Ryder Truck Rental in Escondido came through for us. They had one moving truck left on a busy Saturday and held it for us when I called and explained our situation. Kelsey was friendly, helpful, competent and had us back on track for moving day in no time flat! Pros: Great customer service, clean trucks that are well-maintained, competitive rates, convenient location, last-minute availability of trucks (in our case!) Neutral: We had a 26' foot truck and that thing was a BEAST to drive. We had a difficult time driving it through our storage unit complex to pick up our stuff... I'm seeing a fair amount of 1-star reviews, and right away I can see I'll probably join them!…read more Similar to how it went for a couple of the other reviewers, some dip shit called me the day before pick-up to tell me that although I reserved a 12' truck in Oceanside, I'd have to go to Escondido and that, by the way, I'd be getting a 16-footer instead. More inconvenienced by the additional 40 minutes of round trip driving than the excess size, I agreed. Scheduled pick-up time was 9:00am. Good thing I arrived early, because there is NOWHERE to legally park. The guy behind the counter even advised me to just "park in the red. No one will give you a ticket." Yeah, and the one time a traffic cop does come by, I wonder how I'd fare telling him or her, "the guy at Budget said it was cool!" The bad thing about showing up early was that despite the posted business hours, the scofflaw who advised me to park in the fire lane didn't open the shop until 9:20am. He came in all sweaty and disheveled, clutching a vape and his phone. Did I mention I had a 3-week old baby with me? It's not too relevant to the way your experience might go, should you fail to heed my warnings, but it definitely added to my umbrage. I pretty much typed everything above this line while I waited. I'm back at home now and have the truck. After talking with the father of the guy who owns the franchise, I was tempted to give them 3-stars, despite some of the inadequacies. The dad was a gentleman! However, upon a more thorough examination of the cab, I found two cigarette butts and generally grimy upholstery. There were also some pretty prominent stains and scratches in the cargo area. Hopefully they don't charge me for that stuff (I should have done a more thorough inspection before accepting the truck, but c'mon, I've never done this before!). I sort of fear posting this before I return the truck, lest reprisals cause these people to try to f*ck me when I return the truck, but the people have a right to know what they're getting into! I'll let you know how it goes! Who knows? Maybe service on the other end will prove to be fantastic and I'll end up revising my post and increasing the number of stars!

She reserved it online. My response was oh no! Why didn't you get U-Haul. I was being somewhat sarcastic but I have always rented from U-Haul no issues. Wow was I right!!! Budget/Avis was the worst experience I've ever had with any company. The guy at the budget counter had a long beard. If you get him get ready for anything wrong being deflected and blamed on you as the customer. He told my girlfriend sorry we don't have the truck you reserved. That sucked but then he said we have a truck with a lift gate (when moving that sucks!) luckily I know how to use a lift gate. He then said the problem is you have to bring the truck back to us in Escondido. Our reservation was one way to drop in as a Diego. He said he would cover the miles but didn't offer to cover the extra gas. We asked and he said no. But it was double the trip. I left to get my ID. He proceeded to tell my girlfriend that she was being such and inconvenience and that he can just cancel her reservation. This would leave us with no truck to live on living day. In all my years I've never heard of that before. Customer service agent telling someone they are an inconvenience due to the company not having the correct order or equipment. CRAZY!! You can't make this shit up. We took the truck. My girlfriend spent 2 hours wheel we were driving and moving getting bounced from every department on the phone. Everyone telling her it was someone else's fault. Here's the kicker!! We did what they asked and returned the truck to Escondido. Their loss prevention department called her today and said they are charging her a no. Return fee because she returned the truck to Escondido. WTF!?? Never rent a moving truck from this place. Terrible business model and customer service. The customer service phone agents are all outsourced in different countries. It's a mess!! I'd mark 0 stars but Yelp won't let me!! Stay away from this Esco location and budget as a whole.

I had a lot of questions and he was polite through it all. After I made the reservation Uhaul.com texted a link to me what the Res. # was, to use if I needed to change or cancel. A week later I bought a cargo trailer so I could have a couple of weeks to load, and not have to load the day uhaul would provide it. The day I purchased the trailer, I used the link to cancel my reservation, and got a cancellation verification. Unfortunately the company never informed Willie. 3 days went by and I decided I better let Willie know just in case. I phoned him today, sure enough he had not been informed. He knows now, I am disappointed he was not informed by Uhaul.com!
