So, when my friend came to visit us we figured what better than surfing lessons? My husband met Ryan Ragan of Vast Oceans when Ryan was teaching another class. Ryan was patient, thorough and prepared. Our experience was that Ryan was not only prepared for our children with right size boards, but had a tent up for the parents to relax in the shade on a very hot day. (Chair not included. So bring one!). Ryan went over board safety, how to fall properly so as to not get hurt, when to exit the board so as to not get hurt, proper board care, style and grace, how to get out into the surf, the steps of getting up on the board. He helps the kids get confidence and comfort. He does not push them to go beyond comfort zone but continuously reminds them what steps they will be doing. He is patient and kind. Definitely wants kids to have the joy of surfing and solid instruction. What to bring: long sleeved sun shirt (aka rash guard) sunscreen for legs and all other exposed areas, towel, chair (if you want to sit) your cell phone or camera for some great photo opportunity's if you are watching. Bring a snack and drink. You will have a break and it's a great time to get hydrated and apply sunscreen on legs again. Don't forget to tip!

I was hoping I could get in that afternoon because I was going to be busy with work the rest of the week. Ryan got back with me before I landed and was happy to say he'd fit me in a couple hours after I landed. He said he's been at it all day, but wanted to fit me in (we ended up going to 6.30 or so). I had read around at some lesson reviews in the area, and I saw numerous ones that gave me the idea that I probably wouldn't even be standing up on the board that day -- but hey, I was gonna get in what I could. To my amazement, Ryan had me up on a board and riding within the hour. I was ecstatic since I wasn't even expecting to get up on the board at all. At the end of the set, he was sure to push me to get a good one in so I could end it on a smile instead of a fall. Killer lesson, had a blast and I'm hooked now. Really wish I could've made it back for more that week. Anyway -- super personable and nice guy. Thanks Ryan! I'll definitely swing in again the next time I'm through there.

Fortunately for us, all we wanted was a quiet therapuetic beach getaway so that we could get our tan on. We got half the deal, but sadly it rained for a good part of our get away. So what to do when it rains? Call Down to Earth and make an appointment to spend some time with Heather. If you get a her voice-mail, she is quick to respond. Make an appointment even if it's not raining! You can build in an hour of your time to do something very worthwhile! Her pottery studio is right by Break Awayz (read my review and go there too!) It's small and parking is across the street on the beach side. I already liked her studio when I walked in and heard country tunes playing on her Bluetooth. She was very patient with my 3 girls and was attentive when each one needed help with a particular skill. Even my 4 year old was able to independently navigate the potter's wheel after Heather guided her and gave her thorough instructions. (The step by step instructions are also listed on a board if you forget. ) The girls half way finished bowls looked worthy enough of Pottery Barn dishware. They have yet to glaze them, but I know they'll turn out beautiful. Not only do we get to walk away with lovely art work, but my girls enjoyed a rainy afternoon together as well. Trust me. Spending a little time here and then heading over next door for a hearty oatmeal stout and poke nachos, will be just as therapeutic as your time laying on the beach.

Carly Caldwell, the owner of this establishment continued to charge me for lessons I wasn't receiving during my daughter's illness. I wrote a letter to stop payment, she then sent that letter to my bank in order to prevent reimbursement of services not received. Her and I even spoke by phone and although I thought we would reach a resolution, she never called me back. It's sad to me that my daughter was never able to finish and during a difficult time of illness with my child, Carly put an additional $180 in her own pocket as a result.

We missed one scheduled session (two 15 minutes) and asked to make it up if they have a cancellation. They allowed to make up one, but told us their policy does not allow to make up the other. Lack of customer service is always a bad business judgment. A good business needs to have some flexibility in their policies and customer appreciation, especially that this was the only time during the past 7 months that we've missed. It doesn't cost them much to allow a make up during a cancellation because the coach is still in the pool. I have cancelled lessons for both kids because my policy is not to give business to a business that does not appreciate me as a customer.

They've been in business a while, and have figured out how to rip people off. Jeff says he's going to call sheriff on me. The guy Jeff is out of his mind, I definitely do not recommend this Advanced Rider Training. They want you to fail, so they get the money, and don't have to do anything. You have been warned. My family has lived in NSB, Volusia County for over 4 generations. I know everyone here, and they will know how much this school is a rip off from the start.

You probably will not find another school in Utah where all teachers are graduated and took TESOL classes. I took their TOEFL classes and I was able to get an amazing score in the exam AND be accepted into university (BYU). All of their classes are very useful and will help you be prepared to become a college student. I studied in another language school and I didn't have a good experience because the teachers were not as prepared as the ones who work at Selnate. Don't choose a school just because it's cheaper! If you take your education seriously, choose Selnate! They won't disappoint you!

When I got health insurance from the school, I paid the most expensive one for covering everything, but I was so surprised when I got the insurance card because it covered nothing. I don't think all my payments worth it. For international students, please think twice before making your own decisions or sign everything in paper instead of verbal agreement!
