As a self-proclaimed pizza connoisseur, I recently found myself in Burlington for a work trip and decided to conduct what I can only describe as a two-night pizza field study. Vermont, as best I can tell, excels at three things. Producing elite-level cheese, perfecting brick oven pizza, and fully committing to a very particular political personality. Two of those things directly benefit me, so I leaned in. One immediate observation. If you are looking for anything other than wood-fired, artisanal pizza, you may want to adjust expectations. That appears to be the law of the land. Naturally, I adapted by eating pizza two nights in a row. Night 2: Folino's Pizza The next night I pivoted and ended up at Folino's, which turned out to be the value correction I needed. I ordered the MK pizza, which comes topped with caramelized onions and impressively large pepperoni slices that do not believe in subtlety. The difference was immediate. I paid less than the night before and received a pizza that was easily twice the size. This one actually acknowledged that I had not eaten since breakfast. The caramelized onions added a great balance of sweetness, the pepperoni brought both flavor and coverage, and the overall product hit that ideal intersection of quality and quantity. This pizza was not just good, it was filling. I left satisfied and with leftovers, which later doubled as an elite cold hotel breakfast. That alone puts it in a different category. The atmosphere at Folino's was laid-back, clean, and refreshingly unpretentious. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I showed up earlier than I had said I would, fully expecting to be told to wait, but they immediately jumped into making my order without hesitation. The location has a slightly rough-around-the-edges feel, but that seems consistent with parts of Burlington. It adds a little unpredictability to the experience, which at this point felt on brand. read more

Connected to Fiddlehead, we found this place last year while on vacation for skiiing, and the Fiddlehead/Folino's pizza combo was so good, we went out of our way to come back. $30 for a salad. The service was excellent -- friendly, attentive, and quick. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and high quality, which I really appreciated. That said, the pizzas were a bit overdone. The undercarriage was heavily charred (photo attached), which gave a burnt taste that took away from the good ingredients. The "crispy wings" were also undercooked -- still pink by the bone, which made them hard to enjoy. I think this place has great potential because everything else -- from the staff to the atmosphere -- was on point. First time here. Came with my husband and daughter who have been before. We have had lots of different pizza around Burly but this by far is my favorite! We went plain and got the cheese pizza and the Detroit style cheese pizza. Both were delicious and obviously polar opposite styles! The cheese pizza was thin, crispy and came out piping hot. The Detroit style was thick and cooked perfectly, not too doughy but just perfect! We used self service but still had help which was nice. Everyone was kind and nice. I recently (January 2024) compared prices to other local pizza places and folinos charges the same as comparable places in the area. If it's just you or you and a friend, you can probably get away with ordering a "small" pizza. Pizza is super fresh, light, crispy and made with local ingredients. The crust is thin (which I love! But I know some people don't prefer the so noting it in the review) When I order ahead, pizza is always ready for pickup when I arrive. Inside of restaurant has high ceilings, kind of a casual low key vibe, pretty bright lighting, and you can see pizzas being made. Lots of tables of varying sizes to sit at. While visiting Burlington we decided to try pizza for dinner. I looked on Yelp and chose Folino's. They had wood fired pizza which we like. They also serve Detroit style pizza (deep dish with toppings reversed). This is a fast food/dine in combo restaurant. A host seats you snd gives you a menu. Then you go up to the cashier to order, get your own drink. And plates. Each pizza is made to order so it takes a little while to get your food. Our pizza arrived and it looked good! After taking a picture, we dug in. It was hot and the cheese was melty. But for me the flavor was just okay. The sauce was kind of bland and there wasn't enough cheese. The wood fire charting on the crust was a little much - my fingers were black. I didn't leave hungry, but I'm not sure It would be my first choice for pizza again. I will say that the place got really busy and the host/cashier was definitely getting his steps in. He kept a good attitude but it appeared they were short staffed. We came for lunch on a Saturday in October and it was very quiet. We enjoyed the special touch of the old school chairs for the table. This is not a full service restaurant, you can pick a table or be assigned one depending on how busy it is, but you order and pay at front desk and grab your own water and plates. It was nice to see them cooking pizza right there. They have gluten free crust so my husband was able to enjoy a pizza. We each had our own small pizza, and we found them to just be