The best pizza in Burlington. I've been several times and always extremely satisfied. I do ask for the pizza a bit well done so it gets some char on the crust. I typically order the Tim's pepperoni which is covered in toppings. Decent draft choices or grab a pint from the brewery that shares the building. You can also bring your pizza to the brewery if you choose. Parking lot fills quickly so park at furniture store next door if after 6 or there is street parking across, along the street that runs next to Great Northern. read more

"Rudely forgotten!" Called for a pick-up order. I was told, not asked, to hold. The phone was not put on "hold" but placed on the counter, so I could hear all of the noise and voices going on in the restaurant. I patiently held for 15 minutes, hanging up to try to call again. Line was busy for another 10 minutes. Finally got someone, still somewhat rude, even after I mentioned being in hold for 15 minutes. When I picked up my order, it had apparently been paid for accidentally. Again no sense of remorse or apology for keeping me waiting, to fix it.The young lady, behind the counter. was somewhat compassionate. This is based on 2 experiences. The first time we had the appetizer special which was bruschetta with some sort of some cheese and honey. It was delicious. We ordered the deep dish and were surprised to find that it's essentially a giant bread stick with a few toppings. It left much to be desired and I don't think it should be called a deep dish pizza. The second time we ordered the same appetizer special because it's great. We came back to try the regular pizza which was pretty good but a very thin pizza. I feel they need to revamp the deep dish and make it an actual deep dish and not use the prepackaged cooked doughs I saw. Great location and setting and very good pizza. We ordered a pepperoni and two beers and the bill was just under $40 with the tip. The pizza was good, I'm not ready to call it the best in the area. I like a little more texture in the crust but I think this is just a slightly different style than I'm used to. I'm excited to go back and try a few different pies including the deep dish. It's also cool they are sharing the building with Queen City who I tend to forget about. Overall a great experience and we will be back. read more

Vibe/Atmosphere (4/5): Most points awarded here. The "open kitchen" design places you close to the ovens and allows you to observe staff tossing dough and creating pies. Long bar table, comfortable couches and chairs allow for a relaxed environment. And this place is literally right next door to Queen City Brewing, which makes this a prime location for those wanting to crush multiple malty beverages before walking across the hall for some pies. Service (2.5/5): Pizza 44 is an "Order at the Counter" place, where they give you a number to bring back to the table. The girl at the counter seemed a little...agitated? Impersonal? Perhaps they were short-staffed this day, as it was the 4th of July. Regardless, between this and the slow service in general, I can't say I was too impressed with this category. Food (3/5): They were fresh out of the coveted cast-iron garlic bites, so we went with the meatball appetizer. Sauce was decent, but meatballs themselves were quite dry and underwhelming, and took about 30 minutes to get to us. We ordered two pizzas - "The Barbecue" and "Doug's Marvelous Maple", which took an additional 30-45 minutes to come to our table. Both were decent - on the lighter side, fairly crispy crust, fresh toppings (aside from the chicken, which seemed a bit dry on the BBQ pizza). I especially enjoyed the jalapeno and the BBQ drizzle on the BBQ pizza. I would have preferred for the pizza to be served on some sort of pizza tray stand, rather than just placing a steaming hot pan directly on the table (I heard multiple complaints from those around me about this). I LOVE pizza and want to like this place. I've eaten there a few times now and am sad to say I haven't been super impressed. First time I got a veggie deep dish, which seemed like a pre-made crust that the baked cheese just kind of fell off of (like the bread and toppings were two separate parts that just didn't work together). I've also had the Go Ask Alice, which has a nice flavor. I was super excited to have some for leftovers, but found a piece of paper kind of rolled-up and baked inside the crust... If I had the option to give no stars, I would. Here's why... 1. Their space offers no diversity. The image upon their fountain drink machine is a black and white photo when racial segregation was active within the American law system with only white people displayed...as in, no blacks allowed. (Thanks for that...super awesome to get free refills & feel consistently triggered by this image. Also, once you buy a $40+ meal, it doesn't even include the soft drinks, you need to pay an extra $5+ for that...) The 2nd time I went back to this place, simply because my colleague enjoyed this place...My daughter and so were completely ignored by our white male waiter. He would only address my colleague at the table, which was a fellow white male. Despite the fact that I had paid for the entire meal, he still never even acknowledged my presence, nor my daughters. By the end of the meal, he had asked my colleague if he'd like a box, he said yes. When the waiter was returning with this box. I had had enough with being blatantly ignored and stood up and intercepted the take out box saying, "hey, you know, you can also acknowledge me at this table, not just my colleague here." He immediately became defensive and asked, "What. Am so not allowed to talk to him?" I replied, "no, of course you can. What I am saying is you can also acknowledge me too. Typically when a waiter waits on a table, they acknowledge everyone at that table....I did just pay for this entire meal after all." He became overwhelmed, handed me the box and immediately went back to his fellow employees to complain about me, calling me crazy...that was a fun experience. After this occurred, I had wrote to the owner and he never replied back to me whatsoever. Seems to me they're trying to keep out a certain clientele by means of subjugation. Unfortunately, the owner was also rude to my colleague recently as well. He was allowed to have a tab there, with his white privilege, and the owner had publicly insulted him about his tab he was allowed to have. Needless to say, he also no longer feels comfortable eating there. This place is discriminatory to the common working class citizens. (The owner literally told my colleague to get a real job.) I am frankly disgusted with this place and encourage you to reconsider supporting this pizzeria. read more

