Drove 3 hrs to go whale watching and needed to grab the kids a quick bite before getting on the boats. Hot dogs are way overpriced worse than a baseball game or Disney . It's a tourist area I get it .so I knew before ordering Id be paying a little more and just went with it but they are not even made to taste good. My hot dog living kid didn't even want to finish his. The menu said made in the oven or something and Never again. At least at the other places when you get an overpriced hot dog they are good . Older guy running the shop was ehh... there for a paycheck. Hope he gets paid well. read more

This is a nice place for a quick drop in and snack. You wouldn't expect much, and as such it does meet the expectations. The cheese pizza was good, and a bit pricey. The hotdogs are flavorful and we enjoyed our the quick bite. The place was clean enough, and the canned sodas were cold. The service is a step above slinging food, as there was no small talk, just getting the food out while it was hot. read more

I came in to buy an Ice cream a drink , the cashier was so rude and racist . I paid and I said "thank you so much" this unprofessional rude cashier didn't even had the decency to respond back . I once again said thank you and still she ignored me. I've been here before so I decided to come back , never had I been treated this way . Negative stars for the condescending response from the business owner. The cost of living in Newport is not an excuse for junk pizza. I could get less expensive and better tasting pizza in Beverly Hills, Aspen, London, NYC, and a slew of more pricey locales than the pigeon-poop covered Newport "FunZone"! Lol Go try Lucali or Pizzana, then get back to us about your high rent and supply chain issues. You are an embarrassment to restaurants and pizza makers in general. read more

I'm thankful for this business! I always stop here for a quick slice of $3 cheese pizza. I just love the thinner New York style they have. I've also had a root beer float from here which was perfect with their soft serve. Their caramel flavored soft serve was also pretty good. If I was able to not give any stars at all I would. I sit here for several minutes waiting to be helped and even acknowledged. There were two workers there both of whom were not doing anything. Other orders have been taken and received and paid for yet I stood there staring at them waiting to be helped. I wasn't in a rush but at the same time I wasn't in the mood to be completely ignored, looked past and even worse, even after saying Hi to the workers, they didn't ask if I'd been helped or anything. I have NO reason to return here. That's for sure. I get it. You're always working to get through the rush of Junior lifeguards and what not, as it's kinda like happy hour, but to ignore your other customers, that's not at all cool, dude! read more

This is an extremely basic slice place. Been going for years as I live down the street. But I just had my son get 2 cheese pizzas???? $81.37 for 2 pizzas?!?? Little outrageous! Disgusting to even think it's ok to charge anyone $40 for a basic cheese pizza. You guys have basic cardboard low grade NY style.... And you literally said a different price than you ended up charging my young son. "You the shady unscrupulous business owner gave yourself an 18% tip. You flipped the screen and added the tip yourself. You have the "most expensive" pizza in the city of Newport Beach. And we all got sick after we ate your trashy pizza last night. The place has a very cozy and homey vibe with many pictures showcasing its beautiful Italian history. I ordered the chicken alfredo, and it was splendid. Pasta was al dente, the sauce was rich and creamy, there was nothing to complain about. We were also given complimentary bread and butter plus a salad. One of the girls swears by this cute italian spot so we all just had to check it out! The Break Down: Location/Parking: - This restaurant has many locations, but we went to the one in Newport Beach specifically. Parking can be a little on the tricky side so best to get there earlier. They do have a small little parking lot on the side and you'd just have to walk to the restaurant, which isn't even a walk tbh. Alongside that there is a paid parking lot as well, but is free after 6pm. I was lucky since our get together started at 5:30pm. I just waited it out for a bit lol. Also if you are wondering, you make a payment through the app if you were to park in that paid lot. Atmosphere: - Give a rustic Italian homey vibe, with that touch of character. All around the restaurant you see frames of posters, pictures of places and people which I loved. The Food: Appetizers Bread + Oil/Vinegar (COMPLEMENTARY) - Who doesn't love free bread lol I know I love it, A++ for me. The bread is just a regular bread of course with butter on the side and self-serve of the oil & vinegar. I love it when restaurants have snackies as you wait :) Bruschetta ($12.95) 3/5 stars - For me I think it was more so that the tomatoes were larger than what I was used to. Usually bigger is better, yes, but I was looking for smaller chucks and more flavor profile as well. To me it was on the blander side, but to everyone else it was a hit. I think i amm a heavy salt person too. Twas still a good starter. Calamari Fritti ($15.95) 5/5 stars - UGH BOMB! I loved this so much. Then again I love seafood! The batter was not overwhelming at all twas light but still had that flavor that I love! It was cooked perfectly and not chewy at all. The sauce matched perfectly. You cant go wrong with calamari or well i have never been wrong lol. Main Entree Lemon Cream Sauce & Shrimp ($22.95) 3/5 stars - So i didn't go with my gut and I ordered something totally different from what I was used to. It's okay though because I want to try new things. This pasta was okay, I think when I was ordering this I wanted something creamy. Beforehand I was sold on choosing between lasagna or sausage pasta with ricotta, I'm more of that girl, but then again at least now i know lol. Next time I'm back I will definitely try the highly recommended Chicken parm! Drinks I love that this place was a BYOB type of restaurant and they DONT CHARGE A CORK FEE! So of course the sweetest coworker of mine (who also recommended this restaurant and the chicken parm that i didn't order), brought endless wines of all types lol. Service: - The staff was very nice! They were so patient with us and I knew we were louder than everyone else, but hey it's the holidays we are happy to be in each other's company! Again Thank you Romano Cucina!!

It's one of those spots that always hits the spot when you're craving good, comforting pizza without anything too fancy. My favorite pizza is the Chicken Alfredo. The creamy sauce, crunchy onions, chunky chicken, and a little cilantro on top are literally chef's kiss. I love adding chili flakes or a bit of Tabasco for an extra kick. Another close favorite is the Hawaiian, especially with a side of ranch. Simple, classic, and always good. Their salads are also surprisingly great. I love a good Caesar, but their house salad is delicious too. It has baby corn that adds tons of crunch, plus salami, sun dried tomatoes, and other goodies that make it feel a little more special than your average side salad. The staff is always friendly and fast, which makes picking up food here really easy. If you're in CDM and craving pizza, Johnny's is definitely worth checking out.

I had seen the good reviews and played it safe with a combo #2 cheese slice and the side salad. The pizza was solid, but the salad honestly hit the spot. It's still early in the New Year and I'm pretending to be healthy, and this actually felt like a win. Fresh ingredients, lots of cubed meat in the salad, a flavorful Italian dressing, and enough sun-dried tomatoes to let you know they weren't rationing. It could've passed as a full meal without anyone judging me. What really stood out was the service. Friendly, local, welcoming, and genuinely happy you're there. The place has a real East Coast feel to it, which is kind of hilarious and refreshing dropped right into polished CDM. This spot earns the praise it gets and feels like a much better choice than defaulting to one of the chains nearby. Happy to support a local business like this.
