Located conveniently on Ventura Blvd, a block from Van Nuys, with easy free parking in back, Didar offers delicious Persian food at reasonable prices. Everything is fresh and house-made. The Zereshk Polo is rice cooked with barberries (they taste like tart cherries). FANTASTIC!!! The serving is large enough for at least two people. Their Tadig is DELECTABLE crispy rice from the bottom of the pan, with two different aromatic and savory stews on it--so good! After seeing all the great reviews, I really thought I found a gem in Sherman Oaks... but the experience was a huge disappointment. The food was mediocre at best, and the service was lackluster. We had to keep asking for the same things, and the restaurant wasn't even crowded. What stood out most was an older bald woman who was walking around chatting warmly with other tables but completely disregarded and ignored us. At first, I just thought it was extremely odd but when I found out she was actually the owner, it was very disheartening especially as patrons. Being in such a small space and not even being acknowledged once gave off clear racist undertones. It felt intentional and left a really bad impression. We got seated rather quickly we went during the week for dinner. We had the Gheimeh Stew accompanied by rice, two beef Koobideh and one chicken Koobideh accompanied by rice, and Ghormeh Sabzi Stew. Everything tasted great and we would definitely order all the next time we come. There were two large parties and space for other smaller groups, they fit a lot of people although it is a small space, there was nice music playing and the staff was friendly. Didar Restaurant What a hidden gem. Didar truly gives you the authentic Persian feeling of Iran -- warm, comforting, and filled with love. The food tastes like it's made at home, the way Persian food is meant to be, and the incredible music just completes the experience. We ordered the half-and-half tahdig, which was perfectly crunchy and packed with flavor. We also had the chicken kabob and an extra skewer of beef koobideh -- both were unbelievably juicy and melted in your mouth. The house-made doogh was refreshing and delicious. The MEAT ME SPECIAL with chicken, beef koobideh and filet mignon was great!!! Cooked well and perfectly seasoned. Came with rice and salad. Substituted the rice for zereshk polo (berry rice). The GHORME SABZI (a stew) is also sooooooo very good. Came with flat bread so you can scoop up all the yummy goodness. This is the new best Persian restaurant in town. Tried this place tonight with my family and everything was a taste of home. I am Persian and consume Persian food regularly but this restaurant takes the cake in the SF valley. The abgousht was incredible, gormeh sabzi on tadig was so satisfying. And the chicken/beef koobideh was so juicy and well seasoned. And dessert, baklava, was a great ending to an incredible meal. The aroma of fine Persian stews and kabobs reminded me of visiting my aunt's house for one of her lavish Persian parties. Everything we tasted felt homemade. We ordered the tahdig with Khoresh-e Ghormeh Sabzi and Ghaimeh. Both stews were delicious and had a homemade taste. For our main course, we had the "Meat Me Special," a combination of boneless chicken, beef koobideh, and filet mignon shish kabob, served with a full plate of rice and a full plate of salad. The chicken kabob was juicy and flavorful, the beef koobideh was tender and delicious, and the shish kabob was exceptionally high quality--unlike the generic kabobs found at most Persian restaurants. The house doogh was creamy and rich, perfectly complementing our meal. The cardamom tea and bamiyeh that followed our lunch was the perfect ending to our meal. The bamiyeh was fresh, crispy, and perfectly sweet, while the hot tea provided a comforting finish. As always, Saghar, the owner of Taste of Tehran and Didar, was present, greeting us with the warmth and generosity of a host welcoming guests into her home. Full of light and joy, she truly completed our experience. Unlike most Persian restaurants, where the portions are large but the quality is average, Didar offers smaller portions. 100% worth the hype and worth the drive to the Valley! I must say these are the best kabobs in town, even better than Mini Kabobs (coming from a huge Mini Kabob fan). You can tell every dish is made with a lot of love and comes in heaping portions! Service was also great and our waiter was super sweet, patient, and attentive despite how busy it was getting! LOVE the food! I saw this restaurant on Ventura so many times while I was across the street, but always after hours. At last, I tried it and was so happy that it was amazing. The location is small, but it's cute. I went with someone (picky guy) who makes ghorme sabzee all the time, and he gave theirs a 5/5 (wow wow)! We also ordered a koobideh combo plate and it was good. Everything tasted authentic and cooked with love. Can't wait to come back. Service was nice, our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Pricing is very fair, quantity is good, and quality is great. The only part that was a little odd was the ending. When the waitress came to clear some of the dishes from our table, she had dirty dishes from other tables that she set down on our table and walked away - this happened 3 times (plates, cups, and then the cleaning products). We were sitting at the table at the very end, and as she cleaned/sprayed down the tables next to us, she set the products down at our table.
