I'm genuinely disgusted by my experience with Pizza Capri. Finding a long red hair baked into my pizza was beyond unacceptable. This wasn't a minor mistake or a slightly disappointing meal -- it was a complete failure of basic food sanitation. Nothing ruins your appetite faster than pulling someone else's hair out of food you paid for. At that point, the entire pizza becomes questionable because you're left wondering what other hygiene standards were ignored in the kitchen. To be fair, when I called, the staff was helpful and handled the complaint professionally. I appreciate that. However, good customer service after the fact does not erase the fact that a pizza was prepared, cooked, boxed, and served with a visible piece of hair in it. For a restaurant serving food to the public, cleanliness should be the bare minimum, not something customers have to hope for. This experience was absolutely disgusting, completely unacceptable, and enough to make me seriously question ever ordering from Pizza Capri again. Do better. A restaurant should never need a customer complaint to remind them that hair does not belong in somebody's food. read more

Pizza Capri is a mainstay in Hyde Park. I hadn't visited in a while but did so today, Juneteenth, and was not disappointed. Even though it was busy in the area, we were seated within about 25 minutes as the hostess predicted. Our table was nicely situated in the front room. Our food came out timely and was hot and tasty. We had the tequila line fettuccine and the bbq pizza, dishes I've had many times. Both were delicious. Happy we stopped in today. read more

Has been a reliable go to in Hyde Park for lunch or dinner. Walk or bus it here as the area is crazy busy and parking can be hard to find depending when you come, but the food is worth the effort. Went here with some friends. We created vision boards and had brunch. I had the scrambled eggs and bacon with the expresso martini and my friend had the french toast. Breakfast was good. I ate dinner at Pizza Capri approx 1 week ago. My sister and I ordered a large bowl of pasta that came with chicken. We asked could we substitute the chicken with Salmon and the answer was yes. So we made the change. The pasta came out to us with different temperatures. Her pasta was so hot, steam was still coming off the pasta when she was putting it in the to go container. My pasta was just not that hot at all. We were quite surprised when the bill came because we were charged around 26 for the pasta, plus an additional 13 to substitute. When I looked back at their menu after arriving home, they only charge 11 to add Salmon. We paid 13 and didn't get any chicken at all. That sting because we paid 40 for a bowl of pasta. read more

