagels. The bagels went to 3 different places. We all liked them a lot. My Aunt & Uncle thought they were a dead ringer for NY Bagels but they don't get out much. The above mentioned friend and I thought the bagel technique is great but they just don't have that blistery skin you want to see. Also, we'd prefer white flour instead of whole wheat. We all agreed we will be back for more bagels. The pizza was good too. It was pretty typical of a NY slice. There were eight large slices. The crust is thick and crisp along the edge but soft, thin, and fold-able beneath the cheese. The only thing that was lacking for me is no pepperoni! We'll be back for more pizza & bagels! read more

I've had others that claim to be but the crust was too thick and greasy. This crust was the perfect crispy chewy without falling apart. I was also particularly disturbed by the inconsistency of the size of their slices. In our group of 4, it was quite obvious that some had larger slices than others. In the end, it's a decent slice whose quality is comparable to NYC's dollar slice joints, meaning: "hey it's not the best slice in town but it'll feed you and you'll leave satisfied with some change in your pocket." read more

Pizza head was soooo good y'all. So first off I have never heard of it and then I started working for this cool company and they always supported really cool businesses with amazing food. So I found out Pizza Head and started eating there and it's so good y'all like the picture doesn't do any justice it's like so good make you want to eat the entire pizza by yourself lol. Literally. But seriously I got the pepperoni kind with the works well done and I had with ranch dressed and a soda it was so good. Much needed lunch during the day or the weekend. It was during when C-19 first spread so they were still doing only to go orders only but it was still really good because I had visited here prior to this and enjoyed the in-house experience too. Even when I warmed it up the next day for left overs it was still fresh like it doesn't get any better than that y'all ? Punk Rock Pizza! I have a dilemma. For about a month now, I have been vegan. I do allow myself a cheat meal once or twice a week, but sometime it can be pretty tough. Simply, I miss cheese, and with cheese comes pizza. However, Pizza Head offers a great solution to my problem. Pizza Head has both vegetarian and vegan options. They have pepperoni and sausage, but it's vegan! Honestly, I can barely tell the difference with the pepperoni, but I haven't tried the sausage. The vegan cheese is made out of cashews, which is awesome! I almost prefer it over the regular cheese slices. Some of my friends beat me to PH a few weeks ago, and they complained about the price of the za. However, I find the prices to be fairly comparable to other pie places. And no one should complain about the size. These pizzas are huge! A 20-inch pie starts at $18, and the vegan starts at $22. Once you add multiple toppings, it can get a little pricey, but I still think that PH is fairly inexpensive. The best deal is the two slice combo. You have your choice of cheese, pepperoni, or vegan, and you can get a soft drink or beer with your slices! There's about a two dollar different between combos, as much as $8.95 or as little as $6.95. Also, you can order a 20-inch cheese with four Stags for $24.95. That, my friends, is pretty damn sweet. PH has the feel of a dive bar, and it's so punk rock! The bathroom has old school fliers of great punk bands. The jukebox is an old school CD one and might have the best music mix in town. I feel right at home. They also have cheap craft beer options. You can order a 4 Hands City Wide or UCBC Urban Underdog for four bucks each. They also have Odell IPA on tap for four. YALL. You must go here! First off, I absolutely love the vibe here. It's dark. It's punk. It has great food and drinks. The simple menu with various toppings makes for a quick decision but don't think it'll be short on flavor. I grabbed 2 vegan slices that were incredible! First off, HUGE. Secondly, took a whopping 3 minutes for me to get my pizza!!!! SO delicious and full of flavor. So thankful this place is fully vegetarian 1) because you can get meat at literally every other restaurant so this is unique 2) as someone who doesn't eat meat, I don't run the risk of cross contamination or biting into an unwanted sausage piece. Real talk. I gave up dairy 2 years ago. Thus I thought that meant goodbye to pizza . Sure I've tried other vegan pizzas or I'm the weirdo who says "veggie pizza hold the cheese please. ". After a few months of this, i gave it up altogether because it was never good . Until the day I walked in pizza head. When i tell you that vegan pepperoni pizza will give you life, I'm so serious. I got two slices and a drink to go . It was like 12 bucks . It is perfectly seasoned. The sauce is sublime and the crust as that chew we know only gluten can do . ( i love you gluten even though you don't love me!) It is New York style so you can fold and stuff your face while driving off into the sunset with your beautiful new love for pizza . After going to Pizzeoli multiple times and having a great pizza, I was excited to try Pizza Head from the same owner. We decided to use Postmates and when the pizza and salad arrived, we were beyond disappointed. I usually don't speak badly about a restaurant cause I know how hard these restauranteurs and chefs work, but I have to speak up on this one. The salad looked like something they just tossed together. Nothing unique or special about it. Honestly, my girlfriend said that it looks like they just tossed the leftovers from pizza supplies into a styrofoam box. The pizza was the white sauce with vegan sausage, artichokes and mushrooms. The mushrooms seem like they came right from a can, which was a major disappointment. The sauce was completely underwhelming. At $50 bucks plus for all of this, to say I was disappointed is an understatement. I will continue supporting Pizzeoli but I won't be trying Pizza Head, again. read more