ok. Brick oven pizza - thin crust and a nice char underneath it; however, the toppings were a little scarce for me and it wasn't very hot upon opening the box. I walked to get the pizza and being told to pick up at 8:20 - I was there on the dot and after a 8 minute walk back the pizza was cold. They have two locations and walking to the one, it looks like they have outdoor and indoor seating and a nice range of options on their menu. The is probably hands down the best pizza in Burlington PERIOD lol. They have both indoor and outdoor dining options. We chose to do outdoor cause it was a beautiful day out. Both dining options gave off a very chill Vermont vibe. My one takeaway is that if you elect to sit outside your gonna be close to a parking lot which services the adjacent supermarket so it could be a little noisy. I didn't mind. I came here with 5 people and we ended up ordering 4 large pizzas. We struggled to finish the last 3 slices! The pizza was BOMB. It had a crispy crust, a lot of flavor, and it wasn't too pricey. For 4 large pizzas plus 18% tip we paid roughly $111.00. We split the bill so it came out to roughly $22 per person. This place is also BYOB so you can bring whatever booze you want. The only downside though is they don't have ice in the restaurant so come prepared. The food didn't take too long to come out and the service was great. I can't wait to come back here again. Find Folino's in Burlington is taking online orders GREAT! Waited an hour, drove 10 mins there and 10 mins back. First, I paid extra for mushrooms and instead got red onions which my fiance hates but I called and they said they would refund which I can live with. But then we start eating our first slice and the entire pizza is burnt. Like charred burnt not so so. We ate at the Shelbourne location last week and it was spectacular! This is just not good. On my trip to Vermont, I had a good amount of pizza, but Folino's really blew all the competition away. While in Burlington, we were originally trying to eat at a restaurant on Church Street, but given how busy and full of people it is, our dinner plans ended up falling through. Quickly searching for restaurants nearby and walkable, we found Folino's just immediately East. And I'm glad we picked it! Folino's has a great outdoor patio and a very spacious interior. It's also BYOB and has corkscrews you can use to open up bottles of wine. It's a great place for groups for a nice casual meal. They've got a lot of great pizza options, and their chicken wings are fantastic too. My recommendations? Truffle Pig, Fun Guy, Surf and Turf! The surf and turf especially - that was my favorite. The pizza here is fantastic. They're wood-fired thin crust pizzas, and they get the crust absolutely perfect. Everything is also so flavorful too. It is in a really popular area of Burlington though, so it can get pretty packed. Our group of 9 ended up waiting about 20 minutes to get seated, which wasn't too bad. Make sure you know though that you go up to the register to order - they don't take your order at the table. You've also got to get your own plates/utensils/water. It took us some time to realize that. I think they had some staffing issues, so they seemed a bit overwhelmed and understaffed. It was hard to get someone to the register to order, and they ran out of plates when we were trying to get ours, and it took some time for them to go back and get clean ones. Still, that didn't impact the quality of our meal - everything was delicious! Hopefully they get their staffing issues sorted out. If you're there on a good day though, enjoy it! Thought I already reviewed this place, but apparently not. Original is in Shelburne - perfect after "hiking" Philo. We stopped there after a hike back in July, leeky chicken and seafood pizza - so good. Leeks, slight kick/spice - almost like a buffalo chicken pizza, but so fresh, wood fired crust. And the seafood - the smell, the pieces of scallops with bacon worked so well. Plenty of outdoor seating. Frosted glasses so you can enjoy Fiddlehead next door. I think this is the best of the wood fired in the area, but so many good ones with American Flatbread and PIzzeria Verita. Yes there's a sister shop in Burlington right next to city market - byob. This was last week: My family decided to get some pizza at Folino's after going to City Market. Because after getting some healthy things, we were down for some bad decisions. Folino's Pizza next to a dispensary which honestly was probably their best move possible. The place was PACKED like sardines. (Which I had on pizza once and never again.... Why don't we ever argue this? Why do people actually argue to the death about pineapple on pizza and NOT HAIRY FISH??? Why are we so divided on this?!) The menu was pretty interesting and easy to follow and we picked two pizzas and wings.... We sat down.... After we paid..... after we tipped, before service was done. I would soon be able to conclude why. You can literally pick a seat anywhere and get a nice glass of water from cups that had seen better days and worse mouths. Next to the garbages.... Next to where you pick your silverware.... My son helped her restock the water. Totally fine. And then we saw.... The utensil/sauce station. Well.... It was PACKED. Garlic, parmesan, salt, pepper, hot