Pita bowl, base rice and almonds, and hummus and garlic sauce
    Katie T.

I got a pita bowl, base rice with almonds, white chicken, and garlic and hummus for two sauces + all the toppings seen in my picture. It's SO good!! I usually get shawarmas here which is good but this bowl is so flavorful. I used doordash and it was super quick!

After days of eating and drinking nonstop on a road trip from Miami, FL to Brighton, the stomachs of my friend and I could take no more so we stopped in to Pitaway for a healthier dinner. The food was very affordable, and the portions were huge. There was only one employee working, Karl, but he was friendly, fast, and efficient. My friend got a falafel sandwich which was very tasty. I created a falafel bowl full of fresh veggies. The baba ganoush was excellent. My favorite topping was the tourshi. Be sure to load up on that!

chicken shawarma and I added falafel. Forgot to add my picture until I was half way through, it was that good!

Amazing. It's like a Mediterranean Subway, but much better quality. I got a chicken shawarma bowl and added a half order (2) of falafel. Super good. Hommus was great and garlic sauce was excellent. Add all the fixings you want for no extra, and then decide on your dressing. The kafta and tawook looked super good as well, I'll be back to try them. We added a side of hommus and pita chips for a meal, which was super good. Everything was awesome, we were pleasantly surprised. Staff was friendly and quick. Pretty busy for the lunch crowd but we didn't wait long at all.

    Forgot food pics lol

Ordered delivery for a friend, staff was very pleasant and kind. Even with the tornados they were doing all they could to help get food out!

Great selection of food, friendly staff, and a clean restaurant. I always get takeout but I do see many people enjoying their food inside.

Food is always delicious and I don't feel weighed down afterwards (I don't eat an entire bowl, just about 3/4 of it).

The ambiance was not as fun as I would have expected but of course the crowd determines that. Took some time to get greeted, drinks, and (complimentary which is a nice touch) bread and butter. Good news bad news that because that took some time our dinners came out almost immediately afterward. The Michigan Salad was good but overpriced at $18 especially when that doesn't include chicken. Asked my husband if it was as good as the last one he had at a neighborhood grill and the answer was no. So 3 stars there. 3 stars also for the chicken picatta. Chicken piccata is my favorite dinner dish so I've had it at quite a few places. This one just didn't have much flavor. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the asparagus was great, but the piccata sauce just wasn't it. Neither were the mashed potatoes. Good portion and overall good dish, just doesn't compare in flavor to other restaurants. The owner (I assume) came by every time to ask how things were which is always very much appreciated. The live music was great, patio beautiful. Inside which we saw on our way out looked much livelier with sports on. We'll definitely go back and sit inside to enjoy a game! As we left we were thanked for coming by two different people at the door. It's always fantastic when this happens.....when you feel like your patronage is appreciated you'll go back again and again. :)

Shoutout to my friend and fellow foodie Tiffany for always being down to try a new spot together!…read moreWe did a double date at El Harissa recently and it's my favorite kind of spot - welcoming and warm, with delicious food, and kind, patient employees. The cafe is a few tables inside of the market/deli, with a lot of takeout happening but I love that they offer dining in as they heat everything up for you and it's all presented very nicely. We ordered a ton of things: harissa dip, hummus, pita, spice roasted cauliflower, tabbouleh, lasagne verde, chicken tagine, and gelato. I loved that the menu indicates which menu items have a smaller carbon footprint - and we happened to be dining there on Earth Day! The food was all flavorful and the perfect temperature, which I appreciated. My favorites were the harissa dip, tabbouleh, and the lasagne verde. The chicken tagine was very good, and we enjoyed the leftovers the next day. The spice roasted cauliflower left us wanting it to be a bit more crispy, but it was a nice side. The gelato is delicious - it's made by Palazzolo's but El Harissa provides them with the unique ingredients for their specialty flavors. They were out of some but we got to sample several. We ended up with the roasted pistachio gelato and the apricot peach cardamom. The texture of the gelato was perfectly creamy and the flavors were strong. The market has lots of great items to buy: chips, tunisian olive wood pieces, spices, etc. I'm so glad we sought out this spot and can't wait to get more of their food!

Had the: *Spice Roasted Cauliflower (Crispy cauliflower florets coated and baked in rice and chickpea flour and our North African spice blend. Served with Harissa Dip) Small/1-2 Portion - $11): A little soggier than I'd like but the flavors were good! I also like the harissa dip it came with! *Small Merguez Meatballs (Inspired by the Maghrebi sausage, our spiced lamb and beef meatballs are hand-rolled with onions and herbs and coated with a thick tomato sauce. Served with saffron rice or couscous - small portion came with 3 for $10): For meatballs that included lamb - it wasn't gamey at all and very tasty! I picked cous cous for my side. *Chicken Chermoula (Brined, seared, then baked to capture all of its flavor, our crowd-favorite chicken is juicy and delicious. Served over rice with our herby, garlicky, lemony Chermoula Sauce - Double Portion - $18): Our main entree to share. The lemony chermoula sauce was delish. Chicken was perfectly cooked - not dry at all! Mujadara Rice (A Levantine staple of spiced green lentils and rice. Ours is adorned with carefully caramelized golden onions for a touch of savory-sweetness - small for $8) - SO tasty! I could eat this on its own. Maghrebi Chili (Smoky and spicy. Ground beef seasoned with Harissa spices and slowly cooked with chickpeas, lentils, black beans, peppers, and loads of vegetables - Small/Pint - $9.50) - FIBER CITY! Flavors were really good! We also had SO much gelato - they basically let us sample all of them. ended up with the pistachio and tiramisu. I'll be back - especially for a salad with their wonderful chicken - seems like a great healthy option!

Parking spaces were ample as the neighboring businesses weren't busy at all during this holiday week. The inside was not ornately decorated as some of the fancier places in the area that serve this type of cuisine. Between the booths and tables, my estimate was that the seating capacity was around 50 customers. The menu booklet contained several pages of offerings across the categories of appetizers, soups, salads, sides, wraps/subs, traditional dishes, and seafood/chops. For beverages, there were juices, smoothies, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. My friends each chose a different type of wrap for their meal. I picked one of the entrees from the traditional dishes which was the Gallaba over Hummus. In my hometown, I don't see gallaba as often as items like shish kabobs and shawarma. My order consisted of a choice of meat (lamb was my pick) sauteed with green peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and carrots with special spices added. The mixture was served on a bed of hummus with my choice of rice on the side. A cup of chicken rice soup (instead of lentil) also came with this traditional dish. While we were waiting for our food, a basket of warm pita bread and a cup of garlic spread were provided. The spread was very pungent so I used it sparingly. An extra dinner salad was mistakenly added which I saved for leftovers. The gallaba was essentially a Middle Eastern version of a meat stir fry. The pieces of lamb were tender and not gamey. The spices added flavor but not saltiness. Between the bread, soup, rice, and gallaba, it was a generous portion size that also became leftovers for later. For the quality and price of my meal, I gave a four star rating for our visit to The Sheikh Restaurant.
