I'm a little bit obsessed with Piper's. I've been three times, and each experience has been wonderful. First of all, the staff there is awesome. Such friendly, upbeat people, always cracking jokes and making sure you have what you need. You can tell they really enjoy working there, and care about the customer experience. I came across Piper's while doing my typical Yelp search, and was intrigued by the soft serve selection. I knew I had to check it out! My first two visits were just for the soft serve. The first time around: chocolate, toffee and peanut butter. I love that you can choose up to three flavors (personally, I'm pretty indecisive and can never decide on just one flavor - so I love this option!) The second time around I got blueberry and cheesecake, which was AMAZING. Highly recommended. The soft serve is creamy, cold, delicious and refreshing. And reasonably priced, at that. I suggest you order it in a cone. Looking through their menu, I was intrigued by their expansive options that included bountiful breakfast and lunch items. I went with the scrambler: perfectly seasoned breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs, white cheddar and a veggie patty with a homemade biscuit and strawberry mango jam on the side. Talk about getting some bang for your buck! I left there happy and satisfied. I'm still dreaming about this breakfast, and plan to have it again soon. Piper's - you're awesome! In LOVE with this place. We ride bikes here on occasion and haven't had anything but a good experience. Everyone is always very friendly. The ice cream is great (and largely portioned) and I really loved the veggie burger. A little messy to eat but it definitely is first in mind when I'm wanting one. Its nice to have a veggie patty that doesn't resemble processed frozen vegetables trying to be a burger. Keep up the good work! And the patio here is so cute and perfect, it has a park feeling to it. read more

Good: Nice environment, playground across the street. Lots of different soft serve ice cream combinations! Lemonade is also excellent. Bad: Menus say unlimited refills on tea, lemonade, etc (without any qualification). When I asked for a refill after ordering soft serve ice cream with a group of six, I was told that refills were only for those ordering meals. Me and the pup always go for ice cream after we go hiking or have a great walk or when he's just being a good boy. They always get me his ice cream first so that he is happy, then take care of me, which is great. I've been going here for over a year and tried the chili dog today and there's no way I don't get that every time I go from now on. I cannot possible say enough good things about this hidden gem. Unique health menu with character! It is all delicious, there is about 8 way tie as to which is my favorite! Service is ALWAYS superb. And the prices ridiculously low. Sitting outside on a gorgeous day, enjoyed ice tea and very unique blend veggie burger and out of this world delicious goetta chili with my choice from 7 cheese option, I picked jalapeño white cheddar. This is the hidden (or not so hidden anymore?) gem of Covington and the Mainstrasse strip. The blueberry soft serve was amazing! And it was freezing outside! And it was January! It didn't matter! We tried the Soda Stream options: the ginger green tea and the Dr. Piper (as they called it). They were both great soda alternatives. Additionally, I highly recommend trying the goetta tex-mex coney dog with fresh Kentucky cheese and fresh pretzel hot dog buns from BeanHaus just down the street. I used to love this place. The owner was almost always there and service was friendly and efficient. The last two times I was there, that wasn't the case. I switched my order from a chili dog to a regular hot dog. I stood there 20 minutes waiting for them to work it out while they called the manager to see if he could help. I finally told them I had to go. Too much work for a hotdog. They just waved and said sorry. Why in the name of customer service couldn't you just give me the damn hot dog. Would that have hurt? It would have saved a good returning good tipping customer. They also stopped selling those little bottles of wine which was disappointing. If you're not going to be there, for god sakes train your staff. That's why so many Covington places flop. Owners get sloppy and then don't train staff. Too bad, what a shame. read more

Wife and I took our daughter over just for ice cream. We both were a little hungry so decided to grab a bite. Man we weren't disappointed, we both got what we thought at the time, a simple grilled cheese and tomato. This sandwich is no where near simple! You can taste the difference with the homemade butter. The walk up ice cream window is great. Good soft serve with a ton of flavoring options. The flavors are all syrups, so not amazing, but my 6 year old nephew thinks the endless flavor combinations are the best thing in the world next to ice cream. Chicken Sausage biscuit: 4 stars (awesome sausage patty - credit to the producer, not the cook...) Piper's menu features local and simple ingredients at a walk up window right in Mainstrausse. From there, it's hit and miss. We stopped by with friends and our kids because of the rock garden, tables and fenced in area, perfect for keeping the little ones confined and occupied. We started with the egg and chicken breakfast biscuit. The chicken sausage was excellent, the biscuit, great, the eggs good, and potato hash browns soggy, and the organic ketchup awful (note that I'm a Pittsburgh kid, and I'll take Heinz and the HFCS any day...). Unfortunately, we tried the biscuit first, and then followed up with the vegan burger, grilled cheese and the covington hot dog and fries with our friends. verdict: Don't let the organic/local/fresh vibe fool you...get the $0.75 kid's soft serve cones and move on. read more

I tried this place today after hearing/ seeing all the great reviews. Note: the ordering and seating areas are oudoors, but in lots of shade. I loved learning about all the favors and how the ice cream is made with natural fruit extracts and flavorings. I ordered the black raspberry ice cream on a waffle cone. It was great! The soft serve texture was slightly looser and a bit more melted, but very tasty. The owners seemed very professional and friendly. Nice spot in Covington! Will definitely go back! read more

My fiance and I stopped in a couple weekends ago. First of all, the gentleman who served us was just an absolute pleasure. You could tell her was truly proud of what he served. The food was good! Since it was our first time we got a lot of stuff and shared it all - chili, french fries, grilled cheese, hot dog, and ice cream (wow - putting that in writing makes me feel very ashamed!). The fries were great. They have a unique seasoning that's very good. The grilled cheese was the bomb. We got the TED cheese (I think that's what it's called). Didn't care for the mustard on the hot dog - but the dog itself was great and the pretzel bun it was on was even better! The chili was different but good. Ice cream was good too! Meh! On the strength of the recent BuzzFeed article extolling the soft serve ice cream at this place as being one of the best in the country we decided to sample it. The situation couldn't have been any more conducive to a positive review as we just had left a sweltering Reds game. We each ordered the fudge brownie flavor mixed in with the standard vanilla soft serve base. It was wholly unremarkable. The ice cream tasted more like ice milk and did not have good "mouth feel". There was no creaminess to it. The fudge brownie flavor that was mixed in was not recognizable. This soft serve is wholly overrated and does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the iconic Putz's which was also reviewed by BuzzFeed. read more
