This place far exceeded my expectations. For context, I'm a chef, I've worked in BBQ before, and I make some pretty amazing soul food myself -- so I don't give compliments like this lightly. This was hands down one of the best BBQ experiences I've had in years. My favorite spot used to be B's, but since they shut down, I haven't really had "a place." The place is nice inside and out and very clean. It has a trendy vibe but mostly chair seating a not too many booths. We had good service from the bartender Savannah. As far as the food goes we enjoyed it's mostly but I really feel like they try so hard so make something good better that they trip themselves up. I would never say "oh I want Sweet Auburn bbq" this is just my opinion of course. If you come for ribs just know they are "competition style" tough and hard to get off the bone. First walking up to the restaurant the atmosphere is soft and timid. I walked in and picked to eat outside for this experience. Server was very polite, attentive and helpful. I ordered a ginger ale which is from the fountain and my fiancé ordered the Mexican sprite which comes in a glass bottle. We both ordered the pick 2 meats and decided to try out their wings since they have a $1 wing special on Wednesdays. Their sauces are homemade, so is the ketchup I believe because it tasted and looked different from bigger brands ketchup. Their brisket was good, we got a more fatty piece but they do offer lean pieces as well. Mac & cheese was good, not too much flavor but not too little. I wish the pulled chicken had a bit more flavor and sauce. Their grits were definitely not worth trying in my book. The grits tasted like baby milk and over expanded so they were more mushy. Their ribs were overcooked so they were more tougher and the marinade they use was sweet but tasted like the Al pastor marinade. The sauce was too strong for our liking. Combo plate with pulled pork and brisket. The meats were so juicy and tender. They had a nice smoke flavor. Only downfall was it tasted too salty. We left the gym and came around 7:45 and they close at 9 and they took us in with no problem and we didn't feel rushed at all while being served. The restaurant itself was clean but where we were seated needed some attention there was a fork on the floor and some food left under the table so that area needed cleaning and our menu needed to be wiped, however you could tell the restaurant was clean. We requested to be moved so maybe that area wasn't cleaned before we moved. Anyway the food was amazing very unexpected , it's a fusion of Asian and BBQ! The only time I was happy was when she got me the sweet tea and my plate being remade over. My waitress demeanor was amazing and tentative she kept apologizing for the mistakes and Taylor the manager listened and handled the issues. The quality of food is not up to par it's just bland, and not fresh, and eye-appealing. The love for the restaurant is not in that kitchen it's bad teamwork. People are just showing up to work and getting a check. We as customers are losing our money and our time which we can not get back. I always try to give the fairest review possible so understand I'm looking at a lot of factors. My daughter (13) got the pulled chicken sandwich with Mac and cheese. She devoured the sandwich but called it "mid" and hated the Mac and cheese because she said it tasted like Alfredo and I must say I agreed. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich and enjoyed it. She also had the Mac and cheese but ate all of it because she loves Alfredo. My daughter (6) wouldn't eat her chocolate chip cookie because it had flake salt on it. As for me, I had a 2 meat combo. I chose fatty brisket and char siu ribs with fries and bourbon beans as the sides. I also replaced the garlic toast with a jalapeño cheddar cornbread muffin. The fatty brisket was simply spectacular. Great cook and great texture. The char siu ribs were mediocre to me. The cook was ok and the sauce was alright. Just nothing impressive and they left me wishing I'd bought regular ribs. The bourbon beans were ok but not enough to drive me to rate them above a 3 out of 5. The French fries were super solid. The only thing keeping them from a perfect rating is a slightly longer cook. The cornbread muffin was great and the sorghum butter elevated it even further. Maybe the best thing I ate all night. The service was absolutely spectacular. I will say the menu was a disappointment.
