I've been coming here since the early 2000s, and it's still hands down one of my all-time favorite spots on Ventura Blvd. Some places come and go but Pita Kitchen has stayed consistent, and that says everything. I've brought plenty of friends over the years, and every single one of them has said the same thing after their first visit: this place is legit. Anytime I try Mediterranean food in a similar price range, I find myself comparing it back to Pita Kitchen and honestly, it's hard to beat. My go to is the steak plate with Greek salad perfectly grilled, flavorful, and always fresh. You can really taste the quality in every bite. Pro tip: eat it there, right when it comes out. That's when it truly hits different. In a time where a lot of restaurants lose their edge or disappear altogether, I'm genuinely glad Pita Kitchen is still here and still delivering. Back to back issues with this restaurant. I found a hair last week in my food. I didn't even want a new plate. Today I went to the restaurant and I saw a gentleman in the kitchen with a wet mop, touching the wet mop, then touching my food right after. I will never go back to Pita Kitchen and do not recommend. This place is extremely unsanitary and unprofessional. They need to rewrite or follow through on their SOPs, standard operation procedures. read more

Not the same anymore!!! All soggy and becomes like gums after the food gets cold. Dont mind if the prices are higher, unfortunately there was 3 of us and we all tasted the same , plates Pita when its gets cold , as if you dry a gum and u can't even chew it , the hummus are not a fresh as before , the beef shwarma , not the same. Pita Kitchen is a solid option when you have a craving for Mediterranean food. We got takeout from here the other night and the portions are huge! I got the chicken shawarma plate and really enjoyed all the flavors. The chicken was tender, the rice was buttery and the salad tasted fresh. Their tahini wasn't my favorite and the container it came in was so small I wish I had a little more. Also, the pita that came with my plate was pretty hard. Not sure if this is their style, but I prefer soft pita, not pita that is cracker-like. Loved the pickles and their babaganoush is amazing. If you haven't been I'd say it's worth checking out! Pita Kitchen is a Mediterranean restaurant right outside of the heart of Ventura Blvd. The menu has relatively cheap dishes with plenty of options and generous portions of meat, rice, vegetables, pita bread, and other sides. Instead of being presented your food at your table, you pick up your food at a window outside of the kitchen area. Note that parking is pretty tough to find on the streets and the interior is very casual, so it's usually best for takeout. The cooks and chefs work quickly and efficiently every time we order! We got the beef shawarma wrap, beef shawarma plate, and chicken shawarma plate with cucumber tomato salad, fries, rice, pita bread, regular lettuce salad, and hummus. They provided a lot of garlic sauce and hummus for a family of four! Our food truly hit the spot. read more

What happened to this place? Different management? I understand there is major inflation happening, possibly because of all the tariffs on chicken, lol... but when the portion of is food is now half of what it used to be, then it's simply because they've gotten cheap! I used to get the chicken kabob pita and it used to be $10.00 and it was packed with chicken to the point the pita couldn't handle it, that's what she said, but now it's $18 with hardly any chicken inside. I give this place 2 stars because the little bit of chicken that was in there was actually tasty! What a rip off! I've been coming to Pita Kitchen in Sherman Oaks for more than 20 years, and the quality has remained consistently excellent the entire time. If you're looking for a place that never disappoints, this is it. My go-to order is the filet steak with salads. The key is to eat it fresh, right off the grill, when it's at its absolute best. Parking and traffic in the area can be a bit of a challenge, but there is plenty of metered parking around the surrounding blocks, so it's manageable. What impresses me most is that after all these years, it's still the same ownership, the same people, and the same great food. Many of the newer shawarma places tend to overdo the seasoning and MSG, which I'm very sensitive to. Pita Kitchen keeps it simple--the meat tastes fresh, clean, and properly seasoned without any of the side effects. Twenty years later, they're still doing it right. Highly recommended. read more

