I cannot recommend this company. (updated 5/13/26 ) I try to support local businesses, so I called Pipeworks / Sewer Surgeons (same company) in Chatham, NJ to clear a basement bathroom drain. The technician quoted $750 and proceeded to snake the line from the garage cleanout and a pipe junction inside the garage. He did not snake directly from the bathroom drain where the issue was occurring. Afterward, he asked me to flush the toilet once and said the line was clear. There was no clear explanation that the work would only be warrantied if I agreed to additional jetting service.(jet spray power washing). I paid $598.08 (with a coupon), thanked him, and even tipped him. This was April 24, 2026. Less than 24 hours later, the drain was backing up again. When I called, they sent another technician but told me I would have to pay again. I explained that the original issue had not been resolved, but they refused to stand behind the work and said it was not under warranty. I then hired another licensed plumber, who accessed the line from the basement toilet flange and found multiple clogs that had not been fully cleared. The issue was resolved at that time. (See Photo below ) For a nearly $600 service, I expected the issue to be resolved or at least addressed without additional charges. read more

Had them out for a quote on some basic work. Pricing was ridiculous, equivalent to $400/hr. They flagged a faulty pressure reducing valve which was helpful. Plumber misidentified the sump pump discharge line as irrigation--didn't give me a lot of confidence. Found others to do the job at half to a third of the price. read more

I should have checked here instead of relying solely on Google review where somehow they managed to get high ratings. I was well aware of the upselling trick for this kind of HVAC maintenance services but still got me into big trouble. How? Because I had never imagined that they'd do work on your pipes *without* your consent and sneekingly when you did not pay attention. So here I am, after their "tune-up" of my boiler, I now have neither heat in my home nor hot water (and that's right, I did not ask for any work on the water heater either but obviously they did something to it). It's all because they tried to upsell me a work that I refused. *Be aware*: they'd try to fool you into accepting their way over-priced upselling work by arguing that 1) The law card: it is required by law, and you are against the law if you don't allow them to do it, and 2) The moral card: it is all for your safety, so they are the good guys, and you are the evil one if you don't allow them to do it. NEVER trust these. This is solely a trick to push you into buying their service. And after I post my review on Google they replied and blatently denied that they'd done work on my pipes, so they are well aware of the fact that they shouldn't have done it. read more

The company is very good at taking calls and emails etc to get you on the schedule for a big a job. They upsell and are over the top expensive, they then go through the usual routine of how the prior work wasn't done right and they need to install a much larger unit and ductwork etc... Being stuck with in the dean of winter with no heat due to a blown furnace I agreed for a quick turnaround. They upsold me on replacing my AC unit with a larger unit and refused to ever show me what they paid the supplier for the unit, only the retail price. They also had me run more ducts etc to "improve air flow" Needless to say its stopped working twice (each summer and its only been 2 summers since its been installed). Its out again, its over a 100 degrees this week and they won't come to look at it for a week and because its been more than 1 year (like 18 months) it costs more to check out a system that has broken down twice in under 2 years (brand new system). I would avoid this company. Its a con job and the initial warm and friendly service attitude goes away immediately when you question their price, quality and especially when the install doesn't work as billed read more

