Even though it was busy in the area, we were seated within about 25 minutes as the hostess predicted. Our table was nicely situated in the front room. Our food came out timely and was hot and tasty. This was a delicious meal with absolutely HUGE portions!! Even though we got the "small" pasta size, it was enough to last 2 meals!! First, we were started off with a complimentary sourdough like bread that was incredibly soft on the inside. This was paired with herb infused olive oil. Huge portions sizes! We tried their deep dish pizza. I've never had it before, so I really enjoyed it! I had nothing to compare it to, but my friend, who's local also really enjoyed it, so I would say it was a solid deep dish! They serve bread, and oregano olive oil as a starter. One of my go to's for decades. The BEST Caesar salad I've had in the Chicagoland area. The creamy garlic shrimp is amazing. I often add spinach to it. It's a garlic lovers dream. To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my extreme disappointment and outrage over the appalling service I received during my recent visit to Pizza Capri (1501 E. 53rd Street, Chicago, IL) on Tuesday, June 25, 2025. This experience was not only frustrating--it was downright insulting and reflective of the worst kind of customer service I have ever encountered in any dining establishment. From the moment we were seated, our server, Javier, was inattentive and dismissive. After taking our order, he failed to return to our table to check on us. When I inquired about his absence, he unapologetically stated, "I don't come back once you start complaining." I was absolutely appalled. This is not only unprofessional--it is deliberately rude and unacceptable behavior from someone in the hospitality industry. To make matters worse, the meal I ordered--seared tilapia and mashed potatoes--was a disaster. The fish was completely unseasoned, and the mashed potatoes were ice cold. I asked to speak with the manager, who eventually came over with an unwelcoming and curt attitude. He took the plate back without so much as an apology and said it would be remade. After waiting over 25 minutes--with my guest nearly finished with their meal--I had to get up and inquire about the status of my food. The same manager casually responded, "It's coming right up." When I asked if there would be any discount or accommodation for the excessive delay and inconvenience, he bluntly replied, "No!" At that point, I told him to cancel the dish. The audacity and lack of basic courtesy were beyond belief. I returned to my seat and asked Javier for the manager's name. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't know," refusing to provide any assistance. Shortly after, the manager approached, and I asked for his name. He identified himself as Eric. I informed him that I would be writing to notify ownership of this shameful treatment. His response? "OK, you can start writing it now." That dismissive and sarcastic remark was the final straw. The lack of professionalism, customer care, and basic human decency from both the server and the manager was utterly disgraceful. I am compelled to believe that the treatment my guest and I received may have had undertones of racial discrimination. Regardless of intent, the behavior exhibited by your staff was demeaning and deeply offensive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The outside is pretty basic--commandeered sidewalk--but in good weather it can be a great place to soak up the sun like a lizard, and the staff working outdoors are friendly and responsive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The indoor bar has developed weird conventions--they have started tacking on some "service charge" for each item that isn't part of the tip but which they say is to offset the rising price of supplies (or something like that). The bar also has ANOTHER charge for the tip. I didn't appreciate the confusing novel approach reflected on the receipt, and the food and drink are generally mediocre and overpriced. I've been coming here for 30 years but I think I'll give it a miss in the future, especially the indoor part. We are no longer that desperate for outdoor cafe options in the neighborhood. I lived in Hyde Park for many years. I've been coming to that restaurant for many years in ordering. I've always ordered two things on the weekend the brunch to smoke salmon scramble, and also the blue cheese salad with shrimp and sometimes extra shrimp with the blue cheese dressing in the last year. I've gotten the wrong dressing with my order and have to go back with the smoked salmon scramble. The eggs are cooked too hard, but I just didn't wanna complain, but what I notice is I'll order and have it delivered the last few times I don't get the fruit or I don't get the bread and I pay good money for it. I'm tired of complaining so Just gonna leave it alone for a while last Sunday I ordered and they brought it to my job and I was really hungry so I put it up for lunch and there was no fruit. Friday after work vibes lead me to the infamous Hyde Park community. Parking,...what was I thinking? Anyway I was lucky enough to find a park about 3 blocks away from Pizza Capri. Finally, I'm ordering the pizza!!! I don't know the ingredients in it but it's additive. We ordered a medium pizza and a couple of margaritas and we ate the whole thing!!! It was served hot and gooey, topped with parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. We were served bread and butter when we first sat down. Don't use the butter that is served with the bread, opt for the garlic olive oil and top it off with the table parmesan cheese, very delicious! You're gonna love it too!! The food and atmosphere used to be so wonderful but the last year or two has been mediocre at best. I was meant on the phone with just about the rudest most low class woman I've ever spoken to in a professional setting... I was in the process of telling her what happened and she kept cutting me off to argue and yell. I was so confused as to why she was angry so I told her that I didn't call her to argue and that I needed her to just hear what I was saying so that she could understand the full scope of my question. She put me on hold quickly and then put a manager on the phone who mimicked her same nasty attitude and horrible disposition. It was so disappointing that I called back to speak with the manager again and told him that I didn't appreciate the nastiness and that they had lost a customer... He said absolutely nothing as if it didn't even matter. Well I hope it doesn't because I will NEVER GO TO OR ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN!!! A guy went around to each table and happily grunted and muttered some words to each table, but neither of us could identify a language in his words. A man outside was hiding behind a post, taking photos of a young couple at another table when they weren't looking. Something felt off here, but perhaps it was just the night. But even so, we had a good dinner. We got the lemon and roasted chicken thin crust pizza. It tasted okay, but the ingredients tasted of a somewhat lower quality (perhaps the lemons weren't fresh lemons?). I salute them for the creative pizza! I was not into the crust - tasted a lot of baking soda and lots of sugar; it was almost like a cookie. But, my husband really liked it! So I would give a 3.5 overall for the food, and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt (a 4) until I try something else. The drinks were a heavy pour, it took me a while to get through my martini!
