I used to rent from them all the time. Not anymore. We recently rented a tractor. It had bald tires from the beginning. Then when one of the tires went flat, a mechanic from another shop came and confirmed that it was because there was a patch that had gone bad. Piva refused to cover the cost of a new tire, charging us $400 to replace their bald tire! This was absolutely ridiculous. Never going to use them again. Stay away! read more

I recently went there to pickup some rock for some major yard work i am doing at home. This lovely gentleman named Cooper helped me out, he loaded my truck efficiently and quickly. All the while i was talking to him he was funny and so nice! i have never seen him there before, however so i am thinking he is new! PIVA did a great job picking. their staff. I loaded my 15 large Az river rocks myself into my car and went to pay and found out I could not buy them by the piece and had to go back and unload them myself. So this 71 yr old woman unloaded them and went to Rock and Block and for $10.00 I got my rocks and slate for a landscaping project. Rock and block know customer service! read more

Two chainsaws, first one the muffler came flying off after about 30 minutes. Drive back and get second chainsaw. Working overhead Oak branches about 3-5" and the chain is dull ASF on this one. Spent 10 minutes on four branches just burning them up. I'm Done With It. Returned. Minimum charge of three hours. Really Jim? accuse me of dipping into the dirt making the chain is dull?!? On overhead oak? I'm not a professional, but not an idiot either. Total work time 45 minutes. Total travel time, 45 minutes. Poor maintenance. Decidedly poor customer service. Not my fault you have crap maintenance. But you got your 3 hour minimum $48 right? And lost year's worth of future business. read more

We've used Piva rental on multiple occasions and have always been impressed. Jim has been a mainstay of the Ramona community for years and donates his time and resources to numerous committees and charitable endeavors without hesitation. Piva Equipment Services is closed on Sundays so if you get a rental on Saturday you basically get a free day of use before having to return on Monday. It's a great benefit that we've personally utilized on multiple occasions. The Piva customer service though is really what sets the place apart from other similar rental businesses in Ramona, Poway or Escondido. Jim and his wife Melanie are just genuinely nice people who CARE about their customers and it's been an honor to get to know them socially and earn their friendship. I would not recommend renting equipment from this company. I spoke with Debbie and was told I would receive a call back on a Wednesday. She also mentioned she would be off and someone else would contact me. I never received one phone call on Wednesday or Thursday. I called into the office on Friday and spoke with Jim. He started to laugh and stated I was taken off the schedule because my phone number was not valid or did not have a voicemail. I called every rental place in Escondido and Ramona. Everyone charge the same amount give or take a few dollars, but what sealed the deal with Piva was their customer service. They were so genuine and just plain nice. This was the type of service that you don't see too often, but when you get it you feel all warm and fuzzy. Be careful before dropping anything to fix in this place! I left my $120 lawn mower (one year old) there to check why it was not starting, they told me they were busy and would call me to let me know the problem in about 2 weeks, which was fine. After almost 3 weeks I get a call saying the mower was fixed, it had a clogged carburetor, no parts were broken, and that my bill was $70 dollars??? First of all, I would have never authorized to do the service, and second how can it cost $70 to clean a mower carburetor?? I feel ripped off, and certainly the last time I go there for anything. They have plenty of competition around, I would think that prices is something they care about, I'm sure customers do. read more

