Our kids have attended St Augustine Surf School for many years now, and it is always a big highlight in our summer. Dustin and Lauren and their team have created a super special experience for all that attend - I have never seen a participant who wasn't having a great time whether out in the surf or playing one of their fun beach games! They really know how to make it FUN for all ages and levels! The team's positivity, care and coaching skills have made for a real resilience and confidence building experience for all that attend. I love watching my boys go after wave after wave and when they have a great ride the happiness and confidence it gives them. And when they are in a lull, I notice the counselors giving them encouragement and helping them out. As a family business, they really invest in each camp and create a great experience for everyone. At this point, after years of instruction, my kids surf on their own and have even taught friends, but they still get a lot from camp every year due to the experienced staff (including Dustin and Lauren's daughters!) and their ability to attend to all levels. It's great how they break out into groups so that each kid gets attention according to skill and age. I recommend this camp to all of my friends as one of my very favorites - thank you Dustin and Lauren for sharing your skills, passion and joy with so many. Our son had THE most fun time, EVER! Dustin was very warm and welcoming. Our son had a different instructor each day, which was fantastic and gave him really unique coaching perspectives. He had Cole one day and Ian another day, and both were excellent and pushed him hard to excel. We come from a part of FL where there is no surfing, and they both pushed him and knew he could do well, and he did. He had a great time and immediately wanted to rent or buy a board after his first lesson. This was our son's first time ever on a surfboard, and within the first 15 minutes he was paddling out and riding waves like he had been doing it for years. We were really impressed! The whole school was run in such a professional manner, but really fun for all the kids! We did the private one-on-one lessons, but there was a camp going going on and that looked like a lot of fun as well, and we can definitely see coming over for that! All the kids were having a spectacular time - and so were the parents! Really highly recommend - just a great organization all around! Coach Dustin and team - you killed it again!!! This was my daughter's 3rd year of surf camp. Dustin and his great team of instructors make every minute fun - from sufing to beach games and all the time in between - even (and especially) for tweens and teens. My daughter's skill level and confidence continue to improve; she is getting up on almost every wave, riding them all the way in practically every time and starting to master turning too. The campers and counselors are all so kind and welcoming, and she has returned home every summer with new friends despite not knowning a soul at the start of camp. She asks to travel to St. Augustine year after year so she can attend surf camp - and we are happy to do it because of the positive and enjoyable experience she has. We have taken a mother-daughter lesson at the end of the week for the last 3 years as well and it's an experience that I love sharing with my daughter. Dustin has been our instructor each time and has made the lesson so enjoyable for us both. I wish we lived closer and could surf with St. Augustine Surf School more frequently. Thanks a million. My daughter is 7. We took a first time lesson once with the owner before we did the camp to make sure she would be interested in it. The owner is awesome. He started with offshore training and they were in the water quickly. He is patient, kind and attentive. My daughter really enjoyed the lesson and then totally enjoyed the camp. There were a ton of instructors, all attentive to the kids. Plenty of time surfing with snack breaks and a play break. My daughter started to get scared of the waves. The owner did a one on one to get her back in the water the last 5 minutes of a camp after we told him. An awesome way to push her past her fear. The instructors catered to her, working with her out in the waves , but then also in the shallow end. We are very happy with the entire staff and the camp. Really glad we found St. Augustine Surf school. Crescent beach is also a beautiful beach for surfing! read more

Great surf camp!!! I highly recommend this camp. My littles loved their instructors. Nice that the kids were broken up into small groups of about 4 per instructor. My littles had a blast learning and I was blown away they got up on their first wave ride and took it all the way to the shore. Kids did warm ups, played games everyday, a surfing contest (which they loved, on the last day) and a pizza party on the last day as well. Dustin was so easy to work with getting kids signed up and really seems to enjoy working with the kids. Easy beach access, especially if you have 4WD, to drive on the beach. I don't know who was more exhausted from the surf, sun and fun at the end of camp..the kids or me. Thanks St Augustine Surf School for the great summer experience. read more

Looking for the best surf camp? You found it! We are so happy with this camp. There is a very high ratio of instructors to students. This is so important because the ocean can be a dangerous place. The staff really cares about your child actually learning to surf, not like some other camps in town were they build sandcastles. My daughter was surfing on her first day. The focus is very positive and nurturing. Dustin and his family are lovely. My child has gone for 2 years in a row and will go next summer as well. Also as a bonus we recieved AmaZing action photos taken in the water of our daughter surfing! We had tried 2 other surf camps before we found Dustin. This is the BEST one! After trying another surf camp, we found Dustin and Lauren 6 summers ago. Both of my grandsons (12 and 8) have been going here every summer since. This camp is so wonderful. Not only do the boys get great surf instruction, which has been fantastic to watch them learn and improve every year, they have so much fun. It is such a loving, kind family vibe. You can see the children's faces in the photos. Of all the time, that I have spent sitting on the beach watching, I have never once seen an unhappy child. All is see are smiles and laughter. Out second summer with Dustin was another amazing surf adventure. The waves started out just right for my 8 and 12 year old kids to get their legs back and they were back up surfing around in no time. Counselors were super fun, coming up with all kinds of clever games to keep the kids fully engaged at all times. Breaks on the beach with land games were a great way to mix it up. Dustin keeps a close eye on all the kids and has a fantastic group of fun counselors. My kids are completely whipped at the end of each day and wake up in the mornings eager to get back in the surf. For land sharks like us, our week at surf camp is a highlight of the summer for the whole family. read more