Nice lil shack! The prices were inexpensive. Which was shocking considering the area. This area reminded me of Chicago's Bucktown area. They had pizza by the slice & whole by the pie. This is my family's favorite pizza joint. The big slices make you feel like you are in the Big Apple, and if you get a whole pie, you'll have lunch and dinner for days. Our family includes a vegan, vegetarian, and self-described carnivore thankfully, we can get pizza to satisfy the whole crew. Their vegan pizza is the best we've found in STL! Their Corona policies make us feel safe to order and pick up is easy. No costumers are able to come inside and we are just fine with that. In pre-corona times, we enjoyed the dark interior and rock music vibes. They have great slice/beer specials too, so make sure to keep it on your list once this elongated face-mask season is over. Did not like it enough to go back. For reference Whole Foods pizza is New york style and is incredible. The dough was flavorless, the topping stingy, the slice meager and the crust was flat. How and the fuck do you eat pizza like this? I had this pizza once before and thought it was really good. I eat vegan and don't care for the fake cheese that usually comes on pizzas. This cheese is a really good cashew cheese. I recently ordered and got a pizza but when I got home the pizza was a dairy cheese. I was very bummed. My wife called in to let them know and they refunded the pizza. Later I received a call from the owner who seemed surprised that this kind of mistake was made. He offered to make it right with a gift card and apologized. I love pizza, but my recent conversion to a primarily vegan diet has occasionally been a challenge. There aren't many vegan pizza options in St. Louis, but I've found Pizza Head to be one of the best. It's no substitute for a good ole slice of New York style, but it does satisfy my craving. They sell by the slice or as a whole, but it only takes one or two of the large slices to fill me. The vegan cheese slice is covered with a thick orange-ish paste that must be some combination of sauce and vegan cashew cheese. If you prefer real cheese, they do have mozzarella options available, and vegan meat toppings. I foresee myself becoming a regular here. read more

Look, I get it, vegetarians and vegans are people too. Every time someone says a vegan/vegetarian version of something "tastes just like the real thing" what that means is their memory has degraded and they don't remember what the real thing tasted like. We went to Pizza Head as part of a lab outing. We ordered a pizza with normal cheese and lots of vegetables, one with fake sausage and normal cheese, and a margherita with vegan cheese. They were . . . interesting. I mean It was edible, but it just didn't compare to normal pizza. If you have dietary restrictions feel free to visit Pizza Head and keep them in business. If you don't have any dietary restrictions, go somewhere else. Black Thorn is just a couple blocks away. It also has a nice divey feel, has better pizza, and has a better bar selection. read more

This is the perfect late-night spot if you're craving a slice (or two) of pizza! Interior/establishment - The atmosphere of the place is kind of divey. The moment you walk in you're greeted with dim lighting and an alternative / punk-rock playlist playing. There's an appropriate amount of seating for the place, which isn't terribly big, but each time I've gone grabbing a table was never an issue. Service - nothing much to say, honestly. People who work there are nice and I've never had a bad experience, nor had I had a terrible one. Food - don't expect this place to be the best pizza you've ever had. It's still a lot better than your fast food pizza chains, though, that's for sure. They have this deal where you can get two slices of pizza and a beer or soda for a discounted price and it's always worth it. The crust is perfect for me, personally, where it's not soft but it's also not super crunchy. I've ordered the vegan pepperoni once on accident, but I didn't really realize it was vegan until I was halfway through my slice. The cheese is my general go-to now because of that. Overall there's a well-balanced sauce/cheese/topping ratio happening on the slice, and at a really cheap price for a late night bite I always recommend it to my friends! read more

A pretty simple to go order for me, but well executed and tasty quality. I stopped in to this funky spot, and kind of wished I had time to enjoy the atmosphere. But I didn't, so I simply ordered the two pepperoni pizza slice and a soft drink special. The pepperoni is vegetarian, but my carnivore self wasn't disappointed. While it's not quite the same as meat pepperoni, the consistency it right, and the flavor is meaty and spicy. The pizza itself has a thin and chewy consistency with a nice base of red sauce and cheese that hold tight. This is good, because those New York style slices need to hold up, which they do. The special comes with a soft drink, or a beer for a dollar more. It was a work day lunch, and I went with the soft drink. I didn't want sugar, nor caffeine. But I was pleased to see a can of Perrier was an option - so that's what I grabbed. read more

Pizza Head is doing unique things with Pizza in St. Louis. They are vegetarian/vegan and they offer pizza by the slice all day! I'm not a huge fan of meat alternatives I would generally just go meatless in that case but I tried the pepperoni and it wasn't too bad just not my preference. The location is really laid back and also serves cheap beer which who doesn't love a slice and a cheap beer? I really like what they are doing on South Grand and they deliver a good product I'm just not vegetarian so it's a personal preference thing for me. But will definitely stop in again sometime for a quick lunch when I'm in the area! read more
