Staff was…read moreexceedingly accommodating, vibe was relaxed yet loud enough to allow a privacy bubble, and I'll definitely plan a return visit when in town. We had the Margherita, Capricciosa, Caesar salad, and the Nutella pizza and flourless cake for dessert. Kids devoured their Margherita slices and we really enjoyed the acidic, salty, roasted, crusty, chewy, fluffy, perfectly balanced notes of the artichoke, olive, tomato, and cheese Capriciossa. I know Caesar is a boring choice but sometimes the stomach wants what it wants, and this one was worth noting; I especially enjoyed the little nub of chewy pizza dough bread with it. I got it anchovy-less, because I don't love crunching on the little dudes, personally. Accessible entrance for wheels is around the back via a ramp in the alley--there's a doorbell for entry. They provided crayons and a coloring sheet for kids which always wins me over instantly, and were highly aware and educated around food allergies and their menu. 5/5 and an easy recommendation all around.

It didn't take long to identify the state's core competencies: Producing world-class cheese Perfecting brick oven pizza Aggressively curating a very specific political vibe Curiously, only two of those things are edible, and unfortunately, you can't get pizza without being reminded of the third. Also worth noting: I'm not convinced any other style of pizza exists in Vermont. If it's not artisanal, wood-fired, and served on a reclaimed barn board, it apparently doesn't make the cut. So naturally, my brain locked in and I ate pizza two nights in a row like a creature of habit. Night 1: Pizzeria Verità Parking was...aspirationally convenient. After navigating downtown Burlington, which feels like a live-action sociology thesis, I made it inside. Let's address the elephant in the room: the price. With tip, I dropped nearly $30 for what amounted to a personal-sized pepperoni pizza that politely declined to fill me up. I assume part of the cost goes toward sourcing ethically massaged tomatoes or ensuring the mozzarella had a fulfilling upbringing. Now, to be fair, the pizza was excellent. Truly. Great crust, quality ingredients, clearly crafted by someone who cares deeply about their art. But the value? That's where things get a little...Vermont. Delicious? Absolutely. Filling? Not quite. Financially efficient? Only if you measure wealth in vibes. I went in skeptical, left impressed, and still had to consider a second dinner.

As a self-proclaimed pizza connoisseur, I recently found myself in Burlington for a work trip and…read moredecided to conduct what I can only describe as a two-night pizza field study. Vermont, as best I can tell, excels at three things. Producing elite-level cheese, perfecting brick oven pizza, and fully committing to a very particular political personality. Two of those things directly benefit me, so I leaned in. One immediate observation. If you are looking for anything other than wood-fired, artisanal pizza, you may want to adjust expectations. That appears to be the law of the land. Naturally, I adapted by eating pizza two nights in a row. Night 2: Folino's Pizza The next night I pivoted and ended up at Folino's, which turned out to be the value correction I needed. I ordered the MK pizza, which comes topped with caramelized onions and impressively large pepperoni slices that do not believe in subtlety. The difference was immediate. I paid less than the night before and received a pizza that was easily twice the size. This one actually acknowledged that I had not eaten since breakfast. The caramelized onions added a great balance of sweetness, the pepperoni brought both flavor and coverage, and the overall product hit that ideal intersection of quality and quantity. This pizza was not just good, it was filling. I left satisfied and with leftovers, which later doubled as an elite cold hotel breakfast. That alone puts it in a different category. The atmosphere at Folino's was laid-back, clean, and refreshingly unpretentious. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I showed up earlier than I had said I would, fully expecting to be told to wait, but they immediately jumped into making my order without hesitation. The location has a slightly rough-around-the-edges feel, but that seems consistent with parts of Burlington. It adds a little unpredictability to the experience, which at this point felt on brand.

Well, maybe the music volume but I love the music that was being played so I don't think it's possible to have it too loud. First and most importantly the food. We got a pizzeria salad, one round pizza, one square pizza and the chicken Parmesan appetizer. None of us drink alcohol so we just had waters. Everything we had was delicious, beautiful, and well-made. We were a party of four adult males and everyone loved everything. We devoured the salad and chicken Parm. The pizzas were large and we each had at least two slices. Some people had three and we have enough so everyone can have another slice later. We spent 200 all in Taxes tip is included,. one of us felt like it was a lot with the rest of us thinking it was normal for the quality of the food. Service was great. I love the plate wear that things were served on. We were too full for dessert so I can't speak on that. When we walked in, there was jazz playing, and then some Jerry Garcia band was put on loudly. I loved it. I told the owner the only thing better than the Pizza was the music.

My boyfriend asked for espresso and they suggested three times in a row that he gave it AFTER his pizza despite him saying he'd like to start with it. Seems like a bizarre thing to push on a customer? That's just the beginning.. we got an essentially plain salad, which was about half of a hydroponically grown (or appeared exactly like one of those hydroponic lettuce heads in grocery store that comes in plastic individually wrapped containers) with a homemade basil dressing and literally no toppings. The pizza we got was a large plain margherita, salad, and an espresso and that cost $110!!!!!' Like what bro. So wild. Totally pretentious inside with like classical/jazz convo music playing and high lofted ceiling and nothing special about interior. Very bizarre scene and did not feel like a nice warm place you'd like to stay for a long dinner. Pizza was very good, but WAYYYYY over priced and can get just as good pizza for half what they charged at about 4 or 5 other spots around town. Cannot recommend this place to anyone.

The good news is the manager who in the past has been fairly unfriendly as people have noted previously seems to be making an effort to smile and be more pleasant. And then as one other reviewer mentioned, if you arrive close to 8 PM, forget it you won't get served in house or be able to order takeout even though they are open till 830. These are the reasons I'm taking away one star for a restaurant that could otherwise be fabulous. It's too bad because again the food is really wonderful.
