WOW! So, I've had a few items here and there at peoples home barbecues. We live in Atlanta, but our best friends live in McDonough, and THEY have the pool, so we party there! Lol!! Last year, while at a cookout at our friends place, he picked up coleslaw and Brunswick stew from Pippins. Man, best coleslaw in the state for sure, and the Brunswick stew was loaded with meat, they do not skimp! Based on trying those 2 items, I knew as soon as I got the opportunity to swing by myself, that we would eat in. I got the pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw ( of course) and potato salad. My husband got a slab of ribs, and shared my sides. The food was incredibly good, the staff was friendly, and the space was super clean. I love to actually taste the "smoke" when I eat barbecue and this place didn't disappoint! All of their sides are spot on too! The Carolina sauce is incredible! The new flavor IS NOT Pippins BBQ. It is not good at all. Completely ruined the Pippins experience. It has been my favorite for as long as it has been opened but now I won't be back. Why buy a successful restaurant and change the flavor that made them successful???? You should have just opened another BBQ spot and left Pippins to be Pippins. read more

New owners seem nice but the quality of food, in my opinion has gone down dramatically. Mac and Cheese was practically swimming in its own oil along with microwaves going off in the back. Far from the worst bbq and I hope with time they'll only improve but as of right now it's far from the same pippins from a year ago. read more

Enjoyable but small portions. My wife and I went with friends to this B small BBQ cafe in McDonough. I had the pork ribs, and it was a good portion, but they were a little undercooked. I had Brunswick stew and mac-n-cheese, my wife had a chicken salad sandwich with cold slaw and chips. Our friends had brisket sandwiches with stew and chips. All the sides and sandwiches were VERY small portions. If I'm paying 20 bucks for a lunch I expect more than a couple tablespoons worth in portions. The BBQ sauces were all real watery, I like my sauces thicker. Chairs and benches were hard metal or wood with NO padding. Not a place I will go back to. read more

I went to Pippins BBQ and I had wanted to go since I saw the restaurant the food smelt so good but until I actually went to order some food it was a total disappointment the meat was full of smoke flavor but it was just that it had no seasoning at all but the customer service was wonderful . I believe if they use a good amount of seasoning they could sell out everyday . The Brunswick stew was awesome if you just don't believe me go see for yourself but just know I told you first . now for the money you get a generous amount but again it has no seasoning . read more

Today was my first time trying Pippin's and I was a little disappointed. I've been in the area my whole life and saw that they have been here before I was born so I knew it had to be GREAT. I called in a to-go order because the online ordering didn't let you add a drink, and I didn't want to pay online and then another dollar and change in person for a drink. When I arrived the staff was very friendly. I added a bbq sauce on the side, and was bummed to see they only had mild and hot bbq sauce to add, but on the tables they had many more to chose from. I guess that's just the perk of eating there. The restaurant was clean and quaint, nothing fancy but it was fitting. I got a bbq chicken plate with coleslaw and Mac n cheese. At first I didn't love the coleslaw, but it did grow on me. The Mac was probably some of the best Mac I've ever had. I added a half a shake of pepper and it was perfect. Like worth going back just for Mac n cheese perfect. The chicken was underwhelming, it was chunky and bland even with all the bbq sauce- and was sitting in what looked like water in my to-go box. I wouldn't order the chicken again, but I would go back to try the bbq pork. My meal also came with a bag of chips and 2 slices of plain white bread. All in all I enjoyed it! Portions were big and price was right. I got my chicken, 2 sides, 2 slices of bread, bag of chips, drink, and sauce on the side for $13.99. I hope the pork is better than the chicken! read more

I had the brisket plate and the brisket was rubbery. The staff was very nice but even the sides we had (coleslaw and chips) were subpar.