5 years ago I purchased a new air conditioning unit for my house from Pipeworks. This summer it wasn't working. Pipeworks came out and said I needed new coils which were under warranty minus the labor to install but that they said they think my line set was leaking although they didn't know for sure. They said it most likely was because I lost way too much refrigerant. They said they can't test it because it is covered but it was old so it makes sense it was leaking. 'What?' They quoted me a rediculous price to replace my line set and fix coils. I asked them if I could just replace coils they said yes but it is just going to leak out again. They said maybe I am better off replacing my system again as the price to fix line set and coils was close to buying a new system. What? My system is only 5 years old and is still under warranty I called another company they tested my line set and it was fine, no leaks. They got my coils replaced under my warranty from Armstrong and charged me $500 in labor. Pipeworks not only charged me $550 for their diagnostic quote but they were wrong. You tell me if this sounds like a try for a scam? I will never ever use this company again. They lost all my trust. If you are going to use this company you have been warned. I have used this company for many years but the last two years were less than stellar. I needed service on my AC due to lines freezing up. Last year I had them come to check the AC out and they wouldn't charge it due to its age. This time they said the lines were freezing due to a bad compressor and I should replace the coils and compressor for $12k. The quality was shotty and the value of work was no good. I called another company who came out and said the lines were freezing because it needed refrigerant. They charged the lines and it's working perfectly now. PipeWorks's is getting too big for themselves and just want you to purchase a new unit. I will never use them again for HVAC. I suggest you don't either. I will use the other company. My 3-year old 3 ton AC is and was working fine. Called Pipeworks to just do the annual preventive maintenance routine. Tech indicated that my unit needed freon, and, if I did not add the freon right away, the system would likely breakdown. I was then charged $600 for one LB of freon. The price for one lb should be closer to $150-200. Very disappointed with this price gouging and now I am questioning whether or not I needed the extra lb. that was added since my unit was working fine to begin with. read more

Good in a pinch but after receiving several quotes they are not the cheapest around. They do have a good amount of techs so you're likely to get in earlier with them then elsewhere, especially if you need an emergency job. I would like to say that I was very impressed with the service provided, but really, I was not. I called for an appointment to have a professional come out to our property and examine the sewer line, because a home inspection picked up leakage. I was told there would be a $59 fee to evaluate the problem. When I was contacted by the company, I was told the technician was at the house and needed to see the home inspection video of the sewer line. I sent it over to him. I was stunned to hear the technician made his estimate based on the video alone. He did not even examine our sewer line. We were told a full diagnostic evaluation would have cost over $400. What was the purpose of him coming out to our property? He could have viewed the video in his office. I paid the service charge, but I was very confused as to why he had to come out to the property, only to sit and watch a video performed by someone else. Seemed like an unnecessary trip with an unnecessary charge. That alone did not leave a good first impression of dealing with this company, and on top of that, the technician hinted at possible problems in performing his recommended repair of placing a liner in the pipe. I'm wondering if he would have suddenly found more problems when he got into the sewer line and recommend a more invasive repair costing much more. Seems like a money grab. In the end we did not want to deal with this, and we agreed upon giving a credit to the buyers to fix the sewer line. I did not want to hire this company, as I felt they were not thorough and were more fixated on the money than providing good service. If I would have been forced to repair the line myself, I would have gotten several more estimates and looked for a company I felt more comfortable with. They charge a $59 service fee, which would be reasonable if it were an indication of their pricing. Their low fee is a deceptive practice to get them in your home where they hit you with an exorbitant quote for doing the work requested. They know no one in their right mind would pay their base prices, so they have to rely on deception to drum up business. The owner will say, "every job is different" but he won't acknowledge that if he gives people an indication of his prices he'd never make the initial $59 dollars to begin with. I had a simple dishwasher install that I was struggling to do myself because of arthritis. They wanted $600 to hook up water, drainage, and connect three color coded electrical wires. Refused to budge on price, so I refused service. Then demanded the $59 service fee because he was an "expert" that came out and evaluated everything. I have relied on Pipeworks for all plumbing needs for a while. When time came to get a generator installed, I was thrilled to find out that Pipeworks did that too! They are authorized dealers for Kohler. The procurement of generator during COVID time and tha installation was quite seamless. We were kept informed all the way. Then all of a sudden, our generator broke down and Pipeworks technician showed up within a couple of hours. Turns out we have a lemon, which they followed up on and we had a new one the same day. I would pick them again and again any given day! read more