Very excited to have a pizza place in the South End. I won't jump on the Facebook happy wagon unfortunately. Mixed results. We have eaten there three times, with so-so feelings about the food. The texture of the crust is very good, cooked perfectly. Thin, chewy crust, just right. The toppings are stingy, and somewhat misleading at least in one case. We got the 'Brussels' pizza, which purports to have 'crispy Brussels sprouts, bacon and red onion.' We got it without bacon. For the sprouts, we got leaves, no hearts. You know how you peel the outer leaves off a Brussels sprout when you clean it? That's what you get on the pizza. Yuk, charred leaves with very little flavor. Not one heart (they must save those for the Caesar salad -which is excellent.) There were about 8 tiny pieces of red onion. They charged us full price despite no bacon, others do that, but it deserves at least a buck off a pricey $15 medium pizza! As I said before, the Brussels Caesar was unique, and outstanding. We would go back for that. Good selection of beer. Seating is odd. Massive booths, which both times we went had two people sitting in them, while larger groups waited. High top tables are not very comfy for a relaxing dinner. Fine for a quick slam. They also have small tables at regular height. We had another stingy topping pizza, a red with veggies, on another occasion. On another occasion, I had a slice of someone's meatball pizza that was pretty good, seemed a bit more generous on the toppings. When you eat there (vs takeout), the staff is phenomenal. Busy busy, helping each other, it's a team effort. A+. The best I have seen, seriously. The person(s) at the register could be more pleasant. Be happy! You have a great new place! Smile! As a pizza snob I would put Pizza 44 after Folinos, Flatbread, and before Veritas and the rest. Please have someone QA the pizzas before they go out for consistent and ample toppings. My boyfriend and I decided to try this spot for the first time. I was under the assumption that the pizza restaurant was somehow connected to the brewery next door where you could buy a growler and come over to Pizza44 for dinner but that wasn't the case (my bad for not knowing that). Pros: 1. Able to book a same-day reservation with no problem 2. Nice open dining area 3. Decent selection of brews on tap 4. Food came out very promptly 5. Beet salad was very good- especially the homemade ricotta Cons: 1. Counter person made very little eye contact with us when we were asking questions and trying to order. Seemed very preoccupied reviewing the clipboard that was in front of them. Was mumbling and as a result we apparently ordered only one pizza instead of the two we planned which turned out to be a good thing. 2. There were a significant number of house and fruit flies that were flying over the table as we ate. 3. Sadly, the pizza was not great. We ordered the Mickster. It arrived to our table extremely greasy with pools of oil on top. I have to agree with the other reviewers that the toppings were extremely scant. We ordered a small size and several of the slices didn't even have sausage on them. Did not get any of the heat and spice that was in the description. I also agree with other reviewers that the crust had very little texture other than chewy. I could be wrong, but I thought I saw pre-baked pizza crusts stacked up behind the counter when we were ordering. That leads me to believe that they just top the pre-baked dough when they are ordered? I am by no means a chef but I did watch the DIY video on their website and they show cooking the dough with toppings. There are many options for pizza in btv. I believe this is the best pizza in town. The cheese pizza is garlic, cheese, herb balance--not pretentious, just really good. The thick crust sausage and pepperoni is awesome. The crust is crunchy cheese happiness and the price is on point. read more
