I just completed my PADI open water certification course with Steve Bohanan at Sea Hunt Scuba. I can't say enough about how great the experience was. Steve is an outstanding instructor and real gentleman. He is extremely patient and goes out of his way to make the course fun as well as making sure you succeed (but he does require his students to perform everything successfully, to his credit, before they can get certified.). The facilities at Sea Hunt are great, the equipment is top notch, and the prices for purchased gear are very competitive with anything you will find online, plus you get the advice of Steve and Curtis before buying. I have been able to compare my certification experience with many others, and the training I got from Steve is far better and more thorough than that provided by many other shops. One of the most important diving skills is learning how to stay neutrally buoyant so that it is possible to hover in the water or swim forward without rising or sinking. We went for several dives in the Caribbean after getting certified. When we went on our first Caribbean dive, we explained we were novices, so our guide insisted on testing our buoyancy skills before he would let us swim over the reefs. I am 60 years old and finally decided to do what I have wanted for most of my life...To get SCUBA certified ! I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. I absolutely recommend Sea Hunt Scuba! Steve and Curtis are great guys and have a fantastic dive shop and training facility. They only carry quality gear and will assist you to ensure that you make the best decisions for yourself. I love the fit and quality of the preliminary gear that I needed to purchase for the class, thanks to Curtis' recommendations. They have an indoor heated pool that you will use for training and can utilize for refreshing your skills or trying out new gear. I can't say enough about our instructor, Tommy. He is amazing ! His skills, passion for SCUBA, patience and calm demeanor, made this a perfect experience for me, and for the rest of our class. He does a great job of presenting all the dive information and techniques in an easy and fun way, and he has an incredible talent for making people feel calm and comfortable underwater. Steve Bohanan is the man! Just got through taking lessons with him and Sea Hunt Scuba and what an amazing experience. The passion, excitement and joy that is brought not only to the classroom but the actual lessons is superb. Learning from Steve was like diving with a long time friend. He teaches you the dangers of diving; explaining everything beforehand on the surface, demonstrating underwater and then having you preform the lesson. This makes for a very comfortable and calm setting. The age group ranges from young to older and he took his time to make sure everyone was learning at the same pace, spending extra time with the ones that needed it and having others practice skills. Steve is a knowledgeable and patient instructor who knows how to make even the most terrified student feel confident in their ability to accomplish any task. I just completed my open water scuba certification class and was very impressed by how professional everyone was. The owner helped me to purchase needed scuba equipment and was very informative without ever pushing higher cost gear. My scuba instructor Tyler was amazing! He takes his years of dive experience and makes it feel effortless. I had an unbelievable experience receiving my open water dive certification. Before my training ended, I had already decided I wanted to take the next step towards getting my advanced certification, and maybe even become a rescue diver. Learning all of the required skills was a fun time, but once that was done I was actually able to look for fossils in different springs. My dive instructor, Chris, at Sea Hunt Scuba, was patient, supportive and very helpful when I struggled with a skill. This facility is by far the best at what they do. Being able to swim underwater for more than five minutes is incredible, and being able to learn the skills required was awesome. I have been diving with Steve and Curtis for over 15 years. They maintain a professional atmosphere and only stock the top of the line equipment. My husband and I both were certified at Sea Hunt with Curtis and Steve! They both have a little different style to them but both are so knowledgeable, professional, and patient we were able to ease right into the sport with no problems.....I swear Steve had to have gone up and down with me 15+ times just equalizing my ears the first day!!! I have been a customer of Sea Hunt Scuba since 2004 and dive two to three times a month with Sea Hunt. Steve and Curtis run a great shop and great dive trips here in Florida.
