I brought my 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport to Piston Lube on 8/6/26 for an oil change. The following day, I discovered that the undercarriage/skid plate was hanging down and dragging while I drove.
I contacted the location and returned for an inspection. Ryan, the attendant, told me the cover had been damaged from dragging and that the mounting pin holes had been shaved down. He secured it with three zip ties.
I immediately explained that zip ties were not an acceptable permanent repair and that I should not have to have them cut and replaced every time I get a future oil change. I was told the general manager would contact me. He never did.
I ultimately left four messages, made two website inquiries, sent two emails to the company's service email, and attempted to reach company leadership. Despite all of this, I received no response from the general manager.
On 8/18 I returned to the shop and was finally able to speak of the area manager, Mike, in person who told me that management was denying responsibility altogether. He said there was no way to know whether the damage existed beforehand because the skid plate is plastic. He called "his boss" and after ending the phone call, explained they are denying the claim and refused to discuss the matter or engage further, told me to leave the property, and told me to "do what I had to do."
There is also a skid-plate disclaimer printed on the invoice I was eventually given. However, I was not given the invoice on the date of service because I was told their printer was overheating. I did not sign or acknowledge the disclaimer, and it was not presented to me before the service.
The situation has now gotten worse. I took the vehicle in for a damage estimate and was informed that the zip ties installed by Piston Lube are still present, but the skid plate itself is now completely missing. It apparently separated from the zip ties and came off the vehicle. The estimate for the replacement is $442.75.
This is no longer simply a disagreement over normal wear and tear. I have a missing vehicle component following service, a repair/replacement expense, and a company that has refused to meaningfully investigate or communicate with me.
I have filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General and am documenting the matter.
I would strongly recommend that customers inspect their vehicles carefully after service at this location and make sure anything removed during an oil change is properly reinstalled and secured before leaving. read more