This was a delicious meal with absolutely HUGE portions!! Even though we got the "small" pasta size, it was enough to last 2 meals!! First, we were started off with a complimentary sourdough like bread that was incredibly soft on the inside. This was paired with herb infused olive oil. We got the tri colored tortellini, which was marinated in a beautiful creamy basil sauce and coated deliciously. They were so generous with the chicken!! The chicken scallopini picatta was also delicious with a lemon caper sauce and very tender chicken breasts. Loved the angel hair pasta it was served with! The food is good. We started out with bread and their olive oil herb blend which is one of the best I have had. My husband and I shared a sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza. My friend had the Thai pizza amd her husband had the cheese lasagna with meat sauce. Both pizzas was really good. My friend was crazy about his lasagna. I had a margarita which was descent. Huge portions sizes! We tried their deep dish pizza. I've never had it before, so I really enjoyed it! I had nothing to compare it to, but my friend, who's local also really enjoyed it, so I would say it was a solid deep dish! They serve bread, and oregano olive oil as a starter. Most outrageous experience ever! Terrible rude and abusive customer service . Asking to leave 45 minutes before closing time or take pizza to go and last drink served cause staff wanted to leave early. Pushing us out multiple times in very rude manner. Manager not available to discuss the situation. We left without a chance to eat or order anything else but a drink! They were extremely rude and there was blood and feces in women's toilet!! I don't even want to imagine the conditions of the hidden kitchen.. Disgusting experience. Don't even think about wasting your time and money going there. To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my extreme disappointment and outrage over the appalling service I received during my recent visit to Pizza Capri (1501 E. 53rd Street, Chicago, IL) on Tuesday, June 25, 2025. This experience was not only frustrating--it was downright insulting and reflective of the worst kind of customer service I have ever encountered in any dining establishment. From the moment we were seated, our server, Javier, was inattentive and dismissive. After taking our order, he failed to return to our table to check on us. When I inquired about his absence, he unapologetically stated, "I don't come back once you start complaining." I was absolutely appalled. This is not only unprofessional--it is deliberately rude and unacceptable behavior from someone in the hospitality industry. To make matters worse, the meal I ordered--seared tilapia and mashed potatoes--was a disaster. The fish was completely unseasoned, and the mashed potatoes were ice cold. I asked to speak with the manager, who eventually came over with an unwelcoming and curt attitude. He took the plate back without so much as an apology and said it would be remade. After waiting over 25 minutes--with my guest nearly finished with their meal--I had to get up and inquire about the status of my food. The same manager casually responded, "It's coming right up." When I asked if there would be any discount or accommodation for the excessive delay and inconvenience, he bluntly replied, "No!" At that point, I told him to cancel the dish. The audacity and lack of basic courtesy were beyond belief. I returned to my seat and asked Javier for the manager's name. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "I don't know," refusing to provide any assistance. Shortly after, the manager approached, and I asked for his name. He identified himself as Eric. I informed him that I would be writing to notify ownership of this shameful treatment. His response? "OK, you can start writing it now." That dismissive and sarcastic remark was the final straw. The lack of professionalism, customer care, and basic human decency from both the server and the manager was utterly disgraceful. I am compelled to believe that the treatment my guest and I received may have had undertones of racial discrimination. Regardless of intent, the behavior exhibited by your staff was demeaning and deeply offensive. I will not only be sharing this experience on every public review platform available, but I am also considering further action. The outside is pretty basic--commandeered sidewalk--but in good weather it can be a great place to soak up the sun like a lizard, and the staff working outdoors are friendly and responsive. The indoor bar has developed weird conventions--they have started tacking on some "service charge" for each item that isn't part of the tip but which they say is to offset the rising price of supplies (or something like that). The bar also has ANOTHER charge for the tip. I didn't appreciate the confusing novel approach reflected on the receipt, and the food and drink are generally mediocre and overpriced. I've been coming here for 30 years but I think I'll give it a miss in the future, especially the indoor part. We are no longer that desperate for outdoor cafe options in the neighborhood. In the winter, the Cove and Falcon are much better choices in terms of value for money and atmosphere unless someone is blasting music you realize you can't learn to like. (Sometimes the music at those places, familiar or not, is brilliant and an education.) read more

I lived in Hyde Park for many years. I've been coming to that restaurant for many years in ordering. I've always ordered two things on the weekend the brunch to smoke salmon scramble, and also the blue cheese salad with shrimp and sometimes extra shrimp with the blue cheese dressing in the last year. I've gotten the wrong dressing with my order and have to go back with the smoked salmon scramble. The eggs are cooked too hard, but I just didn't wanna complain, but what I notice is I'll order and have it delivered the last few times I don't get the fruit or I don't get the bread and I pay good money for it. I'm tired of complaining so Just gonna leave it alone for a while last Sunday I ordered and they brought it to my job and I was really hungry so I put it up for lunch and there was no fruit. It came so fast and I tipped too. I just can't believe I called. They said well they forgot to pack the shrimp. Friday after work vibes lead me to the infamous Hyde Park community. Parking,...what was I thinking? Anyway I was lucky enough to find a park about 3 blocks away from Pizza Capri. Finally, I'm ordering the pizza!!! I don't know the ingredients in it but it's additive. We ordered a medium pizza and a couple of margaritas and we ate the whole thing!!! It was served hot and gooey, topped with parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes. We were served bread and butter when we first sat down. Don't use the butter that is served with the bread, opt for the garlic olive oil and top it off with the table parmesan cheese, very delicious! You're gonna love it too!! The service here is always good from being greeted at the front door to constant attention while dining in. Now I remember why I drive to this congested community. We ordered calamari and it was really tasty. We also tried a medium sausage and mushroom stuffed pizza that took about 35 minutes to be brought out. It was fantastic! Husband enjoyed his Mexican Mule drink that is made with Tequila and I chose Pino Grigio.. get the bottle it's worth the price. Tiramisu for dessert was just what we both needed and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. Service was excellent! I noticed brunch items on the menu and the waiter informed me that mimosas are also available during brunch.. We will be returning soon to try the brunch! I ordering a chicken avocado salad 3-5 times a week now I wouldn't even spend my last here. It seems like management doesn't even care about the quality of food they're putting out.
