Last night in town and I was feeling lazy and did not want to venture out for dinner. So since this place is right next to my hotel(Hilton), I decided to give it a try. I ordered several items and liked them all. My favorite by far was the fried artichokes. Fast and friendly service made this a great last night for me.

Love the interior design! The color scheme was very pleasing. We started off with olives which were delicious. I'm not a big olive person but my fiancé is so this is based off his experience. So believe me if he says they're good then that means they really are! Next I ordered chicken mushroom garlic dish. I am knew to the eating portions in Europe so the small amount I was served was surprising but wonderful. It was packed with delicious flavor and satisfying. Our waiter was kind enough to bring out some extra bread to accompany my meal. My fiancé ordered a burger, again small portion but satisfying. The aoli served along side was delicious!

A fantastic place to bring the family if you're in this part of Barcelona! We actually ate here twice during our stay and loved each occasion. Some of the best tapas to try were the mature beef slices, potatoes, and calamari. Our kids loved this place as they got the opportunity to try several different dishes. Their drink menu was stellar as well, with a plethora of different options. We tried the sangria and the mojitos and were NOT disappointed. Staying at the Hilton right next door, we were 30 seconds away from our home away from home - how lucky we were that this place was so good! Give it a try even if you're not staying in this area!

Picolabis is a Tapas bar in Barcelona, I called in here to spend my first night in the Catalan capital, hoping to get something to eat however I left disappointed and hungry. This place is in a decent location, just off a street with lots of shops, and next to a Starbucks however to get in there is a very poor small ramp or steps, the premier is quite poor and dangerous in my opinion. When I entered the building, it had a poor feel to it especially inside, it seemed the only atmosphere it had, was outside and with it being late in the evening, I didn't want to spend my evening meal outside in the pitch black and slight cold. I asked the waiter about the gluten free selection, or sans gluten in Spanish, I did originally struggle to get through and other than Squid and Salad, he seemed unable to offer me anything. The waiter barely understood english, and he did seem to try his best but he simply lacked knowledge on what I could eat, the menu was also hard to understand and was mainly just pictures which I didn't like either, in the end I decided to walk out so sadly due to the selection and service received and other factors mentioned, I feel Piscolabis deserves a single one star.

Very nice place directly across from the entrance to the Hilton Hotel on Diagonal. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/piscolabis-barcelona?userid=e_qnJqm6m4BKlNDp6-iO4Q#DhBfxe5hnoaAbfMEagidKw It is crowded every night with locals and tourists, alike. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/piscolabis-barcelona?userid=e_qnJqm6m4BKlNDp6-iO4Q#ecF-xXMMwcffiwb_73fibA Very diverse menu and low cost for the area which is mostly commercial businesses and company offices. We had the specials of the day which were very tasty. The seating area inside is very nice, so is the outside seating. The service personnel outside are a little lax in getting back to your table, since it distracts them from their smoke breaks and social time with each other. Ah, Spain, if it wasn't for the observation that everyone smokes - your country could be a very nice place. I know it sounds like hyperbole to say everyone smokes, but I swear I saw dogs smoking when they were out on walks with their owners. The worst was seeing late-teen and early 20 year old females, rolling their own with papers and a tobacco pouch (legal stuff, not grass) as they walk down the street. I digress. The place was at overflow, out onto the sidewalk, one night. It was because Real Madrid and Barcelona were playing a game of futbol in town and the whole city was at bars and restaurants watching on big screens. Game ended in a tie of 2-2, so everyone was equally pissed. We were pissed because the Barcelona Metro workers of the subway system chose that Sunday to strike and none of the subway trains were running until after the game was over. Damn fools just wanted to get drunk all day and watch the game. Ahh Spain, if you ever get your head out of your ass over the socialist welfare system you contrived, you could be a great country.

Enjoy the service and food here. Tried many side dishes and the ones that were above all else were the jamon frites and risotto with their house wine! Great hours and very fast service, highly recommend this place!

Really cheap tapas here, I got a tuna salad ($6), iced wine ($4), for breakfast I got s green juice ($3) and bacon and eggs. All the dishes were great, nothing amazing or different just cheap dishes to eat. Staffs were really kind! Causal place and the decor is nice. There's s parking garage next door where the Hilton hotel is.