If your from Ramona your better off going some place else to get your small engine equipment repaired. Here's a few reasons why they are a rip off. I brought two chain saws in to have them cleaned up, chains sharpened and repair what ever may need attention. They were very busy and said it would be 7-10 days. OK that's fine. 3 weeks later I go back because I haven't heard from them, to find out that one saw had a worn chain tensioner that they replaced without my consent. Now if the tensioner was real bad I would have paid to have it replace but it wasn't. So they changed the fuel in both saws and couldn't get one of them to run. The nice lady behind the counter said she would get back to me on a price for a new carburetor. A week later no phone call. So I go in to find out what's going on to get a quote of $115 for a new carburetor. I'm glad I didn't authorize this. I took the saws home cleaned the gel from the carburetor and it runs just perfect. I can do all these repairs myself but I brought these pieces of equipment to a local shop to support my community and to save myself some time. After spending $119.90 to have the fuel changed and my blades sharpened, a part changed that needed to be replace. If this was an experienced small eng shop they would have first cleaned the carburetor or used a rebuild kit to save the costumer some money instead let's find the easiest most expensive way to take care of them. I recommend to never bring your equipment here or rent any equipment here as they are much more expensive to rent from the other two rentals in town. I could add a few other things also but I think you get the jest of service you will get from Piva.......... read more

Rented a high weed mower with trailer on Saturday to take advantage of the free Sunday. Service was great. They showed me how to start and operate the mower and how to get it on the trailer again when I was finished. Everyone was really friendly and helpful, and the mower was in great condition and worked perfectly. read more

Let me start with i have rented from 3 yards here in Ramona. I have had issues with equipment breaking from each of them. It's rental equipment after all, it's going to break. How the shops deal with it is the critical part. Jim and his wife run an honest owner operated Establishment in Ramona. Here are 3 examples: #1 I Rented a trencher, which was working great and then BANG! The motor blew up on a Sunday on a long weekend. They were closed on that Monday too, but another shop wasn't. So I rented a 2nd trencher from the other shop. Before I left the kid spent a hour trying to fixing some things before I moved him out of the way to fix it for him, he was burning my daylight. That trencher also broke while I was using it and I spent several hours fixing it because I wasn't calling that kid again. The job was done and now it was time to see how each dealt shop with their broken trencher problems. Piva's had a blown motor and was a much nicer trencher to use and Jim said we'll only charge you the 3 hr minimum even though you used it for more than 1/2 the day and gave me a 10% discount on my next rental. The other shop had a broken throttle lever and broken pull rope that i had to keep repairing all day, and they said 'wow sorry for all the problems' and charged me the same 3 hr minimum. Jim's trencher got twice the work done in the same amount of time and he had to replace a blown motor and gave me an additional 10% discount. #2 Rented Jim's mini excavator and it threw a track 1/2 way up the side of the hill. Took me a couple hours to put it back on (needing the motor on to work the track back on and running the hour meter the whole time). I had to get my trench dug and that meant i ran the meter over by about 1.2 hrs. When he picked it up the next day he said that I was over on the hours and that he would have to charge me the 3 hr minimum for the 2nd day (all shops do this). When I explain the track situation he said oh then don't worry about it. He had no way to prove if I was telling the truth or not. He didn't even hesitate. He just accepted I was telling the truth. I was totally expecting a long discussion and some compromise and nothing. Just an honest shop working with honest customers. #3 I rented his skip loader with the added insurance but no rental places insure tires and I knew that. I got a flat tire driving his skiploader back. He took time away from his job to leave the office and picked me up and gave me a ride back to my truck, said he could charge me to repair it or he could loan me the tools to change the tire and tell me where to get the tire repaired either way the repairs were on me but one way would save me his labor. I took the free way(pun intended). Unfortunately because I didn't notice the tire was flat immediately and had drove it on the pavement for a few 100 feet, the tire had significant side wall damage and was not repairable. A new tire was $200. I paid the $200 but Jim called the tire shop to ask them how much life was left on the tire and pro rated it. He refunded me 80%. He didn't have to do that and we both knew I was on the hook because it wasn't covered by insurance. We discussed it but he insisted on a refund of 80% I paid my rental rate plus the 20% for the tire and he didn't charge me for anything else, his time, the ride, the tools, late charge because the skip loader was 4hrs late, notta. I'm VERY HAPPY! They are very honest and very fare. I would like everyone to use Piva's to keep good honest home town shops in business for many years so I can have the best shop to rent from. read more