sauce, pepper flakes. Some empty, others at various stages of full and honestly take your pick. We got one of each. Went through silverware and it was like a treasure hunt! Some had old food and stains on them and I got to see what popular picks were at this place:-) I think we made the right picks!!! While I like leftovers at home, these were not the leftovers I had a hankering for... decided to pick else wear and found some that were clean clean. Again this place is packed! Line going out the door( to be fair there may have been a few who got mixed up with the Jazz Lettuce place next door). The food sounded/smelled so delicious. We were already hungry and down for some wildfire awesomeness.... And now, we wait..... and wait.... And wait some more. Did.... Did they forget about us? I see some people eating, some people who look famished and well we decided to shoot our shot and ask people how long they had been waiting/if they ordered. Yes. Just yes. The line is moving and fast. I went to their website to see if it was like Disney with the fast passes or something... I can't even begin to tell you how bummed I am writing that "no" here. After like an hour the wings came out. And I swear to God, with seasoning wings, these kids understood the assignment. However taking a bit of the wing, the chicken fought back. The chicken skin was..... oh God, a good vet could have saved it... a while later, the Buff Chick came out and oh sweet mother of God those candied jalapeños are just the bees knees...then they bought out The Vegan Supreme.... No onions.... And she made a point to say, no onions.... So I knew immediately, there was onions somewhere... which is just fine. My mouth just tingles and gets kinda itchy. Aside from that lil fun fact about me..... those pizzas were amazing and the crust is just what you'd want. And despite a crowded kitchen with no hair nets and loose styles everywhere, there was little to no hair in the food! The pizza is definitely worth buying just not the wait unless you have the afternoon and no perishable groceries in your car (City Market) to waste.... My guess with the line out the door, they preordered online within a couple hours getting there. My husband loved that we tipped to have the home experience and got to not only wait on ourselves and clean up after our selves, he also loved that he was able to clean the table off from the previous people and the bundle of pizza tray holders from them as well. My son loved that he found a wing order he didn't want to touch at all. If you have an afternoon to waste by the water cooler and tables with an awesome pizza sheen on it... get here faster then they open. You won't be disappointed with disappointment. Buttttt, (and this is a big but here) if you want some awesome pizza with awesome flavor and amazing crust, definitely get it here. Just order online. Get all your chores and shopping done... maybe make time for a movie. After all that, it might be ready and you too can be in the line out the door.... I find myself at a lot of the usual spots when I go to Burlington, but I wanted to mix some new restaurants in on my most recent trip. This eatery is located not too far from Church St., but they have another one in nearby Shelburne too. Folino's is literally right behind the City Market, which comes in handy since this restaurant is BYOB. I ran into the market to pick up some amazing Stowe Cider beforehand! The restaurant has a very casual vibe with plenty of tables inside and a few outdoors. There are also wood burning ovens in the rear. We placed our orders at the counter and then sat down to wait for our food to be brought out to us. You grab your own plates, glasses and anything else you need. I LOVE how they have chilled glasses available for your brews! They do have a nice selection of pizzas, but I went with a basic standard cheese and tomato. This business is great! As someone from Buffalo NY who just moved into the area about a year ago, I have been searching for some good pizza. I have finally found it! The atmosphere in the restaurant is very comfortable and laid back. You do have to bring your own drinks, however I like this idea. It saves money, and the wait time for the food was very short, because the orders get placed right away. The pizza, was delicious! I usually prefer the small pepperoni, but this was a good change up. The inside of the restaurant is very small, and they don't take reservations. I was lucky enough to get in on a Saturday at 6pm, but it does get busy very fast and they don't take reservations, unless you are a party of 10 or higher. It wasn't like gum chewy , it was just right. The meatball parm was MY FAVORITE ! The meat portion was a good amount, it was just enough. The pieces of meatball was crumbled, and the chicken parm was cut into small pieces it made it more enjoyable to eat. They weren't obnoxiously big like NJ pizza is known for. The wings were PERFECT! Had a just enough of sauce, the bbq was sweet and slightly tangy. The hot wings were good but they weren't hot hot, it was slightly mild. Omg, don't even get me started with the ranch, it's clearly homemade and not store bought. It was delicious, I can't believe how good it was. Might buy a container before I leave to go back home.
