Pizza 44 is one of my top lunch spots in Burlington. Their food is so good, and the lunch specials are so reasonable. I prefer the booth seating (me at a couch style seat with a coffee table is a recipe for me to wear my food) and I never have an issue getting a preferred table. Their wood fired lunch sized pizza is so perfect, but I'm in love with the piadinas. Think sandwich with the pizza crust as bread. Side salad today instead of chips. It's so tasty. I've had a few flavors and the eggplant is probably my favorite. Staff is very friendly. It's an order at counter and they bring out. If you need anything they are very attentive! What caught my eye was a woman carrying two whole pizzas amongst the crowd. They looked mouth-watering. Don't let the long line deter you. Once my order was placed for two personal pies, I waiting 5 minutes before my name was called. The Go Ask Alice pesto pizza topped with arugula was divine. Slightly charred edges, deliciously chewy dough, and topped with fresh mozzarella. My partner's pepperoni was peppery and spicy, with an abundance of pepperoni and freshly grated Parmesan. Went here for a rehearsal dinner and the event space was quite nice. It was a shame the bowling tabletop machine wasn't running. We were all very interested to see how it worked. The buffet had two nice salads and a variety of pizzas. I loved seeing some Brussels sprouts in the pizza and salad. Overall, all the pizzas we tried tasted pretty good. Their crust also had the right chew and a few bubbles, which is my favorite part. The beers that they had were decent, but not noteworthy in our opinion. I don't know what the standard for pizza for Vermont is but this was a a disappointment for someone from Jersey. We ate it because it was next door to a dog friendly brewery otherwise I wouldn't have chosen it. The margherita pizza was flimsy, undercooked and yet burnt at the same time. There was way too much sauce in proportion to the cheese. The cast iron garlic bread was super disappointing. It was round pieces of leftover crust lightly coated in garlic butter. It's my first time giving anything less than a 5-star rave review, but I feel I must speak up about my extremely disappointing Pizza 44 trip last weekend. I've enjoyed ordering from Pizza 44 in the past as a South End resident, usually for board game nights in the winter. The staff are always warm and professional. But the poor timing on this order really ruined the experience. I placed my order for two pizzas and an appetizer around 4:30 PM. I received an email confirming the pickup time at 6:20 PM. I arrived at 6:15 PM to check in, and they said they were 15 minutes behind. I returned to check in at 6:35, and they told me it would be just a few more minutes (and they would text me when it was ready.) The "order is ready" came through at 7:00 PM while I was waiting outside. After standing at the pickup window behind a few disgruntled customers, I left the store at 7:07 PM, nearly an hour after the pickup time. Hungry, I opened the Mozzerella Frita to eat on the hood of my car, but it wasn't even warm. They were squishy, soggy, and cold. I would have eaten it while waiting had I been given the option. Also, the pizza (pictured) felt more rushed than my previous orders. The famous Alice had a strange undercooked texture to it so it was unusually oily and too sloppy to stay on the crust. I know every restaurant has off nights, and I respect how hard the team works to fill online orders. The employee explained that they had to turn off online orders because they were busy making pizzas for an event next door. But if this is the case in the future, then they should anticipate the high volume of pizzas when hosting a party and close the order system in advance. This visit was a huge bummer due to losing an hour of my Friday evening when I could have been notified and simply supported a take-out restaurant that wasn't swamped. Had I known there would be an extensive delay, I would not have gone to City Market beforehand. My milk and yogurts got too warm in the cooler in my car and started to sour before I could get them into my fridge. I had also hoped to order eight pizzas the following night for our school dance chaperones, but I don't have confidence in their pickup times after this. I'd be grateful if Pizza 44 could look into what went wrong with the pickup time messaging. I hope they connect with the software company to ensure customers are not misled like this. My bigger worry was that the employee didn't seem phased about the 45-minute wait, like it was a regular occurrence. Needless to say, $67 spent on this experience was not worth it. read more

But I have very mixed opinions on the food: The good Spicy Maple Wings - sticky, & worth some finger-licking. Didn't even need any dipping sauces imo. The bad Meatballs - there was a very off-putting, fine mealy or grainy texture to these meatballs, and barely any seasoning. They had some sauce & cheese on top, but it was altogether so bland, I could barely taste much of anything. I don't know what was in them, but they were not good. The ugly Quattro Formaggio Sicilian pizza - if they would have called this a giant cheesy bread, it might have set expectations better. It was a bready crust so overly puffy that melted cheese stuck onto the inside of the closed pizza box. The only suggestion of sauce was the pinkish moist bread just under the thin cheese layer. The cheddar frico'd edges were slightly crispy, but it wasn't good enough to save this. Barely any ricotta, & overall bland & flavorless. We ordered a side of tomato sauce, but dipping it in that didn't save it either. Garlic Bites were not great, but not awful either. Maybe we made a bad choice with the Sicilian, vs the regular pizza. They get our order wrong frequently, whether we order on the kiosk or face to face, and the process for pickup vs. dine-in is confusing. We've accidentally ordered for pickup when we meant to dine-in a few times now. I'm also disappointed to see them using AI generated images for their kids coloring pages. VT isn't exactly known for their pizza, so I had low expectations, but I was super impressed! The crust was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The ricotta dollops were delicious. The room decor was rustic and hip. A nice assortment of local brews that were outstanding. The service was great. But, oh my... was the pizza awesome. Wood fire grilled. My wife told me I could not touch the veggie pizza because she dis not want to share. Barbecue and the Mickster were also out of this world. What a great pizza spot! My group of 6 came here after we couldn't get into the brewery across the street, and I'm happy we pivoted in our plans! They have both takeout (order at the counter) and sit down service. Although we were initially told that the place was booked and we had to order takeout, a table became free and Pizza 44 was able to accommodate us at the table (I'm super appreciative of their flexibility). I loved the mix of classic and fun pizza options. I ordered the gluten free "Doug's Marvelous Maple" pizza with no cheese (dairy free), and it was an excellent and unique option. Opening weekend. Very clean and large space connected to Queen City Brewery. Wood-fired pizza that was some of the best I've had. Excellent and very fast service. Love their specialty pizza offerings so far, delicious. I hope they plan on doing slices in the future. Can't fn wait to go back! We really enjoyed the pizza we got here and were SO excited they were able to make dairy-free garlic knots! I also loved how they didn't up charge vegan cheese when adapting from the main menu. The menu is unique and the service was excellent. Two things the be aware of: 1) You get the most for your $ by ordering from the main menu. The veggies we added were barely a handful but the "expected" toppings were plentiful. 2) Some items are cheaper when ordering online instead of in person. The sauce was drinkable-good, the toppings were plentiful, and the crust was straddling the line of just crunchy enough and the right amount of chewy. We ordered The Tomato Pie and the Barbecue. Both pizzas were great! The former was margherita-like and they did it very well; the latter was a great twist on BBQ chicken 'za. Oh, and did I forget to mention the fried dough dessert?!? WOW! Pizza is fresh every time and the crust is cooked to a perfected thickness and crispness. I especially love their homemade ricotta cheese, which comes on a specialty pizza with pepperoni and sausage.