Technician had clearly never worked on my type of unit and charged me over $500 to clean the coils (which appeared to be a boilerplate response to any unsolvable issue they may encounter). He certainly spent enough time attempting to diagnose, but at the end of the day I have over $500 less in my checking account, and I still don't have heat. Nothing accomplished here except money in their pocket. And I've read the other negative reviews, all met with blame and excuses; please do not attempt a defense. I'd like to leave a cautionary review for anyone considering using this company. I'd like to say first of all that this is all due to the price they charged me, not the service, which was punctual and neatly done. My garbage disposal broke and I called Pipe Works. Jimmy came out same day and after quickly checking the problem and a few clicks on his iPad provided a $1300 quote to repair the garbage disposal. I'm not very knowledgeable in this space so after a quick back and forth we settled on $1200. The job was done in 45 minutes and Jimmy left. After the fact, I checked the price of the new garbage disposal he installed (which by the way had everything already set up, so all Jimmy had to do was swap out the old one for the new one), and it runs about $200 to $300 on Amazon. So he basically charged me $1000 for 45 minutes of labor! This is really on me because I didn't price shop (with my busy work schedule and COVID I didn't have time to shop around but I guess that's a cautionary tale as well). So while the work was done well, i feel totally taken advantage of on price so please please be careful when using this company and compare prices and avoid being price gouged. With the recent hardships in the economy I'd think this wouldn't happen in the short term but I guess you always need to be careful as people always try to take advantage. read more

Our 3 year old A/C broke down for the second summer in a row. Wife was beyond frustrated by the poor job that our builder's original HVAC company had done when installing the current system. John Sorrentino from Pipeworks came out the very next day. I found him both knowledgeable and honest. Rather than immediately trying to sell us a new system he called in one of his techs to see if the existing system had any hope of repair. Tech determined that the lineset had a restriction somewhere and that it would cost over $3,000 to find the restriction and repair (in the best case). John sent a quote for a HVAC replacement the very next day and was ready to bring a crew in to install the system almost immediately. In the end I did not proceed with the installation using Pipeworks because I already had a quote for a full system replacement from a competitor with whom I've done business multiple times in the past. However, given John's great service I would not hesitate to use pipeworks again in the future. read more

I called Pipe Works to detect and repair a leak in a gas line running from our house to a detached garage. Technician came, told me we have "black iron" (which he could not see above ground) and that they don't test black iron for leaks. He said we would need to run a new line and after looking around quoted me the staggering sum of $28,400. I obtained two other quotes, both at or under $10k. I requested annual maintenance on my AC unit and a technician was sent to my home. When he arrived, I told him immediately that nothing was wrong with my unit and I just wanted annual maintenance. (Usually this entails things like checking the drain lines for clogs, checking the freon levels, and hosing off the compressor). He came in and did a bunch of diagnostics (for a nonexistent problem, apparently, since I had already told him straight up that everything works great). Of course he then recommended I do a bunch of expensive things to optimize my system - which already works perfectly!!!! The most frustrating part was only AFTER doing all of these unnecessary diagnostic tests, he proceeded to explain that they DO NOT EVEN DO annual maintenance on AC units unless I subscribe to their subscription service! That should have been explained by the person who booked my appointment on the phone and this whole exercise could have been avoided. He then made me pay for his diagnostics, which he called a "tune up" (although my system wasn't even touched except to look for problems which don't exist). In short, I got ZERO service to my system and was made to pay for tests I never asked for or needed. Don't even get me started on their prices. Cleaning off the compressor coils STARTS at $600! (He told me gravely that I am in dire need of this cleaning. I texted a picture of the compressor coils to my dad, who owns a HVAC /Trane business for 40 years, and he said it doesn't even need to be cleaned yet!) Cleaning the drain line: $300! A pound of freon? $400!!! Total highway robbery, very dishonest practices, and an utter waste of my time and money. Will never call them again. read more

Quick service but ridiculously overpriced. I had a problem with my central AC- the condenser would not come on. Turned out a critter was nesting in the control panel and somehow blew the capacitor- a part a later discovered can be bought for $10 or less The technician came out first the the next morning and provided efficient service and quick diagnosis. The capacitor was strapped in and could be removed by unfastenning a single screw. There were 3 wires attached with clips - literally a 5 minute job to replace. The tech offered to do the job first for $550, I said no. Then $450, I said no. Then $350- i said yes. Of course their time/knowledge has value, but it seemed the pricing was abusive. And his response below is completely false and not applicable in my case. read more

