Bread. Yup. Their bread was life changing. I would lobby any gluten free person to take the risk for how damn delicious is. I could have probably stopped at a quality bottle of wine + their bread and olive oil. But my sustenance needs leaned into more. I could eat a pile of their serrano ham all night. Damn that was good. The blue belly prawns were super unique and unlike anything I've had. Then the Iberico pork had the moment it rightly deserved. Perfectly cooked with all the maldon sea salt it warranted. Everything was just perfection. I cannot wait to venture back, dive back in and enjoy the fruits of Pizarro's bounty.

Very accommodating for 1 person on a Friday night without a reservation. Excellent food and wine. Nice ambiance.

I really enjoyed my dinner here on a random night where I walked in solo without a reservation and was seated immediately. the place was across the street from my hotel so it was very convenient. i got the olives to start and the cod for my main dish and it was genuinely 5/5. it came with crusted potatoes and cooked spinach that was a perfect combination. the place inside is also very cute and i sat in front of the window so i could see the passerbys. bermondsey st was my favorite street in my trip to london and the church across the street from this place was beautiful to look at as well.

Smart tapas, flatteringly dim lighting, sophisticated ambience, with the option to book a private room. We were dining in such a room, and I can assure you that we were well looked after. We had a set menu of which we chose the main course in advance with set starters and pudding. Starters were varied, from bruschetta to cheesy mushrooms in batter. I enjoyed them. Esp the mushrooms. As for the mains, I remembered, too late, some advice from a chef acquaintance: never order steak as a large group (i.e. more than four). How true. In our party of 10, the majority of us ordered steak and I for one was disappointed by the chewiness. Dessert was choc mousse with a shortbread. This wasn't too sweet, which I appreciated, but it also wasn't exceptional. And the large shortbread plonked in was rather heavy after such a big meal. All in all? The food gets 3/5, ambience and service 5/5. Averaging a solid 4/5.

    Rustic ambience.

I live right up the street, so walk by Pizzaro almost daily. It's generally packed Friday and Saturday. But, hungry and not wanting to cook, we wandered down Bermondsey Street and were happy to finally see some space here on Sunday. We were seated near the front window right away. It's a nice, rustic interior, and I liked the seating along the front. Prime people watching. It's Spanish cuisine, so the menu features some decent seafood options amongst the traditional ham, etc. We enjoyed the chorizo starter and then shared the steak and pork rib mains. In retrospect it was a little (lot) meat heavy but I really wasn't expecting the portions to be as big as they were. They are very generous to say the least. If I went back I'd probably prefer to share a few of the starters and sides, as they looked really good and the mains were pretty heavy. We skipped dessert but the pineapple option looked really delicious. Might have to come back for that. It was a nice, simple dinner. Not too pricey, and the place looks like it would be a fun night for a birthday dinner with a larger group. The wine list was great. I'm in the 'hood so I'll be back.

I love how high end food this place is minus the uptight (excuse my French) wank a lot of white table clothed places are. Firstly, the wine list is pretty good and the staff seem to know a lo about it. Would love to see a couple more sherries but that's because I'm sherry obsessed Secondly, the menu is great and the serves are pretty generous. I saw some reviews complaining they were still hungry but that says to me bad ordering. First rule of thumb when hungry at tapas: pain de tomate. (Tomato bread). Delicious, stomach lining, delicious. I would definitely share all of this food and it's perfect to do so between four per plate. Lots of seafood options, colourful veg options and of course excellent cheese and charcuterie. We asked the waiter his picks and he gave us excellent recommendations, which brings me to point three: staff are great. You can tell they enjoy working there. And lastly, the room set up works well for big groups, small groups, successful tinder dates. Mmmm jamon.

Amazing ambiance, staff, food and local! I have friends who live in this new hip neighborhood and this is one of three restaurants the owner has there on this street... By far my favorite! A must for Sunday hangover food - Pork Burger all the way!

Pork, no really, pork not beef, tasted just like a tender beef steak

On my way to Pizarro I walked past Jose, the sister tapas bar to this place, which was packed to the brim! I was so glad we made a booking for Pizarro instead. When we arrived in the evening the place only had a few guests seated but it soon filled up. The waitress was quite friendly in explaining the menu and the specials, and we were off! Starter: We ordered the octopus, which was basically a gigantic tentacle on your plate. Very fresh and tasty. Our party also ordered jamon and we watched them slice it at the bar, amazing to watch! It was very delicious indeed....wish I was in Spain and could stuff my face full of these!! The highlight of the meal was the head of hake. It came in a huge oven dish and don't be deceived by the name of the dish. This could easily feed two people as it was shared between the table. The garlic oil was just right, not too greasy. The fish melted in my mouth and the potatoes were nice (but not amazing). We also had a dish which our party said was pork but looked more like beef steak! They were all complimenting on how soft the inside was and how crunchy the outside, although I do not think it was anything too special. Near the end of our meal a male staff came over and asked us how we were doing and even took the time to explain our dessert to us (sorry, don't remember what it was called but it was puzzling us what we were eating). This was a very nice touch. Overall it was a nice place for gatherings and I would bring friends here to experience the head of hake!

