We have been going to Pinnacle for months and love it. Their service has been excellent from day one. No issues with appointments, no issues with billing, no issues at all. I saw them for a past issue (pain in lower back and legs - probably sciatica?) and am currently seeing them for a shoulder injury due to kettlebell swings (be careful with those kettlebells!!!!). I've seen 3 therapists there. I won't say too much about one of them except she tried hard and was nice, but was less knowledgeable and it showed. She is no longer there and Niraj took over for her to help my lower back and leg pain. He was great. I was wearing a back brace, and through the exercises he showed me using the foam roller and with his therapy during the sessions, I haven't worn it since. There really isn't a cure for this issue that I'm aware of, but I now can manage it pretty well and don't need anything else. My current shoulder issue has been handled my Matthew and he has frankly been as good as Niraj was. His therapy has been top-notch (physical manipulation of the shoulder and surrounding areas (he thinks I strained my lat and have some issues with the shoulder joint). I always feel so much better after a session and those effects have lasted. He knows what he's doing. I also like that he has given me exercises at home, but not too many of them which makes it much easier to remember and makes me much more likely to keep up with them. I had a dull ache going down my arm and quite a bit of pain in my shoulder when I started. After 3 sessions, the dull ache is pretty much gone and the shoulder pain is much improved. I was worried that I may have needed surgery to fix this problem. I'm now relatively confident that I won't. One more thing to mention. The front desk staff is very nice and helpful. I really like that if they don't have appointments available, they can put you on a wait list and will call if anything opens up, which they do! Very professional and friendly staff. read more

I came to Pinnacle after a severe injury to my groin when starting running at the local high school track (I was aged 59). I had an intake session with the owner - Niraj - but his family now lives in Colorado and he is seldom there today. But, I recommend that if you have a very complex problem, go see the owner of a physical therapy shop, especially for the intake (1st) session! I had great interactions with Niraj and he helped me a great deal to restore function in my torn Adductor muscles. I have often found that Physical therapists are superior to Orthopedic doctors when it comes to finding and fixing problems from athletic injury. I would say I have 80% of my mobility back and either have semi-permanent bursitis or the beginnings of hip wear-out requiring replacement. After seeing Niraj off and on for 6 months, I finished my therapy sessions with Jackson who is a young guy and who is very kind, pleasant, patient and inspiring to work with. THANK YOU BOTH! Now I have a partially torn achilles tendon (from Pickleball) and will be returning for more physical therapy very soon. I am looking forward to seeing the staff again soon! Stanley Wong was good, and he is the reason I came back to Pinnacle. But he was only there temporarily. When I returned for a second course of PT, I explained the problem to the front desk, that I have some deep problems. They had me work with a Japanese woman (Tomoko?) who told me that I could use the LaCrosse ball and foam roller to break up some tissue, as if I need to pay them to give me permission for that. I'd already explained that I'd been doing that and that I would continue to but that I needed to get deep work. Nope. No manual work. I went back once more. I expressed that I was not happy with the prior session, restated I needed deep work, and she decided that she could do it. She suggested cupping. I said that that's not going to break up the deep knots. She didn't care. Cupping was easy for her, so she was going to do it. After that, I switched to a different PT. Then, Pinnacle had a problem with insurance billing. They decided to charge me for that. Tomoko unapologetically wasted time. They gave me wrong info about their ability to bill my insurance, which was a hassle for me, too, because I ended up calling my insurance many times after that. But they eventually demanded I pay for that -- no apology for the bad service or time wasted at all! Now I'm dealing with collections because of them. Better than to pay them, though. They can learn a lesson about taking advantage of people. read more

I spent 12+ sessions here to treat a groin strain last year and saw absolutely no improvement. Initially I was seeing a junior therapist and then switched to Niraj who is the senior therapist here. Despite that I did not see any improvement in my condition. This is what I felt: They treat patients like an assembly line. They intake patients, do some work and move on. They dont analyze and understand well what's going on. They dont really care if the patient is actually seeing results. Niraj seems to be competent but he is very often distracted and late. Perhaps if you have a basic condition then this place may be ok but if you have a complicated condition I definitely don't recommend it. read more