I'm not sure why Pipeworks texted me to ask for a review but they did so here it is. The guy they sent round was great, professional and knowledgeable. The issue I had was with the price quoted. For example they wanted $850 to fit a dishwasher and replace a valve on a pipe. The dishwasher to be fitted is an exact replica of the old one so I assume there is nothing special that needs doing. As a comparison the person who did fit it charged $140. To fix two faucets in the bathroom they quoted $1,500. The person coming tomorrow is charging $210. Plus I was charged a $59 call out fee for the privilege of getting such ridiculous quotes. Anyway I won't be calling them again. read more

I called pipeworks for an estimate on a boiler replacement after PSEG determined one of my boilers had a cracked heat exchanger and they recommended calling pipeworks. Now the good the estimators, people on the phone and the owner were very professional and responsive and they were able to come quickly and communicated well. Now the bad they came and looked at the system which is a rather complicated tandem boiler setup with 5 zones one of which is the original gravity system from the 20's on one zone across 3 floors. They sent multiple estimators and then finally the owner came, they asked a lot of questions and even pointed out things that might not be correct. Low and behold I get the estimate which is around 50k to install 2 relatively low end boilers(retail price of around $3500 each), a zone control($300), a tekmar boiler staging control($600), 5 007 taco circulators(really only 3 because the boilers come with a pump at $125 each), a new expansion tank($800), pressure reducing fill valve/ backflow preventer($150) and new 2in near boiler piping with header for the zones from the sounds of it in a primary-secondary loop. Now not only does 50k seem high for what was to be delivered, the proposal didn't have a lot of detail and furthermore there were things that seemed incorrect, fundamentally I do not believe they did a heat loss calc for the home and just sized the system based on what is already there. They spec'd taco 007 pumps which considering the length of some of these runs and the submittal sheets for the indirect, fan coil, etc show the 007 is marginal to run them and they really require a bigger pump plus it's 2022 why not modern ECM pumps and also variable speed as you don't really know the performance of the piping so the ability to adjust it fit the correct curve for the existing piping is ideal? Interestingly enough the quote was missing a thermostatic mixing valve for the bypass that would be required when installing old style cast iron boilers on a high mass system(basically if you do not keep the boiler return water above 130-140 degrees you get condensation and the heat exchanger eats itself, ideally instead of a bypass loop you can use a thermostatically controlled pump to ensure the boiler does not condense. I suspect the life of the boilers would have been reduced based on how they were going to install, fine for radiant, fan coil, and baseboard zones but no bueno for a gravity conversion. It was also missing a thermostatic valve for one of my radiant zones(water needs to be 120 degrees not the 180 that the boiler produces). So by no means did the 50k estimate include a premium install of top of the line equipment up to the recommended standards of most boiler manufacturers(note that's not to say what they proposed isn't approved by the manufacturer but rather not the ideal way to do it). Suffice it to say I did not move forward so I don't know how an install actually goes with these guys. But I'll say this they seemed awfully expensive and not overly expert in hydronic systems. The other criticism I have is rather than trying to work out a design that would minimize the work and cost they went for the complete replacement, there was no discussion of options and there are far, far cheaper ways to get the job done. They could have proposed eliminating the tandem boiler setup, split the system leaving the modern zones on the existing boiler doing minor plumbing changes and connecting a much larger(say 280k cast iron boiler) which only is only marginally more expensive than the smaller boilers they spec'd. I wound up calling the boiler manufacturer of my existing boiler and ordering a heat exchanger which I installed myself for $3300 delivered, yes the existing system is piped incorrectly but it was able to keep my home 72 degrees when it was 5 degrees outside and 47k buys a lot of gas. I'd suggest if you call them shop around because it seems like the estimate was around 15-20% more than it should have been and I didn't have confidence in what they were proposing. read more