I saw a post on Ola Talks where people said the Brunswick stew was best at Pippins bbq. My husband and I love trying BBQ around the country , and we have 3 things we test - Brunswick stew, coleslaw, and the sauce. I realized we had never tried this local "hole in the wall" so we decided to order the family meal that has pork, buns, stew, slaw and sauce. All for a very reasonable dinner price of $30. I ordered online and my husband picked up on the way home. However, when I opened the bag the pint of cole slaw was missing. That was not only a strike in my book, but messed up our judging of this bbq place. I gave them a call to explain my dissatisfaction. Y'all, the customer service was a 10/10. The girl on the line was so apologetic and immediately said - if you don't mind coming back - we will fix this and add brisket side at no cost. I will tell you I appreciate a business that values my time and gas, just to make an order right. It also meant we got to try another menu item that we didn't order. This is what local places get you vs "chain" places. The BBQ was GREAT. Loved everything we ate, but I love good customer service. I will absolutely order again. THAT is how you gain new customers. This is hands down my favorite BBQ place. I am very picky about fat in my BBQ and Pippins never has any fat in theirs. They offer a BBQ sandwich chips and a drink for about $6 which is a steal. They also have ribs which my friends have told me are the best. They drive down here from Cumming, GA just to eat at Pippins. Their banana pudding is amazing but make sure you get a large. The small is like a teaser. I typically get my food to go as I work close by. However, I have noticed when I do try to eat it is sometimes difficult to find a table because it's small but it's been at this location for years and people move pretty quick. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. I have forgotten a few times on a Monday. read more

heard all about this place and I do not get it honestly. It is OK, not great. For price, portions are pretty small especially sides. I did get some cornbread once that was tasty but cold as ice. I think this place has lived on past laurels a long long time. Not a lot of other choices in McDonough for BBQ. In a pinch this place will work but my preference is to drive a little further and get a whole lot better BBQ. Takes too long to be served. Not like it is crowded or they have to cook something is it? Place has a "joint" feel to it while still feeling institutional. Strange I know but how it is. read more

Pippins is my favorite BBQ restaurant in Henry County because the meat is tender and juicy and they have the best ever Worcestershire-based BBQ sauce. Man, that stuff is so good I could practically drink it. Their family style dinner is a pretty good deal and you can make multiple BBQ sandwiches from it. I really wish they were open later, though. They close at 7:30 p.m. which seems like it would be prime dinner time. read more

This spot has AMAZING BBQ! I ordered the #3 brisket sandwich with Brunswick stew and slaw. It also came with chips and a drink. The Brunswick stew was awesome. The food is great...the staff is friendly. Although I wish they would not start cleaning everything up at 7:05 when they don't close until 7:30. I felt like we were being rushed. Ordered take out from here when we were at a baseball tournament. They were very accommodating with providing plates and silverware. I ordered the picnic pack. I wanted some ribs, but they were out. Big problem for a BBQ place. The Brunswick stew was great. I was annoyed with the pulled BBQ. It was in large chunks, not pulled and they sold it by weight and added the sauce into it. I hate when I am charged for sauce. The sauce was ok. They give you way too much coleslaw. I'm not sure who eats that much coleslaw. I would have rather had more BBQ instead. read more

I love the food here, but the service is terrible. I will probably not be coming back. I ordered 2 picnic packs which were listed as $34.99 each on there website. I placed my order over the phone and referenced the website in my phone call. At no point did anyone inform me that the prices were wrong on the website. When I get to the restaurant, I was charged $85 for a meal that should have been $70. When I asked the cashier, she says, "oh yeah, we haven't changed that yet." If I wasn't having house guests over tonight I would've told them to keep it. As it stands, they just lost this valuable customer. read more

Smoked chicken sandwich--you must try it! Best smoked/barbecued chicken sandwich around the Atlanta metro area! Not shredded bits, but chunks of smokey, jucy, tender chicken. BBQ pork is good, too, but I prefer the chicken. They don't have FF. Sauce is great: spicy not sweet and somewhat hot. The McDonough location is the only one I've tried, but there are other locations in Conyers & Covington. The one in McDonough is a tiny place in a strip shopping center just a few blocks from the town square...next door to a laundromat. Has a small dining room, but seems to be mostly take out business, except lunch. Can be crowded at lunch. Closes at 7:30 p.m., and is closed on Sunday & Monday. Quick service. read more

Been driving past this place for years so decided to give it a try. I felt that it was a run of the mill family BBQ house. The portions were a little slack. Brunswick stew was nothing special and I would not get it again. The slaw was pretty good and would definetly recommend it. As mentioned the BBQ was tender and moist but no smoke or bark.... Little store front next to laundry mat...top 3 brunswick stew on my list. Delicious. Very reasonable, sandwich plate with slaw, stew, chips and drink was $7.50! Sandwich was loaded with bbq which was moist and tender with an average sauce. Slaw leaned toward vinegar, prefer sweeter myself. Go for a good lunch! read more