Unbelievable service and the drinks are fat. Great time and food. Well worth a stop off.

Nice place, I came with my boyfriend, we had tomato & bread, croquettes, huevos estrellados and chistorra toast. Small sizes but good quality, they served us really fast.

Great service. Friendly and kindly spoke English with me sans attitude which is always refreshing. They take American Express which is also nice when travelling on business. Tapas were simple but delicious. Grilled asparagus with generous brie was lovely and traditional meatballs in yummy gravy was also a nice portion.

One of the worst places to have tapas in Barcelona... Very slow, dissipated wine, expensive ... What a terrible experience.

My friend and I had arrived early in Barcelona (10:00 am) and boy, were we HUNGRY. We had explored the entire shopping center and this was one of the only restaurants open before 1:00 pm. The server was very friendly and did her best to help us despite only a slight proficiency in English. She was awesome though! What we couldn't understand of each other we communicated through hand signals. Since this restaurant happened to serve salad and I had visions of whopping portions of paella, seafood, and tapas (which are usually accompanied by bread), I decided I'd go healthy while I still could. And good thing, because this ended up being the only healthy meal I had in Spain. I got the **Ensalada Especial** which came with mushrooms, tomatoes, and sesame dressing and I added on some chicken for an extra euro. My friend got the **Spaghetti Bolognese** which was your basic pasta dish with meat sauce. We also decided to split a small plate of **Beef Carpaccio** since we knew Spain loves their thinly sliced meats. The food tasted great, especially being the first meal after almost a day of being on an airplane. Prices are reasonable at 10-12 euro for a combo including a drink. My water counted as a combo drink -- don't forget that they don't serve tap water in Spain, so you have to buy bottled water everywhere you go! As with most restaurants in Spain, they also serve coffee. IMPORTANT TIP: Food portions here are tiny, especially for two hungry Americans who JUST arrived in Spain. After a small plate and two dishes, we were still pretty hungry and almost ordered 2 more entrees! We didn't want to feel like pigs though, so we went somewhere else for snacks.

My friend saw pictures of this restaurant while on Instagram, and though it looked like a classy, yummy place to spend the evening. We made a reservation for 8pm, which is relatively early for Spanish time, so the restaurant was mostly empty when we got there. We were welcomed by the friendly and attentive servers, who were extremely helpful in suggesting favorite dishes and how much we should order based on dish size. Our group of six shared a pitcher of the Cava sangria, which was delicious! The server even poured it for us so we each got a nice glass with a few slices of fruit. We shared an order of the burrata - AMAZING, and a few of the goat cheese salads - ALSO GREAT! For the main dish, we all chose our own things. They have entree plates, so several of my friends ordered the salmon, which came with bok choy and zucchini. Another friend ordered the cachopo. I was going to get a few of the tapas options instead of a main plate, but when I tried to order the huevos tapas and the truffle oil fries, the waiter told me that would be too much so I stuck with just the huevos. He was right! I don't remember the exact name of it, but it was potatoes, some sort of sausage, caramelized onions, and fried eggs. Very good and very filling, especially since it was only 1 tapa. I will say that the sizes of entrees did vary a good amount. My 1 tapa was relatively large, as was the cachopo, while the salmon dish was smaller. Overall, the restaurant had a great environment with beautiful decor and friendly staff that made us feel right at home. The food was delicious with stunning presentation and at what I thought was a very reasonable price (all together, it was about 20 USD per person, plus or minus a few based on what each person ordered). It was a great way to celebrate with our friend! Definitely check out if you're near Sants!

Some toothpicks were just holding things together -- I had to laugh at that -- but it's all part of the charm and experience. La Tasqueta was so good that we came back a few days later for another round, only to find it temporarily closed due to a plumbing issue. I know, that would be unthinkable, unconscionable, unacceptable, un-American (huh??), un, un, you get it.. Do I really need to have one more spoonful or rice?? Yes, of course, so we gave Arrosseria Las Arenas (paella house) a shot as it was just a 40 meter walk from the hotel. (Wow, that was a long wind up for the review part..) We opted for the traditional paella and had some fried squid bites with sour cream dip. The fried fish was really good as we ate it all. The seafood paella tasted fine but it only had like 7 pieces of seafood and a ton of rice (which is what I was trying to avoid)..and it was a bit salty..