I went for their ad for $99 drain cleaning for my slow kitchen drain. I described what was required on the phone. When the tech arrived he said the $99 was for bathrooms only they are easier to get into the drain. For the extra 10 min to open the pipe under the sink the price jumped to $450. The bad news is that they were not. They charged me over 10X the amount of the cost of the replacement part (a kitchen sink garbage disposal). $3,100 for a $300 part. Ouch. Totally taken advantage of! Urgg. It's like watching yourself get pickpocketed in real time. They knew in advance what the model # of the part was but would not quote it until they came to the house for their inflated fee. I agreed to the inflated service fee, due to the holiday. I was extremely pleased with the service from Pipe Works. They were able to give me an appointment immediately. Dominic, the technician, was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. He replaced a leaky pipe leading to a toilet and also diagnosed and repaired a problematic hot water heater. He replaced an overflow tank that was located in a location that was difficult to access. AC thermostat stopped working. We called for an emergency service. He came was very nice but then quotes an additional 1k for replacement parts. I googled the parts and they were under 100. So I asked why so much? He said it's like when you go to a steakhouse the service is what you are paying for. So, over 900 for service on top of the 375 I had to pay for the initial service fee....lets just say I asked him to leave. Turns out the machine started again so at least we can get by until another provider can fix. read more

We have spent more than $15k with pipeworks on multiple jobs and had a service contract with them to service our HVAC. We will never use them again and I would suggest strongly that you avoid them as well. In April we had hot water problems that were misdiagnosed as a boiler problem (a $2000+ repair). When the hot water failed again we got a second opinion -- it turned out to be a broken check valve (a $200 repair). The initial work performed did nothing to solve our issue and when confronted with the issue Pipeworks refused to offer any sort of refund. This from a company who has been to our house at least a dozen times and from which we have never complained. Don't walk run to another service provider who won't rip you off. UPDATE In response to below. I was asked by another unhappy customer to post my experience. As for the matter being resolved -- I asked for a refund for the portion of the work that was deemed by another qualified professional as being unnecessary because the problem was incorrectly identified. In 2014, we built out the second floor of our house in Morristown and the plumbing and HVAC work went to Pipe Works Services in Chatham. They were always polite, friendly and professional. We've had them back to troubleshoot HVAC issues, install a new water heater and take on other odds and ends. They've been our go-to guys. Now the bad news. They have evolved into rip-off artists. Two years ago, we had an issue with the upstairs heat. A tech named Jimmy diagnosed the problem in about 10 minutes. He used his tablet to calculate the cost, and said it would be $874. I asked if he was f---ing kidding me. The part he wanted to replace was $30 (retail), and installing it would take five minutes. After multiple calls to the home office, we settled on $175. That was borderline reasonable to cover the first visit, the diagnostics, ordering and fetching the replacement part and a return visit for installation the following day. The part itself was under warranty. "You got lucky!" Jimmy said, with a weak smile. Now it's August 2020. We've had a slow drip in the kitchen sink. This morning I pulled the cartridge from the cold side and drove it to a supply store. Bought a pair of replacements for $15 each, and when I got home realized they were two different sizes. A mistake at the store. I replaced the one that fit on the cold side, then used the old cold cartridge on the hot side. And when I turned the water back on, they both leaked like crazy. I didn't want to drive back to the supply store, so I called Pipe Works. Today's tech was also named Jimmy, but I don't know if he was the same Jimmy who was here in 2018. Hard to tell with masks. He explained that I hadn't aligned the cartridge properly, so it didn't get a good seal. He did some checking on his tablet, and said that he could install new cartridges. For $250. Each. Plus parts. I showed him the door. I made one more call to Pipe Works and asked to file a complaint. The receptionist said the customer service manager was away from his desk, but would call me back. I like Pipe Works because they are responsive, they schedule appointments fast and their employees are knowledgable; the company backs them up. I recently had Anas replace my kitchen faucet and he solved the complications that stemmed from my faulty online purchase (I learned never to buy a faucet online that is on sale). Other commenters write that Pipe Works is expensive and it's true but they do employ office personnel and supervisors in addition to technicians, all of which improves service. With some degree of sadness, the message from this review is Beware. We have used Pipe Works for at least a decade for a variety of plumbing related issues -- replacing our water softener system, addressing clogged pipes and faucets with no pressure, replacing hoses connecting our washing machine, etc. And had always found them very responsive and professional -- and while they were quite expensive -- we felt like we "got what we paid for" and in fact had left several very positive reviews on YELP and elsewhere. Unfortunately, our recent experience was extremely bad and has made us question some of the prior work. During a recent very hot spell our central AC just stopped working making our home very difficult to live in. And while we do not think of Pipe Works as HVAC people, they prominently advertise their expertise in the field. Within a few days a technician came out and after looking at the unit in both the attic and outside explained to me that it was "beyond repair" and if I spent $1000 to try and get it running there was only a 50-50 chance it would start up and in any event would stop working again within a day or two. The technician explained that the entire unit would need to be replaced and provided me with three estimates for a new unit -- at a cost in the range of $10K-$11K. Luckily (it turns out), the home office said they did not a have one part of the new system so it would be at least two weeks before something could be installed. (After I told him we were going to call around and see if anyone else could do the job sooner, the home office emailed to say they could probably find a different brand sooner). In the interim, at a friend's recommendation, we called a local small HVAC company in our town to come out an take a look. The owner of this small business showed up the next day -- within 5 minutes diagnosed the problem was a "burned out capacitor" (not that I had any idea what that was), said it was "and easy fix" and within an hour (including a trip to pick up the part) was totally done and working perfectly -- at a total cost for parts and labor of under $300! And we were told our HVAC system was in perfect shape overall. I don't know if the Pipe Works technician just did not know what he was doing (which would be bad) or if he was trying to upsell us to a $10K plus purchase (which would be horrible), but either way it was an extraordinarily unsatisfying experience. And worst of all, it makes us question the prior work by Pipe Works (e.g. did we really need a new water softener system?!) and the very favorable reviews we have previously posted. read more

