The food was 4 stars, the fact that they took the two items I wanted off the menu but is still posted online, plus there being too many better pizza places around brings it down to 3. We came right at 11 am when they opened, so no crowds, great service both at the order counter as from our waitress. open kitchen, also really nice, we saw our food being made and it looked great. The blood orange lemonade was excellent, way better than I thought. I had the hand chopped salad ($11), sub pine nuts for provolone with pesto instead of the regular dressing. The salad was very fresh with a lot of different flavors to it, nice and light. The pesto was all oil, a bit of a let down. My husband had the sprouts and bacon pizza ($11) which he enjoyed but was the same size as my sons one topping (he chose bacon) kids pizza ($5) Lesson learned, try to order kids pizzas next time. He also had the baked mac n cheese ($11) good but overpriced for what you get. In all good food, but almost $50 for lunch is too much for what we got. read more

The neapolitan pizzas here are good. The crust is thin and crispy and they seem to use good quality ingredients. The baked broccolini was also very good. It was crispy and salty and charred just right. But for some reason, I'm not a big fan of their concept. Especially when it isn't executed very well. I don't know what makes a pizza place hipster, but it sure seems like this is what they are aiming for. If hipster pizza consists of sparse toppings and high prices, then I guess they are doing a good job. Although my Pitfire Sausage pizza tasted alright, there was hardly any sausage on the pizza. And for the prices that they charge, you'd think they could be a little more generous. Also, the list of craft beers on the wall made the place seem interesting. But it turned out that none of the ones I wanted were available. Getting a pitcher of Ballast Point is not my idea of interesting, and neither is getting a dirty glass. But ultimately, the food here is pretty good. It's just not really worth the price to me. I mean, you can add adjectives like "gourmet" and "artisan" to just about anything these days. But in reality, it's just some tomato sauce and cheese on top of dough. But that's just me. read more

The wood fired pizza is amazing! The pizza restaurant is in front of their speakeasy bar called Piesociety, which I reviewed separately. When you enter you order from the cashier, they have a set menu plus a few seasonal items listed behind the cashier. Once you pay they give you a stick with a number and you pick out your own table. About 10 minutes after we sit down the food was brought out. I ordered the sausage party $12.50 Fennel sausage, salumi and bacon with tomato sauce, mozzarella and Saba. The pizza crust is crispy on the bottom yet the putter crust was puffy and doughy, in a good way. I'm not a big fan of the cardboard thin pizza crust found at other make to order pizza places. This dough was perfect. The bottom never got soggy even the leftovers heated up crispy. For an additional $2 you can get a soup or side salad. I got the lemon chicken soup with kale. The lemon flavor was subtle the soup while warm was also refreshing. This is good pizza! read more

UPDATE FEB 2019/ It is absurd to me that this has happened 3 times!! I order online via their website, I call to confirm order since it was lost once. Order is confirmed. We show up to pick up order and all the sudden they can't find it and have to start the order on site while we wait. Girl at front has several times given lame excuses saying it's busy when no one is in there. To the manager who helped me tonight with the gift card and apologies, thanks so much. But there is a major breakdown in communication between staff. I also called 3 times and no one answered the phone earlier tonight. Pitfire has a wide array of delicious pizzas and is a great place for an event too. We had our co-ed baby shower here (right before the covid quarantine) because we wanted somewhere low key where we could just enjoy good food and drinks with friends. Their back room was free and large enough to accommodate our big group. My friends who co-hosted said they were easy to work with and all of the pizza, pasta, and salads were delicious. The corkage fee was also very reasonable and we were able to bring our own wine. Staff was friendly and attentive. Sad that it might be a while before things open up again but a good spot for takeout for now. read more

You'll need to read this review with a grain of salt. Was invited to the soft open for this new location. Everything was free and it's really just a chance for the employees to work out the kinks of the kitchen and service. I use to go to the Pitfire in culver city when I worked near there and am a fan. With that said I am kind of biased but I believe once this location is open to the public all the kinks will be worked out and nothing but quality food will be served. Today I tried the Burrata Pizza, house salad, chicken cappatappi, grilled chicken salad and the smothered cookie. All the food was good. Pizza could have been a little hotter. Too much moisture from the arugula on the pizza, but its a soft open so I knew things wouldn't be perfect. I look forward to reading the reviews from paying customers but I am sure this location will do great business. read more

I used to love coming to Pitfire for pizza and a glass of wine. My friend and I went last night around 6 or 7pm and it was busy! I was happy for them because the staff had always been so friendly to me and the pizza is good. The seating is first come first served and all inside seating was full so my friend and I sat outside. Heater was on and it wasn't a cold evening. Someone closed the door to the patio so we were isolated outside by ourselves, so when a table inside opened we jumped on it. Standing next to the table so it could be cleaned, we didn't sit down but just hovered to "claim" it before another customer did. The manager was helping the waitstaff clear the table and he glared at me and asked me very rudely with a serious attitude, "Can you just WAIT until I clean this off?!" I was shocked and then angry to be spoken to so rudely. I feel so sorry for the staff that have to work with him. He is horrible and I will never return. There are plenty of better places in town where the managers and employees appreciate customers. That man is inexcusable! read more

Excellent food, service, and concept. Pitfire is a casual pizza restaurant with an effortlessly elegant ambience. High ceilings, open kitchen, exposed brick. You order at the front counter, where menus display a variety of gourmet pizzas, salads, panini, soups, and desserts. I was delighted to find several entirely vegan options, as well as vegetarian options that could easily be made vegan. Good wine selection, and 8 different local beers on tap, which the staff enthusiastically encouraged us to sample. I went with a Red Ale from Laguna Beach Brewing Company, which paired really nicely with the food. My boyfriend and I each got a pizza and beer, plus a side, which came to just $33, somehow. We were given a number to place at our table, and chose one of the big roomy booths in back. The side of Grilled Broccolini and my boyfriend's Field Mushroom pizza came out in under 10 minutes. The Broccolini was fantastic, tender but still crisp and dressed with the perfect amount of garlic oil and a touch of lemon. 30 minutes later my pizza was still MIA, so we flagged down a waiter and inquired. Apparently, it somehow did not make it on to our order or receipt-an honest mistake by the cashier. We offered to pay the difference, but the waiter insisted that it was on the house. Fantastic. When my Vegan Margherita pie finally arrived, I knew immediately that it was well worth the wait. The thin layer of fresh marinara is topped with basil and heaping tablespoons of their house made cashew cheese. Creamy and fully melted, it is neutral in flavor-similar to authentic fresh mozzarella cheese. The portion was large for $12, leaving us with plenty of leftovers, which were even more tasty the next day. I look forward to returning. read more

My go to pizza is the field mushroom pizza, although the Big Sur pizza is a close second. The pizza crust is sourdough-like with a slight tang, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The toppings and cheese are not overpowering and give just the right amount of flavor. The cauliflower and broccolini appetizers are a must for veggie lovers.