Hey initially brought a drinks menu to us when we are waiting in the queue but they didn't come to take our order until we got our table so I don't see the point. We ordered a wine and a beer. Wine tasted worse than most wine we have in other restaurants and the beer is with a thick foam and small glass.. The food is alright but with the service and portion, I didn't think we get our money's worth.

I will say that the app - City Mapper - is worth installing on your phone. Oh, but when you're travelling out of the US, you don't want to pay the high roaming charges. Then I say, go to the "airalo" website and see if what they offer might meet your needs, and if it does, install it too. Most newer phones allow you to install electronic SIMs. If you follow the instructions very carefully, you can set your phone up to use this second line for local data access and that will allow City Mapper to run for you while you roam around. I know that I'm sounding like a commercial but that's how much I liked using the app. While I didn't always know which direction I was facing, by watching the app as I moved, I could see if I was heading toward or away from my target. Okay, back to Jose. We walked by this place several times, both during the day and at night. They always had guests, especially at night when the crowd seemed to spill out of the restaurant to the outside tables and surrounding area. People looked happy as they indulged in their food and wine. We stopped once and read the menu. It's quite small and written on a chalkboard. It looks like every now and then, they erase something and write something else up. Having been to Barcelona, we weren't particularly impressed with the menu and didn't plan on dining there. Until I read the reviews. And looked at their website and learned about Jose Pizzaro, chef, owner of six restaurants in London and one in Abu Dhabi, author of six cookbooks, a regular on BBC cooking shows AND that the Tapas Bar Jose is mentioned as a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide. Service was wonderful. It was cool watching Chef prepare our food. The Pan con Tomate was so simple and yet so delicious. A slice of bread, toasted, rubbed with garlic, rubbed roughly with a ripe tomato, slightly salted and drizzled with olive oil. I could eat that every single day and LOSE WEIGHT. The Bermondsey Bomba was like a giant Porto Bakery (forgive me Jose) Potato Ball with more meat in a spicy sauce placed on top of a bed of aioli with a dollop of seasoned tomato paste on top. I could eat these every single day and GAIN WEIGHT. The Boquerones were heavenly. The Clams with Garlic and Parsley, devine. And the Patatas Bravas...come on man, they're just potatoes! Crispy on the outside, soft and warming on the inside. Once again, the aioli and seasoned tomato paste just brings it all together. Service was warm and friendly. They were kind enough to let us order in rounds so we could gauge how much to order. Honestly, we had five dishes and were stuffed. Pictures to follow.

It's worth seeking out if you enjoy authentic Spanish Jamon, delicious drinks and friendly staff. We lucked out with a table right at the ham counter and so we able to watch the masters carve perfect slivers of ham, and create delicious dishes in a tiny kitchen space. We were told that all their ingredients come from Spain and you'll taste the quality for sure. We started with pan con tomate which is served deconstructed. Run the bread with garlic, scoop on the fresh tomato purée, and then add olive oil and salt - delicious! We also tried beautifully presented cheese & charcuterie plates, giant garlicky prawns, albondigas and of course, delicious patatas bravas. Of course, you'll want to wash it all down with a crisp Estrellas beer, or a reasonably priced cava. My husband was happy to avail himself of a few glasses of Catalonian vermut. Staff was as friendly as could be, and prices are very fair. It's a small place so plan ahead & reserve. They take 'em, so you best make 'em!

