This hummus with artichokes is amazing
    Rashmi V.

Ahhhhh I can't believe I haven't written a review for this spot, I've been here at least 5-6 times now. When in Sherman oaks this has become one of my go-to spots for flavorful Mediterranean food. My must-order items are the hummus, Brussels sprouts, Moroccan fried chicken, rice, and of course the pita you absolutely have to get the pita. I've also tried the watermelon salad, which was excellent, though I think it's seasonal. The fried cauliflower, however, is a hard pass for me. Something about the Brussels sprouts here is next-level, they're honestly some of the most flavorful I've ever had in my life. I could easily eat the whole dish myself. I also love that many items come as small plates, which makes them perfect for sharing. The Moroccan fried chicken is another standout it is super flavorful and pairs perfectly with the rice, hummus, and pita. Now, the service is where this place falls short. The last few times I've visited, the experience hasn't been great. The older blonde woman with very short hair has been particularly unpleasant, and when I visited the week before Thanksgiving, the overall service was especially bad. They have parking in the back and it's shared with other businesses and it is a paid parking so you pay at the little parking kiosk. Even with the inconsistent service, the food keeps me coming back. All in all, Mizlala is a great place for delicious dishes, and I would still recommend it just be prepared for service that can be hit or miss.

Really really good spot. The Moroccan fried chicken is unique and delicious -- definitely try it if you like fried chicken at all. The appetizer we got was good too, but the Moroccan fried chicken was the star of the meal. The service is friendly and welcoming as well. The location is a bit tough to get to parking-wise, but you can park in the neighborhood nearby and walk across the street

Pretty solid Mediterranean food! I had the chicken shwarma plate - food was fresh and portion sizes were generous. The plate comes with your main dish, hummus, pita, side of fried egg plant, and choice of salad, soup, or rice. The pita felt as if it was made in a stone oven and was super fluffy. I felt really full and satisfied with my meal afterwards!

Great hidden gem of Mediterranean food. Staff was fast to greet me and have me seated. Started with the complementary pickled veggies which were great. Ordered the broccoli with caper aioli, Brussels sprouts, sumac fries, salmon kabob with Majadra. Flavors were great, food was fresh. Do be sure to try all the dipping sauces including The Amba (Pickled Mango). Wasn't too loud even thought the restaurant was packed. Note: parking in the rear lot can be a bit scarce during the dinner rush.

This branch of Mizlala is in a quiet corner of Sherman Oaks. As you walk beneath hanging basket lamps and plants, the sounds of 70s grooves provides a welcoming entrance. This amazing Mediterranean cuisine offers chicken in delectable grilled, shawarma, and Moroccan fried variants. Pargiyot Chicken: Before your plate arrives, you receive a dish of pickled pink turnips, cucumbers, olives, and spiced cabbage. The grilled chicken thighs are cooked to tender perfection. They seem to ooze with juice and flavor in every bite. A slab of crispy, fried, paprika-dusted eggplant goes well with the tangy dill arugula salad. My favorite part of this feast is the pita bread, which arrives in a towel covered basket. The pita is warm, thick as a deflated football, and so fluffy and soft. Tear off chunks of it and dip it in the stellar hummus topped with olive oil, lemon, and creamy tahini. To top it off, you also get rice, salad, or soup. Parking: There's a lot in the back, accessible by Dickens Street. There's also plenty of street parking near Whole Foods.

This place has never stood out every time I drove by until one day it did and then I hadn't been able to stop thinking about it. Headed home one night when I know I didn't have groceries so I decided to pop in.. There is a parking lot in the back that is shared with all the other restaurants . I ordered the chicken Shawarma plate that came with hummus, a side salad, order Jerusalem salad as a side, super fluffy, pita, and this crispy eggplant thing that is now one of my new favorite things in the world . The chicken Shawarma was served on top of chilies and onions, which I wasn't expecting, but it was all delicious. The chicken had such great flavor.. The crispy eggplant is one of my new favorite things. I could've had like 10 more, and I used it to pile all my food on. The hummus is absolutely delightful, it was so incredibly creamy . The side salad and the Jerusalem salad added pops of freshness . And the pita was beyond fluffy . They serve complementary pickles when you sit down, and they were also delicious, and I surprised he really liked the cabbage. I can't remember what it was seasoned with.. This was also a great value. I got this whole plate for less than $22 I think.