The service and staff is good. They responded quickly and found the problem with my furnace. The issue I have is it seems like a bait and switch routine. I called them for a repair and they charged me $99 for a diagnostic fee which is reasonable but the part that was changed was less than $20 and they spent maybe 1hour. They charged me $570 which is way too much for the repair. I'm not sure their hourly rate is but let's assume 175$ Per hour. I came across Pipe Works because of a very surprising boiler break (boiler was only 3 years old). A very stressful situation - not just the cost which is enough to give you heart palpitations, but also given the cold weather and urgency to replace, there's such a lack of time to do proper research for a reputable, customer-friendly and actually reliable service provider to handle the new installation (and with a bit of luck, a company you'd be happy to have remain for ongoing service). While the boiler breaking was not great, the silver lining is that I have been so pleased with Pipe Works technicians and service operations overall. They always respond promptly and are thorough to ensure not just the immediately visible issue is being addressed but the system as a whole is operating as it should. Each time I phone, someone answers at only a few rings and immediately goes into action to help. They're also very understanding - not rushing your explanation of the issue or acting exasperated. Also I LOVE that for each appointment they text when the technician is on his way, and then afterwards we receive photos and written report on what was done, what needs to be done, etc. So helpful and organized and makes me feel they are also taking vested interest in tracking my home's repairs. The technicians have all been professional and courteous. Everyone has been respectful of our home, time, etc. They are also extremely thorough, talking with me as a responsible home owner (you'd be amazed at how condescending some service providers can be). I promise we weren't paid for this - just after searching for so long to find a company we could trust and not dread dealing with..I had to share. read more

I had a scheduled inspection between 12p-4p. First the office informs me that the technician will reach a hour before the expected window starts. I had to drop whatever I was doing to realign on the time frame. Then around 1:30pm their office calls and tells me they wont be able to service me today at all because their technician is busy. While they offered to give another day, the service desk was absolutely rude and dismissive of the inconvenience this caused us. Not only did this jeopardized our deal but we had to re-jigger our entire schedule. We have given this company a good amount of business in the past. Won't be doing that any more. Customer service is key and dismissing a customer and disregarding your fault is a big NO in the service industry. Good bye read more

This was a terrible experience I had with this company first they could not get time and the day right I should realize I should a different company next the gentleman they sent did not have a clue about in clogging a toilet bowl the company said they were sorry they will send some else I am still waiting read more
