If I can give this restaurant zero stars, I would after many years of coming here, the quality of the food as fallen severely. I ordering a chicken avocado salad 3-5 times a week now I wouldn't even spend my last here. It seems like management doesn't even care about the quality of food they're putting out. I do not recommend you take out or order delivery. The pasta is overrated, the appetizers disgusting, the pizza is mediocre and the salad is just brown old hard day old chicken. There's a continuous problem with the food and no one's doing anything about it so if you don't wanna get food poison, don't come here. read more

Coming here for dinner for the first time felt like entering a somewhat alternate universe. A guy went around to each table and happily grunted and muttered some words to each table, but neither of us could identify a language in his words. A man outside was hiding behind a post, taking photos of a young couple at another table when they weren't looking. Something felt off here, but perhaps it was just the night. But even so, we had a good dinner. We got the lemon and roasted chicken thin crust pizza. It tasted okay, but the ingredients tasted of a somewhat lower quality (perhaps the lemons weren't fresh lemons?). I salute them for the creative pizza! I was not into the crust - tasted a lot of baking soda and lots of sugar; it was almost like a cookie. But, my husband really liked it! So I would give a 3.5 overall for the food, and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt (a 4) until I try something else. The drinks were a heavy pour, it took me a while to get through my martini! I'd be curious to try this place again, but don't have particularly high hopes. Hope it is a bit less spooky next time! read more

HORRIBLE horrible horrible. First of all let me say that I have been a customer for the last five years. The food and atmosphere used to be so wonderful but the last year or two has been mediocre at best. The food quality has gone down, the quality of the dining experience is low (with dirty tables everywhere, dirty dishes, an absolutely horrific bathroom, and staff that look like they don't want to be there)... but tonight is the straw that broke the camels back.... I ordered a dish on DoorDash and thought that I had added a request in the notes section. I had not, which was totally my fault but I called to see if they could accommodate my request anyway. I was meant on the phone with just about the rudest most low class woman I've ever spoken to in a professional setting... I was in the process of telling her what happened and she kept cutting me off to argue and yell. I was so confused as to why she was angry so I told her that I didn't call her to argue and that I needed her to just hear what I was saying so that she could understand the full scope of my question. She put me on hold quickly and then put a manager on the phone who mimicked her same nasty attitude and horrible disposition. It was so disappointing that I called back to speak with the manager again and told him that I didn't appreciate the nastiness and that they had lost a customer... He said absolutely nothing as if it didn't even matter. Well I hope it doesn't because I will NEVER GO TO OR ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN!!! The idea that you think it's appropriate to yell at people or be nasty because of a simple question is ridiculous...these times are hard and people are hurting and if I wanna treat myself and my family to a night out to dinner I don't wanna have to argue through your mediocre food in your nasty staff to do it. there are too many great restaurants in Chicago with wonderful customer service to deal with them... read more

I came here for lunch while in Chicago and they have decent pasta. I got the spicy shrimp linguini and it was very good. The sauce wasn't too tangy and had a tiny kick. The portion size was just right so that the past doesn't get tiring. I would definitely visit again when I'm back in Chicago! read more

Either they got some funny business going on or they're too cheap to update and reprint their menus. Either way it's not cool. Went in and ordered a medium thin crust chicago style pizza. Menu says $13, cashier ring me up for $14. I ask her why does my receipt say $14 and she say "the price in the menu is wrong, it's $14 for a medium" Uuuhm excuse me for one don't you think you should inform the customer of this "before" you just ring them up, especially if you see them looking at the menu to order. For two. How you gonna raise the prices and not adjust your menus to reflect this change? So no good business practice and kinda shady if you ask me. Place remind me of the pizza spot in Bronx Tale that was ran by the mob. Won't be back here. read more

Very nice and well laid out Italian restaurant/pizza place. Looks much more upscale than it is, but in a good way. The waiter and staff were good, knowledgable, and efficient. I love that they kept the fluids full. Started off with their standard bread with olive oil. I enjoyed it, but it was probably because it's been a while since I had some not because it was a great item. The buffalo chicken wings were really buffalo nuggets, or perhaps strips. I actually like that they were boneless. But it was a "parts is parts" kind of nugget. It worked for me though. Tasty and filling. We had the Almost Gourmet pizza. That's with sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce. Only we deconstructed it and had it without the mushrooms. The pizza was OK, but nothing special. It worked, but in a town of great pizza joints it didn't stand out. Likely good enough for the kids while the real adults had a pasta dish. I only wish I tried one of those. I would go again, but if so I'd avoid the pizza's. read more

