Pure Life Surf School - She's up

Pure Life Surf School

I want to give a huge thank you and shout out to Pure Life Surf School!!…read more What an absolute amazing group of men and women who clearly love what they do! We signed up my niece for their one week summer camp this past week and right out of the gate they had us all hooked. My niece, who is shy, wasn't forced into doing any kind of forced introductions to others, instead, campers are separated into age and ability groups where everyone was very much on the same playing field keeping things anxiety free and natural. She and the other newbies were constantly reinforced by the amazing instructors as well as the more advanced kids. Just so much positive energy pouring out of this Pure Life camp! My niece is now hooked on surfing and it's ALL she talks about now. She even made all new friends with whom she was excited to see every morning. We definitely are going to find a way to sign her up again this summer. So for anyone looking for something new and fun to enroll their kiddos in for the summer please look into Pure Life Surf School. All their details are on their website as far as pricing for classes or private lessons. LJ the owner and active instructor is amazing and he really built a solid team of people who you can trust to care for and teach your little ones! Extra Extra shout out to Hayden who was our groups instructor, her patience playfulness and passion to pass on the love of the sport to these little ones is just out of this world. Couldn't have had a better experience!!

My partner and I booked a beginner lesson with Pure Life Surf School in Florida after seeing so…read moremany great reviews, but our experience didn't quite live up to the hype. The beach location was beautiful and the instructor showed up on time with good equipment. e spent more time practicing on the sand than actually surfing, and once in the water, the instructor gave minimal feedback before leaving us mostly on our own. The "guaranteed to stand up" promise in their email turned out to be more of a marketing line than reality, and the session ended awkwardly with a long wait for the boards to be collected and no clear wrap-up. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but for the price and reputation, I expected a more organized and engaging lesson.

My three grandsons visited for spring break this year. While they were here I signed them up for…read moresurf lessons with Rick at Surfari surf shop. When you take surf lessons with Rick you don't just get some paid employee that runs you through a "program". You get the owner of the business that tailors the lessons to your individual abilities and needs. My three grandsons are 17, 15 and 11. None of them had ever surfed. Rick started them out on the sand showing them where to positon themselves on the board and how to get from the prone to standing position. He told us at the beginning of the lesson his goal was to get all three of them "up" riding a wave. I thought he was being optimistic since the lesson was 1.5 hours with three kids but I was wrong. During the lesson all three boys were able to get up and ride a wave. They were thrilled. Rick stays in the water with them the entire lesson going from one to the other helping them steady on the board and pushing them off when needed. After the lesson Rick lets you use the boards and if you need them wetsuits to practice so we stayed at the beach for a few hours while the boys practiced. I can't say enough about how Rick connected with the boys. He was engaged with them the entire time. For what you get the price is fantastic. Individual instruction and the use of the equipment to practice makes it totally worth it. We took my oldest grandson back for a 1 hour individual instruction the next day and now he is hooked on surfing. I can't say enough about how good of an experience this was for my grandsons.

Moving to the sunny state of Florida, we wanted to introduce our kids to the joy of outdoors and…read moreeverything the beach can offer. So, when my friend came to visit us we figured what better than surfing lessons? My husband met Ryan Ragan of Vast Oceans when Ryan was teaching another class. Ryan was patient, thorough and prepared. Our experience was that Ryan was not only prepared for our children with right size boards, but had a tent up for the parents to relax in the shade on a very hot day. (Chair not included. So bring one!). Ryan went over board safety, how to fall properly so as to not get hurt, when to exit the board so as to not get hurt, proper board care, style and grace, how to get out into the surf, the steps of getting up on the board. He helps the kids get confidence and comfort. He does not push them to go beyond comfort zone but continuously reminds them what steps they will be doing. He is patient and kind. Definitely wants kids to have the joy of surfing and solid instruction. What to bring: long sleeved sun shirt (aka rash guard) sunscreen for legs and all other exposed areas, towel, chair (if you want to sit) your cell phone or camera for some great photo opportunity's if you are watching. Bring a snack and drink. You will have a break and it's a great time to get hydrated and apply sunscreen on legs again. Don't forget to tip!