The lack of transparency of those folks is appalling. Before my first session I asked to know what the price would be and I couldn't get a straight answer. Insurances are famous for making "interesting" decisions and sometimes you might end up paying full price for what should be covered (and it happened to me before, especially when dealing with physical therapy there's tons of gray areas). What I wanted to know was a simple number: what is the full price of the session? No answer. I guess I will keep looking for a business that conducts themselves professionally. read more

I came to Pinnacle with a herniated disc and excruciating pain in my right leg. The first session was amazing - I could not compliment the technician enough for the patient hearing, knowledgable advise and treatment. However, when I was checking out, I was told there is no opening for the next session for two weeks and I would be contacted if an opening came up. Then two weeks later I got a call that there was an opening the next day afternoon. I confirmed that I would like to take that appointment. Then on the morning of, someone called to say in fact, there was no opening. 1) I am surprised that they would take on a new patient in extreme pain if they had no opening and could not commit to a schedule that was necessary for healing. 2) I think it was shabby to find and not find appointment slots 3) I think there is something else going on - not sure what, but perhaps they don't benefit well enough from the contracted payment through my insurance? They obviously have good technicians, but it's too bad I had a very poor experience at this facility. read more

Pinnacle Physical Therapy is an incredible place to get rehabilitated. I have been going here for a while due to being involved in a pretty bad car accident. I felt weak, debilitated, and scared after this accident. My physical therapist Tim is a godsend. Through different strength and flexibility exercises, week after week I have felt better and better. We transitioned to different exercises as my mobility went up and my pain went down. Tim even used a technique called myofascial decompression that he learned about after going to a conference for physical therapists (talk about cutting edge). Not only has Tim helped me feel better and recover, he actually has taught me about my body and what has been happening to me. 10 out of 10 would physical therapy again. read more

I am a dedicated runner (and have been for more than 20 years) and a side effect of that is that I always need to have a good physical therapist to deal with the occasional and inevitable injuries. Niraj at Pinnacle is the best PT I have met so far. He is extraordinarily experienced and spends a huge amount of time really analyzing and figuring out not only WHAT is wrong with you but WHY. For example, where it hurts (my hamstring) during running in my case is really more of a symptom than the real problem and root cause. He has given me several exercises that have really helped as well as take the time to explain what is going on in my situation. He is also very generous with his time as well and you get a sense that he deeply cares about making you well rather than just getting you in and out. I was referred by my girlfriend and I would recommend Pinnacle to anyone and everyone that is suffering from pain but ESPECIALLY to athletes as I find it really hard to find PTs that can adequately diagnose and treat injuries. read more

