Ahhhhh I can't believe I haven't written a review for this spot, I've been here at least 5-6 times now. When in Sherman oaks this has become one of my go-to spots for flavorful Mediterranean food. My must-order items are the hummus, Brussels sprouts, Moroccan fried chicken, rice, and of course the pita you absolutely have to get the pita. I've also tried the watermelon salad, which was excellent, though I think it's seasonal. The fried cauliflower, however, is a hard pass for me. Something about the Brussels sprouts here is next-level, they're honestly some of the most flavorful I've ever had in my life. I could easily eat the whole dish myself. I also love that many items come as small plates, which makes them perfect for sharing. The Moroccan fried chicken is another standout it is super flavorful and pairs perfectly with the rice, hummus, and pita. Now, the service is where this place falls short. The last few times I've visited, the experience hasn't been great. The older blonde woman with very short hair has been particularly unpleasant, and when I visited the week before Thanksgiving, the overall service was especially bad. They have parking in the back and it's shared with other businesses and it is a paid parking so you pay at the little parking kiosk. Even with the inconsistent service, the food keeps me coming back. Everything was insanely off, either too much spice, or none at all. the chicken for example had so much smoke flavor that it was impossible to eat. They seem to ooze with juice and flavor in every bite. A slab of crispy, fried, paprika-dusted eggplant goes well with the tangy dill arugula salad. My favorite part of this feast is the pita bread, which arrives in a towel covered basket. The pita is warm, thick as a deflated football, and so fluffy and soft. Wow guys- what happened? This is my people's food and over the last year this place went from gentrified Middle Eastern food to just a flat out downright horrible mockery of the cuisine. Entire pitas swimming in "herbs" that don't traditionally come on pitas. Enough Amba to make the sandwich drip. Squishy, cold/tough to chew in the middle falafel. Flavorless pargiyot. Dry Merguez. The list goes on and on. My husband is Moroccan/Israeli and he was also mortified by his pita as well- taking out more than half of the pita's contents just by removing the non-traditional herbs. For being stationed in an area where thousands of us Middle Easterners live and thrive we used to put up with this gentrified nonsense due to the pricing- but now it's not even worth that. Let me start by saying the food is excellent, and if you are looking for good Mediterranean take out, then Mizlala is a solid choice. However this review is for a dine-in experience, and there is definitely room for improvement in the dining room. There is a pay lot behind the restaurant, and it is a bit confusing because there is a valet there for a neighboring restaurant, and it isn't really clear what spaces are self park, and which are reserved for valet, I ended up parking on Sepulveda, across from the restaurant, but a short walk. The decor is charming, but dated, and a bit dingy. The tabletop was sticky. The server was nice, but seemed a bit overwhelmed. The kitchen made a mistake with one of our appetizers, but it was quickly corrected and they let us keep the incorrect item at no charge. As others have mentioned, the servers aren't too attentive here, you have to be vocal to get their attention. When we were visibly done with our meal it took about 15 minutes to flag down a server for the check. All that said; the food is outstanding, and a great value, so that offsets a lot of the negatives of the dining room experience. The shawarma is fantastic, as is the fried chicken. The bourekas is really good, as is the watermelon salad. The Jerusalem salad is delicious, everything was wonderful and we were stuffed with 2 bags of leftovers when we left. We were shocked that in person, the food is even better! Spanakopita gnocchi - chewy gnocchi, spinach, fresh dill, feta, & almond slices make each bite amazing. Fish plate - super fresh chunks of salmon, their amazing herb salad, Jerusalem salad, their velvety hummus, a slab of lightly battered crispy eggplant, & their super fresh, hot, fluffy pita. Kefta plate - a hearty helping of delicious lamb & beef patties, served with the same delicious things as the salmon. Baklava - omg the best - cinnamony, nutty, topped with whole pistachios, & lightly sweet with a subtle orange blossom flavor. I do love the ease of Postmates, & all their food travels really well. Ordered takeout here and it had been awhile. The last time or two, the dishes were not consistent so took a break. Glad to be back as this last experience was as good as we remember. Still sad that some items from their previous menu have disappeared but there is still plenty to love. We had: lamb merguez pita chicken shawarma pita chicken parygot pita hen of the woods cauliflower broccolli hummus tzatziki baba ghanoush The pitas were HUGE and absolutely stuffed with meat, herbs, pickles. SO MUCH FLAVOR. The vegetable dishes SHINE with intricate sauces that match each one. Although they are pricey relative to the sandwiches, they take technique and time and are not to be missed. The smoke, char and layers of flavor they achieve on all of their food is something of a WONDER. Orders are consistently accurate and ready when promised. Th only room for improvement is that they takeout containers seep and leak over time. Not sure if they are an environmentally friendly material (if so, BRAVO), but they are not as practical for their sauce-heavy vegetable dishes. Hoping they look into this. The dried chicken is great I had a lamb and beef switch is spicy along with a soup which had Harrisa . The pita is excellent. We also had a chicken which was moist. Two of us shared: - The chicken Schwarma salad: I would get the salad which has such a nice assortment of different flavors and herbs; all of their vegetable/salad sides are so refreshing. However, the chicken itself I thought was not as tender as I'm used to - maybe I'm spoiled by the schwarma in NYC. - the falafel plate: falafels came out hot, but the exterior was a bit more hard than I like the falafels to be. The plate itself seems to have downgraded, since you have to pick a side of rice, soup, or salad, whereas the plate used to come with all 3 last time I ordered. I ordered the rice again, which I liked the most last time. It comes with pita as well, and the waitress was super nice and offered a 2nd one, seeing my friend. The hummus is chalkier than most and could have more flavor, but the tahina sauce under the falafel was really refreshing with the herb garnish that they have with it. The fried eggplant slice was actually my favorite thing out of the entire meal. - the Moroccan fried chicken was decent. I don't think it deserve the hype it receives, but it's a good fried chicken, and the harissa aioli and the apricot mustard it comes with are interesting sauces to try it with. - Ordered a glass of the pinot grigio, which has more flavor than most of that varietal.