Mizlala in Van Nuys completely lived up to the hype. I ordered the falafels and a side of the fried eggplant, and both were incredible. The falafels were crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful on the inside--easily some of the best I've had ever. Not dry, not bland, just perfectly done. The fried eggplant was simple but flavorful. It had that perfect balance of crispy edges and soft center, and paired so well with the sauces. The space is casual but stylish, and the service was quick and friendly. Portions are generous, everything tasted super fresh, and I left already planning what I'd try next. If you're even remotely in the area, Mizlala is 100% worth checking out.

Wow guys- what happened? This is my people's food and over the last year this place went from gentrified Middle Eastern food to just a flat out downright horrible mockery of the cuisine. Entire pitas swimming in "herbs" that don't traditionally come on pitas. Enough Amba to make the sandwich drip. Squishy, cold/tough to chew in the middle falafel. Flavorless pargiyot. Dry Merguez. The list goes on and on. My husband is Moroccan/Israeli and he was also mortified by his pita as well- taking out more than half of the pita's contents just by removing the non-traditional herbs. For being stationed in an area where thousands of us Middle Easterners live and thrive we used to put up with this gentrified nonsense due to the pricing- but now it's not even worth that. I've got an entire pita I've tossed in the garbage it was sooo bad.

A hidden little spot in Sherman oaks, perfect for take out or a quick meal in a homey setting. Affordable prices, large sized plates, and yummy food! Brussels: crispy and flavorful Kefta plate: comes with beef/lamb patties cooked to ~medium rare/medium, a crispy eggplant, salad, and your choice of mixed rice/lentil soup/Jerusalem salad. Served with hot, fluffy pitas. I got the lentil soup and it was great. My friends love their rice. Looked like all choices would've been yummy. The plates were about $20, and it was such great value. It could easily be 1.5meals. Overall, homey vibes and delicious food.

Nailed the Preparation and Flavors of authentic Mediterranean Middle Eastern cuisine. from the Pita itself to the Shewarma turning on the spit, and the small plates of pickled veggies - it all comes together! The place is located almost by the entrance to the freeway so keep in my to find the entrance to the parking lot though the ally in the back, one street parallel behind. Or street parking across the way from the front entrance. Casual and pleasant setting, with nice background music. Server was very kind and polite and had the patience to make sure I understood each dish and how it's served.

Are they open now? I called and no one answered and the voice mail is full. There is a post on yelp saying they are closed for renovations sometime in May. 3/15/23

Do they take reservations? The line automatically goes to voicemail and there's nothing on their site

No, they don't take reservations. Other reviewers stated they were able to call ahead if they had a large party, but otherwise it's first come first serve.

When did the menu change? I noticed the Greek salad is gone, as are many of the apps like Haloumi, hummus, etc. What happened to the restaurant? Was it sold?

I was told they did this overhaul several months ago. my 2 cents, it will drive them into the ground, as it's just an awful dining experience now. I asked and was told "same owner."

Why did they take steak off the menu? It was the best now we never orde from them. Bc we want chicken and steak ugh. I hate when. resturant is perfect then they change it up:(

What's vegan here? I don't see labels on the menu

    Do they have outside setting?

    Not as of yet.

Do you guys serve halal (zabiha) meat?

    No, they don't

    Are they kosher?

    No they are not

Someone please tell me when Mizlala will open again? I'm so sad, I really want to eat there! What's going on with it?

believe they had closed for some remodel work having to do with a wine license application. All open now ... As far as I know and I was there 1 week ago.

