I'd been to Hyde Park Wine & Spirits years ago to score beers that weren't available in Kentucky, where I used to live, because they were a relatively short drive, and they always had a great selection of brews to geek out on. Knowing this, recently, I returned there for the first time in quite a few years... To find it a total mess. Not only was there product clustered everywhere in absolutely no order, even on the floor, the place was super dark, so the simple act of getting around was difficult. Also, I wonder if they're remotely able to keep track of inventory, to at least know the dates on the product they have in stock. But, as I observed and accidentally bought, they have product clearly out of code. Not simply by months, by YEARS. This place now gets my vote for the worst adult beverage shop in the greater Cincinnati area. Needless to say, I will NEVER shop here again. Have not been in the store in a few years stopped in on Sunday. Wow! I was shocked by how the store had declined. The middle age black woman working the register was incredibly rude. She was also dressed totally inappropriately, wearing a black T-shirt that read "MORE THAN A PUSSY". I don't frequent this place but I do stop by from time to time if I'm in the area and needing to grab something quick. The people who work here are overall pretty cool..but the store itself is mediocre at best. First off for a decently sized store it always seems crammed with stuff..my OCD always kicks in when I enter because a lot of times things are just thrown everywhere and in no particular order at that. It looks like they have a big selection but I can't tell you how many times I've been really surprised to find out that they didn't have what I was looking for. And it's never been "hard to find uncommon" things that they wouldn't have..it would be things that the local Kroger has in stock on a regular basis. He is clearly sick with a respiratory infection and working the counter. He wasn't using any kind of sanitation and proceeded to handle other customers' purchases and credit cards. The national Emergency clearly states if you are sick stay home. I honestly can't believe this person to be ruled out considering testing at this time is prioritized to certain populations or is unavailable. We were so disgusted we left without buying anything. I was a little put off by the prices in general. Due to it's location in Hyde Park, I think things were just over priced because they can be. I'm a fan of micro-brew beers from all over the country (which they had a nice and large selection of) and I only found one brand that was under seven dollars. I can get some of these same brands at Kroger for less. They do have a nice liquor selection and wine selection. The wine was also over priced. Looking around what they offered I spotted cheap wines and pricey wines. I was able to judge the overall pricing by the way the cheap wines were priced because I'm more familiar with purchasing these brands. However, some wine bottles they carry are unique and gorgeous! It may be worth a visit if you are in the market for some harder to find stuff, but the Kroger right around the corner has a liquor store inside it as well as a large wine section and chances are better prices as well. read more

I approached an old lady with short hair to ask if they were doing any wine sampling. She said (or declared) in a condescending tone "you're just BROWSing," I said no but I was hoping to be able to try some featured items. I won't bore with details but everything she said after that point to answer every query I made, made reference to price. As if finding out the price might put me in psychogenic shock. They've also got snacks, and olives for the martinis (gin for me, thanks, not vodka, and so dry I want to see dust on the olive). As liquor stores go, this place raises the bar. It is kind of a tight squeeze, but that's just because the place is so well stocked. It can get a little busy, but the lines typically move fast. (Parking can also be a problem at busy times.) They don't take credit cards, which is irksome, but understandable. They do take debit cards and cash, though. As the Roman poet Horace wrote, "Now's the time for drinking deep, and now's the time to beat the earth with unfettered feet." So Carpe Diem, folks. Drink up. read more

Not long after I moved to Cincinnati, I established the Hyde Park Kroger as my usual grocery store. I had driven past this unassuming storefront in a stripmall several times before I decided to stop. Boy, am I ever glad I did. This is now pretty much my favorite spot to buy beer. This place, while limited in size, manages to cram in a very good selection of amazing quality beers in the little space they have. They also have liquor and win, but that is not what this place is about for me. While the selection is not at the level of Party Source due to size, what selection they do have is absolutely top notch. Overwhelmed by the choice or just plain unfamiliar with the world of craft beer? Check out the Beer Advocate Top 100 beers on the wall or ask the friendly, knowledgeable staff. They also allow you to make your own 6-packs with any bottles they have available. This is tremendous. As much as I want to, I can't give this 5 stars for a couple of reasons. The place is a little cluttered, which makes it hard to find what you need sometimes. This is especially true of wine. The other thing is that they don't have a great selection of cold beer. Most of what they offer is unrefrigerated, so its up to you to get it cold when you get home. This is a must-visit for anyone who likes good beer. While Party Source has the selection, this place has the atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, and consistent quality. Unless you're buying a tallboy of swill out of the cooler, you're pretty much guaranteed a good beer. read more

Pros: Great selection and prices seemed to be at state minimums. They let you buy single bottles/cans of beer which is a huge deal for me. Cons: Small place and their beer area was really cluttered and seemed to lack organization. The semi-chaotic environment made me feel that I could find something really unique but in the end I walked out with the latest release from Urban Artifact. Your typical liquor store. Every time I've come here I've found what I've been looking for, although my tastes are pretty simple. My favorite is the dollar beer rack. You can mix a six of some of the beers that have been sitting on their shelves for a little too long for $6. I'm always up for a deal! This is my new go-to place in Ohio for single bottles of beer. They'll let you break any six pack, which is awesome. The prices are very reasonable as well. I found a bottle of Tilquin Gueuze (750mL) for only $16.99 when everyone else charges at least $20 a bottle. They have a very large selection, most warm, but there is some stuff in the cooler. This place would get 5 stars, but it's a bit cluttered. There isn't much space, so they cram stuff in everywhere. It can take a while to look for that beer you've been searching for. The staff doesn't seem too knowledgeable about craft beer, at least the lady that's always working the counter. I'm sure whoever their beer buyer is knows the stuff well.