i've been eating here for close to 10 or so years now, and the quality of the food has stayed consistent and so flavorful! my only gripe that i've noticed is that the meat portions have gotten smaller over the years, which makes me sad. my favorite is the chicken shish kebab and tabouli. so comforting and delicious!! service is quick and professional, and there's not much seating inside, but there's plenty of seating outside. really great and homey ambiance! i would definitely recommend if you're in the area. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I feel people should know. I ordered a pita kebab, but when my food was handed to me, I immediately knew it wasn't right. I opened it in front of the cashier (who I assume is the manager), and instead of a pita, it was wrapped in a tortilla. I politely asked if they could remake it. That's when things got bizarre. The cashier laughed at me, and several people in the kitchen laughed as well. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable, they simply made the wrong order. Being mocked for pointing out their mistake was incredibly disrespectful. While I was waiting for the remake, which took around 30 minutes, I watched the cook repeatedly rub his eyes while standing over the grill and then continue handling food with those same hands. That completely turned my stomach. When my food was finally ready, I sincerely said, "Thank you for remaking it." The cashier laughed at me again. I told him not to laugh at customers when the restaurant makes a mistake, and he continued laughing. Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is how you treat your customers afterward. Instead of apologizing, they mocked me for asking them to make the order I actually paid for. The whole interaction felt immature, unprofessional, and disrespectful. Between the poor hygiene I witnessed and the way I was treated, I lost my appetite and ended up throwing the food away. If the person who regularly takes orders can't treat customers with basic respect, it's probably time to find someone who can. Also, the the food has become lousy anyways. Just thought I'd give it one last shot. They won't be getting my patronage or from my business. Which easily spends 2,000-3,000 a year. A very solid Mediterranean street spot that I've been coming to for 15 some years. They serve good quality food, with kabob's being succulent and tasty and shawarma being tender, well-marinated, juicy and normally coming as a generous portion. This was really the case today as well-- my chicken shawarma plate was huge, the shawarma was right of the grill, hot, tender, delicious and came on the bed of yummy rice. My sides were outstanding as well. The hummus was good and fresh and the baba ganoush was simply out of this world. With each bite of baba ganoush, I tasted the roasted eggplant perfection with such pleasantly intense flavor of it that it made me crave it more and more. And with that also came the perfectly creamy texture as well. Yum! The joint itself is a valley street spot on the busy Van Nuys blvd, but it definitely has some character and has seating area on the inside and outside, if you wanna people-watch and eat. And it's also PRETTY DAMN GOOD!! I started coming here in the early 90's. I was always impressed by the quality and friendliness of the staff. Food gets served pretty quickly as well. It is ONLY CASH - but, don't worry as they have an ATM right next to where you place your order. Whatever it is you order - you are going to enjoy. You order at the pickup window and pick up when it's ready, either for dine in or take out. The place is nothing special but the Mediterranean food is delicious. I got the lamb and beef shawarma pita which is stuffed with meat and seasoned veggies. The meat is not too overpowering or salty. Very well balanced. Reminded me of the doner sandwiches in Berlin. Parking is a little difficult but not impossible. After ordering, it was ready in less than five minutes. The pita was the largest of the three and price was similar to others at less than $20. I parked on a red zone then went to order food to go. The food didn't take long which is wonderful. I didn't want to get a ticket. I ordered falafel and baba ganoush. It was my first time trying the BABA GANOUSH. I do eat eggplant but not like this. I put falafel and baba ganoush in a pita bread and WOW!!! It is definitely a good combination for me. Delicious!!! My client devoured her portion and she was very pleased with it. Craving satisfied. This place is small but it is popular. A few tables inside and a table outside. If I wanted prison food, I would commit a crime! Instead, I got it here. What happened!?! This used to be my on-the-go choice when I lived in Sherman Oaks. I moved away, but I was in the neighborhood and stopped by for old times sake. The food was awful! The pita was completely dried out, the tzatsiki sauce was clumped together, the rice was overcooked, and the meat lacked all flavor whatsoever. I literally threw 3/4 of my food away. The second time in 10 years Yelp has let me down- or I'm in the minority in thinking this place isn't all that great. My opinion was seconded however by my boyfriend who is almost always happy with anything you put in front of him. The chicken pitas we ordered were pretty flavorless despite having sauces and marinated chicken. The pita was an odd texture and fell apart in a crumbly kind of way. The fries we ordered on the side were so bland and desperately needed salt of all things. After dinner my boyfriend remarked that we would have had a better meal at Taco Bell. Great place in Sherman oaks open late, easy free residential parking in side streets. Food portions are large and reasonably priced. There's a restroom here along with outdoor tables. Lots of orders here so it's pretty busy but has a no frills order at counter type of restaurant. read more

This might just be my favorite Mediterranean Place to eat! Their portions are so generous; it's hard to come by that now a days. Our go to is the Chicken Kebab plate...they give so much chicken! It's moist and flavorful. Hummus, cucumber salad, rice...all big hits! We also get the chicken kebab pita wrap and that is PACKED with chicken. A lot of places put an unnecessary amount of rice to fill up space, but I like how they don't. I wish they had more outdoor seating; it's easier for us to just pick it up and eat it at home. Parking can be pretty awful, even for pick up. Your best bet is on Ventura Blvd since the back lot and the few meter parking on Van Nuys is usually filled. A MUST GO! read more

Yay! A close place that delivers some decent Gyros, Shwarma, Kebabs and more. This was our first order at Pita Kitchen. 3 of us ordered something different and had it delivered. I had a beef & lamb gyro, pita sandwich. It was very good size and very filling. I couldn't finish the last 3-4 bites. My son got the Beef Kebab wrap, which he enjoyed to a degree. He doesn't like sauces much, even the hummus. Eh. I enjoyed the hummus. My other son had the chicken shwarma wrap, and it was a big hit with him! Their dad sampled a bit of most, as he was heading out. The only slightly downside was a side order of falafel, which was dry and almost flavorless. Overall, we agree. We will be back!!