I mean, it's only my favorite pasta restaurant in Hyde Park. Whenever I want some authentic pasta I order here. I feel in love with their mussels years ago, and they've been a pasta fave ever since. On this occasion I ordered delivery on UberEats, I ordered a spicy shrimp and mussels pasta. It arrived hot and ready to eat. Delicious. I've also had there creamy garlic shrimp pasta, the mussels are my fave and also their bed. Yum. I usually sit outside when I go and the weather is beautiful. Nice dinner spot. read more

I was highly disappointed in the lack of service, flavor and resolve for my patronage at this place yesterday. Here's what happened: I arrived with my wife to order a chicken paccata for her and a deep dish, personal veggie twist pizza with pineapples for me. I was told to wait 45 minutes for the order to be prepared and agreed because a deep dish should take this long to prepare. 45 minutes later I pick up a traditional pizza that although it looked good, was not the deep dish I ordered or waited for. My wife's paccata was what she expected but I'll talk about taste later. When I attempted to remind the staff of my request, for deep dish vs the traditional pizza I received, I was rudely told that I "read the menu...". Although, this was true; I also asked questions and was led to a bait and switch situation that made me wait/pay for less than I requested. I complained in person and was being led into an argument so I called to complain, on my drive home, and was apologized to / offered to wait another 45 minutes for another pizza. I didn't want to wait till 8pm for their error and was hungry so I declined the offer. The pizza's and paccata's tastes were just ok. I took care of this, for my wife and I, by doctoring up their flavor using our truffle parmesan black garlic seasoning from costco. With this repair we were satiated. However, we shouldn't have had to repair their lack of culinary execution. Therefore, I took three stars away from my evaluation because they lacked service (to fulfill the order I requested), flavor completeness or the resolve to fully satisfy my complaint (they could have advised me to come another time for their correction) . You've been warned and there are higher quality establishments within walking distance of this one. read more

I loved the feel of this old town restaurant that serves pizza as well as other Italian dishes AND American food. I believe in the old saying, "when in Rome, do as the Romans do", however my shrimp linguine dish was FLAVORLESS! I don't recall the last time I had a meal THAT horrible! I even asked the waitress to have the chef add a lil kick to it. Sad to say, it didn't help a bit. It was STILL horrible. The shrimp was ok...overall everything was BLAND. I was highly disappointed. The best part of the meal was the bread, olive oil and oregano. The establishment itself was cute & quaint and there were plenty of customers who seemed to have selected other menu items and not Italian (I can see why). My cousin ordered a spicy shrimp dish with linguine and hers was so spicy it wasn't edible. It was unbelievable that our meals were so bad because my expectation is: if you mess up anything it shouldn't be what your specialty is. Go figure! Let's suffice it to say that if you try this place, stick with other dishes OR order Italian at YOUR OWN Risk! read more

I luv the food here and the prices are favorable. Service was acceptable or as expected.

Nice ambience. Family oriented. A couple different rooms for dining. Pizza is not bad. Great chicken, avocado salad. Their burger and fries are pretty good. Unfortunately, every time I've eaten their pasta, it tastes processed. Which it probably is. I've only eaten in the restaurant a couple times, but like that they have outdoor seating in the warm months. Wait staff is pretty friendly. read more

COVID or no COVID, there is no excuse to the poor service and long wait time for food I received today at Pizza Capri. It is not like they are a new restaurant or was dealing with pre-pandemic seating capacity. They have had years to come up processes to handle a mad rush in the kitchen. Just a total failure! For example, it makes no sense to me to have a family size pizza arrive (cook time was 45 minutes) to your table at the exact time your appetizer of a salad and fried calamari (which was cold) did. And I am 100% positive that I wouldn't have gotten the appetizers if I didn't track down the manager to complain. I could go into more things but let me end right here. read more

I don't think I've been *inside* Pizza Capri since I was on a date in college about 18 years ago, but this place has become a mainstay of our life since moving back to Chicago. I think the pizza is only okay, though the kids in my life seem to love it, but they have some very nice salads, especially the Abigail's favorite (avocado, chicken, hearts of palm, onion, tomato, mozzarella) which allows us to easily and reliably please multiple members of the family on those days that cooking gets away from me. Delivery is reliable and easy, and you don't have to think about it too much when you place an order. I really this doesn't sound like overwhelming enthusiasm, but who gets enthusiastic about that old comfy sweater that you find yourself wearing day after day? read more

