The place has changed alot in 9 months ago when I visited it, the staff has changed and they no longer seem to care about what they are doing, the tables and chairs are old and dusty, is like the furniture is from another century but without any style. This restaurant was super convenient to where we were staying. The staff were very nice and hospitable. The food was quite enjoyable. The light airey tomato bread was delicious but so were all the dishes we ordered. Tomato egg and ham and the steak were my favorites. The sangria was devine. The culture her is more relaxed. They were not trying to get us out to turn over the tables. Love the interior design! The color scheme was very pleasing. We started off with olives which were delicious. I'm not a big olive person but my fiancé is so this is based off his experience. So believe me if he says they're good then that means they really are! Next I ordered chicken mushroom garlic dish. I am knew to the eating portions in Europe so the small amount I was served was surprising but wonderful. It was packed with delicious flavor and satisfying. A fantastic place to bring the family if you're in this part of Barcelona! We actually ate here twice during our stay and loved each occasion. Some of the best tapas to try were the mature beef slices, potatoes, and calamari. Our kids loved this place as they got the opportunity to try several different dishes. Their drink menu was stellar as well, with a plethora of different options. We tried the sangria and the mojitos and were NOT disappointed. Staying at the Hilton right next door, we were 30 seconds away from our home away from home - how lucky we were that this place was so good! Picolabis is a Tapas bar in Barcelona, I called in here to spend my first night in the Catalan capital, hoping to get something to eat however I left disappointed and hungry. This place is in a decent location, just off a street with lots of shops, and next to a Starbucks however to get in there is a very poor small ramp or steps, the premier is quite poor and dangerous in my opinion. When I entered the building, it had a poor feel to it especially inside, it seemed the only atmosphere it had, was outside and with it being late in the evening, I didn't want to spend my evening meal outside in the pitch black and slight cold. I asked the waiter about the gluten free selection, or sans gluten in Spanish, I did originally struggle to get through and other than Squid and Salad, he seemed unable to offer me anything. The waiter barely understood english, and he did seem to try his best but he simply lacked knowledge on what I could eat, the menu was also hard to understand and was mainly just pictures which I didn't like either, in the end I decided to walk out so sadly due to the selection and service received and other factors mentioned, I feel Piscolabis deserves a single one star. read more

The worst was seeing late-teen and early 20 year old females, rolling their own with papers and a tobacco pouch (legal stuff, not grass) as they walk down the street. I digress. The place was at overflow, out onto the sidewalk, one night. It was because Real Madrid and Barcelona were playing a game of futbol in town and the whole city was at bars and restaurants watching on big screens. Game ended in a tie of 2-2, so everyone was equally pissed. We were pissed because the Barcelona Metro workers of the subway system chose that Sunday to strike and none of the subway trains were running until after the game was over. Damn fools just wanted to get drunk all day and watch the game. Piscolabis has lots bright lights from the street so it gets your attention. This restaurant serves tapas such as jamon iberico, sardinas, gambas, calamares, meat balls, croquettes, and a DELICIOUS potato ball. etc... The restaurant is cozy and comfortable and the layout is pleasant. The servers are super friendly and they will help you if needed. The food tastes average and the only really great thing is the potato ball because the potato ball is soft and it has it's own unique flavor. I can not even explain it, just go try it. I was starving so I decided to get something to eat right next door at Piscolabis. It is a tapas restaurant right next door to the hotel so I didn't have to wander far. The menu is quite large but most of what I wanted to try was absent from the menu. I couldn't complain too much because it was pretty early on a Sunday. He also suggested pretty good replacements. I mean you can't really complain that much when you are selecting from over 60 dishes. I had the pan con tomate. It was simple, but you really get the freshness of the tomatoes. It's only charred bread that it is rubbed with tomatoes. I know you might be thinking "what's so great about that?" It's because the tomatoes have such a vibrant flavor of tomatoes. It's almost like eating a tomato for the first time. The bread is perfect too. It is very light and chewy and has this really crisp crust. Next up I got a chance to try the ham croquettes. Being from Miami, and ham croquettes being a staple of Cuban cuisine, I've had much more than my fair share of ham croquettes over the years. These were however the best that I've ever had. The quality of the ham goes a long way and the fatty nature of it gives you a croquette that is most and crisp on the outside. The richness of the food I had didn't stop there as I ended up getting the foie gras cannelloni as well. It was an absolute triumph as the pasta was cooked absolutely perfectly. It also had this great rich sauce that was slightly earthy. I also had the vegetable tempura with romesco sauce. My favorite this array of fired vegetables was the asparagus. The light batter that only a tempura can provide was perfect for it. The romseco brought in the brightness of the sweet ripe tomatoes that are throughout Europe. European tomatoes are better than any I've ever had in the US. The food was so good that I ate there twice on my trip. read more

They obviously cater to a large international crowd based on their adjacent-ness to the Hilton across the way (the menu is mostly photos that you can point to if you don't speak English, French, or Japanese), but I don't know if anything can make it okay to have a Hanna Montana mini burger, Winnie the Pooh Pasta, and Hello Kitty "pancakes" which look suspiciously like a quesadilla. Right down the street from my hotel. I liked the setting and decor. It is right on Diagonal and you can sit outside if you like. If you are American just remember where you are. I like this place. Food is really good and prices are fair. Wait staff are nice, but they get frazzled easily which can result in inattentive service. They have Menus in various languages and pictures of the food. I'm not sure I'd recommend for kids, based on the menu. Yet, everything is delicious. To sum up the experience, this place is nice for a quick bite, and conveniently located across from the Hilton Hotel, the nearby shopping centre and surrounding hotels. That being said, the food, drinks and service were 'average.' I dined here with colleagues for dinner and the consensus was that the meal was just adequate overall. We dined at about 7:30pm and the place was quite empty as that's 'early' for dinner in Spain, but this is one of the few places that was open for dinner at the time. A few of us ordered the house Sangria, which was diluted and disappointing. The menu was helpful in that it had pictures of the dishes plus English and Catalan labels; however, there were many dishes that seemed to be geared towards tourists rather than authentic Spanish cuisine, such as meatballs, a dish that looked like an 'Egg McMuffin' and chicken wings. The dishes that we really wanted were unavailable apparently, so we chose from a limited selection, including asaparagus with melted brie (just okay), chicken wings (typical), chicken curry kabas (pretty good), chicken stew (horrible and overcooked), fried seafood mix (terrible), and 'bikini sandwich (basically white bread with melted cheese and what we thought was ham - not good). There are far better restaurants in the area for a similar price point, although people may choose this as it's one of the few that has all day service and is located close to nearby hotels and the shopping centre. read more

Here in business and this place was next to the hotel so we decided to try it. The papatas braves (spicy potatoes) were probably the best I've had here. We also got the walnut and cheese croquettes which were rich but good. And the asparagus with brie which was perfectly cooked. My friend got the veal burger which he said was very good. I ordered the eggs with jamon which was a tad bit too salty (probably because of the ham) but cooked perfectly. The food came out quickly and the service was good, very friendly staff.