Twice I broke myself while snowboarding, twice Janet from Pinnacle PT has fixed me so far. First time, I fell and fractured my shoulder. It took 2 months for my bone to recover and I procrastinated for other 3 more months before starting PT. When I got to Pinnacle my shoulder was a mess. It took a lot of time, effort and exercise to get it back to well-functioning. Second time, I broke my forearm, I promptly went to Pinnacle after removing my case, to recover my wrist movements. Recovery was really fast and I soon had normal movement in my wrist again. Janet is a really awesome physical therapist, I could feel progress after each session. I would give Pinnacles PT 6+ stars if the option were available. I went to Pinnacles PT for a very ambiguous shoulder injury that prevented me from lifting weights, playing sports and even typing as much as I needed too. I visited a top notch Orthopedic Surgeon at Stanford who referred me to PT because he didn't know what was wrong. Niraj's dedicated help has been absolutely incredible. He thoroughly questioned and examined me to determine what was causing me pain. His hands on manipulation of the surrounding area has given me much needed pain relief. He showed me various exercises to work smaller muscles that are crucial for maintaining good posture, strength and remaining injury free through sports. Niraj has a very thorough understanding of human anatomy, as well as how muscles work together. He explains why the exercises are helpful as well as exactly what muscles you are working to improve strength/flexibility. After working with Niraj for just under a month, I have gone from 10-15% of functional to 90%. I am almost fully recovered. I highly recommend anyone who is suffering from an injury or recovering from surgery to visit Pinnacles PT. I'm a salsa, yogi, gym-goer with flat feet and propensity to stick my "seat" out. I tore my left hamstring and was sure that it was due to over-exertion. I tried self-healing and re-injured myself about a month after the initial tear. It was hard to walk and I couldn't stretch the hamstring at all. My doctor prescribed PT and I found Niraj at Pinnacle. Best decision of my fitness life! Niraj is so knowledgeable about human anatomy and gets to the root cause of whatever your affliction is. He uses proper terminology when explaining everything but knows how to break it down in laymen terms so that you leave your session fully aware of what's wrong and how he's going to help you fix it. Our first sessions focused on neuromuscular re-education and then we moved on to exercises to strengthen my hamstring and glutes. He found that my flat feet, posture (that whole sticking out my "seat" thing), and thus lack of core strength were the biggest issues. After about 2 visits I saw significant improvement in my flexibility and strength in my hamstring, after about 4 visits I felt virtually no pain in the area, and on my 7th visit I was deemed fit to return to my fitness activities! I feel like I literally learned how to walk again as an adult and I'm seeing incredible gains in my general fitness because of Niraj's guidance on proper alignment and go-to exercises to re-train my legs and glutes. The story doesn't stop here - as soon as I got better my fiance went and injured himself playing basketball. He tore his left calf. He was on crutches and later a boot and doctors told him that he'd probably be out of commission for 6-12 weeks. After resting for two weeks and then going to Niraj for 2 and a half weeks he was back playing basketball and injury-free! A note on the office - the front desk staff is extremely helpful and responsive! There are private and open areas for therapy and based on my observation all of the PTs are incredibly attentive and supportive of their clients. So now we're both healed and I wanted to write a review letting everyone know how great our experience was! We think of Niraj as a friend of the family. Seriously we're both a little bummed to not see him anymore (besides being an awesome PT he's just an all around awesome guy) but forever grateful to him for not only patching us back together but for helping us to be more healthy than we were before! read more

I hurt both my ankles while landing my parachute during a skydive. I had a grade 2 sprain on my right ankle and a mild sprain on my left. After about a month of half cast around my right ankle, I started my PT sessions with Pinnacle. I have done more than 20 sessions with them so far, and am absolutely pleased with my experience. Janet is very knowledgeable and dedicated, and has given me excellent care for the 5+ months I have been visiting her. She is absolutely wonderful in her observation and treatment. During my visits, she was very thorough in checking and monitoring scar tissue formation and stiffness in various muscles around the ankle. She shows impressive knowledge about the human anatomy and is able to decide on the best course for you. Based on the progress of your healing, she will make you go through a varied and rigorous set of exercises until she is sure that your body is performing at its best. She will space out your sessions as is apt for your current progress. More than her professionalism, she was also very fun and kept my spirits up during the sessions. I actually looked forward to my next PT session, and am now kind of sad that they are getting over. read more

Highly recommend Pediatric Physical Therapy, with Bethany Gradert. She was gentle and "entertained" my little one with toys while examining or working on her. I liked the collection of toys and wanted some myself. :) She also gave me procedures to do at home, so we only had to go in for a few visits. Bethany is knowledgeable and really helped me understand how the muscles work, what to anticipate, and the why behind all recommended corrective procedures/movements. The movements were also not too difficult for my little one to handle, as we could do them while playing. Our particular experience was with torticollis, and I've seen vast improvement, I may even say complete improvement. --- Side note: The front desk is not bad, but just isn't as good. * From appointment booking, I just didn't get a feel of how well we'll be taken care of at Pinnacle Therapy or how credible/legitimate it was, until after my first visit. * The receptionist/office manager was a bit hard to understand over the phone, partly due to the accent, though she is caring and very polite. * They didn't collect co-payment right away, which I'd rather they did so I didn't have to worry about a bill. :) But, to me the front desk isn't a big deal. The fact that the therapy worked is great, and truly appreciated. read more

