Closing in on 20 years old, The Pitt Stop has terrific service, a quality breakfast and lunch menu and fresh pie daily. The racing memorabilia is pretty cool; but really it's all about the diner vibe and those daily specials. We had been to a specialty animal clinic to drop off our sweet kitty for dental surgery and were in need of solace and breakfast. We were also in west Arlington, not our usual stomping grounds. There were maybe some sexier sleeker breakfast choices listed in Yelp; but The Pitt Stop in Kennedale, down the road, spoke to us. I had been to the races there years ago; but the neighborhoods had changed! Not the Pitt Stop though, I'm guessing. The building looks to be from the 40's, so hard to say. We were greeted and seated and handed a menu right away. I ordered a traditional breakfast with buttermilk pancakes and sausage patties. I also asked for a side of spicy homemade salsa for my crispy hashbrowns and over easy eggs. It's called The Pitt Stop and it's $7.99. My husband was excited about the Build your Own breakfast tacos. He chose chorizo, egg, cheese and jalapeño in flour tortillas served with salsa on the side. $1.99 each. We chatted, drinking our coffee, checking out the racing memorabilia and the other diners who were doing the same thing! Some were there early, waiting for the daily lunch special - the goulash! Our breakfast came out steaming hot and everything was delicious. My pancakes were giant, fluffy and tender. The eggs were perfect and that homemade salsa - yes, please! My husband's tacos all but disappeared! Everything was clean, all surfaces and areas where food was served. There was a refrigerator ready with the day's pie. Everyone was lovely and helpful. On another note, I fractured my trochanter last year and had a hip replacement. It's taken me a year to recover and made me acutely aware of how some restaurant bathrooms just aren't up to snuff for ADA standards. I thinks it's fair to say that the bathrooms here need updating; but I suspect they have an exemption. Occasionally you run across an old restaurant or old building which has not been brought up to ADA standards, or even close. The Pitt Stop restrooms for someone who uses a W/C, walker or even a cane will be problematic getting into, using the toilet and getting out of without assistance. They are basically a small closet. The bars inside would be only of help to someone with strength and the toilet is extremely low. Just FYI. We will be back though another day for lunch and pie when we come back to the clinic soon. Wow! What a wonderful find! We literally moved to the area three days ago. While driving around, we saw this little pitstop on the corner of the road near our house. We stopped by around 12:30 on Thursday and it was popping and buzzing! I love the way we were greeted - "Hiwdy! How 'bout that table over there?!" Lots of friendly locals and old timers. It felt . . . Cozy. Shelly greeted and served us amidst a busy dining room! Classic waitressing at its best . . . 1 Million things all at once! Our burgers were great - but - THOSE ONION RINGS!!! my favorite part of the visit. We got a German chocolate pecan pie to go. Can't wait to try it! We most definitely will be back!! read more

We have been to the Pitt Stop many times before and we LOVE it. Brittany was our server this time. She was amazing, super attentive and so nice/fun. The Pitt Stop is a typical small town diner with your local "chit-chat" and rural buzz. We love the vibe. It's nice to go to a smaller place with warm people and great service. This time we had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs and The Pitt Stop Breakfast. All was very good, as usual. Lots of coffee and creamer!! Just the way we like it! Plus, the prices are awesome!!! Everyone needs to go by the Pitt Stop at least once. You will be hooked. We have also been at lunch. It is SO good and they have great ranch dressing. That's always a plus for me. Got to bring my in-laws who's visiting from California for brunch and they loved it! My father in-laws loves the nostalgic decor within the dining room. The food and service is always top notch and very hearty! I noticed our server even cut this one lady's meal for her because she's was j able to do it for herself. Food is excellent and I've eaten here about 5 times since my move to the neighborhood. I took off one star due to their surcharge of $0.72 if one uses a debit or credit card. From my understanding, merchants are not allowed to surcharge a debit card. The pancakes and patty sausage are to die for--they taste almost like the old recipe at Paris Coffee Shop in Fort Worth. I was shocked that Paris Coffee Shop did away with the old recipe but I'm happy now that I've found the same ones at Pitt Stop Cafe. Prices are good. Me and wife visited the Pitt Stop for breakfast today 3/1 2022. The service was quick and friendly. The food was nice and warm and delicious. I didn't have a lot of money but what I order " build your own breakfast taco with a side of sausage. My wife had French toast with sausage. The food was delicious and the refill of coffee was great. I didn't have to look for someone to refill my mug. But the best part about this visit is that I didn't brake the bank. We will truly be back. We are new to Kennedale. Thank you for breakfast. I didn't order food, so I can't review that aspect of The Pitt Stop Cafe. Why write a review, you ask? Because this place has more atmosphere than the most pretentiously designed hipster eateries on Magnolia or in Bishop Arts. If you want home cooked southern diner food, personality, and a restaurant that screams story in every booth, this is your place. My first five star review for atmosphere alone. I pulled into the parking lot in my 350z and felt like the little rice burner among a crowd of American made pickups and SUVs. Walking inside the Pitt Stop is like entering a movie set if you are a Connecticut Yankee like me. The interior is a cluttery but homey hodgepodge of racing memorabilia, including a life-sized decal of Dale Earnhardt on a glass door by the cashier. I asked the hostess/cashier, who is also the daughter of the owners (of course), and she told me that one entire wall is devoted to her mom's drag racing career. Pretty badass. She greeted everyone who came in by name, sparring playfully with customers. Pitt is a family name, thus "Pitt Stop Cafe". But it seems that everyone who comes here is part of the family. I only drank coffee as I was waiting for a nearby auto body shop to open. The server kept me warmed up, coming by every 5-10 minutes with a smile. When I was cashing out, the cashier asked me with a twinkling eye, "So, what brings you to this side of town?" Haha, yes I stuck out in my Express jeans and zippered sweater. I gave a last nod to life-sized Dale Earnhardt and made my way back to my rice burner, leaving Kennedale gold in my uptown dust. read more

An old-style greasy spoon. If you've never been, the whole place is decorated with drag racing memorabilia. That was kind of cool. But, my dad and I were sat off to the side and I think our waitress kept forgetting about us. Add in that the hashbrowns seemed like they were cooked at too cool of a temperature and soaked up some grease, the sausage was slightly overdone, I'm not sure if that was REALLY two eggs, and the gravy was too salty...... I doubt I'll be back. Nothing was "oh my, I'm not going to eat this!" But, there are other places with better food. So, I'll probably pick one of them next time. read more

I honestly don't understand why people rant and rave about this place. From the second I walked in I noticed the place looked grimy and dirty. And I thought, well the food must've good- I'll take my seat and order. I ordered a 2 egg breakfast with busquits and gravy, ham, and hash browns. My husband ordered huevos rancheros. His looked disgusting! First of all it was served in a divided plastic plate that resembled a jailhouse tray. The beans looked like they had been cooked a week earlier. My husband barely ate anything off of his plate- poor guy! My bus quit was burned so I asked for another one- and it was actually the best thing on the table- very good and tasted home made and fresh! The gravy though- it was straight from a can- yuck!!! My eggs had shells in them, ham was super salty, and hash browns were cold! So will I go again- No way!!!!! read more
