The hubs & I first purchased our 4x4 vehicle permit at Vilano Beach, expecting miles & miles of sand to tear up.. we were met with less than a mile stretch of beach which was popular for fishing but not for off-roading or sun bathing. The attendant was nice enough to recommend we head to Anastasia Island which was a God send. The permit which cost $10 was good at any St. John's county beach access for the day. We stumbled upon Crescent Beach (on A Island) & conveniently found Barney's Beach Service 904-461-1422 and rented out an umbrella and 2 chairs ($50 from 10-4pm) The weather was perfect: a couple clouds spread across the sky, a cool 77 degree water temperature made it all the more easier to bask in the sun. And the sand was off white & powdery to the touch. I couldn't help but notice how peaceful the atmosphere was here. This trip ended up being just what the doctor ordered.

Our cook was friendly, personable, and did an outstanding job preparing the meal. Best of all, we didn't have to lift a finger. They brought everything we needed--tablecloths, utensils, seasonings, and all the supplies--so we could simply relax and enjoy time together. It was all the fun and flavor of a classic seafood boil without any of the daunting prep or cleanup, especially for a group our size. A lot of the funky crazy decor and old fishing equipment (nets, poles, traps) is gone. They've replaced the old glass tables and chairs made of drift wood with plain old industrial style decor that feels boring a like a millennial burger joint--not like a nice creek side restaurant. A lot of the original decor is gone. I always get the three way shrimp. I went a few days ago and my grits were room temperature. The "stuffed shrimp" had uncooked crab dough balls on it so I didn't finish those. I pretty much only ended up eating the BBQ shrimp because I lost my appetite. When we made it back to our room, I actually got sick. This has been absolutely heartbreaking for me. I understand that things change! But this has not been a good change. I have been back many times over the last few years and the quality of the food has not been the same and the taste is not as good. My family has had mixed experiences with them as well over these last few years under new ownership. As upsetting as it is and as much as this restaurant has always meant to me, I don't think I can go back--especially not after my food made me sick.