Chao is the best healthcare provider out of the very large number of them that I've met in the months since my injury. I was still in a wheelchair the first time I met her, but after just a few weeks, I'm now primarily using only a cane. (She does want me to also keep wearing a brace, but I really hate that thing and usually don't.) Chao was the only person to take the time to get one of those plastic anatomy models and show me exactly what was damaged. She asked for a copy of my MRI and went over each injury separately, explaining what that part is supposed to do, and estimates of how long each one will take to heal. She was honest with me about one of the injuries that will probably never heal and told the reasons for why that part is different. I appreciate that she's been straight with me and doesn't try to sugar coat things. I even learned from her that there's another bone that broke, which my surgeon never told me. Chao has been patient with all my many questions and good at explaining the reasons for all the terrible things she does. That makes it much easier for me to endure these biweekly torture sessions, and to stick to the daily exercises at home. I read in previous review that Chao got mad at somebody who didn't use ice. She's never been rude to me, but she definitely considers ice to be very important, as she asks me about it at the start of every visit and emphasizes that I need to be doing it even more often. I asked her why, and she explained how the ice reduces inflammation, and that that if the inflammation doesn't subside, it can lead to long-term problems and more discomfort. She seems to sincerely care about the recovery of her patients, so I wouldn't be surprised that she was disappointed if somebody wasn't using ice at all. If you are allergic to ice, you might want to find a different therapist. But if you are willing to do the things she says, I strongly recommend her. Just please wait until after I'm done with my treatment, because her calendar is already pretty booked. read more

