they are so nice in here I rented a bike for 24 hours and he told me I didn't have to bring it back until closing then next day. so two full days with a beach bike for $40. it was so fun to bike on hard sand at the beach all the way to Anastasia State Park Then I biked several times to get groceries at the Publix and Winn Dixie. The bike had a big basket

A person wearing a black wetsuit is surfing on a wave, balancing on a blue and white surfboard. The sky is overcast with gray clouds, and the surfer is positioned on the crest of the wave, with water splashing around. The scene captures a moment of surfing activity outdoors.

My friend Dave and I took a lesson with Pat and it was awesome!!!! Highly recommend him. Very knowledgeable and gave a lot of good advice, tons of fun. The shop is well stocked and perfect location, few short steps to the beach. What more could you want.

This is our 2nd year vacationing in St. Augustine. Last year we rented surf boards from the Pit Surf Shop and thought we'd be able to wing it on our own. Boy did we underestimate how difficult surfing is! We decided the next time we were in the area, we were going to book a surf lesson. Scheduling was easy, we did it over the phone but I believe you can also book online as well. We had a group 4 that included 2 ladies and 2 girls (age 11). For groups of 4, the cost was $60 per person and included two instructors. We had EXTREMELY windy weather conditions and the instructors did their best to ensure we still had a good time and stayed safe. Our instructors were Shelby and Nevin. It was very hard to carry the boards with all the wind and both Shelby and Nevin helped us gals out. This was much appreciated! Shelby went above and beyond to look for good waves and not push us to take just any wave. While we definitely didn't "hang ten", everyone enjoyed themselves and we made some fun memories. Having such strong winds did make it hard for the instructors but they were troopers!

Great surf shop here. Brodie helped us. He was a really cool dude! I noticed that Yelp had given them a Yelp Award on the wall behind the cash register. They did not have much in Ernie's size. We were a little disappointed about that. Most surfers are of a younger and smaller stature, so, they don't get too much full size sweat jackets and shirts, which is understandable. They had a wonderful selection of clothing, jackets, a kids section of stuff, sunglasses and hats. I see they also rents surfboards as well. That's what it's all about, right? I used to surf back in the day. Miss those days.

My Hemp Rainbow slippahs, (see my review) I love em.

I didn't blow out my flip flip, but I could not cruise on back home because I made a amateur mistake and left them in San Diego when I visited Margaritaville (Saint Augustine Beach) I've had leather Rainbow Slippahs (Hawaiian word) for 30 years. Will at the shop pointed out a pair of Hemp Rainbows that until recently weren't even legal. I figured an extra pair of Zories (Japanese word) never hurt. So I bought the Flip Flops (Florida word) and I love them. They have a different feel on the bottom of my feet, not slippery even when wet, kind of like burlap. The softer burlap strap didn't even give the usual blister. We'll see how they hold up at home in San Diego when they get wet, dry, get wet, dry, etc. etc. But for now thanks Will for the rec., I love my new beach shoes (NY word).

    So fun!

What a great day for our girl! John was an amazing instructor and was perfect for our 10 year old girl. He was encouraging and very helpful. This was her first time surfing and she was able to get up and ride a wave in many, many times! Highly recommend this shop! Ask for John!

Men's and women's clothing, great brands, boards, all good things.

Visited Pit to pick up some beach attire which wouldn't make me look like a complete tourist. Pit Surf Shop didn't disappoint. The store has a great selection of brands. Bodie (a.k.a. The Bodie) took me through the store's merchandise and was an all around chill dude. Stay away from those big box tourist traps and stop by Pit for your beachwear, surf rentals and purchases. You won't be disappointed.

Surf camp, first day success. They never surfed before!

So friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! There are quite a few surf shops to pick from in St. Augustine, but this should be your first stop!

Ask the Community - Pit Surf Shop

How good do I need to swim to start taking surf lessons at the Pit?

Charlie, good question. You do need to be a relatively strong swimmer to take surf lessons. You will be attached to a large flotation device (the surfboard) by a leash, but it is possible for the leash to break, in which case you will need to be… Read more

My son chose a 7 ft hard board as waves were only 1 to 2 feet and he had a great time at the beach down the street.

I want to give a huge thank you and shout out to Pure Life Surf School!!…read more What an absolute amazing group of men and women who clearly love what they do! We signed up my niece for their one week summer camp this past week and right out of the gate they had us all hooked. My niece, who is shy, wasn't forced into doing any kind of forced introductions to others, instead, campers are separated into age and ability groups where everyone was very much on the same playing field keeping things anxiety free and natural. She and the other newbies were constantly reinforced by the amazing instructors as well as the more advanced kids. Just so much positive energy pouring out of this Pure Life camp! My niece is now hooked on surfing and it's ALL she talks about now. She even made all new friends with whom she was excited to see every morning. We definitely are going to find a way to sign her up again this summer. So for anyone looking for something new and fun to enroll their kiddos in for the summer please look into Pure Life Surf School. All their details are on their website as far as pricing for classes or private lessons. LJ the owner and active instructor is amazing and he really built a solid team of people who you can trust to care for and teach your little ones! Extra Extra shout out to Hayden who was our groups instructor, her patience playfulness and passion to pass on the love of the sport to these little ones is just out of this world. Couldn't have had a better experience!!

The beach location was beautiful and the instructor showed up on time with good equipment. e spent more time practicing on the sand than actually surfing, and once in the water, the instructor gave minimal feedback before leaving us mostly on our own. The "guaranteed to stand up" promise in their email turned out to be more of a marketing line than reality, and the session ended awkwardly with a long wait for the boards to be collected and no clear wrap-up. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but for the price and reputation, I expected a more organized and engaging lesson.
