As I came to visit my cousins for the weekend, I wanted to try a brunch place with comfort food so we decided to check out Pip based on word of mouth. I was told it gets very busy here so good thing we came for late brunch and there were seats available right away. As it's quite small I suggest coming later in the day unless you're ok waiting in line. If you carry a long coat, fear not as they offer coat hangers to the right of the entrance. I started off with a Hugo Spritz and decided to try their lunch special which was a Grilled ham and cheese sandwich with egg and hollandaise sauce topped with a cup of mushroom soup. If you come with an empty stomach and want something hearty and delicious, you should definitely try it but I heard it's only there for a limited time. We arrived early ~9:30AM on a Sunday for brunch. They fill up fast and it's a pretty small restaurant, so definitely utilize Yelp waitlist before your arrival for a shorter wait! They accept reservations for dinner. The street parking nearby is free on Sundays. Pip is the first restaurant I've ever been to that offers lobster rolls at brunch! I was super excited about this and of course had to get it. The lobster roll features lobster salad with lemon aioli served on a toasted herb-butter bun for $24. They were generous with the lobster chunks! This is my first time having a lobster roll in a bun brushed with herb butter. It made all the difference! The herb butter on the toasted bun reminded me fondly of garlic bread. Sooo delicious! As long as they keep serving this lobster roll I'm going to keep returning. The lobster roll is available for other meals as well (lunch, dinner). For brunch it is served typically with hash but I opted to add $1 to sub for their house salad. - butter lettuce, feta, tomato, red onion & herb parmesan vinaigrette. My boyfriend ordered the Short Rib Eggs Benedict ($19) - braised beef, caramelized onion, dill hollandaise, soft poached eggs served with house hash. This seemed to be a very popular dish. The dill hollandaise was delicious! So creamy. The hash was excellently done as well. I would love to see them do a smoked salmon eggs benny with that dill hollandaise! Our hostess and the server were both awesome, and the vibes inside the restaurant are so cute! Perfect for a date, or meeting up with some girlfriends. PIP is a small and cozy place to eat at. They only take reservations for dinner so be sure to time well when you go if you're going for brunch. If you end up on the wait list when you get there, they'll text you when your table will be free. I've been here two times for brunch and one time for dinner. The service was welcoming and quick each time. The food there is what you expect for a brunch place. I've tried the avocado toast, ricotta toast and their dinner speacial meat loaf wrapped in bacon one night. They were all a decent meal and tasted good. Although my boyfriend ordered their french toast one time and we both agreed it was overwhelmed by one sweet flavor and it became a chore to eat after awhile. PIP is not the best brunch place in Edmonton but it is a solid cozy place to go to eat and chat with 1-3 friends. read more

We recently had breakfast at Pip. The food was good, my mushroom Eggs Benedict was very, very good. I was actually surprised at the number of people that were there given it was a weekday morning. I'm sure that on weekends it's very busy. Service was good, it's where I believe the old Pack Rat Louie's was. The only complaint we had was that the restaurant was cold. It was during our recent cold snap, and everybody in the restaurant was wearing their coat. You could feel the cold air coming in around the window frames which is not a good thing when you're living in northern Alberta. On the whole though, I would recommend it. read more

Part of The Next Act, MEAT, and now PIP wall of restaurants in Old Strathcona, they've taken over an entire block and have become quite a force! All three of the restaurants serve both dinner and brunch, but of them all, PIP is the one that is known for their brunch. No longer reserved for weekends only, PIP serves brunch every single day of the week! Finally! Opening in 2017, their deal is premium comfort foods and tons of brunch. The space is cute and small and you'll know them by their pineapple logo. VUE Weekly named PIP the #1 Best Brunch 2018 and Avenue Magazine called them the Best New Restaurant 2019 and Best Brunch 2020. They don't take reservations for brunch so the earlier that you can arrive, the better. I popped in on a Sunday morning and was happy to settle into their cozy space. While the inside might be little, there were no corners cut in chic decor. There are beautiful triangular-cut tiles in black and seafoam, light wood, dark tufted booths, and a nice feature wall. It's simple, clean, and modern. We were seated right away and our server was very prompt and friendly. I was handed a cocktail menu because let's face it, brunch and cocktails are very close pals. Of course they serve coffee as well... But brunch cocktails. You can