I would give this place zero star if I could. Wow, I have never seen a therapist so rude before. Chao is her name. She clearly has the saddest face on earth, as if she is saying " why the hell you here, and what the hell I am here for". Nothing but impatience attitude. If you don't like your job, go do something else please. I suspect there is some kind of discrimination going on here, she looked at my name says" I have never seen a name like that before ." The second visit she "interrogate" me if I put ice on the back everyday. First of all, she never gave that instruction to me at the first place. So I said I said "no". Wow, there she goes, she was angry at me, angry at me. I didn't even have the encourage to explain to her that I was never told that instruction. I was just shocked, and after all who want to confront people face to face. Later I was asked to bring my dr's prescription, which I could not find. She asked who is my dr. I said I don't remember the name. Then 5 minutes later she confront me again " how would you contact your dr. office to get the prescription if you don't know his name?" I was like " if i go to the website I will recognize who he is." Wow, really ? you need to troll me like that? Treating patient like an idiot or just because have an accent which is even worse. She simply has issues, and seems to forget who she is. She is a health care provider, I am a patient and customer. It was unbelievable I was treated like that. I just received my billing invoices from Pinnacle for 2 visits in early August. In reviewing the pricing, this has prompted me to speak my mind as follows: 1st impression, I walk-in there in pain (sciatica) and it took 12 minutes just to be acknowledged of my presence. I see the clipboards of forms so being the proactive type, I had my DL & insurance cards ready while completing the forms in full and signing in of course. 2nd, I finally get acknowledged by a female representative asking me to have a seat, sign-in and to complete the forms where I inform her that I have done so presenting her with my DL & insurance card but she's not ready to take all I've prepared. I end-up taking a seat to relax in any angle that allows me some relief but getting-up and pacing the few limited square spaces of the mediocre curtained waiting area. 20 more minutes goes by and a gentleman approaches me appearing stressed and obviously busy with all. He introduces himself as Niraz. To tell you the truth, I couldn't tell they were actually PT's, I thought they were assistants to set me up so my PT could treat me. Anyhow, I get escorted back in to a curtained section which is right next to another curtained section where another patient was laying. Can't say I'm impressed with the lack of privacy mind you. Niraz interviews me and my situation and all turned out to be a rather brief Q&A evaluation. Please note that I felt that his demeanor was acceptable and bedside manner professional hence he provided me with a sense that he was experienced and knowledgeable enough but at that point being in so much pain, I was willing to accept anyone with any form of abilities unbeknownst to my lack of what to do for myself. Physically, as I lay flat on my back (fully clothed), he pressed his fingers into a center side edge of my abdomen within my rib cage for a count of I believe was 60 seconds. He repeats twice. It was not painful but gave me uneasy as in quesy feeling but it did alleviate some of the pain. Only some. Next he trains me to do a few minor sway exercises on a ball and stretches against the wall on a wooden floor tool then a couple of verbal examples of to do's at home with some stretch exercises. That's it! So the following week, for my 2nd session I'm taken back and briefed by Niraz but he's in a hurry to get back to the elderly patient in the next curtained section over. I was just told to do my measly exercises on the ball and against the wall on that wooden floor tool while he attends to his other patient. That's it! Considering the other patient was elderly and in pain, I just let it go... BTW, I didn't appreciate Niraz disinfecting the therapy table while I was trying to exit. I realize this is a very small and rather busy place of business but don't rush my exit cleaning and prepping the limited space constraints while I'm gathering my personals and putting myself back together to leave! I don't need to breath that stuff but that's another story! So, as I was about to leave, Niraz informs me that he will be out of town the following week when my 3rd session is due. He stated that his assistant (or is it partner or associate that he called by name but I cannot recall her name) will call me to check on me and schedule me in when she has time to treat me. She didn't call. Well not that week. I really did not feel I should call when she did not. I went without a 3rd session but eventually got a call from her beginning of 4th week inquiring when I will return. I proceeded to inform her that I took my health matters into my own hands and sought an Acupuncturist and a Chiropractor and did not feel that the 1st two sessions were aggressive or adequate enough to alleviate my pain and course of wellness. She calls again within a couple of days, forgetting we had already spoken so I had to repeat myself of why I will not return. What's that say on a organized office system? Why didn't she document the conversation? Now that I see the billing statements that are under review with my insurance carrier, I have no idea why my 2 visits had to equal over $475. For what?! I highly recommend Stuart Katzman in Redwood City, Ca. He provides a professional office environment and private rooms for treatments including a decent waiting room area where his assistant makes you feel comfortable as they both present themselves with excellent social skills to place a patient in a relaxed state before, during and after services are rendered. read more

I am a very active person, but I'm not as young as I used to be and on occasion I have gotten hurt... Enter Tomoko Kioka MSPT and the staff at Pinnacle. I damaged my big toe last year and had complications getting it back in shape. I used another PT, not Pinnacle, for months and was feeling recovery start to take place, or so I thought. I went back to my normal activities and within no time was back in pain. I decided to see a new specialist and got the problem re-diagnosed as "turf toe" it was believed to be a broken bone at first... as well as be redirected to a new PT program. Specifically to go see Tomoko Kioka as there was hope she could help me conquer this issue that I'd been having for quite some time without the need for surgery! Within three months of my first visit I could tell a real change in both my range of motion and strength of the toe had happened and more importantly I was back to the activities that bring me so much joy; surfing and yoga, which previously I eather couldn't do or had a very reduced role in. Tomoko gave me various exercises throughout my series of visits, she changed them up constantly and was always intent on reassessing the situation to ensure I was getting the most out of each session. She also employed a wide range of recovery methods, from exercises, to massage, to ice/heat and electronic stimulation. She even gave me several techniques to tape up my toe and foot to help me do what I wanted all the while further stabilizing the injury. She's also a very kind and calm soul, her demeanor adds to the situation and one that put me at a great sense of ease considering the mental stress I was having over the injury. Several weeks have gone by and my toe continues to strengthen and the idea of going for surgery is less and less of a consideration. Now, I said I was active right? Well, this week I slightly tore my MCL and am back in a brace, DOH! After completing the usual x-rays, MRI and visits to two specialist I plan to set up appointments with Tomoko for the next 6 weeks starting immediately. If I'm hurt I want to recover the right way and as fast as possible and evidence that Tomoko can help me get there is the fact I'm going back to see her again. As I've said I've had a lot of injuries in my active life and I really feel I've found the best PT I've ever had, Thanks Tomoko! read more