Surf camp: This was the 2nd year of surf camp for my daughter (age 12). She loved it so much last year that we came back - across the state! - for another week this year. Dustin, Lauren and the whole gang make learning fun with plenty of games and goofing off - and instilled a love of the sport. My daughter could do it all day, and even consistently caught her own waves! Great communication before camp so we knew exactly what to expect. And the included are awesome!! Private lesson: Booked a mother-daughter lesson two years running, and had so much fun with Dustin! He offered small tweaks to help make our rides both more successful and enjoyable. I did a private lesson. I ended up booking a second lesson the same week because I got so much out of the first lesson. I was nervous to take a surf lesson because I felt I was too old, but I've really wanted some help figuring things out correctly. The instructor was awesome and I could tell that he enjoyed what he did and he had a lot of experience surfing that was fun to learn about. I really appreciated the technical feedback and tips so when I did something wrong or weird I knew what to focus on or watch out for. I would absolutely recommend taking a lesson here , regardless of age or experience. read more

Awesome experience. We were visiting friends in Florida and decided to have our children try surfing after reading the reviews on St Augustine Surf School. My 11 year old boy Taro wanted a private lesson in the morning. Dakota was excellent. My son can not stop raving about him. He was up surfing in no time. We had 4 other children taking a group lesson in the afternoon and Taro decided he wanted to do it again he loved so much. John and Chris were amazing. I am 30 years old, from Florida and always wanted to surf. I've had friends take me out with them saying they "would show me how" and never had any success... As a coach of other sports/movements/professions I was curious to how the lesson was going to be structured etc... I had a one on one session and he had me standing up in no time. I felt comfortable and he offered great cues and instruction that I could comprehend and execute. Worth every penny and once I practice what I have learned for a bit I will be going back for another one on one session to keep getting better. read more

Dustin was extremely helpful arranging the lesson and arranging subsequent board rentals. He was a very nice guy to work with. We had lessons for 4 and loved them! Our ages ranged from 10yo-48yo. Shawn (sp) and Dakota were great instructors...very helpful and informative. None of us had any experience surfing, but with their help we were successful within an hour. (successful=able to stay up and ride a wave multiple times.) We will likely sign up for a camp or another lesson if/when we return. My son has been attending this surf school for three years now, and we absolutely love it! The instructors are amazing -- skilled, kind, and so great with the kids. My son looks forward to every session and has learned so much over the years. I always feel completely confident leaving him in their care, which means I can actually relax and enjoy the beach while he's out surfing. Signed my 13 yo son up for surf camp. He'd never even touched a surf board and honestly had no desire to go. He was surfing on day 1 of camp and ended up loving it. The groups are small and instructors are right there at all times. They also provide the surf board. I was never worried for his safety. Your kid doesn't need to be athletic. All the children, all ages, were surfing by the end of the week. My son's favorite instructor was Dakota, who made the experience fun and was a great teacher. Great experience for all 5 boys in our party! The two teens started with a lesson, and then the younger boys had the following lesson. Mike was awesome with the teenagers - he had two novices up and surfing on their first try - and Devin was equally patient and skilled with the younger boys. All 5 boys enjoyed the experience and got lots of good time up on the boards. I would highly recommend Devin and Mike to anyone. Their success in making our teenage boys excited and smiling was one of the highlights of our vacation. read more

BEST.CAMP.EVER!!! No , honestly if anyone reading this has any reservations, I can assure you this will be a camp for your kiddo/s to remember. We just finished our week with St Augustine Surf School and were all a little sad its over. Our girls had so much fun and were surfing from day one to learning cool tricks by the end of the week! By far Dustin was the best surf instructor I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Over the last few years I've taken one kid to surf class. I attend each time as well. He was super patient and was able to modify the lesson for my needs. I've never been able to stand until now. Having vertigo makes balancing very difficult. Simple changes got me up and a position that I could use that no one has showed me before. Great with kids too! I'm pretty cynical, but I can't think of anything that could have made this a better experience. Dustin was super cool and got right down to the good stuff. After a quick intro to the board and some basic maneuvering, we got into the surf so I could practice falling off the board. He would position the board and call commands, so I got to focus just on paddling and standing up. That made it a lot easier than trying to take on all the different aspects at once.
