This is by far the best breakfast in town! We were sat immediately (on a saturday morning!). Our server was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and quick. The food came out with little wait, and it was hot and delicious. We had the arlington skillet (great for people who love a little spice in their breakfast!) with 2 pancakes (fluffy!) and a serving of french toast (fantastic flavor) The cafe was very open but not loud despite the number of people there, felt very inviting. This was my first time trying this cafe out. I gave my friend a ride to drop her car off and she said she would buy breakfast and Pantego Cafe was open for breakfast. First impression the atmosphere was dark like the there was storm's outside but it was sunny at the time . I asked if we could raise the blind and she told me they don't raise up but I managed to raise it a few inches lol The pork chops were a little tough but tasty and the eggs were perfectly scrambled but the hash browns had a weird texture and taste. The grits were very bland !! I could not eat them. The turkey bacon was tolerable lol I'm not sure I'm a turkey bacon fan . I would give them another chance because the omelette was very good. EXTREMELY limited selection outside of breakfast, and many items are only available on certain days of the week. This is a great place to come if you're on a diet, because as soon as you see something on the menu that looks good, you find out it's only available on the 32nd day of the 13th month of the year for 73.58 minutes when a full moon and a planetary conjunction have simultaneously converged in the night sky with a double rainbow visible alongside Venus. (Okay, slight hyperbole, but you get the idea. Their selection of non-breakfast food is pathetic, and half of it isn't even available on any given day.) To add insult to injury, they didn't even bother telling us they were out of soup until we'd already ordered our lunches that were supposed to come with soup. They offered nothing to make up for it, no option for an extra side or anything. They just took our orders under false pretenses, and after we ordered, we got told they were out of soup, so we wouldn't be getting any. Bottom line: I ordered my third or fourth choice for a meal because the stuff I actually like is relegated to only being available one or two days a week. Then, when I found something I could choke down, I ordered it, and got told AFTER I ordered it and it was being prepared that there was no soup,even though it was supposed to come with soup. Let me just say this. I have been here about five times now, and never once of my own choosing. Every time I come here, it's always because somebody else wanted to, and I drew the short straw. And I always leave frustrated and disappointed. The food (what little there is of it for lunch, anyway) is good, the service is friendly, and the breakfast food coming out of the kitchen looked pretty good. I'll give credit where it's due. Relied on trusty Yelpers for a good brunch spot while I was driving to Fort Worth and came across Pantego Cafe. This spot was great! We got chicken and waffles off their menu special and chicken fried steak. Both dishes cost about $12 and portion size was very generous. Everything tasted good and cooked perfectly. The Texas shaped waffle was a nice touch for an out-of-state visitor like me. Service was good. Our waitress checked in on us a couple of times to see if we needed anything else. There kind enough to offer a Military Discount but they need to train the cashiers to distinguish a credit card from a military ID. On more than two occasions I have have handed them my military ID and and they believe it's a credit card and they don't include the military discount. This business, which is now called Pantego Cafe, has changed names so many times during my strange, curious journey through this life I have in Arlington. I had passed Pantego Cafe many times, always missing being able to stop in just barely. Though, admittedly, I rarely actually go in a place in the last 45 minutes they are open. The litmus test - biscuits, gravy and hashbrowns. That is the way to know if you are getting fresh, real home cooking, or frozen, reheated visitor cooking. ("Visitor...get it? Like the opposite of home. Nevermind)... The old bar is still inside, so I saddled up and ordered my water, biscuits with cream gravy, and hashbrowns. Essentially, the S.O.S, but with cream gravy rather than sausage gravy. While I waited, I browsed the menu. It was pretty large for a place that only serves breakfast and lunch. It also served regular bacon or turkey bacon, I noticed. I really appreciated the cream gravy OR sausage gravy, and not just sausage gravy. Oh, and they serve Pepsi products. The moment of truth - I cannot decipher whether the biscuits are made in house big batch and reheated, or are ordered frozen, but they certainly aren't "made to order." They are a touch better than Main Street Cafe in Arlington, but miles away from Cracker Barrel. The gravy was good, but could have used some seasoning. Better no seasoning than a meat base though, I say. The hashbrowns were the highlight, however. Light, crisp, but not greasy. And ample. In fact, the whole meal was quite a lot of food for just a small price - $6.99 And an aside - "Won't he do it." My boss recently went gluten free and was pining for something sweet in the office. I have been coming to this location for a couple of years now. Despite that it's out of my way, by about 25 minutes. There are many restaurants along my route, but I choose to come here because of the food. Generally the service is really good despite a handful of servers, which I avoid. Last weekend I had the pleasure of being served by one of the ones I try to avoid because at the time, it was the only table available. Everything was fine until a Hispanic mother and her two young children were sat at the next table. Because of a language barrier, that's when the servers callusnes was on full display. When brought to the owners attention, he too heard the server, and asked what am I going to do? I'm short handed. To make things worse, he said the server speaks Spanish, but chose not to use her second language. Just complicating matters. The owner and his kitchen staff too speak Spanish, let them assist taking the order rather than the server being brash and loud with the customer. Hint: when someone doesn't understand the language, it doesn't mean their deaf, raising your voice doesn't mean their going to understand you any better. Discussed with owner and he says he tries helping his staff. But if his staff cared for him and his business, they wouldn't treat his customers that way. I came back today, I over hear the same server and a couple of other ones talking about me and paraphrasing here... dumbfounded why I would come back here to eat again after what happened last weekend and then raising such a stink. Recommend this place if you like coming for good food, potentially being treated harshly by a brash server and having servers talk about you behind your back while rolling silverware at their station. Five stars minus two stars for staff and another two stars for management not having the wisdom to do the right thing and rid the cancer(s) in his restaurant. Run short handed and run a short wait but have a staff that respects you and your patrons.