Chao did an amazing job working on and improving my back injury, as well as educating me and setting me up for future self-care success. I have a bulging disc in my back and have had several spasms over the past 10-15 years, I've always tried to just stretch before exercise and ice afterwards, but still had a chronically stiff back. She helped explain that there was scar tissue built up in my stiff muscles and helped breakdown the scar tissue with a variety of heat, ultrasound, massage and (my favorite) cupping. Additionally, she focused on strengthening my core, rather than my back, in order to help keep my spine aligned. Prior to beginning therapy with Chao, I could not drive more than 30 minutes without back pain. After several months of hard work, I drove cross country, making trips of about 2 hours at a time and had no major pain or issues. Chao keeps you accountable, and expects you to put the work in if you want to fix whatever issue you're there for, which is necessary for long term success for people requiring physical therapy. read more

I'd been suffering increasing pain in my knees from patellar tendonitis, causing me to give up sports and dance (my big passion). Niraj was recommended by a friend and he took the time during our very first session to figure out where the pain was and what specific actions were causing it. He gave me exercises to fix the tracking issues and strengthen the muscles to help stabilize my knees. Each session he asks at the start how I'm doing, and as I've gone through the usual ups-and-downs of recovery he has adapted the exercises accordingly. Re TOMOKO and PT for my right knee: It was through Yelp that I decided to go to Pinnacle PT after meniscus repair surgery on my right knee. I'd like everyone to know how wonderful, knowledgeable, and pleasant TOMOKO was to have as a PT. Everything she did helped me to progress so quickly. I loved her drawings and rely on them to remind me of correct 'postures' for my exercises. I am a 'visual' learner so I appreciate these aids a lot! Tomoko also explained just where I should feel the exercises (not just 'do 30 of these & 40 of those) - so as to ensure the correct muscles are working and getting stronger. And besides my knee, she helped me get my back into better alignment and this has helped me immeasurably in walking and even just standing for long periods. I can't thank Tomoko enough for giving me back my ability to walk pain free! I will certainly go back to Pinnacle and Tomoko if I need more PT & I've recommended her to EVERYONE I know! read more

I was blown away by how amazing the care is at Pinnacle. I had a sharp lower back pain, going on for weeks. After the first visit, Tomoko Kioka did a thorough evaluation and I was shocked by her discoveries. She didn't just treat my back pain, but found the root of the problem - incorrect posture while I walk. By helping me do specific core and glute exercises, to strengthen the correct muscles, it eased the strain off my lower back. Not only was she incredibly thorough, she is kind, and has a great sense of humor. I recommend her and Pinnacle to the absolute max. Great job! read more

5 stars for knowledgeable caring therapists. really amazing. lower stars for bleak depressing setting & vibe. really needs an environmental refresh to be more pleasant, it's already a drag to be in pain, it's more of a drag to be somewhere run down. it's an open floor layout, stained drop ceiling with fluorescent lighting, small 'privacy' areas with drawn curtains that don't quite close. front staff seem vaguely annoyed by queries interrupting whatever else they are doing. read more

I went to Niraj for what my doctor thought was a back problem, but Niraj was sure it was something else. He thought it was a problem with my pelvis. I went back to my doctor, had him X-ray my pelvis and was immediately schedule for a total hip replacement. In the 3 weeks leading up to the surgery Niraj prepared me by giving me balance and strength exercises so I would have some core awareness when I started post op PT. after my surgery I worked with Niraj for months, with the goal of being able to ride my horse. I started riding again 4 months later. Niraj is amazing, and unlike the other PTs I've gone to in the past. I would highly recommend him. I believe he is the best PT in the Bay Area. read more