I had a bad first impression of Pizza Capri, but I eventually fell in love with it over the years. Why did I have a bad first impression of Capri? 1) Relatively expensive food at Hyde Park - Compared to Giordano's and Edwardo's, Pizza Capri's pizzas are relatively expensive. 2) Association with food delivery - Pizza Capri often delivers food to nearby schools. This delivery image has caused me to never stop by Capri for years until a friend invited me there for dinner. 3) Slow in-house service - During busy hours, Pizza Capri can take at least forty minutes to serve the food. Why did I fall in love with Capri eventually? 1) Consistent food quality - The food at Capri has always been fresh. My favorite dish is the mixed baby green salad, which has strawberries, pecans, cranberries and spinach. I also adore the spinach salad, which has figs, goat cheese, pecans and spinach. 2) Friendly staff - Although I have arrived at the restaurant before the opening hours, I was welcomed by friendly staff. 3) Fast take-out service - Appetizers and salads are ready for take out in 10 to 15 minutes. Have you fallen in love with Capri yet? read more

Went for brunch on a beautiful day in Hyde Park. Beware you have to find parking however, i used the Spot Hero app and found something a block a way (barely a block). I had the chicken wrap, and mozzarella sticks and my friend had their salad and garlic bread. I definitely recommend the mozzarella sticks and garlic bread. So so so good. The wrap came with chips, not a lot but enough. We had margaritas as well. My frozen margarita was ok, but needed more blending. Prices weren't bad, I'll definitely be back. read more

I've been going to Pizza Capri for years. Not overly impressive, not bad. It's usually a convenient last ditch effort to subdue ravenous late night hunger. Ironically, I rarely ordered pizza and when I did never deep dish. Pizza Capri is very well known for their pasta. Clearly, I've erred in judgement for a long, long time. I shared a deep dish pepperoni pizza and couldn't believe how good it was. The crust was flakey and had the buttery richness of a croissant. The cheese is high quality and the sauce balanced, albeit slightly sweet. Hyde Park has the reputation as a vast array of mediocre dining options and I mostly agree. Had I only tried the deep dish, I probably would've rated 4 stars. I suggest trying if you're in the area on the hunt for deep dish pizza. read more

Nice sit down restaurant in Hyde Park. The food is good and the staff is friendly. My only real complaint is that the place is small, so evenings and weekends here can be pretty crowded. This evening my husband & i ordered a burger with fries and a a chicken avocado salad. Our UberEats driver gets here with only fries..we ask where is the rest of our food? He says this is the only thing the restaurant gave me. I called the restaurant and a you g lady answers, I explained the issue and she says "oop, well you can tell the driver to come back if he still there" i ask to speak to a manager. The manager (a male) gets on the phone and I re-explain the issue he says is the driver still there he only took 1 thing (mind you we didn't order a lot and the bag was big enough to fit ALL items) . I said no the driver is gone can I come pick up the rest of my order? He says no take it up with Uber. 1.why is each person keep asking is the driver still here as if he lives with me or something 2. How did y'all forget my food as an establishment it's your job BEFORE food is given rather delivery/pickup or in house that EVERYTHING is there 3. Delicious. It's a great place to have a bite in Hyde Park and every time I go there, the food is amazing and I have no issues. It's great for groups so bring your friends! Parking is scarce cause it's Hyde Park (the joke is, there's nowhere to hide and nowhere to park lol) so leave the car at home and take an uber, train or bus. I typically don't try the drinks there but they have a decent selection. They usually have a sports game on so you won't miss anything if you sit in the right spot. I'm sad that I have to write this negative review because their tequila lime chicken pasta is so great.. but everyone here is so rude unless you go in the morning/afternoon. I get it, we all have our bad days.. however being treated like this on multiple occasions is unacceptable. When I called to place a to-go order, the person on the phone picked up and then hung up on me. The second time I called, the person on the phone asked what I wanted for my order and didn't ask for my name or give an ETA for my food and hung up so I was a bit confused but whatever! They were probably busy and that's somewhat understandable. So I came to pick up my food and the man at the front desk just stared at me when I came up to the counter and I wasn't greeted at all. I told him I had a phone order and he asked me what my name was.. I told him the person on the phone didn't ask for my name and that I ordered a tequila lime chicken pasta. He said "Well you're going to have to help me because it's going to take me forever to find your order. What's the number?" in a condescending tone. I'm not stupid but I didn't want to rush or be rude so of course I was going to let him know the situation about the phone call. His attitude was just unnecessary. read more

As I was enjoying my Grecian Salad, I quickly became disgusted as I found this dead fly wrapped within a piece of my lettuce. Waiter said it's washed in a large spinner in the basement; maybe a fly got blended in or maybe not. At any rate, the salad was returned didn't want another one.