go classic with a mimosa but I had to pick the Brunch Punch (Aperol, bubbles & OJ - $8.00) because it just sounded right. This cocktail made me happy. The cheery colour was like a morning sunrise and I enjoyed the sweet effervescence. It combines everything that you want at brunch; orange juice, you still get that mimosa vibe, plus it's got more booze and feels more like an interesting beverage. Great! The food menu itself is generally pretty straight forward, pairing down the list to all of the hits. Keeping up with the trends, you'll find avocado toast and a breakfast bowl. But you'll also see traditional favourites like the farmers breakfast. I'd heard a lot about their eggs benedict, brunch's biggest celebrity, and decided to set my interests there. They have three different versions to choose from and the Short Rib Eggs Benedict (Braised beef, caramelized onion & dill hollandaise with house hash - $19.00) called out to me the loudest. The food took no time at all and I dove in! The server had asked if a soft poach was alright with me, and my general rule is to take your food however the restaurant recommends it. Slicing through the egg, the golden yolk cascaded out, mingling with the surrounding hollandaise. The base of this benedict is built with a slice of ultra-buttery sourdough that provided just the right chew and bite. Next was the braised beef short rib, which was nothing short of perfection. It was tender and melted in my mouth, a perfect match for all of the other rich and velvety flavours. I really liked the idea of a dill hollandaise because it felt a little different than the usual and added a nice herby element to the plate. The hollandaise was buttery and slightly acidic, just the way that you want it. Each bite was an indulgence that I wholeheartedly enjoyed. The house hash was good as well. The potatoes were tender and had a nice browning on them. I liked the hint of lemon that I picked up from them. I also added a bit of hot sauce for some added excitement. I certainly cannot complain about this brunch because it delivered everything that I was looking for on all levels. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was comfortable. I noticed a BLT on their menu that I would definitely like to try (I'm a little obsessed with BLT sandwiches at the moment) and I would absolutely like to visit during dinner hours to find out what they've got going on for. I tried the Oyster Mushroom Eggs Benedict ($17), and they were amazing - seriously tasty, even though the price for such a dish is slightly above average. What is really pricey here is wine. 24 bucks for Cabernet Franc (9oz) is a bit steep. But other than that, really enjoyed my time there. I'm very glad for the addition of a brunch place near Whyte ave. My only question is; why aren't they open earlier? I'm not and early bird, but if hubby and are are in need of breakfast on the road, we need it sooner than 10:00 am. The veggie eggs Benny could not have been better. The avocado toast is also one of their spectacular meals. I had a lovely cup of brew coffee, even though there is a full menu of espresso goodies. Hubs had a fancy tea. I love this place. I haven't had a chance to try it until now because it's always insanely busy. But they do use the Yelp waitlist app to get in! We finally got a spot on their cute patio during the Fringe! Talk about lucky! I would definitely recommend coming here on a weekday. I'm glad we finally got a chance to check it out. The best part about this place are the beautiful cocktails. Another lucky coincidence was that we happened to arrive during their "Rush Hour" where all cocktails are $10. My partner got an Old Fashioned and a Sweet & Easy, and I tried the Elk Island Iced Tea and the Aperol Spritz. All drinks were fantastic. Our server also told us that they make all the cocktails for their own tables! That's amazing! Talk about hard work! Service was great! I decided to come here because there is the YELP no wait option and also I wanted to check out their famous Avocado Toast. My girlfriends would always rave about it and I needed to know what the hype was about. What really stood out to me was their house hash, it was seasoned and cooked perfectly. We ordered the following goodies: House Soup: tomato basil soup w/ grilled cheese croutons It was light and tasty, I love the grilled cheese croutons. Avocado Toast includes: A poached egg, bacon, crushed chillies on sourdough w/ house hash. We got its medium poached but I think I would do picked soft poached next time. Traditional Eggs Benedict includes shaved ham & dill hollandaise on sourdough w/ house hash. I love the hollandaise sauce, it has an unique flavour. Pip has a great reputation in the city, especially for their brunch! I finally got the chance to try this restaurant and loved the intimate vibe. Seating is limited, so the Live Waitlist feature on Yelp is extremely helpful! We arrived for breakfast at around 10am on a weekday. We were surprised to see the place busy but thankfully were able to get seated right away. I opted for the Traditional Eggs Benedict and my husband got the Farmers Breakfast with 1 extra egg. If you love dill and LOTS of hollandaise then the Eggs Benedict is for you! We enjoyed our meals but found the price to be a bit on the expensive side for what you get. Overall we had a good experience at Pip with good food and attentive service. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying other things on their menu. Absolutely horrible place to go. I would never recommend to anyone i ever speak to. The manager should be fired and it was incredibly frustrating and embarrassing to receive "service" like this one. We decided to come here for brunch and didn't make a reservation or joined the waitlist ahead of time because we had no idea what time we would get there, and naturally by the time we arrived there was a bit of a wait. Our host/server quoted us 20 min, which was about how long we waited, but after we were seated we still had to wait another 15 min to have her clear the table, bring out utensils, come around, etc etc... there was a bus boy who only brought out food and another man who came out once in a while to check on things. I'm not sure why there was the only one host who all the tables had to wait for. Because we sat outside, we don't know what was happening inside. Maybe there were more staff... Ultimately, once we placed our order our drinks and food didn't take too long to arrive and the food was so delicious we forgot that we were starving! One of my favourite breakfast/brunch spots here in the city! I've eaten here multiple times and I always have a good experience. The food here is so delicious. My favourite is the breakfast sandwich - the artichoke mayo on it is amazing. Their house hash is seriously some of the best breakfast potatoes I've ever eaten - the flavour, the texture, it is *chefs kiss*. Service was great but unfortunately the kitchen seemed to be very busy so it took some time to get our meal. And the Saudi was so tasty. It was light on the lemon and had a bit of dill which I wasn't sure about at the beginning but it grew on me and I loved it at the end. My friend said "the eggs were bang fuckin on"! and they were! Cooked to perfection. I'm definitely coming back to check out their dinner menu!! Down the street from MEAT and next door to the Next Act Pub, Pip is the little sister to these two well-loved restaurants of Old Strathcona. Pip's 28-seat space is much smaller than the space occupied by its big sisters and differs with it's minimalist decor and a hip, sophisticated vibe. The space is cute and cozy with soothing shades of slate, mint, and birch. Pip serves brunch daily until 3 pm, which is perfect whether you're an early riser or you like to start your day a little later. The brunch menu is short and sweet with 8 dishes, some optional sides, and a handful of fresh cocktails to enjoy. I've been to Pip on two occasions now and enjoyed the Traditional Eggs Benedict ($17) both times. Two perfectly soft poached eggs sit on thinly shaved ham and are generously covered in a rich, buttery dill hollandaise sauce. I could argue that the hollandaise is one of the best in the city - I almost licked my plate clean! The accompanying pan-fried house hash was flavourful, although the potatoes could be a little more crispy for me. The menu offers a Quinoa Breakfast Bowl ($14) for those looking for lighter fare, served with arugula, avocado, basil pesto, toasted hemp seeds and a hard boiled egg. With all the components mixed together and a generous squeeze of lemon juice the bowl is a fresh start to your day. Perfect for a cold winter morning, the Eggs & Bocconcini ($15) baked in a tomato basil sauce and served with toast is a soul-warming dish. The rich egg yolks are well balanced by the tangy tomato sauce. Spoon it onto a crispy slice of toast and you have a hearty breakfast! Pip also offers a rotating breakfast sandwich special paired with house hash, and on our particular visit the sandwich featured a Meuwly's Italian sausage patty with artichoke mayo, tomato, arugula, melted cheddar and a runny fried egg on a sourdough bun. The sausage was well seasoned with a little kick and the sandwich was delicious with all the components combined. Who doesn't love a breakfast sandwich with an oozy egg? If the line-ups out the door are any indication, Edmonton's brunch game is picking up and I'm glad to have a weekday option available in the city. Unfortunately there are no reservations for brunch, so line up early or be prepared for a wait. Mmmmm very nice food! I didn't realize how tiny and quaint this place really was. I'd say if you plan on coming for dinner or breakfast on the weekend to make a reservation or arrive right when they open. Seating is incredibly minimal. I ordered the traditional benedict and it was quite delicious. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the potatoes were overly salty. I also wish I had remembered to ask for medium eggs since they automatically make them runny. My friend got the bacon avocado toast with salad and loved her meal. Our waiter was so great.