When you open them, you can convince yourself you're in Madrid. Spanish music poured out of the speakers (except at one point when the bartender accidentally played the first few bars of AC/DC's Back in Black), hams hung everywhere and people stood around with small glasses that they filled either from small pitchers of beer or bottles of wine. I split a plate of ham, expertly sliced from the back of the room, and washed it down with a glass of Verdejo. Three pieces of pan con tomate were on the plate as well and when I bit into one of them I remarked that it was so much better than the onces I've had recently in London. I then realized that those weren't even Bar Tozio's best version of the simple dish, they were just standard accompaniments that are served with the ham. When ordered from the menu, you are presented with a wooden plate on which sits a clove of garlic, a small bottle of olive oil, a bowl of pureed tomatos and some toast. You then put everything together and pat yourself on the back for creating such an amazing snack. We also had the chipirones, which were bathed in a fresh sherry and garlic sauce, but a little too fishy for me. And dessert! Oh, dessert... I am a cheese plate kind of girl without much of a sweet tooth, but my husband ordered the Manzanilla and melon sorbet with crispy Teruel ham and I couldn't stop eating it. He thought the ham was a bit too salty which was perfect because I didn't feel bad about eating much more than half. Unfortunately I think it may have been a special for World Sherry Day (which funnily spans an entire week), but I am hoping it will be printed on the meny again and again. The staff was friendly and helpful, the sherries were sublime and the food was wonderful. I'm already planning my return.

We stumbled in on a whim, just looking for a good place to grab a bite to eat for dinner, and found a restaurant where everything was incredible. You cannot go wrong. The Patas bravas was really good, though simple. It was presented in a really cool way, with a dipping sauce on the side. The spinach croquettes were so tasty and cheesy. The yellowtail sashimi was really refreshing. The braised short rib was INCREDIBLE- so tender and flavorful. With great onion rings. The best thing we ate, by far, was the grilled octopus. It was perfectly tender and crispy at the same time. It had such good flavor and such a good sauce. It was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn't have full air conditioning--only a few lucky seats are positioned near the AC unit. We even brought portable fans, which ended up being necessary as the sun set directly into the restaurant's glass frontage, heating things up quickly. We ordered a broad selection of tapas: octopus, the salmon-wrapped sweet potato crisp, fennel salad, pork belly, spinach balls, and the bravas potatoes. The food was hit and miss. The pork belly was the highlight--flavorful and tender with a sweet glaze. However, other dishes fell flat. The fennel salad surprisingly came with canned pineapple, the spinach balls tasted like they were made with frozen spinach, and the bravas potatoes were essentially frozen fries--not what you'd expect from a place with this kind of setting and pricing. Service started out fine but slowed down significantly over the course of the meal. A couple of our dishes were forgotten entirely, and the heat made the wait feel even longer. Overall, Bravas Tapas had its moments, but between the uneven food quality, heat, and spotty service, it left us more frustrated than satisfied. It's a beautiful spot with potential, but there's room for improvement--especially when it comes to consistency and comfort.

I'm a big fan of tapas, and Camino did not disappoint. There are several locations across London, and this one is large, lively, and full of great energy -- the kind of place that immediately puts you in a good mood. We started with calamari and Iberico ham croquetas, both absolute perfection -- crisp on the outside and creamy inside. The patatas bravas were outstanding as well, with just the right balance of spice and crunch. We also shared the rib-eye steak, dry-aged for 21 days and seasoned with rosemary and pepper, served alongside confit piquillo peppers and a fresh salad. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. The service was excellent -- friendly, efficient, and perfectly timed -- and the food arrived at a relaxed, steady pace. If you're looking for vibrant Spanish food in London, Camino is a terrific choice. With several locations around the city, there's probably one not far from you.

In any case, I think the quote still works perfectly when referring to Camino's creations. Camino had some smash hits, some items that were just "ok", and service that left a bit to be desired, but wasn't horrible. The service: We asked our server many questions about the menu and he didn't have an answer for any of them. He didn't seem to have much knowledge about the items, nor about how they were prepared or how they tasted. He was attentive, but mostly just for clearing plates and keeping our water carafe filled. We ended up just ordering things and hoping for the best. Our favorite menu items: --Presa Iberica £11.75 - "Our signature shoulder of Ibérico pig served medium rare, with creamy Ibérico rice." The rice was creamy and luxurious. The pork was savory and juicy. This plate is a winner! --Escalivada £6.75 - "Grilled sourdough bread with roasted aubergine, red pepper and onion." We were so nicely surprised by these veggie toasts! They were extremely flavorful and unique! --Baby Squid £7.50 - "Crispy squid with alioli and lemon." These fried morsels weren't greasy at all, and the alioli was a perfect sauce to compliment it's flavor. We also had: --Payoyo £5.75 - "Cured goats' cheese with fig and almond slice." --Charcuteria Platter £6.75 - "Selection of premium Spanish sliced cured sausages." --Olives (comlimentary) - "marinated in lemon and rosemary." Don't miss: Maeloc 4% £4.80 - "Galician strawberry cider. Gluten-free and a dry finish." --This was so crisp and delicious!! Definitely worth a stop during a busy day of sightseeing. It's also fairly near Shakespeare's Globe!
