I had an amazing experience working with Ming! Ming was able to help me both in recovering from injuries as well as building the required strength, stability, flexibility, and body mechanics to prevent future injury. I had reached out to BreakThrough Physical Therapy when I had started dealing with persistent knee pain from playing badminton. After an initial consultation, Ming was able to identify where the imbalances were in my body and came up with a plan to build strength and stability. When I started I was using a walker, progressed to some work with a cane, and ended walking normally, which was my ultimate goal. I am writing to share my experience with Elizabeth Segovia and the team at Breakthrough Physical Therapy. I am 80 years old, and this past summer, while walking down the stairs, I heard a sudden "pop" in my lower right leg near my heel. It was immediately clear that something had torn. My orthopedist placed me in a walking boot and, once it was removed, prescribed physical therapy. Having previously received treatment at Breakthrough on three occasions, I returned with complete confidence in their care. My physical therapist, Elizabeth Segovia, had also worked with me following a full knee replacement. At that time, I experienced significant difficulty walking longer distances, and my altered gait was beginning to compromise my hip. Her prior treatment was highly successful, and I was pleased to work with her again. Following a thorough evaluation of my recent injury, Elizabeth developed a structured rehabilitation plan beginning with four targeted stretching exercises. She provided both printed instructions and online resources to ensure I could perform the exercises correctly at home. During each session, she carefully observed my technique, offered constructive feedback, and demonstrated proper form. We met twice weekly, and she consistently evaluated my progress, thoughtfully adding new exercises as my strength and balance improved. Over time, my program expanded to include eighteen different exercises addressing strength, flexibility, balance, and overall stability. Elizabeth is exceptionally knowledgeable. She clearly explained which muscles each exercise targeted and the specific goals of every phase of treatment. Her explanations gave me confidence in the process and a deeper understanding of my recovery. In addition to her expertise, she is personable, patient, and encouraging--qualities that made each session both productive and reassuring. The Breakthrough facility itself is bright, clean, and well organized, offering a large gym area as well as private treatment rooms. Each therapy session lasts forty minutes--longer than sessions at some other facilities--and includes an additional ten minutes of icing and/or electrical stimulation, providing a comprehensive fifty-minute appointment. As a result of Elizabeth's expertise and dedication, I have regained strength, balance, and mobility. I am now able to walk long distances, play pickleball, snow ski, and cycle. BreakThrough has helped me through several health problems over the years, including chronic knee pain and, most recently, persistent neck and shoulder numbness and tingling. I was worried something was wrong with my spine, as it was affecting my work--I constantly had to adjust my neck and shoulder daily for months. Elizabeth identified the problem during my first visit, and with very simple neck and back exercises, along with KT tape, she dramatically reduced my symptoms within just the first couple of weeks! She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful every step of the way. She carefully observes and really gets to know your body, helping you optimize your positioning for each exercise. She noticed that I overextend my elbows and have more lax tendons, and she showed me how to better position my arms to properly engage the muscles. This tip, along with many others, improved my overall body awareness and strength training. The personalized online exercise portal is super useful, as it stores all the exercises for my conditions--even from several years ago--in case symptoms flare up again. The heat and stim therapy is a wonderful way to finish each visit and further promote healing, and the staff there are all fantastic. All the office staff are friendly and helpful. BreakThrough also gives back to the community--I won a few years ago, and they donated to my favorite bunny rescue! I came to Breakthrough for recurring neck pain that was tied to my weak lower trapezius muscles, and got assigned to Cerita--she is amazing! Not only was Cerita really friendly and easy to talk to, she really listened to my needs and designed a program that works for my current life and schedule (which is unfortunately kind of long hours stuck in an office cubicle). She tried to come up with exercises and variations of the exercises I needed that I would be able to do in my cubicle without looking too weird, LOL. Sitting in my cubicle is usually where I remember to do the exercises (in the morning it's a rush to get out the door, and when I get home, it's trying to eat, wind down, and get ready for bed), so this made a huge difference for me! I'd been to another physical therapy place years prior for a similar issue, and being unable to keep up with the exercises afterwards made that experience less useful. Cerita, on the other hand, was dedicated to finding things that I would be more likely to keep up and continue, and I've already been able to keep up with them longer than I have after leaving the previous therapist, which is a huge win! I'm particularly bad at intentional routines, so I am truly grateful that she really understood where I was coming from and met me halfway. Huge thanks to Cerita for helping me with my literal pain in the neck! Hopefully I won't be back (fingers crossed!), but if I ever need physical therapy again, this is where I intend to go. read more

After suffering from lingering dizziness for six weeks following a bout of vertigo, I was so happy to be referred to BreakThrough Physical Therapy, because I felt better almost immediately. Ruchira did some movement tests to determine my symptoms, then gave me some super easy exercises that included eye movements and standing balancing. It was literally one day later and my dizziness was gone. I couldn't believe it. Should I get vertigo again, I will be calling BreakThrough immediately. I was a little skeptical that a virtual visit with a PT who has no history with me would yield very good results. I was blown away at how quickly Sahana identified the cause of my on-again-off-again ankle pain just from asking me to stand in a few poses.