Do they charge corkage? (I got my own answer - $15/bottle.)

    Yes. $15

How expensive for a family of 4?

Could be between $60-90 depending on how many dishes you order, not including wine. It is family style tapas so you can control the number of dishes and cost. I don't like Brussels sprouts but theirs are delicious and plenty for 4. I think we…

They had utensils, napkins, and sauces with containers while you wait. I ordered the falafel bowl and pali salad in case the bowl itself wasn't enough. It did take longer than the other orders but once I got it, we sat outside where they had a few tables and chairs. The bowl looked fresh and vibrant, so many colors and a decent amount of falafel. I tried their white and mazbout sauces on the salad. I'm glad it had spinach as it helped reduce water from seeping out. The falafel was slightly spicy since I am terrible with spic r tolerance but the sauce made it very balanced. I also got to try someone's fries and it was super delicious, the spices they used on the fries were flavorful and the fried were very crispy and smooth inside. Overall, very nice quick lunch, we arrived before they opened right at 12pm and avoided the lunch rush! Very affordable prices as well.

I finally went in today and sadly, was not only disappointed, my fantasy of Falafel King was destroyed forever. I know Benito used to work for Falafel King, but this place is nothing like it. The service was horrible. The guy behind the little counter was not nice at all. In fact he was rude. And didn't like if you asked him questions. But that aside, sitting in this little tiny restaurant was not a good feeling. We were the only ones there. They have a seating area outside, I'm guessing for overflow - yet, the table and chairs were right there in the middle of the restaurant. Piled up. They didn't even bother to take it outside. Put all that aside - we get to the food. One of the best things Falafel King has were the "chips", which were battered slices of potatoes that were deep fried. These were slices of potato, they were potato chips. Thin. No "meat" on them, if you know what I mean. And sadly, they were fried either early this morning or last night. Terrible, cold, hard, no taste - not even salt. We move on the falafel - which tasted good. The taste of the falafel itself was good, but the oil dripping down my hand an face was not. I blame that on the oil not being hot enough when he put the falafel into the oil. Next, the actual shwarma is not really shwarma (like you all know it). There was no revolving slab of meat where the fat melts into the meat and makes it so so special. No. This was a little baggy of already cooked meat with no spices on it thrown on the plancha and heated up. Hard and tasteless. Very disappointing. I picked it out of my pita and ate the salad with tehina and spicy eggplant (which WAS tasty). The pita is also a thin hard pita - not the nice fluffy type. I didn't finish my food, and my friend didn't finish the food, as you can see in the pictures. Sorry to give it a 1 - but to say you have ANY connection to "Falafel King" is a disgrace. Sorry if I sound brutal. I tell it like it is.

Also a side of the Za'atar/sumac fries. Fries came out first PIPING hot, crispy, seasoned perfectly nom nom. The entrees quickly followed. The lamb was so tender and juicy and bursting with flavor. And the fried chicken was AMAZING. Shwarma that is breaded with an amazing mixture and fried. Genius! The plates also came with hummus topped with whole chickpeas (YUM), dilled rice, a cabbage salad and other greens, grilled pita bread, olives and my personal favorite, pickled radishes. Many reviews describe them as beets (which I also love) but these are radishes and they pair so well with the rich meat. An umami bomb! Portions HUGE (we have a full meal waiting in the fridge) and prices very reasonable. Patio is a very fun hang with pretty lights. My only knock is on the chairs which are not exactly "comfy." That said, the lamb itself was just a few small pieces and it was ground. I would've preferred more actual meat Tried the rosemary lemonade too, but didn't really taste any rosemary. Just a regular lemonade, slightly sweet and sour. Also you pay upfront right after ordering. We sat outside on a small patio facing Glendale Blvd. It's a tight space, and at one point someone from the street was walking around nearby talking to themselves, which made the experience a bit less comfortable.
