The food is great, service leaves a lot to be desired. It used to be great. We came in about 530 on a Sunday. It was not busy at all. We were waiting in the service line for 20 minutes before anybody greeted us asked if they could help or said anything. The line started backing up behind us about five people. When we finally got up to pay, I asked the man if they were shorthanded. He looked at me and rudely said "no why". I said that we had been waiting a long time. The area where they usually show what foods they have is now blue caked. We didn't see a menu. No one spoke to us until we were almost to the cashier. Now you order from the cashier (from memory), do it is very slow! My tomato soup and Caesar salad were as Usual. My husband ordered the new corn chowder as they didn't have broccoli cheddar. It was not even warm. He tried to order half of a ham and cheese croissant. They said they couldn't cut it in half, that it would fall apart, so he had to order a full one. The croissant was dry and guess what-it was cut in half!! We couldn't find the bread they used to have, so we asked. Overall, I think la Madeleine is a restaurant you can skip if you're scoping out a new restaurant to try. I have eaten there several times but only because my mother's workplace gives out gift cards here as prizes. If my family didn't have gift cards here, we wouldn't eat here. I'll start with the food. Pictured below is what we ate on this most recent trip. The French onion soup was alright, but I personally thought it was much too salty. The chicken riviera sandwich was passable but quite bland. The pesto pasta with roasted shrimp was, again, passable but also quite bland. The sea salt baguette was good and was the best part of the meal. We took a fruit tart to-go, and that was good. In the past, I have tried the chocolate tart, lemon tart, and the sacher torte parfait, all of which were sweet and pleasant. Next, the service. The employees were pleasant, but the way the restaurant is set up is confusing. You order before seating yourself. It wasn't really clear, and it's also confusing if/when you tip. I've been going to this La Madeleine by the parks mall since I was a kid. This restaurant has always had a special place in my heart. First off, the atmosphere is just amazing. It's cozy, rustic, and romantic. The place really feels like a French cafe! Everything is always very organized and clean, and tables are cleared very quickly here. The staff at La Madeleine are very friendly and always have great suggestions in regards to their food and different ways to try it. I am a huge fan of their Sacher chocolate cake and their fruit tarts. I can't go to La Madeleine without grabbing at least one slice! I also just adore their Cesar salads. I know that seems a little simple but they do a great job with them and it's always a go-to for me! Overall, I love this place but it is a little pricey. I visited on Labor Day and it was short staffed so the wait on food was a longer by a few minutes. Nothing major though. This location has a pretty good staff and cooks as well so I like coming here. I ordered the Balsamic salmon with rice and broccoli which also comes with a salted baguette. As an appetizer we ordered the quiche Florentine which was soft and creamy. The woman working replied, "No I don't think so" and I said is there anyone that knows for certain or has a list of ingredients because we have an egg allergy. I asked her to check the box list of ingredients, only to find out that they do actually contain eggs. Had I not been persistent, we could have had an allergic reaction in the restaurant. AVOID THIS PLACE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES. 2. The "nutella croissant" had no Nutella inside, so it's basically the same as the butter croissant - frozen as well. 3. My sandwich came out incorrect, and I had asked the short woman that looks like an angry troll (if you've been here, you know who) if she could have it fixed please. She argued and told me my sandwich looked normal; it didn't have any of right ingredients per the menu. She stormed off to the counter after rolling her eyes at me. She didn't know I followed her because I thought she would spit in my food. Sure enough she was talking s*** to her coworker who actually stopped her when she noticed my presence! They told me to wait for my sandwich at my seat multiple times, but I wanted to stay on watch and make sure no foul play was involved since they were so pressed for me to walk away. Let me add - there's 3 different ordering counters and 2 registers for paying, all with different lines. If you want a sandwich and bakery item for example, you must wait in 2 separate lines and pay 2 separate times! Complete chaos! I love that there's a la Madeleine close by. I stopped by here to pick up some soup and a pastry. I wasn't sure what to order and upon the lady at the front's suggestion, I tried to mushroom soup. I picked up the palmier as well. The soup came out quickly and tasted delicious. The palmier was cold and tasted like it had been there for a couple of hours. I recommend warming up the desserts or asking them if they can do that. I was disappointed that the soup didn't come with a baguette, however I'm not sure if they normally do. I'm not much of a chain restaurant goer, but I find myself returning to La Madeleine again and again. The homey French cafe atmosphere, especially on a cold day, is warm and inviting. Service is always friendly. Though the French greetings can seem a little forced, they are always delivered with a smile. The quality of the food is high, and La Madeleine has done a good job of avoiding a cookie cutter experience at their stores. If you like French onion soup, I've never tasted better than here. I will often meet a friend at La Madeline for coffee instead of Starbucks because I prefer the atmosphere, and they provide a really great refillable cup of coffee for under $3 and throw in assorted bread and jams at no extra charge. Wifi is also available. My only minor gripe is that occasionally the staff member who's working checkout is also making salads, which can cause really long wait for those of us who may be ordering pre-cooked food or when I'm just there for coffee. Also, they've recently remodeled the countertops in my local location with a white granite which collides awkwardly with the French cottage feel of the room. Came in at 6:30pm and the place is not busy at all. No long lines, only 2 people in front of us. I got a salad and my husband and daughter decide they want breakfast for dinner. Of course they make my salad on the spot. I ask the girl for a Chicken Caesar Salad, she doesn't put chicken on it. So I have to ask again for chicken. Not a big deal. Same girl checks people out. By 7pm I've finished my salad and we are still waiting on my family's food. We figure it takes a while to cook the bacon. She says "but this is for table number 9" which is we had the number 9 on our table. Turns out the lady who checked us out assigned the number 9 to the couple before us but then gave us the table number (spoon with #9) for our order, hence the mixup. The lady figures out which table it belongs to, now she goes back and we are left sitting again with no food. I notice that same couple get up and leave. So at this point it's 7:05 and no food. I go back and tell them about the table number mixup. She then asks me whether or not we got our food, I said we don't have food. So she goes to check and looks like they haven't even made it. ****REMEMBER THIS PLACE IS DEAD, barely any people dining Finally food comes out and all they gave my daughter is one scrambled egg and small cup of fruit. Her order is supposed to be scrambled eggs, fruit and bacon. So I asked her and she says "oh yea". She leaves and comes back with bacon. Never apologizes for anything.
