We ended up getting the largest pie you could buy with pepperoni on one side for him and pepperoni and pineapple with extra sauce for me. Don't judge me. Lol The pizza was absolutely delicious and on the side there was red pepper, oregano, Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder. I have the latter three and let me tell you that combination added so much good flavor to the already delicious pizza. From the crust to the cheese to the toppings; every bite left you wanting another. The ambience of the restaurant was rather pleasant and I appreciated how many open tables there were. There was an outside patio with some old-school arcade games and made for good environment for people wanting to get away after a solid day of work and enjoy some great pizza. We got a large pizza with half of it being a deluxe pizza and the other half a Hawaiian pizza. The pizza took hardly any time at all to come out. It was large and cut into some massive slices. Fold that slice in half like any good New York style pizza and enjoy. Such a great pizza. The pizza dough isn't baked until the bottom is crispy like a cracker but still soft and foldable. My favorite is the Nutella pizza--I always get it because you really don't find this dessert pizza everywhere, and it's so good! The service is okay--not amazing, but not bad either. The space is also pretty tight. I actually prefer sitting outside, especially in the summer, because it feels more comfortable and less stuffy than sitting inside. It wasn't overly cornmealish like some of these "authentic" Chicago pizza places. I grew up out here in the west, so I'm used to a more flaky light crust. My first Deep Dish Chicago pizza was Zachary's in Berkeley in the Bay Area. This Costa Mesa location is located just south of the 405 at Harbor Blvd. Go to Baker Street and turn left and it's right there. Easy Parking. One thing you gotta know about the deep dish pizzas, they take longer to cook cause they're just so big and need more cooking time, like maybe 35-40 minutes, depending on how busy the kitchen is. We get a classic combo pizza and have some drinks while we wait. It arrives and oh boy does that look good. Dishing it out takes a little practice, but we're good at that now! Everybody loves the flavor and crust. This isn't the cheapest pizza round, but well worth the price and wait. You want cheap go to Straw Hat or something like that.
